Karen Savage

Karen "Suzy" Burchett Savage, 50, of Nauvoo, Ill., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Arrangements are pending at Lamporte Funeral Home in Nauvoo.

Harold and Emily Perkins

The graveside memorial funeral service and inurnment for Harold and Emily Perkins will be Tuesday, August 19th at 11:00 AM in Wapello Cemetery . The Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf will officiate. Mr. and Mrs. Perkins were long time Burlington residents. Mrs. Perkins died November 20, 2002 and Mr. Perkins died January 22, 2003.

John Klein

John M. Klein, 82, of Burlington, died at 1:14 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Arrangements are pending at Lunning Chapel.

Christopher Allen Simmons

The Memorial Service for Mr. Christopher Allen Simmons, 33, will be 1:00 PM this afternoon at River of Life Ministries in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Steve Irwin officiating. Mr. Simmons has been cremated, as per his request. A memorial has been established.

Mildred V. Richcreek

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Mildred V. Richcreek, 88, will be 7:00 PM this evening in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Dennis G. Tevis officiating. Visitation will be Monday, August 23, at the Hillside West Funeral Home in Wichita from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Another funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 24 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Wichita with Pastor Ted Swope officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita. A memorial has been established to the Bethel Baptist Church.

Alvin O. Wiley Jr.

The Memorial Service for Mr. Alvin Owen Wiley Jr., age 81, who passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002, will be 2:00 PM Sunday inthe Chapel of the Hass Funeral Home, with the Reverend Vicki J. Englemann officiating. As per his request, his body has been cremated. There will be no visitation.

Mildred Bean

Mildred "Nikkie" W. Bean, 83, of Fort Madison, died at 9:58 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at Fort Madison Health Center.

Born Jan. 16, 1921, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Frank and Minnie Beelman Winke. On June 17, 1942, she married Philip James Bean in Fort Madison. He died Dec. 1, 1991.

Mrs. Bean retired from the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Altar and Rosary Society and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include two sons, James Bean of Fort Madison and Michael Bean of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Winke of Fort Madison.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

There will be no visitation. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Hospital Department of Anatomy in Iowa City.

The funeral for Mrs. Bean will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Tim Sheedy officiating.

A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association.

Jennie Masengarb

Jennie Elizabeth Masengarb, 95, of Burlington, died at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center.

Born Dec. 20, 1908, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Thomas Fredrick and Dora Ditto Chrissinger. On June 2, 1940, she married Stewart Gilbert Masengarb in Burlington. He died Sept. 28, 1965.

Mrs. Masengarb worked as a registered nurse for Burlington Hospital, and after her husband's death, she returned to work at Klein Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1975.

She was a 1928 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1931 graduate of Burlington Protestant Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, King's Daughters, Jane A. Delano Association and was a volunteer at Phelps House.

Survivors include one son, James S. Masengarb of Burlington; four granddaughters; three great–grandchildren; one brother, Fredrick Chrissinger of Albuquerque; two sisters, Mildred Linder and Eva Kepper, both of Winfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Masengarb will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Don Rehling officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the King's Daughters Home.

Eugene Siefken

Eugene F. Siefken, 58, of Burlington, died at 7:59 a.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Hass Funeral Home.

Kit Sieh

Kit Sieh, 69, of Winfield, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Visitation will begin after noon on Tuesday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Sieh will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Honts Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, Ill.

Herbert Curran

Herbert Ray "Herb" Curran, 71, of West Burlington, formerly of Yarmouth, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, at his home.

Born July 25, 1935, in Morning Sun, he was the son of Dwight A. and Martha Elizabeth Campbell Curran. On July 28, 1984, he married Connie Kathryn Kennedy in Burlington. She died Dec. 21, 2006.

Mr. Curran was a truck driver for Arledge, Churchill and ABF Cos. He was a 1951 graduate of Yarmouth High School. He was a Navy Seabee veteran serving as CNN from 1955 until 1957. He was Protestant. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and traveling.

