Charles “Tuna” Jaeger, age 57 of Burlington passed away Sunday, April 28, 2002 at his home after an extended illness.

Born September 2, 1944 in Burlington he was the son of Raymond Charles and Helen Greta Bragg Jaeger. He married Ranee Martin on October 12, 1985 in Burlington.

Mr. Jaeger was a 1963 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Vietnam era. He worked at General Electric for 29 years retiring in April of 2001. He was a member of Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie No. 150. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, camping and duck hunting. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

Survivors include his wife, Ranee, his parents; three brothers, Donald “Skip” Jaeger, and Richard Jaeger both of Burlington, Frederick Jaeger of Victoria, IL; three sisters, Edith Jaeger of Kingsford, Mich., Donna Hull of Burlington, and Diana Jackson of Berthoud, Colo.; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, Aunts and Uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation will be after 8:00 AM Wednesday, May 1, at the Hass Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Mr. Jaeger will be 10:30 AM Thursday, May 2, at the Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend Ron Jewett officiating. Interment will be in Long Creek Cemetery , rural Danville with full military honors rendered by the VFW Posts 10102, 9162, American Legion Post 52 and the Marine Corps League. A memorial has been established to Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene.

Ruth G. Minster

Ruth G. Minster, age 72 of Burlington passed away at 5:54 PM Monday, May 20, 2002 at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born July 6, 1929 in Washington, County, she was the daughter of Enos Charles and Lucinda Mae Brantwait Lovell. She married Ozzie A. Minster on September 10, 1950.

Mrs. Minster was a 1948 graduate of Fairfield High School. She was a housewife and a loving mother.

Survivors include her husband, Ozzie; one son, Don Minster of Texas; two daughters, Julie (Tracey) Barker of Schertz, TX and Cindy (Phil) Burton of Watertown, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Corey Barker, Matthew and Noah Minster, Sophia and Anthony Burton; two brothers in law, Bill Minster of Burlington and Ray Carter of Fairfield; one sister in law, Millie Minster of Burlington; and 23 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters, one son, Jerry Minster, and three nieces and nephews.

The body of Mrs. Minster has been cremated. The Memorial Graveside Committal Service and Inurnment for Mrs. Minster will be 1:00 PM Thursday, May 24, at the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery with the Reverend Trevor Davis officiating. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.

Leslie Savage-ghavami
August 26, 1956 - June 10, 2002

Leslie Lynn Savage-ghavami, age 45, of Burlington, formerly of Newton, KS, passed away at 2:00 AM Monday, June 10, 2002 at the Rosebush Gardens Health Center, after a lengthy illness.

Born August 26, 1956, in Burlington she was the daughter of William Eugene “Bill” and Evangeline Swanson Savage.

Mrs. Savage- ghavami was a graduate of Burlington High School. She worked with the elderly at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, KS. She was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the Sweet Adeline’s Choir Group. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed music, reading, camping and listening to crickets, birds and train whistles.

Survivors include her mother, Evangeline; one daughter, Hannah Kristine Ghavami; three brothers, Mike Savage of Tucson, AZ, Richard Savage of Las Cruces, NM, and Bill Savage of San Antonio, TX; three sisters, Laura Johnson and Holly Logas, both of Burlington, and Julie Thomas of St. Louis, MO; 11 nieces; five nephews; two great nephews; and one special friend, Jason Hedstrom of Newton, KS. She was preceded in death by her father.

Her body has been cremated. Friends may call after 8:00 AM Thursday, June 13, at the Hass Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM. The Memorial Service for Mrs. Savage-ghavami will be 10:30 AM Friday, June 14, in the Chapel of the Hass Funeral Home with the Reverend Patti Webb of Peace Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . In Lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for her daughter’s college education.

Marvin Carl Liles
May 09, 1936 - June 16, 2002

Marvin Carl Liles, age 66, of Burlington, passed away at 10:15 PM Sunday, June 16, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born May 9, 1936 in Burlington he was the son of Herschel and Hazel Schulz Liles. He married Brenda Jo Harris on October 12, 1961, in Burlington.

