Jackie K. McCoy, 59, of Burlington, died at 8:25 AM Friday, February 27, 2004, at her home.

Born July 27, 1944 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Monty and Suzanne Lyons Snyder. She was raised by Harry and Bernice Lockwood. Ms. McCoy was a 1962 Burlington High School graduate. She attended Burlington Community College and Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery. In 1982 she was the first woman gunsmith to receive a degree in Iowa.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed flower gardens and taking care of her yard, interior decorating, collecting knick-knacks, antiques and crafts, and she especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and her grandchildren. She was also an accomplished seamstress.

Survivors include one son, Patrick D. McCoy of Burlington; one daughter, Amy S. McCoy of Burlington; three grandchildren, Nathan D. McCoy, Dylan B. McCoy, and Bethany Anne McCoy; one sister; one uncle of Burlington; one aunt, Barbara Zaiser of Cedar Falls; numerous cousins; one niece; two nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, who died in Okinawa, Japan during World War II, and her mother.

Visitation will be after 8:00 AM Monday March 1, at the Hass Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Ms. McCoy will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 2, in the Chapel of the Hass Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Dennis G. Tevis officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . In Lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for her grandchildren.

John Edward Schwartz Sr.
July 10, 1933 - March 11, 2004
Burlington, Iowa

Visitation: Friends may call afternoon until 7:00 PM. There will be no family visitation. Sunday March 14, 2004 at Hass Funeral Home

John Edward Schwartz Sr., 70, of Burlington, died at 9:03 AM, Thursday, March 11, 2004, at his home.

Born July 10, 1933, in Burlington, he was the son of Oscar Edward and Helen Louise Williams Schwartz. On December 12, 1956, he married Shirley A. Osborne in Oceanside, California. They later divorced. On September 2, 1982, he married Valerie J. Gantz in Burlington.

Mr. Schwartz worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown from 1959 to 1998. He was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School. He was an Air Force veteran serving from 1951 until 1955. He was an avid woodworker, St. Louis Rams football fan, St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He also enjoyed pheasant and mushroom hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie; two sons, John Schwartz, Jr. and Eric (Jennifer) Schwartz both of Burlington; two daughters, Marie Schwartz and Shawn Schwartz both of Burlington; one step daughter, Holly Dehner of West Burlington; seven grandchildren and one step grandchild and a special friend, his dog, Winnie. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one grandson and one step grandson.

As per his request his body has been cremated. Friends may call afternoon Sunday, March 14, at the Hass Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. There will be no family visitation. The Graveside Committal Service and Inurnment for Mr. Schwartz will be 1:00 PM, Friday, April 16, at the Aspen Grove Cemetery with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and the Animal Protection League of Southeast Iowa.

Leo Francis Ertz
February 23, 1928 - March 22, 2004
Burlington, Iowa

Visitation: After 8:00 AM where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends following a 6:00 PM Christian Wake Service until 8:00 PM Thursday March 25, 2004 at Hass Funeral Home
Mass of the Resurrection: 10:30 AM Friday March 26, 2004 at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington
Interment: Sacred Heart Cemetery

Leo Francis Ertz, 76, of Burlington, died at 11:45 PM, Monday, March 22, 2004, at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehabilitation Center in Mediapolis.

Born February 23, 1928, in Burlington he was the son of Sampson Edward and Matilda Bertha Stumpf Ertz. He married Ruth Marie Witte on January 6, 1951 in Ft. Madison.

Mr. Ertz was a Machinist at Burlington Northern Railroad for 45 years. He retired in 1990. He was U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington where he was a past president of the parish council, the Knights of Columbus, council #568 where he was Grand Knight six times, district deputy three times, State Warden two years, a 4th Degree Member of the Mackin Assembly, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie No, 150, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102, A.A.R.P., the Mainliners, I.A.M. & the aerospace Workers Lodge #531, Burlington Baseball Association, he was also a paper carrier, worked for the Zephyr Theater in down town Burlington, and was on the West Burlington City Council. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and especially spending time at the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Marie; one son, David Ertz of Bloomfield; three daughters, Debra Maurer of Georgetown, Ind., Deann Durbin of Augusta, and Donna Youde of Southerland; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Ertz of Burlington; two sisters, Helen Hinson of Kingston and Peg Geren of Burlington and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Friends may call after 8:00 AM Thursday, March 25, at the Hass Funeral Home where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 4:00 PM. There will be a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 PM after which the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Ertz will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 26, at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Rev. Father Gerald E. Stouvenel as the Celebrant and Rev. Father Dennis Martin and Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as concelebrants. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery . Memorials have been established to the Knights of Columbus, Anchor Building Corp. and Knights of Columbus Perpetual memorial.

Larry Dale Rounds
August 29, 1936 - April 04, 2004
Burlington, Iowa

Larry Dale Rounds, 67, of Burlington, died at 5:33 PM, Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the Great River Medical Center Klein Center.

Born August 28, 1936 in Missouri Valley, IA he was the son of Hiriam and Katie Jones Rounds. He married Dianna E. Wiley on April 3, 1966 in Burlington. They later divorced.

Mr. Rounds worked in Construction most of his life. He was an avid Jeff Gordon Race Car fan, loved dogs, and enjoyed spending time at Jerry’s Main Lunch.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Dale Rounds of Denver, Colo and Cory Owen Rounds of Burlington; two daughters, Lorie Lynn Rounds and Kristina Renee Rounds both of Burlington; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be after 8:00 AM Wednesday, April 7, at the Hass Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 PM. After the visitation the body of Mr. Rounds will be cremated. A memorial has been established.

