James McPartland

James Joseph McPartland, 68, of Boulder, Colo., formerly of Burlington, died at 10:21 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, at the Balfour Retirement Center in Louisville, Colo.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home.

Jerry Alter

Jerry Duane Alter, 61, of Mount Pleasant, died following a short illness Monday, May 31, 2004, at Arbor Court.

Born Aug. 15, 1942, west of Trenton, he was the son of Henry N. and Gladys L. Smith Alter.

Mr. Smith drove trucks for Global Van Lines and Shelman Trucking for several years.

He was raised in the Trenton and Mount Pleasant areas and attended Mount Pleasant High School. He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1960 to 1964, and was a rated boiler tender. He was stationed on the USS Frank Knox DD–742, USS Columbus CG–12 and the USS Braine DD–630. He enjoyed reading periodicals, studying geography, collecting toy trucks and visiting the library.

Survivors include two sisters, Darlene Mehaffy and Beverly Mullin, both of Mount Pleasant; two nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.

A memorial service with military honors for Mr. Alter will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Beatty Funeral Home, with Pastor Elaine Vass officiating. Private family burial will be prior to the memorial service in Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the family.

Frances Arledge

Frances C. "Fran" Arledge, 85, of Burlington, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, in Burlington.

Born Sept. 7, 1917, in Bagley, Iowa, she was the daughter of Albert and Etta A. Vaux Moorman. On May 6, 1939, she married Arnold G. Arledge in Burlington.

Mrs. Arledge was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Questers and Burlington Women's Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy Jacobs of Burlington; two sons, John Arledge of Burlington and James Arledge of Granbury, Texas; six grandchildren, Mark Fleming, Jeff Jacobs, Ken Arledge, Jerrod Arledge, Jennifer Arledge, and Ben Arledge, and three great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, JoAnn Arias, her parents, and two brothers, Max Moorman and Orlo Moorman.

Visitation will be between 7 and 8:30 p.m. this evening in the chapel at Prugh Funeral Service.

The funeral for Mrs. Arledge will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Methodist Church with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the YM–YWCA Youth Scholarship Fund.

Kenneth Johnson

Kenneth A. Johnson, 92, of Palmyra, Mo., died at 9 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Born Dec. 12, 1913, in Davenport, he was the son of Frank and Alma Dressel Johnson. On April 17, 1938, he married Ruth Fors in Moline, Ill.

Mr. Johnson was a manufacturer's representative for Miller & Co. in Chicago for many years.

He graduated high school in Davenport and was a graduate of Augustana Lutheran College in Rock Island, Ill. He was a member of the Shriners, the Hannibal Country Club and the Burlington Golf Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working on his yard. He was a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Taylor, Mo., and a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Gail Sharkey of Taylor; one son, David Johnson of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great–granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Taylor.

The funeral for Mr. Johnson will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Mann officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Taylor. Memorials have been established for the Palmyra Bicentennial Library and the Great River Jazz Society in Hannibal, Mo.

Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.

Norma Inghram

Norma Woods Inghram, 74, of Roseville, Ill., died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville, Ill.

Born Nov. 22, 1929, in Macomb Ill., she was the daughter of Guy John and Gladys Jones Woods.

Ms. Inghram worked at Woody's Lounge for many years and Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison until retiring in 1990.

Survivors include one son, Gary Wunnenberg of Monmouth Ill.; one daughter, Betty Jo Dakin of Roseville; five grandchildren; three great–grandchildren; one brother, Donald Woods of Burlington; and one sister, Mary Lillian Greer of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter.

There will be no visitation.

The funeral for Ms. Inghram will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established for LaMoine Christian Nursing Home.

Corman Memorial Home in Roseville is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Pool

Harold E. Pool. 91, of Blandinsville, Ill., died at 1:16 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill.

Born Feb. 25, 1913, in Hancock County, he was the son of Matthew and Pauline Krieg Pool. On April 25, 1937, he married Maxine Alton in Blandinsville. She died Sept. 4, 1998.

