Kathy Meier
Kathy Meier, 50, of Davenport, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at home.

Memorial services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Kathy was born May 6, 1957, in Springfield, Ill., to Earl and Mildred Price.

Survivors are her husband, Chelsea Meier Jr.; daughters (and their spouses), Mandy (Gary) Knerr, Crystal (Zahir) Nuhanovic, and Toni Welzenbach; stepson, Chelsea Meier III; brothers, Danny Price and Ray Price; sister, Martha Miller; 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Earl Jr.; infant son, Billy.

Lenvil Simmons
Lenvil C. Simmons, 91, of Davenport, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Davenport. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport, where further arrangements are pending.

David Trent
David Ross Trent, 67, of Muscatine, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Memorial services are 1 p.m. today at Runge, Davenport. There is no visitation. Inurnment is in Davenport Memorial Park.

He was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Jay and Virginia Trent. He married Sandra Sue Little April 2, 1966. She died June 23, 2006.

Surviving are children, Scott Trent, Yokohama, Japan, Amy Bowman, Fairview, Texas; grandchildren, Erika Trent, Lauren, Michael, Hanna and Benjamin Bowman; brother, Frank M. Trent.

Helen Cady
Funeral services for Helen M. Cady, 92, East Moline, are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park cemetery . Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or to Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Mrs. Cady died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Helen was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Springfield, Vt., the daughter of Fred and Gladys Bryant Blake. She married Kenneth G. Cady on March 2, 1942, in Waukegan, Ill. Ken died in 1983.

She had worked as a secretary at Jones and Lamson Tool in Vermont and as a bookkeeper at Collinson Stone in Moline.

Survivors include daughters, Cheryl (Charles) Rowlett, Mountain View, Mo., and Shannon Lee Cady, East Moline; grandsons, Christopher Rowlett and Matthew (Lori) Rowlett; great-grandsons, Camron and Carter; a sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Myron Leber, Oak Brook, Ill; and special niece and nephew, Jill Genzler and Brian Leber. In addition to her husband, a brother, Glenn, and a sister, Janice, preceded her in death.

Laura Clark
Funeral services for Laura Clark, 93, formerly of East Moline, are 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.

Mrs. Clark died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church, where she was a life member.

Laura was born Sept. 15, 1914, in East Moline, to Henri and Pharilda Hendrickx. Her parents died at a very young age. She was adopted by Maurice Vaernewyck. She was raised by Maurice and Mary Vaernewyck. Laura married Francis "Frank" Clark in 1936 at St. Mary's Church. Frank died in 1983.

Mrs. Clark had worked at Strombeck Becker, Buddy L Toy Company and at American Air Filter until 1937, when she was ready to give birth to her son who was born in February of 1938. When her nest was empty she went back to work at AMATEK and later at A.R.A vending, retiring in 1974.

She loved to bake and make candies.

Laura is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jan Clark, Silvis. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joe.

Angeline Banks
Angeline M. Banks, 89, formerly of Colona and Cleveland, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Sunrise Assisted Living South in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Arrangements are pending at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline.

Steven Briggs
Steven C. Briggs, 59, of Lynn Center, died Oct. 8, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Private burial will be at Western Township cemetery . Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or charity of choice.

Steven was born Nov. 23, 1947, in Moline, to Curtis L. and Janis M. Bloomberg Briggs. He married Nancy Coyne in May of 1977 in Moline.

Steve currently was employed at B & W Construction in Moline. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast.

He was a member of Valley View Country Club, Cambridge, and Orion High School Hall of Fame.

Steven is survived by sister, Sandy Bristow, Houston, Texas; uncle, Gerald Bloomberg, Rock Island; nieces and nephews, Jason Bristow, Houston, Lisa (Ash) Yoder, Houston, Aaron (Erin) Tennant, Orion, Christopher Tennant, Orion, David (Emily) Tennant, Coal Valley; two great-nieces, Olivia Tennant and Emma Yoder. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Briggs.

Edith Ferguson
Edith V. Ferguson, 86, of Keithsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at First Christian Church, Keithsburg. Burial is in Greenmound cemetery , Keithsburg. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at First Christian Church, Keithsburg. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Keithsburg Fire/Ambulance.

She was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Keithsburg, the daughter of Bart and Lilly Landon Gaylor. Edith married Elmer "Babe" Ferguson on Aug. 20, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2006.

Edith had worked in Keithsburg at the McKee Button Factory then later at Cannon Bronze for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Keithsburg Senior Center and Royal Neighbors of America.

Survivors (and their spouses) include twin daughters, Lois Frieden, Keithsburg and Louise (Tom) Whitehall, East Moline; one son, Dempsey (Nancy) Ferguson, Aledo; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren with two on the way; one brother, Russell Gaylor, Keithsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Billy and Ronald Gaylor.

