Lloyd Hinkle

Lloyd Edward Hinkle, 75, of rural Trenton, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born March 28, 1929, near Brighton, he was the son of Clarence and Nina Egli Hinkle. On July 24, 1949, he married Imogene Moore in Lockridge.

Mr. Hinkle worked at J.I. Case in Burlington, creameries in Mount Pleasant and Brighton and Messer Oil Co. in Washington for 18 years. He also farmed.

He attended school in Henry County. He was a lifelong member of Trenton Missionary Church, where he served as deacon. He also served on the Midwest District Missionary Church Camp Board. He served in the National Guard from 1948 to 1952.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis Hinkle of Burlington and Donald Hinkle of Des Moines; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one brother, John Hinkle of Wayland; and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Hinkle will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trenton Missionary Church, with the Revs. Stephen Ortmann, Larry Secor, Gary Hinkle and Pastor Don Johanson officiating. Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Trenton Missionary Church and Timber Lake's Camp near Ottawa, Kan., which is the Midwest District Missionary Church Camp.

Joe Van Veldhuizen

Joe Van Veldhuizen, 81, of Parkview Care Center, died at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 26, 1922, in Rock Valley, he was the son of Aart and Cornelia Brower Van Veldhuizen. On Aug. 12, 1943, he married Ida Van De Hoef in Sioux Center.

Mr. Van Veldhuizen was a farmer.

He was a member of First Christian Church. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Nancy Kimbell of Battleground, Wash.; four sons, Arthur Van Veldhuizen of Turner, Ore., Milo Van Veldhuizen of Burlington, Cornie Lee Van Veldhuizen of Sioux Center and Randy Van Veldhuizen of Hawarden; 21 grandchildren; nine great–grandchildren; three brothers, Pete Van Veldhuizen, Arie Van Veldhuizen and Cornie Van Veldhuizen of Inwood; and two sisters, Dora Koops of Lakewood, Calif., and Jennie Rus of Rock Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

The funeral for Mr. Van Veldhuizen will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. Milo Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.

A memorial has been established for First Christian Church.

Kenton Gill

Kenton Clark Gills, 57, of Fort Madison, died at 8:16 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born Feb. 23, 1947, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Cecil Randolph and Doris Dee Garretson Gill. On April 22, 2000, he married Janice Luann Schmidt Bevelheimer in Las Vegas.

Mr. Gill worked as a machinist for D.W. Products in Cedar Rapids.

He was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended the University of Iowa. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists.

Survivors include his wife; his mother of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Loree Pavlicek of Hiawatha; two nieces; one nephew; and his stepmother, Betty Gill, of Pilot Point, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The graveside service for Mr. Gill will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Schaller Cemetery in Schaller, with the Revs. Rob Robinson and Charlie Sander officiating.

Memorials have been established for PAWS and Fort Madison Library building fund.

Melvin Barry

Melvin Francis Barry, 76, of New London, died Friday Dec. 24, 2004, at his home in New London.

Born July 10, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of Leo and Amelia Mason Barry. On June 28, 1953, he married Marie Utt in Burlington.

Mr. Barry was employed at Wal–Mart Distributing for 10 years, at Burkhart's Hardware in New London for 20 years and at IAAP for 7 years.

He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in West Burlington and Burlington High School. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of New London VFW, Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Burlington for 56 years and served on the New London City Council for several years. He was a Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels, tinkering in the shop, bowling, golf and watching marching bands.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Amy Overton and Sara Francy, both of Mount Pleasant; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother and two half brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Barry will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Rod Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

A memorial has been established for Hospice of Central Iowa.

Robert Maxwell

Robert Maxwell, 77, of Victor, Colo., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005.

Born April 17, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry F. and Dorothy Hartman Maxwell. On Nov. 17, 1945, he married Colleen Maxwell. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Maxwell was a railroad switchman.

