Murl S. "Junior" Bowers

The Funeral Service for Mr. Murl "Junior" Bowers, 76, who died Saturday, October 2, 2004, will be today at 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Beth Briggs will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Henry County Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military Rites. Friends may call after 8:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial h as been established in Junior's memory.

Frances Oliver

Frances A. Oliver, 91, of Aledo, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo.

Born Jan. 17, 1912, in Grover, Colo., she was the daughter of Axel and May Mathews Anderson. On June 5, 1938, she married Lee R. Oliver in Mount Union. He died April 10, 1969.

Mrs. Oliver was a registered nurse, moving to Aledo in 1969, where she worked with the former Oakview Nursing Home, currently the Aledo Health and Rehab Center.

She attended the local Weld County Country School in Colorado and the Center School in Mount Union. She graduated from Mount Union High School and the Burlington Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Aledo and enjoyed crocheting afghans.

Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Ann Dutton of Aledo; three grandchildren; six great–grandchildren; two sisters, Lorena Williams of Columbus Junction and Pauline Willson of Mount Pleasant; and one brother; Paul Anderson of Mount Pleasant.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service Saturday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo.

The funeral for Mrs. Oliver will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fippinger Funeral Home, with Pastor Daren Dietmeier officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

A memorial has been established for Trinity Presbyterian Church in Aledo.

Earl Adair

Earl LaVerne Adair, 87, of Burlington, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at the Burlington Care Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Prugh Funeral Service in Burlington.

James Budd

James R. Budd, 73, of Seminole, Fla., formerly of Fort Madison, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Bay Pines VA Hospital in Florida. Arrangements are pending at Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison.

Lois Simmons

Lois B. Simmons, 91, of Biggsville, Ill., died at 7:12 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Ill.

Born May 25, 1913, in Henderson County, Ill., she was the daughter of John C. and Ella May Watson Welch. On March 23, 1932, she married William H. Simmons in Monmouth. He died Feb. 13, 1980.

Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker.

She was raised and educated in rural Rozetta Township, Ill., area, where she attended local schools. She attended Biggsville High School for two years and Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Ill., for two years. She was a member of Biggsville United Methodist Church. She loved crocheting and making handmade ornaments at Christmas.

Survivors include one son, Donald Simmons of Biggsville; three daughters, Bea L. Day of Stronghurst, Ella M. Milligan of Delavan, lll., and Jane Mahr of Bushnell, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great–grandchildren; three great–great–grandchildren; and one sister, Lucille Zielke of Stronghurst.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be Thursday and Friday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service Friday.

The funeral for Mrs. Simmons will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carol Stufflebeam officiating. Burial will be in Biggsville Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Biggsville United Methodist Church.

Maxine Rupe

Maxine Katherine Rupe, 87, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 12:02 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at her home.

Born Feb. 10, 1916, near Basco, Ill., she was the daughter of James W. and Gladys Clara Martin. On June 3, 1939, she married Alan Bert Buck. He died March 14, 1971. On Feb. 25, 1973, she married William Cecil Rupe in Hamilton.

Mrs. Rupe worked for the Olin Mills Photo Company as a sales representative for many years. She then worked with her husband in the Rupe Jewelry Store in Hamilton until their retirement. She had a love for birds, gardening and African violets. She also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and basketball.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Paula Jean Galwith of Phoenix; one granddaughter, Melissa Kay Foshee of Pittsboro, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Rupe will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Keokuk National Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Mehaffy officiating.

A memorial has been established.

Dorothy Jones

Dorothy Maxine Jones, 59, of rural Morning Sun, died Friday, July 30, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident.

Born July 10, 1945, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Grant Stanford and Opal Pauline Baird Nichols. In February 1980, she married Harold Mervin "Mike" Jones. He died in November 1997.

Mrs. Jones worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, U.S. Gypsum, P.R.P. and D&S Foods in Mediapolis, the Yarmouth Cafe and Experian in Mount Pleasant.

She was a graduate of Morning Sun High School.