Kenneth Jacks
Kenneth N. Jacks, 74, of Matherville, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Golda Dennison Ryan
Golda Dennison Ryan, 83, of Kewanee, formerly Bradford, Ill., died Oct. 8, 2007, at Toulon Health Care.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Schueneman-Tumbleson, Kewanee. Burial is in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Kewanee. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

She married Donald Dennison; he died in 1990. She married Edward Ryan; he died in 2002.

Surviving are sons, Bruce Dennison, LaFayette, Ill., Don Dennison, Florida; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; stepsons, Dan Ryan, Marty Ryan, Larry Ryan, Kevin Ryan, Frank Ryan, all Kewanee; seven stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild.

Louise Hamilton
Louise K. Hamilton, 49, of Davenport, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Pine Hill cemetery , Davenport.

She was born Jan. 25, 1958.

Survivors include her fiance, Wayne Sheer, Davenport; brother, Lester Wulf, Davenport; sisters, Barb Peek, Missouri, and Ruthann McConnell, Davenport; and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda Wyjack.

Franklin Hartley
Franklin B. Hartley, 77, of Davenport, passed away at his home Monday, Oct. 8, 2007.

Arrangements are pending at the Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Laren Jordahl
Laren Jordahl, 64, of Davenport, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Weerts, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, with military honors.

He was born in 1941 to Ben and Elna Jordahl. On Oct. 17, 1963, he married Marlene K. Leibrich.

Surviving are wife, Marlene; son, Bryan Jordahl, Davenport; daughters, Brenda Jordahl-Buckles, Davenport, Tanya (Scott) Stephens, Geneseo; seven grandchildren; and sister, Janice Roeder, Kansas City, Kan.

Beverly Nelson
Beverly J. Nelson, of Davenport, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.

She was born in 1926 in Davenport.

Surviving are her husband, Jim; daughters, Linda Baratte, Summit, N.J., LuAnn Boss, Waterloo, Iowa; son, Randy Nelson, Valparaiso, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Glenn Howard, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Gary Howard, Bettendorf.

Katherine `Kay' Leach Stafford
Katherine "Kay" Leach Stafford passed away Oct. 1, 2007, in Hudson, Ohio.

Services are 11 a.m. on Oct. 25 at the First Presbyterian Church, Davenport, with Sue Howes and Scott Minteer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Genesis Health Services Foundation or The Quad City Symphony.

Kay was born in Alexandria, Minn., in 1916, to Hugh and Clara Leach. She attended Carleton College, where she met her future husband, William R. Stafford. Kay transferred to Northwestern University, from which she graduated with a degree in music and English.

Kay and Bill began their married life on a cattle ranch in Nye, Mont. In 1949, they moved to Davenport, where they raised their family and began a family business, Tri State Toro.

Kay shared her love of music by leading children's choirs and was an enthusiastic volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital, where she was president of the auxiliary and co-chair of the first Gala, a tradition that continues today. Kay also was president of the American Field Service Program. After battling breast cancer in 1968, Kay brought to the state of Iowa the Reach to Recovery Program to help mastectomy patients after surgery. Kay was a charter member of Chapter LM of PEO and enjoyed the organization and its members for more than 40 years.

Upon Bill's retirement, the Staffords began a new adventure as hardwood tree farmers in Wisconsin.

After Bill died, Kay moved to a retirement home in Hudson, Ohio, near her daughter Mary. Kay continued her active volunteer life in Hudson.

Kay is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Hugh and Debby Stafford, Davenport, and their two children, Hugh "Has," Davenport, and Allison, Des Moines; and her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Richard Payne, Minneapolis, and their two daughters, Sarah, San Francisco, and Lindsay, Los Angeles.

Harry Carstens Jr.
Harry A. Carstens Jr., 83, of West Chester, Ohio, formerly of Rock Island, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Frederick Findlay
Frederick E. "Fred" Findlay, 94, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Moline Gospel Temple. DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, is assisting the family.

Frederick was born July 13, 1913, in Rock Island, the son of George and Regina Terry Findlay. He married the former Leona M. Ferns.

He was employed at John Deere Plow Planter for 17 years in the forge shop, owned Doc's Market in Moline for nine years,and worked for the Midwest Biscuit Co. servicing the Illinois Quad-Cities area for several years. Later he worked for the East Moline State Hospital as a driver and then as a toll taker on the former Moline/Bettendorf bridge before his retirement.

He was a member of the Moline Gospel Temple and the Rock Island Moose Club. Fred enjoyed fishing with his brother, Joe, performing magic and entertaining.

Survivors include his wife, Leona; son and daughter-in-law, Sky (George) and Eleanor Findlay, Arlington Heights, Ill.; grandchildren and their spouses, Tim and Beth Findlay, Hubertus, Wis., Tamara and Scott Lindsey, Carpentersville, Ill., Marc Findlay, McHenry, Ill.; sister, Grace Smith, Oregon; brother, Ray Findlay, Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Jillian, Emily, Abigail, Nathaniel, Trevor and Mara. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth; and his brother, Joe.
