Paul Gonzalez

In loving memory of the world's greatest father, husband, uncle, grandfather.

Paul Gonzalez, 49, of Burlington died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Novem–ber 28, 2004, at Great River Medical Center.

Born June 13, 1955, in Browns–ville, Texas. His family moved to Burlington, Iowa, in 1966. He was the son of Alejandro and Augus–tina Mendoza Gonzalez.

Mr. Gonzalez worked 20 years as an evaluator inspector for Southeastern Community Action Weatherization Program. He then worked at the Drake Restaurant as a janitor for two years.

He enjoyed drawing, traveling, wood crafts, shooting pool, listening to the blues, being called el chato and pinching everyone's cheeks.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Bedenbender Gonzalez; five brothers, Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. of Oklahoma, Esteban Gonzalez of Burlington, Juanantonio Gon–zalez of Burlington, Castulo Gon–zalez of Burlington, David Gon–zalez of Missouri; and has four sisters, Rosa Hernandez of Burling–ton, Maria Gonzalez of Burlington, Jolanda Gonzalez of Ohio and Juanita Roacha of Texas.

He has three children, Paul Jaimes Gonzalez of Oklahoma, Lee Keever of Burlington, Jeff Birdsell of Illinois.

He has 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and grandparents.

Mr. Gonzalez has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 3, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Prugh's Chapel. Father Jerry Stouvenel will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A memorial has been established in memory of Paul Gonzalez. Burial will be in Brownsville, Texas, at a later date.

He will always be our sunshine.

James Ringling

James Conway Ringling, 78, of Fort Madison, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Fort Madison Health Center.

Born Dec. 31, 1925, in Munich, Germany, he was the son of Robert Edward and Virginia Sullivan Ringling. He married Aileen Mustell in Chicago.

Mr. Ringling worked for Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. He began as a ticket office clerk and by 1963, when he retired, he was vice president, scheduling dates and seasons for the show.

He was the third generation of the Ringling Brother Circus family, the grandson of Charles Edward Ringling, one of the founding brothers. He graduated from Loyola University at Chicago with a bachelor's of science degree in chemistry. He was a member of Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles Ringling of Bradenton, Fla., and Christopher Ringling of Miliani, Hawaii; one daughter, Lucretia Ringling of Texas; four grandchildren; one great–grandchild; one brother, Charles Ringling of Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison, with family present from 7 to 8 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Ringling will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. A private burial will be at the family mausoleum out of state.

A memorial has been established. Contributions may be left at Barr Memorial Chapel.

Willaim Broeker

William O. Broeker, 62, of Leavenworth, Kan., died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, of brain cancer.

He was the son of Orville and Grace Broeker of Morning Sun. He married Jan Broeker.

He was a graduate of the Cliff Man School of Floral Design and had been the Unit President of Teleflora and FTD. Mr. Broeker owned and operated Leavenworth Floral, Lansing Floral and Bonner Springs Floral.

He served as a member of the Board of Directors for Mid–American Bank. He was a member of the Leavenworth Downtown Association Board, the Leavenworth/Lansing Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and Eagles and served on the State of Kansas Vocational Education Advisory Committee for eight years.

He was a U. S. Army veteran.

He loved to play golf, go boating and follow the college and professional sports.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Bill Broeker Jr.; one daughter, Anna Buffo; two step–daughters, Abigail Howe, Rebecca Howe Fruechting; his parents; one sister, Sharlene Broeker; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Visitation will be 6 and 8 p.m. Monday at the Belden–Sexton–Sumpter Funeral Chapels, 500 Oak St., Leavenworth.

The funeral for Mr. Broeker will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Leavenworth, 340 N. 13th St.

A memorial has been established for the Leavenworth Hospice in care of the funeral chapel.

OPAL KUNTZ

Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Kuntz, 90, of Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday, December 9, 2004, at 9:30 A.M. Rev. Dr. Frank Beaty will officiate. Interment will follow in Girdner Cemetery in Lineville, Missouri, at 3:00 P.M. Friends may call after 8:00 A.M. today, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. A memorial has been established in memory of Mrs. Opal Kuntz.

KATHLEEN "KAYTEE" DAVIS

Memorial services for Mrs. Kathleen "Kaytee" Davis, 75, of Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday, December 9, 2004, at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Carl Engstrom will officiate. Interment will be held in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel this evening between the hours of 7:00 and 8:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in memory of Kaytee Davis. As per her wishes, the body has been cremated.

ARVID V. EGERT

Graveside Committal Services for Mr. Arvid V. Egert, 89, of Bur–lington who died on Monday, December 6, 2004, at Great River Medical Center will be held in the Rock Island National Cemetery on Friday, December 10, 2004, at 1:30 P.M. Rev. Tyrone Henderson will officiate. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A memorial has been established for the Burlington Public Library. Friends may call after 8:00 A.M. on Thursday.

Ethelbert Hoppe

Ethelbert Mix Hoppe, 89, of El Centro, Calif., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in El Centro.