Violet Yvonne Trobee
November 20, 1927 - April 08, 2004
Burlington, Iowa

Violet Yvonne Trobee, 76, of Burlington, died at 6:00 PM, Thursday, April 8, 2004, at her home.

Born November 20, 1927 in Burlington she was the daughter of Arthur Harry and Merle Glendora Steinbrecher Trobee. She married Glenn Albert Rundorff in 1945 in Burlington. On December 12, 1967 she married Clarence Eugene Salsberry in Lancaster, MO. He died August 19, 1987.

Mrs. Trobee was a secretary at various offices in Burlington. She was a member of the Des Moines County Genealogical Society and a former member of the Hawkeye Stamp Club. She enjoyed sewing, genealogy and reading.

Survivors include one son, Dean E. Salsberry of Burlington; and several nephews. Besides her husbands she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

As per her request her body has been cremated. The Graveside Committal Service and Inurnment for Mrs. Trobee will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, April 14, at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery with the Reverend Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. A memorial has been established. The Hass Funeral Home in care of the arrangements.

Samuel Isador Houseal
September 19, 1919 - April 08, 2004

Samuel Isador Houseal, 84, of Burlington, died at 3:38 PM, Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.

Born September 19, 1919, in Ainsworth, Iowa, he was the son of Isador and Anna Quinn Houseal. He married Lena R. Davidson on June 1, 1953 in Washington, Iowa.

Mr. Houseal had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. He was a Route Salesman for many years at Sweetheart Bread Company, Tom’s Sales, and Star Mail Route. He was a graduate of Ainsworth High School. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp serving as a flight instructor at the Altus Army Airfield in Altus, Oklahoma during WW II. He was of the Catholic faith. Sam enjoyed watching baseball, mushroom hunting, growing tomatoes, summertime, playing cards, and going to the boat. Also spending time with family and friends and taking care of his four legged companions, Snooper and Oscar.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Mike) Knotts and Beth (John) Ripple both of Burlington; four grandchildren, Shenda Vikturek, Shane Houseal, Shon Knotts and Bradley Stevens; four great grandchildren; one brother, William Houseal of St. Joseph, Michigan; two sisters, Mrs. Grant (Grace) McKune of Washington and Mrs. Lloyd (Ruth) Kruse of Davenport; several nieces and nephews and his special friend Vera Lyons. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.

Visitation will be after 9:00 AM Monday, April 12, at the Hass Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM after which the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Mr. Houseal will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 13, in the Chapel of the Hass Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf officiating. A Graveside Committal Service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 14, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with Mr. Alan Budelier officiating. A memorial has been established.

Daisy G. Thielen
November 20, 1909 - April 25, 2004

Daisy G. Thielen, 94, of Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, died Sunday afternoon, April 25, 2004 at the nursing home.

She was born Nov. 20, 1909, in Fremont, Ill., to Frank and Celia Strauch Shilling. She married Edwin H. Thielen on July 5, 1932, in Hopkins Township in Whiteside County, Ill. He died in January 27, 1981.

She farmed with her late husband in Clyde Township in Whiteside County. She was a former member of the Malvern United Methodist Church and the church's Ladies Aid Society. She also was a member of Coleta United Methodist Church. Her interests included nature and wildlife, birds, and flowers.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gayle (Robert) Tegeler of Divernon, Ill.; three sons, Edwin (Rose) Thielen Jr. of Roy, UT., Wayne Thielen of Fulton, Ill., and James (Dorothy) Thielen of Coleta; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Dampman of Lanark, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, one daughter, Susan Walters, three sisters and seven brothers.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Polly Klimson, pastor of Coleta (Ill.) United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the South Clyde Cemetery , Morrison. Memorials may be made to Resthave Nursing Home.

Harry Edward Perdue
November 04, 1918 - April 25, 2004
Burlington, Iowa

Graveside Service: 1:30 PM Saturday May 08, 2004 at Olena Cemetery in Olena, Illinois
Harry Edward Perdue, 85, of Burlington, died at 9:40 PM, Sunday, April 25, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.

Born November 4, 1918, in Olena, Stronghurst Township, IL, he was the son of the late Chalmer Ernest and Pearl Agnes Hunt Perdue, of Olena. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving from 1941-1945 as a Military Policeman First Class with the 33rd MP Platoon. He was awarded two bronze stars for action in the New Guinea and Southern Philippines Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaigns.

Mr. Perdue sold cars for many years at Archer Motors and Service Motors, eventually owning his own car lot, Agency Auto Sales. He owned and operated the Iowa Tavern for eight years prior to retirement. He was of the Methodist Faith. He loved the Mississippi River, and had wonderful times on his boat. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and card player, playing pitch with his buddies during his retirement years.

Survivors include one son, Howard Perdue, of California; one sister, Ilene Perdue Sandage Olson, of Stronghurst, IL; two nieces, Joanna and Pamela; a great niece and nephew; and a great great niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Verna Alice Perdue, and his longtime companion, Zola Loose.

As per his request his body has been cremated. The Graveside Memorial Service and Inurnment for Mr. Perdue will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, May 8th at the Olena Cemetery , Olena, IL., with the Reverend John F. Grimes officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Henderson County VFW Post #7082.
