William Bill Olesen

Services: Funeral services will be held on Monday, at 11: 00 a.m., at Coralville United Methodist Church 806 13th Ave. with the Rev. Doug Williams officiating.
Visitation: Visitation will be on Sunday from 4: 00 to 7: 00 p.m. at Lensing’s OakHill-Coralville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the William Olesen Memorial Fund.
William “Bill” Olesen, 50, of North Liberty died Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.
William was born September 10, 1954 in Agana, Guam the son of Donald James and Dorothy Ann (Sturgeons) Olesen. On August 22, 1980 he married
Cynthia Tritt. On December 17, 1988 he married
Ann (Elder). Bill worked as the Deli Manager at Holiday Foods in North Liberty, Iowa and previously worked at the Highlander Inn. He had strong community involvement, especially with the United Methodist Church and he served as past president of the North Liberty Optimist Club.
He is survived by his wife Ann of North Liberty, Iowa, his three children, Nickolaus Olesen and his wife Chris of Neenah, Wisconsin, and Simon and Emily Olesen both of North Liberty, Iowa. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Olesen of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, his sisters, Sandra Olesen Brown of Lakefield, Minnesota, Jeanna Olesen of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and his recently reunited biological sister, Joni Wilson of Boston. Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Lane Sheffield

Lane Cowley Sheffield, 42, of Iowa City died Thursday, December 9, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics following an illness.
Lane was born March 30, 1962 in Salt Lake City, Utah the son of Val Jolley and Jewell (Cowley) Sheffield. He grew up in Glendale, CA. He was a self-employed computer specialist. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. Lane could fix anything. Everyone loved his gentleness and his sense of humor.
Lane is survived by his father of Bountiful, Utah, his two brothers Val C. Sheffield of Iowa City and Matthew C. Sheffield of Glendale, CA and sister, Karen Sheffield Morgan of Provo, Utah and all of their families.
Lane was preceded in death by his mother.
Margaret F. Seemuth

Services: Margaret chose to be cremated. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10: 00 AM at Oak Hill cemetery in Coralville.
Visitation: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology for a fund to be established in Margaret’s name.
Margaret F. Seemuth, 82, of 176 Bon Aire in Iowa City, died Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at her home after an extended illness.
Margaret was born November 9, 1922 in Iowa City, the daughter of George H. & Gertrude (Solnar) Seemuth. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City and has been a lifelong resident of Iowa City.
Margaret Seemuth worked for the University of Iowa Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology from 1956 until her retirement in 1992. She began her career as departmental secretary at the department’s first location in Seashore Hall. She moved to the department’s current location, Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center, with it’s completion in 1968 and was the department’s Office Coordinator until her retirement in 1992. Margaret was beloved by her co-workers and many decades of PhD students who looked upon her as their heroine who typed their dissertations!
Survivors include two brothers, Robert Seemuth (Lois) of Iowa City and George Seemuth (Laura) of Nixa, Missouri; a very special friend, Robert George of Iowa City and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents.
Katherine Margaret Joslin-Lemire

Services: A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas More Church in Iowa City on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at 6: 00 pm. A reception will follow at the family’s home.
Visitation: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund established in Katherine’s name at Hills Bank.
Katherine Margaret Joslin-Lemire died December 7, 2004, of complications following surgery. Born December 14, 1998, Katherine was a fabulous almost-6-year-old!! She faced many challenges in her short life and met them all with fierce determination. Katherine relied on her loving family and friends, outstanding doctors, and the unflagging support of her nurses and therapists to flourish. She was a joyous blessing to her family and they will miss her every day.
Awaiting Katherine in heaven will be her great-grandmother Hester Waddell and grandmother Karen Lemire. She will be missed enormously by her parents Jennifer Joslin and Theresa Lemire, her sister Melissa, and brother Anthony; her grandparents, Edwin and Norma Henderson, Richard Lemire, and Janis and Lou Kessler; her great-grandmothers Margaret Lemire, and Verna Gamel; her great-aunt Jimmie Crawford; her aunt and uncles Jerri and Mike Bradley, and Rick Lemire, and her large extended family.
John Henry Ehlers

Services: A short graveside gathering will take place @ 1PM, Saturday, December 11 for family and close friends at the Reinbeck cemetery , Reinbeck, Iowa.

John Henry Ehlers, 88, of Iowa City died December 7, 2004 in Iowa City.
Born December 6, 1916, John passed on to be with his wife, Maretta, deceased June 26, 1998 and patiently waiting for him. John died peacefully doing what he enjoyed most, enjoying a good dinner. His 88 years filled with great friends and wonderful memories will live forever among those who survive him, including daughter Debbie Krenz, her husband Gene, granddaughters Kari Downey and Stacie Woods, and great granddaughters Grace and Claire; sons in law Eric Downey and Dennis Woods; son Steve Ehlers, daughter in law Sharry, and grandsons Brian and John; brothers Ray, Bob, Gene and their families. John's other family includes his many friends at the Iowa City Senior Center where he was reigning pool shark and champion for many years and all the gifted and wonderful staff at the Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Kenneth J. Kasper