Born Dec. 28, 1914, in Danville, she was the daughter of Bert and Anna Gugeler Mix. On Sept. 14, 1940, she married Kenneth H. Hoppe in Danville. He died July 18, 1976.

Mrs. Hoppe worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. in Kansas City, Chicago and Brooklyn, Mass.

She attended Wesleyan College. While in California, she was active in PTA, serving two terms as president. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a life member of the Women's Ten Thousand Club. She was a Soroptimist.

Survivors include one son, Bert Raymond Hoppe of El Centro; one sister, Ada Waters of Danville; one niece; and one nephew.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

A graveside service for Mrs. Hoppe will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Nellie Boese

Nellie O. Boese, 86, of Wayland, formerly of Lockridge, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at her home. Arrangements are pending at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.

Mallie Leonard

Mallie Mae Shoemaker Leonard, 86, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died of natural causes Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Dec. 15, 1916, in Keytesville, Mo., she was the daughter of Grover Jr. and Sarah Carter Shoemaker. On July 27, 1936, she married Gerald Leonard in Salisbury, Mo. He died in 1979.

Mrs. Leonard was a teacher in the Hancock County School System in Illinois for more than 30 years. After retiring, she was a substitute teacher in Izard County, Ark.

She was a member of Red Star Baptist Church. Before moving to Cape Girardeau, she was a member of Ferris Christian Church in Ferris, Ill., where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She later attended the Baptist Church in Zion, Ark. She was past officer of the Extension Homemakers Club of Franklin, Ark., and worked with Red Star Baptist Church organizations. She was known for her beautiful flowers and handmade quilts.

Survivors include one son, Gerald "Ed" Leonard of Zion, Ark.; three daughters, Mary E. Starr of Branson, Mo., Freda M. Hogan of Cape Girardeau and Karen J. Mathena of Springville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great–grandchildren; four stepgreat–grandchildren; and three great–great–grandchildren; three brothers, Ray Shoemaker of Salisbury, Donald Shoemaker of Kansas City, Mo., and William Shoemaker of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; and four sisters, Francis Adams of Marshall, Mo., Lorene Stephens of Garland, Texas, Iona Whiting of Burlington and Roberta Williams of Las Vegas.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Howard Funeral Home in Melbourne, Ark.

The funeral for Mrs. Leonard will be at noon Friday at Howard Funeral Home in Melbourne, with Pastor Larry Strope officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Lorberg Funeral Chapel in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Anderson

Evelyn June Anderson, 90, of Winfield, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at her home.

Born June 10, 1912, near Winfield, she was the daughter of Walter and Mattie Cady Cockayne. She married John Anderson. He died Sept. 24, 1956.

Mrs. Anderson worked as a bookkeeper for Winfield Elevator, cooked at the Winfield school and worked at Goff Hardware and Wyman Wearhouse.

She was a graduate of Winfield High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, United Presbyterian Women, congregate meals and the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include four daughters, Bev McCulley of Oakville, Dixie Banks of Cedar Rapids, and Janet Gipple and Marje Peterson, both of Columbus Junction; two sons, Richard Anderson of Burlington and Darrell Anderson of Winfield; 19 grandchildren; and 32 great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one infant daughter and one infant sister.

Visitation will begin after noon today at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Anderson will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, with the Rev. Elwin Colson officiating. Burial will be in Winfield–Scott Township Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for First Presbyterian Church and Winfield First Responders.

DIANNE K. SCHROEDER

Funeral Services for Miss Dianne Kay Schroeder, 53, of Galesburg, Illinois, formerly of Burlington, will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Vicki Engelmann will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in memory of Dianne K. Schroeder.

PAUL HEMANN

Funeral Services for Mr. Paul Frederick Hemann, 93, of Burlington will be held in St. Luke's United Church of Christ this afternoon at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Vicki Engelmann will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . There will be no formal visitation. Friends may call after 12:00 P.M. today. A memorial has been established for St. Luke's United Church of Christ and the local Alzheimer's Association.

Wade Kline

Wade A. Kline, 1, of Warsaw, Ill., died Thursday night, Dec. 23, 2004, in a fire in the family's house.

Born Dec. 3, 2003, in Keo–kuk, he was the son of Jeff Brookhart and Jennifer Kline.

Survivors include his mother and father; one sister, Allie Brookhart of Warsaw; one brother, Hunter Malone of Warsaw; maternal grandparents, Steve and Brenda Kline of Keokuk; paternal grandparents, Richard and Pamela Brookhart of Fort Madison; special grandparents, Robert and Diana Gooding of Warsaw; maternal great–grandparents, Jim and Betty Jairl of Keokuk; paternal great–grandfather, Roger Nichols of Warsaw; three aunts; three uncles; and two great–uncles.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great–grandmother and maternal great–grandparents.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at DeJong's Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends.

The funeral for Wade A. Kline will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at DeJong's Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Varner officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