Survivors include one son, Brian Nichols of Eden Prairie, Minn.; four daughters, Brenda Johnson of Knoxville, Ill., Cindy Buehl of Morning Sun, and Julia Bonnett and Lisa Hicks, both of California; several grandchildren; five brothers, Elwood Marshall of DeWitt, Paul Marshall of Burlington, Albert Nichols of San Antonio, Ronald Nichols of West Union and David Nichols of Winfield, and two sisters, Marcella Bryant of Morning Sun and Mary McDonald of Cedar Falls.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons and two brothers.

There will be no visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Jones will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis. Cremation will follow and private family interment services will be at a later date at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Media, Ill.

A memorial has been established.

Nancy Zachau

Nancy Zachau, 85, of Donnellson Health Center, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at the center.

Born Aug. 19, 1917, she was the daughter of George and Susie Whitten Zachau.

There are no survivors.

Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson.

The graveside service for Miss Zachau will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Donnellson Evangelical Cemetery.

Dennis Ditto

H. Dennis Ditto, 54, of Joplin, Mo., died at 4:25 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at St. John's Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 13, 1949, in Carthage, Mo., he was the son of Harold R. and Tommie Hughes Ditto. On May 19, 1973, he married Marcia E. Nelson at Everest, Kan.

Mr. Ditto practiced general dentistry in Joplin for a year. He then practiced as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Burlington for five years. He returned to Joplin in 1986 to establish his practice.

He was a 1967 graduate of Joplin High School, 1971 graduate of MSSC and a 1974 graduate of UMKC School of Dentistry. He was a member of First Community Church, former member of Twin Hills Golf and Country Club and served on the board of directors. He was a Fellow of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, past president of the Missouri Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association and the Southwest Missouri Dental Society. An avid hunter, he was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited and a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark Ditto of Joplin and Matthew Ditto at home; his mother of Joplin; and one sister, Donna J. Love of Joplin.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will follow the service Monday at First Community Church.

The funeral for Mr. Ditto will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Community Church, with the Rev. David Smith officiating. A private burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Missouri Southern Foundation to benefit pre–dental students.

Parker Mortuary, 1502 S. Joplin St., P.O. Box 2305, Joplin, Mo. 64803, is in charge of arrangements.

Francene Caryl

Francene "Fran" A. Caryl, 56, of Burlington, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at her home.

Born May 8, 1948, in Ottumwa, she was the daughter of Alfred and Frances Keller Chambers. On May 21, 1966, she married William "Bill" Caryl in Ottumwa.

Mrs. Caryl worked as a production operator at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant/American Ordnance for 15 years.

She was a 1966 graduate of Ottumwa High School. She was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church in Burlington. She enjoyed speed Scrabble, playing cards, bowling and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dan Caryl of Mesa, Ariz., and Shawn Caryl of Wichita, Kan.; one grandson; one brother, Don Chambers of Blakesburg; two sisters, Theanell "Nell" Morrow of New Windsor, Ill., and Lois "Lou" Walker of Westminster, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation. The body has been cremated.

A memorial service for Mrs. Caryl will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in West Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Porter officiating.

Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and PAW Animal Shelter in Fort Madison.

Garry Mehaffy

Mr. Garry Mehaffy, 53, of Burlington, died Saturday, August 14, 2004, at his home. Arrangements are pending at Lunning Chapel.

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Garry Mehaffy, 53, who died Saturday, August 14, 2004 will be Wednesday, August 18th at 5:00 PM in Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be in Long Creek Cemetery , Rural Danville at a later date. Friends may call after 8:00 AM and the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until the time of service on Wednesday. A memorial has been established. Following services Mr. Mehaffy's body will be cremated per his wishes. He enjoyed motocross and quad racing with his son, Scott. He loved his dogs Daisy, Gunner, Sadie and Duke, which were black labs.

Lucile Van Ausdall

Lucile E. Van Ausdall, 87, of Keokuk, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born April 22, 1916, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of John and Hilda Zimmer Johnson. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Lloyd Van Ausdall in Sandusky.

Mrs. Van Ausdall worked in the parts department of Van Ausdall Implement Co. for 30 years.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Barbara Malone of Winston, Mo.; two sons, John Van Ausdall of Keokuk and David Van Ausdall of California; three grandchildren; and seven great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Van Ausdall will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at DeJong's Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Olmsted officiating. Burial will be in Sandusky Cemetery in rural Keokuk.

Memorials have been established for Trinity United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer's Association.
