Mary Lou Titus, 67, of La Harpe, IL formerly of Burlington died at 7:00 AM, Thursday, August 12, 2004 at her home.

Born June 5, 1937 in Burlington she was the daughter of Ernest E. and Bertha Marie Freitag Westgate. She married Frank W. Titus on March 2, 1957 in Burlington.

Mrs. Titus was a Homemaker. She had worked at Sylvania, Midwest Biscuit and Winegard Co. She was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Burlington Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, reading books, and collecting cow items. She also was an avid Elvis Presley fan and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Frank W. Titus of La Harpe, IL, four daughters, Cynthia Hiland of Burlington, Catherine Harper of Burlington, Karen Titus of Burlington and Tina Hunter of Choctaw, Ark; one son, Frank R. Titus of Burlington; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Westgate of Orman Beach, FL; two sisters, Patricia Fe Dora of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Shirley Talbott of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Titus has been cremated, as per her request. The Graveside Committal Service and Inurnment for Mrs. Titus will be 1:00 PM, Monday, August 16, at the Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend Richard A. Purcell officiating. In Lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Blessing Hospice of Carthage, IL.

Mildred V. Richcreek
October 02, 1915 - August 15, 2004
Burlington, Iowa formerly of Wichita, Kansas

Funeral Service: 7:00 PM Thursday August 19, 2004 at Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home
Interment: Resthaven Cemetery , Wichita, Kansas

Mildred V. Richcreek, 88, of the Klein Center, formerly of Wichita, KS, entered into eternal life at 8:46 AM, Sunday, August 15, 2004, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born October 2, 1915 in Salt Lake City, UT she was the daughter of Andrew and Edith Sheridan De Vore. She married Mayo S. Richcreek on November 24, 1932 in Wichita, KS. He died June 6, 1998.

Mrs. Richcreek was a Homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Wichita. She enjoyed painting, crafts, reading, knitting, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Marie Corder of Burlington and one son, Jerry Dale Richcreek of Wichita; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

The local Funeral Service for Mrs. Richcreek will be 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 19, in the Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Dennis G. Tevis officiating. Visitation will be Monday, August 23, at the Hillside West Funeral Home in Wichita from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Mrs. Richcreek will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 24 at the Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Ted Swope officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita. A memorial has been established to the Bethel Baptist Church.

D. Russel Rohrer
January 16, 1924 - August 28, 2004
Burlington, Iowa

D. Russel Rohrer, 80, of Burlington, died at 5:00 AM, Saturday, August 28, 2004 at his home.

Born January 16, 1924, in West Chester, IA he was the son of Daniel Lee and Thelma Page Rohrer. He married Bonnie J. Lake on April 5, 1943 in Burlington.

Mr. Rohrer worked as a truck driver for Bonewitz Chemical and Chittenden & Eastman for 35 years. For the last 23 years, he worked for Waterworks car wash. He was a 1941 graduate of Washington High School. He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran and served on the USS Philadelphia. He was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150, was lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102, Knights of Columbus 568, American Legion Post 52 and the USS Philadelphia Association.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie, one daughter, Karen Sue Parrish of Burlington; and one grandson, Ryan Russel Parrish of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Virginia Ramsey and one brother Bob Rohrer.

Visitation will be after 8:00 AM Monday, August 30, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Rohrer will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 31, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard, VFW Posts 10102, 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League, and AMVETS Post 29. A memorial has been established to SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.

Donald Richard Vinson
April 27, 1935 - September 05, 2004

Donald Richard Vinson, 69, of Burlington, died at 9:20 AM, Sunday, September 5, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born April 27, 1935, in Plano, IL he was the son James C. and June Lawrie Vinson. He married Janet Ann Halvorson on August 1, 1959, in Lake Mills, IA.

Mr. Vinson taught Chemistry and Astronomy at Burlington High School for 33 years where he also worked on high school drama and musical productions. He retired in 1996. He was a 1953 graduate of Oswego High School in Oswego, IL, a 1957 graduate of Iowa State College with his B.S., where he was an active member of the Acacia fraternity. He then graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1963 with his M.A. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of National Education Association, Burlington Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, Boy Scouts of America Troop #8, Order of the Arrow, and the Sasaya Dancers. He received the Silver Beaver Award. He worked on staff at Camp Eastman for many years. He received the Wood Badge Award and instructed in the program, completed a 10 day dream trek at Philmont Scout Ranch, helped develop COPE course and was a member of many other committees. After his retirement he enjoyed his exercising at the YMCA, doing home improvement projects and computer solitaire. He enjoyed nature and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; one son, James Henry Vinson of St Paul, MN and one daughter, Susan Kay Vinson of Lake Mills, IA; one sister, Janet (Gary) Ross of Danville, IL; nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Brian Eugene.