Services: Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10AM, December 10, 2004 at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial with military rites provided by local military organizations will be at St. Joseph’s cemetery .
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 7PM, Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Vigil Service will be held at 5PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Regina Education Center c/o Catholic Community Foundation.
Ken J. Kasper, 77, 2316 Wayne Avenue, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Windmill Manor following a brief illness.
Ken was born April 19, 1927 in Solon, Iowa, the son of Delbert and Anna Kessler Kasper. He was a 1945 graduate of St. Mary’s High School and served in the Air Force during World War II. On April 19, 1951 he married
Alice Holdgrafer at St. Mary’s Church in Marshalltown.
Ken had been employed by the F.W. Means Company for twenty six years and later the Iowa State Liquor Store in Iowa City.
Ken was a member of St. Mary’s Church, where he was a greeter and usher, the Knights of Columbus Marquette Council 842 and American Legion Post #17. He enjoyed time with his family, especially attending the activities that his grandchildren were involved in at Regina. Ken liked to travel and follow the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Ken is survived by his wife Alice and their daughter, Barb (Mike) Earles of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Nick and Caite; two sisters Delma and Wilma Kasper of Iowa City;
His sister in law, Elsie Holdgrafer of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Mary Louise and one brother Ralph.

Hannah Marion Klein, 91, formerly of Oxford, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch following a long illness.
Marion was born May 27, 1913 in rural Iowa City to George and Johanna (Andersen) Jensen. She attended country school in rural Johnson County and she was a graduate of University High School in Iowa City. She married
Louis Klein on February 2, 1932 at St. Mary’s in Iowa City. They farmed near Tiffin until 1969 when much of their farm was purchased by the government to make way for I-80 and I-380 highways and interchange.
Marion enjoyed gardening, flowers, feeding and watching the birds, baking Danish pastry, sewing Raggedy Ann dolls, handicrafts and her family and friends. She was devoted to her family and beloved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marion was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City and the Altar & Rosary Society; Farm Bureau Rural Women; Iowa City Women’s Club; and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. She received a 50 year membership pin from the Foresters.
Marion is survived by four sons: Jim (Marilyn) Klein of Wilmington, NC; Jack of Eagan, MN; George (Kathy) Klein of Oxford; and Tom Klein of Oxford; three daughters: Joan (Francis) Cahill of West Branch; Betty (Maynard) Rayner of Lone Tree; and Rose (David) Stevens of Borden, IN; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Blanche Klein; and many nieces and nephews.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louis in 1973; two brothers: Fred Jensen and John Jensen; five sisters: infant twins Sidsel and Marie Jensen, Agnes Sexton, Sylvia Volk and Mary Jensen.

Charlotte Rains, 78, of 823 Longfellow Court, passed away Monday December 6, 2004 at Mercy Hospital.
Charlotte Elizabeth Rains was born July 6, 1926 in West Liberty, Iowa the daughter of Ray and Elsie (Hannah) Smith. Char graduated from Oxford High School in May 1945. She was very proud to play on both the softball and basketball teams. She earned her teaching certificate from Cornell College. After graduating from college, Char taught school in the Oxford Community for four years.
Char married
Craig Freeman Satterly in June 1948. Their son Kevin Craig was born March 29, 1952. Craig passed away in 1967. She married
Rocky M. Rains on September 4, 1971. Rocky passed away on August 15, 1988.
Char worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City for the next 26 years. She was very active in the American Federation of Government Employees Union (AFGE). She was elected to the role of president and performed these duties for many years. After leaving the VA, she moved to Elkhorn, Nebraska to work for the 8th District office of AFGE. Char retired from AFGE on September 30, 2004 after 27 years. She then returned to the Iowa City area.
Char was a longtime member of Faith United Church of Christ. She and Craig helped establish the church community in Iowa City. Char loved to fish. She owned her own camper, boat, motorcycle and ATV. She enjoyed the quiet weekends fishing at the lake, alone or with family and friends.
When not working or fishing, Char was watching sports – baseball, basketball and football. She was a loyal Hawkeye fan despite living in Nebraska. She had a passion for her profession. She thrived on working on relationships between labor and management. She chose to work until two months ago because of this. Her work brought her a strong connection with politics, both local and national. Char had a very strong love for her family and friends.
Char is survived by her son Kevin Satterly and his wife Ann and their children Nicole and Ryan; her adopted son Scott Coffin and his wife Heidi and their children Olivia, Cayleb and Gabrielle; and her sister Erma Tomas.
Char was preceded in death by her parents, both her husbands, two brothers Harley and Kenneth Smith and four sisters Leatha Shafer, Dorothy Smith, Margaret Tomash and Helen Kinney.

Nancy C. Nissley, 71, of Wellman, IA, died Saturday December 4, 2004 in Iowa City.
Nancy was born November 7, 1933 in Iowa City to R. Maynard and Silence (Norenberg) Bowers. She married
L. Leroy Nissley in 1949. They were later divorced. She married
Richard Enfield August 2, 1997 in Wellman, IA. Nancy was a member of First Mennonite Church of Iowa City. Nancy worked at the Iowa House Hotel in the Iowa Memorial Union for twenty years.
Nancy enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers, quilting, cooking, handcrafts and her family and many friends.
Nancy is survived by her husband Rich, five sons; Eugene (Pat) Nissley, John (Sandy) Nissley of Iowa City, Terry (Denise) Nissley of Lacey, WA, Randy (Deb) Nissley of Hills, Mervin Nissley of Buford, GA. Two stepchildren; Rick Enfield (Brenda) of Cedar Rapids and Tina (Terry) Chapman of North Liberty. One brother Paul Bowers (Mary Lou) of Iowa City. Nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, Nine great grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, one nephew and 3 nieces.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a son Kevin.
