Donald Wasson

Donald Milton Wasson, 79, of New London died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at his home.

Born Dec. 28, 1925, in Burlington, he was the son of Dewey and Katherine Leffler Wasson. On Nov. 6, 1952, he married Joanne Duebner in Burlington. They later divorced.

Mr. Wasson was an inspector at Mason–Hanger in West Burlington for 29 years, retiring in 1988.

He attended Burlington and New London schools. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a World War II Army veteran and received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of New London Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7641, where he was past commander. He liked to hunt and fish.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Wasson and Lori Poe, both of New London; two grandsons; and two brothers, Charles Wasson of Burlington and Dan Wasson of West Memphis, Ark.

He was preceded in death by one son, his parents and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of service Tuesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. The body has been cremated.

The memorial service for Mr. Wasson will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Rod Cooper officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by Henry County Honor Guard will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

A memorial has been established.

Estalee Saunders

Estalee M. Saunders, 89, of Kirkwood, Ill., died at 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at her home.

Born Dec. 25, 1912, in Little York, Ill., she was the daughter of Hale and Mae Evans Scalf. She married William White Saunders. He died in December 1954.

She was raised and educated in Kirkwood, Ill. She worked as a nurses aid at Monmouth Hospital. She later worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for nine years, retiring in 1971.

She enjoyed reading, flowers and gardening. She was a sports fan and especially enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals.

She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood.

Survivors include one son, William Robert Saunders of Florida; two daughters, Donna Williams of Moline, Ill., and Gloria Girtman of Burlington; four grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; one brother, Fred Scalf of Knoxville, Ill.; one sister, Nellie Harvey of Geneseo, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, four brothers and one sister.

Friends may call on Wednesday at the Hoover–Hall Memorial Chapel in Monmouth, Ill., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Saunders will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hoover–Hall Memorial Chapel with the Rev. William Shumate officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood.

Mary L. Malone

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Mary L. Malone, 74, will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with the Reverend Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . Visitation will begin after noon today at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established.

Leota Antoine

Leota Pauline Antoine, 96, of Hamilton, Ill., died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Montebello Health Care Center in Hamilton.

Born Dec. 16, 1908, in Basco, Ill., she was the daughter of Harry and Hattie Gavillet Launer. On Aug. 4, 1930, she married John Claude Antoine. He died Oct. 10, 1974.

Mrs. Antoine was a member of the Opportunity Circle and Home Extension and was active in community programs. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing and baking.

Survivors include four sisters, Mabel Heagy of Elvaston, Ill., Mardell Reed of Basco, and Jean Berg and Marilyn Cameron, both of Carthage; one brother, Leo Launer of Warsaw, Ill.; four grandchildren; and four great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one sister and five brothers.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton.

The funeral for Mr. Antoine will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lamporte Funeral Home, with Pastor Mary Gates officiating. Burial will be in West Cemetery in Basco.

Memorials have been established for Basco Methodist Church and the Alzheimer's Association.

Glen Hoelscher

Glen R. Hoelscher, 77, of Fairdealing, Mo., formerly of Carthage, Ill., died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Visitation with the family will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.

A memorial has been established.

Alan Thomas Green

The memorial funeral service for Mr. Alan Thomas Green, 43, who died on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, will be today at 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dean Moberg will officiate. Friends may call after 8:00 AM and the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. A memorial has been established in Alan's memory.

Donald F. Gerling

The funeral service for Mr. Donald Frank Gerling, 83, who died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, will be Friday, March 25th, at 10:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Beth Briggs will officiate. Interment will be in Long Creek Cemetery , rural Danville, Friends may call after noon on Thursday, March 24th, in Lunning Chapel and the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Memorials have been established for the Mediapolis Ambulance and the Mediapolis Education Foundation.

John Weyrick

John Fred Weyrick, 84, of Danville, died at 8:17 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at New London Nursing & Rehab Center.

Born April 10, 1919, in rural Huron Township, he was the son of Fred John and Frances W. Steffner Weyrick. On May 13, 1939, he married Edith Tiemann in Burlington.

Mr. Weyrick worked in munitions at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 12 years. He also was a lifelong farmer.

He was a member of Blackhawk Auto Restorers Club and Southeast Iowa Gas Engine Club for many years. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sharon Fangman of Hermitage, Mo.; one son, Richard F. Weyrick of Danville; eight grandchildren; seven great–grandchildren; one sister, Delores Titus of Burlington; many nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. to day at Prugh's Chapel. There will be no family visitation.

The graveside committal service for Mr. Weyrick will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery , with Pastor Charles Stevens officiating.

A memorial has been established for Riverside Baptist Church.

Gladys C. Baldridge

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Gladys C. Baldridge, 89, will be 1:30 PM Thursday, April 7, in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Visitation will begin at noon today at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM Thursday. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Jean Lancaster

Margaret Jean Ita Lancaster, 87, of Dover, N.H., died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Wentworth–Douglass Hospital in Dover.

Born June 13, 1917, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Conrad A. and Mary Gertrude Collier Ita. On Nov. 3, 1940, she married Richard Wayne Suesens in Burlington. He died in the Battle of Midway in 1942. On March 9, 1946, she married Joseph A. Lancaster in Rochester, N.Y.

Mrs. Lancaster was a 1934 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1936 graduate of Burlington Junior College.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Michael Lancaster of Dover; one sister, Mary Pease of Burlington; one brother, James C. Ita of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial was established for a charity of choice.

The Cremation Society of New Hampshire was in charge of arrangements.

John Lane

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. John Thomas Lane, 61, will be 1:00 PM this afternoon in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with full military honors rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard, VFW Posts 10102, 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League, and AMVETS Post 29. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society or the Great River Hospice.

Dorothy Hevel

Dorothy S. Hevel, 62, of Keokuk died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.

Born Nov. 14, 1942, in Hannibal, Mo., she was the daughter of Harold and Emma Disselhorst Stuhlman. On Aug. 18, 1962, she married Donald R. Hevel Jr. in Palmyra, Mo. He died Jan. 16, 2003.

Mrs. Hevel was membership secretary for Hoerner YMCA in Keokuk since 1978.

She was a 1960 graduate of Palmyra High School. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra.

Survivors include one son, Donald R. Hevel III of Wentzville, Mo.; one daughter, Dawn M. Kearney of Pleasant Plains, Ill.; four grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Peters of Palmyra; and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Hevel will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra.

Memorials have been established for Hoerner YMCA and Palmyra Bicentennial Library.

Helen McAvoy

Helen G. McAvoy, 81, of Columbus, Ind., formerly of Burlington, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born Nov. 4, 1923, in Davis County, she was the daughter of Carl and Hersel Van Horn Games. On June 2, 1946, she married Harold McAvoy in Burlington. He died June 13, 1967.

Mrs. McAvoy was a licensed lay minister for 17 years and served with First Christian Church in Burlington and later with Park Avenue Christian Church in Des Moines.

She was a member of North Christian Church, Senior Center, New Comers and the Red Hat Society in Columbus. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader.

Survivors include one son, Paul McAvoy of Columbus; one daughter, Ann Elise Heller of Troy, Mich.; three granddaughters; two brothers, Rex Games of Bloomfield and Keith Games of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; and one sister, Christine Richardson of Bloomfield.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and one infant sister.

A graveside service for Mrs. McAvoy will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in Bloomfield IOOF Cemetery .

Memorials have been established for North Christian Church in Columbus and Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Ky.
