Jeremy Michael Barrett, 24, of Pearl City, Hawaii, formerly of Winfield, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Waialu, Hawaii. Arrangements are pending at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield.
Jerry Ross
Jerry Alan Ross, 66, of Carthage died at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at his son's home in West Salem, Wis.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
Mary Law
Mary "Joann" Law, 70, of Keokuk died at 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 22, 1934, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Raymond and Rose Rauenbuehler Boyle. On Sept. 14, 1957, she married James "Mac" Law in Fort Madison.
Mrs. Law worked in Lee County as first deputy auditor, retiring in 1999.
She was a member of All Saints Church and enjoyed following her grandchildren's sporting events and competitions.
Survivors include one son, David Law of Yokosuka, Japan; four daughters, Julia Law of Vernon Hills, Ill., Mary Jo Uhlmeyer of Keokuk, Susan Francik of Glendale Heights, Ill. and Sharon Law of Lindenhurst, Ill; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Greaves Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Christian vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greaves Mortuary.
The memorial mass for Mrs. Law will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk, with the Rev. Martin Goetz officiating. Burial will be National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Keokuk High School Boys and Girls Sports Boosters or St. Vincents Preschool.
Iva Kokjohn
Iva Lucille Kokjohn, 90, of Fort Madison, died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born Nov. 14, 1913, in Montrose, she was the daughter of William A. and Birdie V. Glasford Cooper. On June 23, 1934, she married Frank Theodore Kokjohn Sr. in Fort Madison. He died Feb. 23, 1979.
Mrs. Kokjohn was a homemaker.
She was a member of Ss. Mary & Joseph Church. She enjoyed ceramics and playing games.
Survivors include two sons, Richard P. Kokjohn and Robert A. Kokjohn, both of Fort Madison; nine grandchildren; 19 great–grandchildren; three great–great–grandchildren; one brother, Burton Cooper of Florida; one sister, Dorothy Kirchner of Hamilton, Ill., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, five brothers, six sisters and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with a wake service at 6:30 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Kokjohn will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ss. Mary & Joseph Church, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
William H. Bailey
The funeral service for Mr. William H. Bailey, 64, who died Tuesday, February 1, 2005, will be Saturday, February 5th, at 10:30 AM in First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:30 PM. A memorial has been established for First Presbyterian Church.
KIMBERLY MORRIS
Memorial Services for Kimberly Lynn McGraw Morris, 36, of Burlington, will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service. Chaplain Randy Gearhart will officiate. A Memorial Has Been Established in Memory of Kimberly Lynn McGraw Morris.
Nunzio Columbus
Nunzio Columbus, 95, of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of the Wyaconda, Mo., area, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Trisun Nursing Home in Corpus Christi.
Born Aug. 8, 1909, in Long Island City, N.Y., he was the son of Thomas and Domenica Randazzo Columbus. On Oct. 31, 1948, he married Ellen Isabelle Rayburn in Kahoka, Mo. She died Nov. 18, 1971.
Mr. Columbus worked as a plumber in Babylon, Long Island City, retiring in 1962. He then moved to Wyaconda, where he farmed.
He enjoyed gardening and caring for his flower beds. He also loved fishing.
Survivors include seven daughters, Mary Chevalier of Monticello, N.Y., Ann Lewis of Florida, Lena C. Nemec of Corpus Christi, Catherine Lovette of Fort Madison, Isabelle Stevenson of Picayune, Miss., and Janet Mae Alva Columbus of Lake Charles, Ga.; and nine sons, James Columbus of Palm Coast, Fla., Joseph Columbus of Deer Park, Long Island, N.Y., Theodore Columbus of Florida, Thomas Columbus of Sebastian, Fla., Albert Columbus of Keokuk, John Columbus of Middle Island, N.Y., Peter Columbus of Margate, Fla., Joseph Columbus of Texas and Samuel Columbus of Naples, Ill.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter and one son.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The graveside service for Mr. Columbus will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Liberty Cemetery
in rural Williamstown, Mo.