Survivors include one son, Harry Maxwell of Romeoville, Ill.; six daughters, Marilyn Sobotka of Salem, Ore., Kathleen Voight of Morris, Ill., Connie Scoggins of Louden, Texas, Rebecca Kyznar of Murray, Ky., Peggy Brush of Tulsa, Okla., and Laura Gardner of New Boston, Texas; 23 grandchildren; seven great–grandchildren; and one brother, William Maxwell of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, one brother and his parents.

There was a service for Mr. Maxwell in Victor. Burial will be in Romeoville.

Mountain Memorial in Divide, Colo., was in charge of arrangements.

Sophronia Campbell

Sophronia Ethel Campbell, 92, of Wapello died Tuesday morning, Feb. 8, 2005, at Heartland Health Care in Henry, Ill.

Born May 24, 1912, in Manville, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles and Emma Anderson Wonders. On Dec. 4, 1931, she married Kermit Owens Campbell in Monmouth, Ill. He died May 30, 1989.

Mrs. Campbell worked as a medical assistant for the Weber Clinic in Wapello for many years.

She was a graduate of Oakville High School. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge and the American Medical Assistant Association. She enjoyed bowling with the Wapello Women's League on the Tri–State Envelope Team until the age of 89. She also enjoyed a variety of crafts, especially sewing. She was a longtime resident of Wapello.

Survivors include one son, Darrel Campbell of Burlington; one daughter, Clara Ault of Tiskilwa, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 13 great–grandchildren; and two great–great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one son, two granddaughters and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Dudgeon–McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

The funeral for Mrs. Campbell will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dudgeon–McCulley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery . A gathering following the graveside committal will be at the United Methodist Church fellowship hall in Wapello.

Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church and Wapello Volunteer Fire Department.

Jack R. Tyrrel

The funeral service for Mr. Jack R. Tyrrel, 78, who died Thursday, January 29, 2004 will be Monday, February 2nd, at 10:00 AM in West Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Kirk Bennett will officiate. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service on Monday. A memorial has been established for West Avenue Baptist Church.

Doris L. Wilson

The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Doris Louise Wilson, 73, who died Thursday, January 29, 2004 will be Saturday, February 7, 2004 at 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Frank Beaty will officiate. Inurnment will be in Blakeway Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends 10 AM Saturday until the time of service. Mrs. Wilson has donated her body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, memorials to GRMC Hospice and the YWCA Battered Women's Shelter have been established.

Kenneth Hand

Kenneth Hand, 76, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born May 7, 1928, in Keokuk, he was the son of Fred and Lula Dedman Hand. On June 10, 1948, he married Evie Foster in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. Hand was self–employed as a contractor.

He was of the Presbyterian faith. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and horse shoes. He liked working with his hands and contracting. He enjoyed going to auctions.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve Hand of Bloomington, Ill., and Milt Hand of Moline, Ill.; four grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Ruroden of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated.

A graveside service for Mr. Hand will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, with Pastor Bob Wagner officiating.

A memorial has been established for Hamilton Senior Citizens.

Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.

Hans Jedlicka

Hans Jedlicka, 94, of Fort Madison, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Montrose Health Center.

Born March 9, 1909, in Swakopmund, South Africa, he was the son of Johan and Marie Schenko Jedlicka. On Nov. 25, 1937, he married Anna M. Janik in Westmont, Ill.

Mr. Jedlicka owned and operated the Engrave Company in Chicago, Ill.

Survivors include his wife of Fort Madison; one daughter, Christine (Philip) Hecht of Fort Madison; and two grandchildren, Alan Hecht of Fort Madison and Audrey Hecht Foster of Bettendorf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, three sisters and one brother.

A private graveside service for Mr. Jedlicka will be at a later date in Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Clarendon Hills, Ill. His body has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory. Contributions can be left at King–Lynk Funeral Home or sent to his daughter, Christine Hecht, at 215 Crescent Lane, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627.

King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison is in charge of arrangements.