Survivors include one daughter, Leslee Summers of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; four sons, Dwight Curran of Sugar Grove, Ill., Jeffrey Curran of Napa, Idaho, Kelly Graybill of Oglesby, Ill., and Chris Graybill of Hawk Springs, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren; and one great–grandson.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, one stepdaughter, his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The graveside service for Mr. Curran will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Elmwood Cemetery , Morning Sun, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will follow.

A memorial has been established.

Everett Smith

Everett Smith, 93, of Keokuk, died Tuesday morning, April 26, 2005, at his home. Arrangements are pending at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk.

Della Turner

Della Mae Stuart Turner, 81, of Burlington died Thursday, April 22, 2005, at Genesis East in Davenport.

Born May 19, 1923, in Bachelor, Mo., she was the daughter of George V. and Maudie Leona Mae Martin Cary. On Jan. 19, 1948, she married Arthur Tate Stuart in Mexico, Mo. He died May 30, 1976. On Nov. 11, 1977, she married William Claude Turner in Palmyra, Mo. He died Jan. 19, 1984.

Mrs. Turner was a homemaker. She also worked in production at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and at Sylvania.

She was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed bingo at Autumn Heights, liked to watch movies and took many pictures.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Stuart of Mexico, Mo., and Connie Stuart of Burlington; one son, Larry Stuart of Manteca, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight great–grandchildren; one brother, George Vinson Cary Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Family visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Monday.

There will be no funeral service for Mrs. Turner. Private family burial will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established.

Frank Hills Sr.

Frank Hills Sr., 84, of Donnellson died at 4:31 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at his home.

Born June 22, 1920, at Trenton, he was the son of Robert and Meda Marie Luellen Hills. He married Marjorie Ellen Bremer on April 6, 1946, in Waukesha, Wis. She died April 22, 2001.

Mr. Hills was an Army veteran of World War II. He owned and operated Frank's Superette in West Burlington and was a dietitian at the Donnellson Health Care Center.

He was a member of the Donnellson American Legion, a volunteer for Lee County Hospice, and served on the Central Lee School Board. He enjoyed woodworking, going to craft shows, golfing, puzzles and feeding finches and robins. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include three daughters, Sue Willers of Eldridge, Becky Hawkins of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Judy Hills of Argyle; one son, Frank Hills Jr. of Burlington; one sister, Grace Alderson of Anaheim, Calif.; two stepsisters, Margaret Hills and Betty Breazerle, both of Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren; five great–grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Gladys Hills, three sisters, one brother and one stepbrother.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at Hofbauer–Schmitz–Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

The memorial service for Mr. Hills will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Simpson officiating.

A memorial has been established for Lee County Hospice.

Helen Reinecke

A graveside memorial service for Helen L. Reinecke of Arvada, Colo., who died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Colorado, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Burlington Memorial Park.

J.T. Settles

J.T. Settles, 85, of Winfield, died Sunday evening, April 6, 2003, at his residence.

Born Aug. 26, 1917, at Colorado Springs, Col., he was the son of Pagie and Katie Bowman Settles. On Jan. 12, 1944, he married Mary Taylor at Car–thage, Ill. She died Oct. 3, 1989.

Mr. Settles was a farmer and purebred Hampshire hog breeder in LaHarpe, Ill., and Winfield.

He was a graduate of Good Hope High School in Good Hope, Ill. He was a former board member of the Winfield Co–op. He was a member of Yarmouth First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Settles of Winfield and Steve Settles of Burlington; four grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; five sisters, Maxine Hilton of LaHarpe, Evelyn Bunt of Stronghurst, Ill., Barbara Combs of Sciota, Ill.; Joanne Arnold of Colchester, Ill., and Janice Shriver of Galesburg, Ill.; and two brothers, Howard Settles of Macomb, Ill., and Dale Settles of Blandinsville, Ill.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Settles will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Yar–mouth First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brian Betts officiating. Burial will be in Winfield–Scott Township Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Yarmouth First Baptist Church and Winfield–Mount Union Big Red Pride.