Virginia Distelhorst
Virginia Louise Distelhorst, 82, of Burlington, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, in her home.
Born Feb. 22, 1922, in Bur–lington, she was the daughter of George Edward Hanrahan and Anna Margaret Mack. On Nov. 1, 1944, she married Richard Davis Distelhorst in West Burlington.
Mrs. Distelhorst was a housewife.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1940 and was a member of Sts. John and Paul Catholic Church. She was a member of Questers Club and Des Moines County Historical Society. She enjoyed collecting antiques and collectibles and going to local area auctions. She volunteered in the gift shop of Great River Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Daniel Distelhorst of Spokane, Wash.; one daughter, Rita Mowen of Boone; four grandchildren; and five great–grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one son.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Distelhorst will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
Michelle Oswalt
Michelle K. "Shelly" Tansey Oswalt, 38, of Grenada, Miss., died of complications from surgery on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Miss.
Mrs. Oswalt was a preschool teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Dewayne Oswalt; one daughter, Shelby Oswalt of Grenada; one son, Michael Oswalt of Grenada; her mother of Winona, Miss.; and her grandfather, Gerald Lowe of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.
The funeral for Mrs. Oswalt will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Winona, with the Revs. Harold Richardson and Eugene Banes officiating. Burial will be in Winona Garden of Memory.
Robert James Smith
The funeral service for Mr. Robert "Bob" James Smith, 81, who died Saturday, December 6, 2003, will be today at 10:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Ron Jewett will officiate. Interment will be at 3:00 PM in Palo Cemetery , Palo, Iowa. Shellsburg American Legion Post 166 will conduct military rites. Friends may call after 8:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial has been established.

The funeral service for Mrs. Beulah Brown Augsburger Rewerts, 93, who died Sunday, December 7, 2003, will be today at 1:30 PM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Ron Kelway will officiate. Esther Hardy
The graveside service for Esther Hardy of Batavia, who died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wapello Cemetery , with the Rev. Marvin L. Hardy officiating.
Frederic Forward
Frederic Dale Forward, 88, of Rock Island, Ill., died Sunday Dec. 7, 2003, at his home.
Born Aug. 7, 1915, in Gladstone, Ill., he was the son of Isaac and Jennie Johnson Forward.
Mr. Forward worked on a dredge boat for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. After discharge from the Army, he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal. He was instrumental in setting up the first computer system at the Arsenal and retired after 43 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran with the rank of lieutenant. He attended school in Gladstone and graduated as valedictorian of Moline High School in Moline, Ill. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and traveled extensively.
Survivors include one niece, Donna Zurmuehlen of Gladstone; one special niece–in–law, Lucille Forward of Rock Island; two great–nieces, great–great nieces, one nephew and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
There will be no visitation.
A graveside service for Mr. Forward will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in National Cemetery
on Arsenal Island. Those who plan to attend should meet at 1 p.m. at Wheelan Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established for the Fort Armstrong Senior Residence in Rock Island.
Dorothy Layfield
Dorothy Irene Layfield, 80, of Hamilton, Ill., formerly of Pittsfield, Mass., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her home.
Born Aug. 15, 1924, in Pittsfield, she was the daughter of Francis J. and Bessie Griswold Scully.
Ms. Layfield worked in admitting/billing at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield for 25 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Pittsfield and attended Berkshire Business College. She was a World War II Women's Army Corps veteran, serving two years, and a Korean War Women's Air Force veteran, serving three years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pittsfield and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chicago. She enjoyed knitting.
Survivors include one son, James R. Layfield of Hamilton; two daughters, Cheryl Carpenter of Clinton, Md., and Michelle Layfield of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; three grandchildren; and one brother, John "Jack" Scully of St. Petersburg, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, one sister and one brother.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
The memorial Mass for Ms. Layfield will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Menner officiating.
Visitation, funeral Mass and burial will be in Pittsfield through Devanny–Condron Funeral Home.
