Donna Peebler
Donna Rose Peebler, 74, of West Burlington, died at 10:43 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Sept. 18, 1930, in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Lewis and Bessie Nott Lunbeck. On June 6, 1948, she married Edward A. Peebler in Fairfield. He died April 6, 2002.
Mrs. Peebler was a registered nurse for Dr. Stoikovic in Burlington for seven years. She worked as Health Occupations Education Coordinator for Southeastern Community College, as well as on the legislative committee for continuing education of healthcare providers. She was a nurse until she retired in 1992.
She was a 1948 graduate of Fairfield High School. She earned a nursing degree from Burlington Junior College in 1967 and a bachelor's degree in health education at University of Iowa in 1984. She wrote the fourth paramedic program accepted by the Iowa Board of Medical Examiners. She was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Fairfield, Women of the Moose and Iowa State Federation of Women's Club, where she served as chairman of the first district legislative committee. She also was chairman of the Des Moines County Board of Health. She was Past Matron of E.C. Blackmar Chapter O.E.S. She was on the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter board. She collected wall pockets and black glass. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing cards and bingo.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Peebler of West Burlington and Bill Peebler of Danville; two daughters, Katherine Richenberger of Plano, Texas, and Ruth Asher of West Burlington; 11 grandchildren and 12 great–grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one grandson and one brother.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and an Eastern Star service at 6 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Peebler will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Frances Wyse
Frances Elizabeth Wyse, 90, of Parkview Home in Wayland, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Parkview Home.
Born July 18, 1914, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Edd and Elizabeth Good Wenger. On Nov. 20, 1934, she married Mahlon S. Wyse in Wayland. He died Nov. 25, 1991.
Mrs. Wyse was a homemaker. She also worked at J & L Steakhouse in Mount Pleasant for many years.
She attended Sommers Country School in Washington County. She was a member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church near Wayland in her youth. In 1950, she and her family, as part of a larger group, transferred membership from Sugar Creek Mennonite Church to help start Bethel Mennonite Church. In 1958, she transferred again to start Pleasant View Mennonite Church in Mount Pleasant, where she was a member until her death. She enjoyed singing, sewing, quilting and making hand drawn birthday cards. She had a large garden and cooked, baked and canned a lot.
Survivors include three sons, Gene Wyse, Ronald J. Wyse and Richard Wyse, all of rural Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Sharon Miller of Ambler, Pa., and Rebecca J. Wyse of San Mates, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 19 great–grandchildren; one sister, Margaret of Mount Pleasant; and one brother, Clarence Wenger of Wayland.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service for Mrs. Wyse will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Bob Hartzler officiating. Burial will precede the service at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Mennonite Cemetery
near Wayland.
Memorials have been established for Pleasant View Mennonite Church and Parkview Home.
Mary Copeland
Mary Helen Copeland, 68, of Fairfield, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born June 13, 1936, in Morning Sun, she was the daughter of Charles and Letha McAfee Cary. On June 13, 1957, she married John Copeland in Fairfield.
Mrs. Copeland worked as a clerk at Melissa's Closet for more than 20 years.
She lived most of her life in Jefferson County. She was a 1955 graduate of Packwood High School in Packwood. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Fairfield.
Survivors include three daughters, Julia Ann Williams of McPherson, Kan., and Denise Joy Filson and Linda Sue Munzer, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, John Arthur Copeland Jr. of Oakridge, Tenn., and David Wayne Copeland of Asheville, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Cary Jr. of Batavia, Marvin Cary of southern California, Jim Cary of Burlington and David Cary of Moline, Ill.; four sisters, Zelda Morris of Escondido, Calif., Baja Hogan of Richland, Marlene Snyder of Muscatine and Jean Rae of Tipton, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral for Mrs. Copeland will be at 2 p.m. today at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Revs. Howard Innis and Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery
in Fairfield.
A memorial has been established for First Church of the Nazarene in Fairfield.
Joseph Freshour
Joseph Freshour, 67, of Donnellson Health Center, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Troy Cemetery
in Troy.
There will be no visitation.