Mr. Pool farmed near Blandinsville. He also worked as a carpenter and electrician.

He grew up in Woolstock, moving to the Blandinsville area after high school. He was a member of Blandinsville Senior Citizens, the Rolling Rivers Camping Club and Blandinsville Christian Church, where he served as deacon.

Survivors include one daughter, Peg Calvert of Blandinsville; five grandchildren; and five great–grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one great–granddaughter.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, Ill. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mr. Pool will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, with Eric Gerdts officiating. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Blandinsville Christian Church and Blandinsville Rescue Squad.

Steven Patton

Steven William Patton, 49, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Burlington, died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Terrace Gardens, Colorado Springs.

Born Aug. 13, 1953 in Burlington, he was the son of Dennis and Viola Dodge Patton.

Mr. Patton was retired from the military security. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Carrie Patton of Aurora, Colo.; one son, Joseph Patton of Big Springs, Texas; three sisters, Sandra Hardy of Colorado Springs and Bonnie Hartman and Marjorie Bell, both of Burlington; three brothers, Jack Patton, Robert Patton and Jerry Patton, all of Burlington; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Visitation will be Monday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Patton will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel with the Rev. David Nash officiating. Burial will be in Dolby Cemetery , near Mediapolis with full military rites conducted by VFW Post 10102 & 9162, American Legion Post 52 and the Marine Corps League.

A memorial has been established for the Multiple Sclerosis Association.

Austin James Miller

The Graveside Committal Service and Interment for Austin James Miller, stillborn son of Krystal Dawn Dickenson and Joseph Theodore Miller, will be 1:00 PM this afternoon at the Aspen Grove Cemetery with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating.

Margaret Rice

Margaret K. Rice, 91, formerly of rural LaHarpe, Ill., died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at the Walter and Margaret Whitson home near Niota, Ill., where she lived for the past three months.

Born May 25, 1911, she was the daughter of Adam W. and Olive Negley Kern. On June 9, 1963, she married Jesse S. Barker. He died Jan. 20, 1966. On Nov. 9, 1969, she married Earl B. Rice.

Mrs. Rice worked for Bentico Grocery Store in LaHarpe, LaHarpe Clothing Store and Dr. Jesse Barker.

She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of LaHarpe Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband of Colusa, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Bette June Mapes of LaHarpe and Wanda Kurrle of Wever; four stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat–grandchildren; one stepgreat–great–granddaughter; one sister, Bertha Jacob of Stronghurst, Ill.; two brothers, Gale Kern of LaHarpe and Glen Kern of Clarksville, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Rice will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, with Kevin Petermen officiating. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery in Durham, Ill.

A memorial has been established for LaHarpe Christian Church.

Jennifer Simmons

Jennifer Lynn Simmons, 44, of Fairfield, died of ovarian cancer at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at her home.

Born Sept. 8, 1958, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Tom and Murrel Hanna Morgan. On Nov. 12, 1983, she married Brian Simmons in the Antioch area.

Mrs. Simmons worked in the accounts payable department for Books Are Fun Ltd. of Fairfield for 10 years.

She previously lived in Mount Pleasant and Burlington. She was a former Pleasant Plain Little League board member. She was a graduate of IHCC and was attending Iowa Wesleyan College.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, James Simmons and Jeremy Simmons, both of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Shelly Decker of Wayland; one granddaughter; her mother of Burlington; three sisters, Josie Morgan of Branson, Mo., Julie Rooney of Burlington and Jackie Olsen of Bettendorf; three brothers, Tommy Morgan of Mount Pleasant, J.P. Morgan of Burlington and Chuck Morgan of Tulare, S.D.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, one brother and one niece.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Simmons will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Raymond Funeral Home, with Pastors Barney Lawler and John Benedict officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery northeast of Fairfield.

A memorial has been established for her children.