Mr. Liles was in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and the Cuban Crisis. He was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School. He was assistant manager and Leasee manager of Davison Oil Gas Station in Muscatine for several years; he then worked for Champion Spark Plug Co. for 21 ˝ years. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He was a workaholic and always busy tinkering. Early in his married life he enjoyed boating on the Mississippi, tent camping and traveling. Later on he camped at Seven Ponds and absolutely loved all the camping activities with family and friends. His lifetime was filled with joy and love during his favorite past time of playing cards and board games with his wife, sons, grandson, mother-in-law and other family members and friends. He was the most wonderful, kind, thoughtful, ambitious, friendly and loving husband, father, relative and friend. A life to be celebrated and loved by all.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda; three sons, Brad Liles of Euless, TX, Eric Liles of Mediapolis, and Kevin Liles of Burlington; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Hallet Liles of Danville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

The body of Mr. Liles has been cremated. he family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 PM Friday, June 21, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Memorial Service for Mr. Liles will be 1:00 PM Friday, June 21, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Janice H. Larson officiating. There will be a time of fellowship immediately following the service at the church. A memorial has been established for the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Phyllis M. Picker
August 22, 1923 - June 20, 2002
Burlington, Iowa

Phyllis M. Picker, age 78, of Burlington, passed away at 10:23 AM Thursday, June 20, 2002, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born August 22, 1923, in Lucas County, IA, she was the daughter of Ralph H. and Eva Marie Gookin Long. She married Warren H. Picker on February 18, 1946, in Burlington.

Mrs. Picker worked at the Burlington Golf Club for 38 years. She retired in 1991. She was of the Protestant faith. After retirement, she was an avid volunteer for the Salvation Army.

Survivors include her husband, Warren; three sons, Dan (Judy) Picker of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Steve (Rennae) Picker of Dallas, Texas, and Scott (Betsy) Picker of Pleasanton, California; two grandchildren, Alex and Coby; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

The body of Mrs. Picker has been cremated. Friends may call afternoon Saturday, June 22, at the Hass Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 7:00PM. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Alice L. Champagne, age 76, of Burlington, passed away at 4:00 AM Saturday, June 29, 2002, at her home.

Born May 8, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Homer and Mildred Knoll Henry Sr. She married Harvey F. Rudy Jr. on May 12, 1943. He died May 8, 1967. She then married Donald Z. Champagne May 23, 1981 in Burlington.

Mrs. Champagne was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ. She enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye’s Basketball, Laurence Welk, Guy Lombardo, and dancing.

Survivors include her husband Donald; one son, Dan (Christine) Rudy of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Marilyn (Bill) Ward and Alice (Larry) Rollins both of Burlington; 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren; one brother, John Henry of Richland, Washington; several nieces and nephews and cousins. Besides her first husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James Rudy, three sisters, and one brother.

Friends may call after 8:00 AM Monday, July 1, at the Hass Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The Funeral Service for Mrs. Champagne will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 2, in the Chapel of the Hass Funeral Home with the Reverend Vicki J. Engelmann officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in West Burlington. A memorial has been established to St. Luke United Church of Christ.

Jon David Ahlstedt, age 55, of Burlington, passed away Friday, July 5, 2002 at his daughter’s home in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Born August 7, 1946 in Scottsbluff, NE he was the son of John Durbin and Virginia Faye Krull Ahlstedt.

Mr. Ahlstedt had returned to college first attending Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau and the Southeastern Community College. He was an avid racing fan and toy collector. He also collected movie videos and antiques.

Survivors include his father and stepmother John and Cleta Ahlstedt of Lock Springs, MO; one daughter, Tamara Lynn (Paul) Van Meter of Cape Girardeau, MO; six grandchildren; one sister, Margaret R. (Paul) Ahlstedt-Kollar of Garner, NC; and one nephew, Joshua Feldman. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Friends may call after 8:00 AM Tuesday, July 9, at the Hass Funeral Home until noon. There will be no family visitation. The Graveside Committal Service and Interment for Mr. Ahlstedt will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 9, at the Aspen Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Smith of the First Christian Church officiating. Those planning to attend the service are asked to meet at the Sunnyside Ave. entrance to the cemetery at 12:45 PM.

Cecil Florence Jones
September 15, 1905 - July 06, 2002
Burlington, Iowa

Cecile Florence Jones, age 96, of Burlington, passed away at 5:28 AM Saturday, July 6, 2002 at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born September 15, 1905 in Lockridge she was the daughter of John and Florence Elizabeth Smith Farman. On September 29, 1926, she married Glen D. Jones in Mt. Pleasant. He died April 26, 1990.

Mrs. Jones was a 1924 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. She was employed at Bell Telephone Co. as a switch board operator previous to her marriage. She was a homemaker from 1926 until the time of her death. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and a member of United Methodist Women and various other groups. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She served as an attendant for the Des Moines County Historical Society. She enjoyed reading, writing letters, serving, growing and tending to flowers.

Survivors include one son-in-law Paul E. Wilson of Hawthorne, CA; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, three sisters, and two brothers.

Friends may call after noon Sunday, July 7, at the Hass Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. There will be no family visitation. The Funeral Service for Mrs. Jones will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 8, at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Reverend Richard A. Purcell officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . A memorial has been established to Asbury United Methodist Church.