Irma McKean
Irma M. "Sunshine" Quayle McKean, 82, of Mount Pleasant died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born June 20, 1923, in Donnellson, she was the daughter of Daniel Henry and Flossie Vanlaningham Frueh. On April 5, 1941, she married Charles H. Quayle in Kahoka, Mo. He died in January 1968. On June 18, 1977, she married James McKean in Trenton. He died in January 2001.
Mrs. McKean was an assembly worker for Sheaffer Pen, the Fairfield Glove Factory, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, O.E. McIntyre (Metro Group), and Vega Industries (Hearth and Home Technologies). She also delivered school buses for Blue Bird Midwest for several years.
She grew up in the Donnellson area and attended Dover School north of Donnellson. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Lion's Club. She spent much of her early adult life in the Fairfield–Glasgow area. She moved to Mount Pleasant in 1968. She enjoyed going to yard sales and often bought items for others in need. She loved to bake and enjoyed sewing and quilting.
Survivors include one son, Herb Quayle of Mount Pleasant; one granddaughter; one grandson; and three great–grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, one son, one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. McKean will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Burial will be at the Clay Grove Cemetery
in rural Donnellson.
Memorials have been established for the Pleasant Manor Care Facility activity fund and the Clay Grove Cemetery.
Janet Kearns
Janet Elaine Kearns, 79, of Burlington, formerly of Dundalk, Md., and Clearwater, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan, 8, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Emil and Effie Distelhorst Horn. On Sept. 26, 1948, she married Richard A. Kearns in Burlington. He died July 9, 2003.
Mrs. Kearns lived in Dundalk for 30 years. While there, she was secretary of volunteers at Fort Howard and a secretary to the teachers at Bear Creek Grade School. She also was a librarian at North Point Junior High and Sparrows Point High School.
She was youth choir director at the Inverness Presbyterian Church for 28 years. She also sang in the church choir. She later moved to Clearwater, where she lived for 20 years. She enjoyed needlework, crossword puzzles and creating greeting cards.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Blades of Queen Anne, Md.; one son, Michael S. Kearns of Canberra, Australia; two grandsons; one brother, Russell Horn of Dallas; two sisters, Alice McClelland of Dundalk and Doris Hill of Lafayette, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews, including Patricia Latty of Burlington.
There will be no visitation.
A private memorial service for Mrs. Kearns will be at a later date.
Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Cancer Society and Inverness Presbyterian Church in Dundalk.
Runge Mortuary in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.
Lorena Knutson
Lorena Kay Knutson, 81, of Burlington Care Center, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Arrangements are pending at Lunning Chapel.
Edith M. Avery
The graveside funeral service and interment for Mrs. Edith Maxine Avery, 78, who died Thursday, October 7, 2004, will be Monday, October 11th, at 10:00 AM in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . The Rev. Trevor Davis will officiate. Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM today in Lunning Chapel. The family will not be present. A memorial has been established.
Calvin B. Swafford
The funeral service for Mr. Calvin Baye Swafford, 86, who died Thursday, October 7, 2004, will be Monday, October 11th, at 1:30 PM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Jack Wolgamuth will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 9:00 AM today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A memorial has been established for the West Burlington Police Department.

Graveside Ash Committal Services for Mrs. Frances Anna Miles, 73, of Springdale, Arkansas, formerly of Burlington, will be held in Jaggar Cemetery
this morning at 10:00 A.M. There will be no formal visitation, as per her wishes, her body has been cremated.

Graveside Ash Committal Services for Mrs. Pauline Grace Leffler, 88, of Burlington who died on Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at her daughter's home will be held in Old Stone Cemetery
at a later date. As per her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial has been established for Old Stone Church and Burlington Public Library.

Funeral Services for Mr. Paul Frances Mower, 90, of Burlington who died on Thursday, October 7, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Monday, October 11, 2004, at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Frank Beaty will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 10:00 A.M. Sunday, with the family receiving friends in Prugh's Chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Frances Miles
Frances Anna Miles, 73, of Springdale, Ark., died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004.
Born April 16, 1931, in Ottumwa, she was the daughter of Charles Ross and Leona Annis Taylor. On Sept. 30, 1978, she married Larry David Miles in Long Beach, Calif. He died Feb. 14, 2000.
Mrs. Miles was a homemaker. She also worked at Selby's for several years.
She was a member of Faith Full Gospel Church in Bethel Heights, Ark.
Survivors include three sons, William LeRoy Helmick of Gallatin, Tenn., Timothy David Helmick of Washington and Raleigh Howard Helmick of Burlington; four daughters, Jean Cheney of Springdale, Ark., Ruby Irene Nichols of Mount Pleasant, Rusty Ann Kob of Burlington and Clara Rosella Helmick of Pine Bluff, Ark.; 40 grandchildren; 40 great–grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, one grandchild and two great–grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated.
The graveside service for Mrs. Miles will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Jaggar Cemetery
in Danville.

Elaine Boyles
The visitation for Mrs. Elaine Helen Grace Boyles, 78, will be after noon Friday, October 8, at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Mrs. Boyles will be cremated after the visitation as per her request. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