Visitation will be after 8:00 AM Wednesday, September 8, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home until 8:00 PM. There will be no family visitation. The Funeral Service for Mr. Vinson will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 9, at Messiah Lutheran Church with Reverend Donald D. Hoornstra officiating. As per the request of Mr. Vinson his body will be cremated after the services and inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials have been established to Boy Scouts of America and the American Cancer Society.

Robert Earl Sullivan
January 29, 1929 - September 18, 2004
West Burlington, Iowa

Visitation: After 8:00 AM with the family receiving friends from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday September 22, 2004 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM Thursday September 23, 2004 at Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home

Robert Earl Sullivan, 75, of West Burlington, died at 8:25 PM Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born January 29, 1929, in Burlington, he was the son of John Henry and Winnie Mae Ancelet Sullivan. On September 4, 1955, he married Marilyn Sue Edwards at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington.

Bob was an Iron Worker with local Union # 577 where he received his 50 year pin. He was a 1947 Burlington High School graduate. He was a 1949 Burlington Junior College graduate where he played on the 1947 Burlington Junior College Championship Football Team as a starting guard. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 532nd ESB’s. He was a former President of the Burlington Model Airplane Club. He also belonged to the Southeast Iowa Astronomy Club, Good Earth Organic Garden Club and was financial Secretary/ Treasurer to Local Union #577 for many years. He enjoyed all planes and trains, and playing pinochle. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodworker, and outdoorsman. He will be remembered best for his sense of humor and smile.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Kathleen G. (Rick) Schlueter of West Point, UT, and Susan L. Myers of Hooper, UT; two grandchildren, Heather R. Myers, and Dennis O. Myers III; one brother, Dale E. Sullivan of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Leroy, and one sister, Doris Wilson.

Visitation will be after 8:00 AM Wednesday, September 22, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Bob will be 1:00 PM Thursday, September 23, in the Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with the Reverend Trevor Davis officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard, VFW Posts 10102, 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League, and AMVETS Post 29. Memorials have been established to the Southeast Iowa Astronomy Club and the Burlington Public Library.

Kenneth Harold Hollister
April 08, 1953 - September 21, 2004

Kenneth Harold Hollister, 51 of Tallahassee, FL formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday September 21, 2004, at his home in Tallahassee.

Born April 8, 1953 in Clinton, IA he was the son of Ralph LeVerne and Polly Ann Simpson Hollister.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Hollister was a carpenter. He had worked at Midwest Biscuit Co. and managed the Maple Leaf Tavern. He was an avid deer hunter and mush roomer. He had shot a record buck in 1981.

Survivors include two daughters, Wendy Hollister-Recker of Ottumwa, IA and Rebecca J. Ford of Burlington; four grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas L. Hollister of Saucier, Mississippi, Raymond L. Hollister of Burlington, Patrick A. Hollister of West Burlington; one sister, Kathleen A. Connell of Tallahassee, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be after noon, Monday, September 27, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Mr. Hollister will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 28, in the Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with the Rev. Mr. Robert R. Gengenbacher officiating. Interment will be in North Walker Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard, VFW Posts 10102, 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League, and AMVETS Post 29. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.

Kathleen Davis

Kathleen "Kaytee" Davis, 75, of Burlington, died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born April 27, 1929, in Bur–lington, she was the daughter of Joseph H. and Ruth M. Gabriel Hemerling. On April 27, 1949, she married Ralph Edwin Davis in Burlington.

Mrs. Davis was a tax preparer with Walker & Egerton PC for 35 years.

She was a 1946 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Republican Party Des Moines County, Iowa State Central Republican Party, Des Moines County Historical Society and Des Moines County Humane Society. She was active in Planned Parenthood.

Survivors include her husband; three grandchildren; one sister, Betty Stanley of Burlington; one niece and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel.

The memorial service for Mrs. Davis will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, with Pastor Carl Engstrom officiating. The body has been cremated. Private family burial in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established.

Dallas Scott

Dallas Scott, 29, formerly of Burlington and St. Louis, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in Savannah, Ga. He was serving in the Coast Guard and obtained the rank of petty officer 2nd class.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Scott will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Coast Guard Honor Guard from Washington will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Kingston.

A memorial has been established.

Harry W. Stigge

The funeral service for Harry W. Stigge, 95, of Danville, who died December 2, 2004, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor John Fetterhoff will officiate. Interment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery , West Burlington, with military rites by Henry County Honor Guard. Visitation will begin at noon today at Elliott Chapel and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to the New London Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 7641.
