Mae Register

Mae Register of Mount Pleasant died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Arrangements are pending at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.

Doris L. Wilson

The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Doris Louise Wilson, 73, who died Thursday, January 29, 2004, will be Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Frank Beaty will officiate. Inurnment will be in Blakeway Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. Mrs. Wilson has donated her body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, memorials for GRMC Hospice and YWCA Battered Women's Shelter have been established.

Rex I. Tadlock

There will be no visitation or service for Mr. Rex Ira Tadlock, 42, who died Monday, February 2, 2004. A memorial has been established. Condolences and memorials may be mailed to 825 Oak St., P.O. Box 14, Burlington, IA 52601.

Otto Ensminger

Otto Ensminger, 92, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Salem and Lombard, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant. Arrangements are pending at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.

Larry Dieterich

Larry Dieterich, 58, of Revere, Mo., formerly of Kahoka, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.

Born Aug. 4, 1946, in Kahoka, Mo., he was the son of Francis "Buntice" and Catherine Allen Dieterich. On Oct. 24, 1963, he married Donna Speck in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. Dieterich worked at Steel Castings since 1965.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Keokuk and USWA local union No. 3311. He enjoyed deer hunting, riding his tractor and being outside with his dog.

Survivors include his mother; two daughters, Kathryn Dieterich of Revere, Mo., and Kimberly Hobb of Keokuk; two sisters, Frances Oiler and Karen Butts both of Medill, Mo.; one aunt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, his grandfather, one sister, one aunt and two uncles.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, Mo., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Dieterich is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Funeral Home in Kahoka, Mo., with the Rev. Keith Percell officiating. Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, Mo.

A memorial has been established to American Cancer Society of American Heart Association.

Maxine Fowler

Dorothy Maxine Fowler, 85, of Wayland, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.

Born Feb. 16, 1919, at Wayland, Mo., she was the daughter of Clyde E. and Nellie M. Johnson Boone. On Jan. 11, 1939, she married John Roscoe Fowler. He preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1984.

Mrs. Fowler was a homemaker and helped her husband with his commercial fishing business.

She attended Alexandria Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Lend A Hand Extension Club, a former board member of OATS and a contact person at Wayland for many years. She also was a correspondent for the media. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Ann Cowen of Keokuk; two sons, John Fowler of Gregory Landing, Mo. and Don Fowler of Wayland; one sister, Della Radcliffe of Keokuk; nine grandchildren; three step–grandchildren; 17 great–grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

The funeral for Mrs. Fowler will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, Mo., with the Rev. David Castrodale officiating. Burial will be in Sand Cemetery at St. Francisville.

A memorial has been established to Clark Co. OATS or Alexandria Presbyterian Church.

Kelly Walker

Kelly Carl Walker, 48, of Morning Sun Care Center, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 1, 1956, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Lawrence and Dorothy Donahue Walker. On Dec. 4, 1976, he married Annetta Bailey in Mount Pleasant. They later divorced.

Mr. Walker was an agronomist for Double Circle Co–op for 11 years. He also worked for Amoco Oil Co. for six years.

He received many sales awards during his career. His hobbies included boating and restoring cars.

Survivors include one son, Britt M. Walker of Lone Tree; one daughter, Stephanie A. Walker of Iowa City; one grandchild; and one brother, Larry Walker of Lampe, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Walker will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Beatty Funeral Home, with Pastor Randy Gearhart officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

SHERRI F. JOY GERST

Funeral Services for Sherri F. Joy Gerst, 44, of Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel this morning at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Robert Adams will officiate. Interment will be in Ferrell Cemetery in New London, Iowa. A memorial has been established in memory of Sherri F. Joy Gerst.

RAYMOND K. PEARSON

Funeral Services for Mr. Raymond K. Pearson, 93, of Burlington will be held in the First United Methodist Church on Friday, February 11, 2005, at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Dr. Dennis Tevis will officiate. Interment with full graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League and AmVets Post 52 will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church.

Jeremy Barrett

Jeremy Michael Barrett, 24, of Pearl City, Hawaii, formerly of Winfield, died in a parachute accident Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in Waialu, Hawaii.

Born June 3, 1980, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Todd and Linda Spence and Mark Barrett.

Mr. Barrett was a Petty Officer 2nd Class and hull technician assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit One at Pearl Harbor.

He was a 1999 graduate of Winfield–Mount Union High School and was attending college while serving in the Navy. He enjoyed volunteering time with younger kids. He enjoyed motocross, skydiving, surfing, hiking, bodybuilding and playing the drums.

Survivors include his parents, Todd and Linda Spence of Winfield and Mark Barrett; grandparents, Mo and Ellen Spence and Don and Phyllis Weir, all of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Aaron Barrett of Winfield; one sister, Ashley Spence of Winfield; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his great–grandparents.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Barrett will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Winfield, with the Rev. Greg Carr officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Winfield–Scott Township Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Big Brother/Big Sister program and Winfield Open Bible Church youth fund.

Elaine Rovane

Elaine Jensen Rovane, 75, of Keokuk died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Born Nov. 14, 1929, in Atlantic, she was the daughter of Jens C. and Agnes P. Jensen. On June 14, 1952, she married John Agnew Rovane. He died Oct. 13, 2004.

Mrs. Rovane was a speech therapist in the Des Moines public schools. She later worked for the Speech and Hearing Clinic in Columbia, S.C. After moving to Keokuk, she provided speech therapy in her home to private clients.

She attended Atlantic public schools and was a 1951 graduate of the University of Iowa with a bachelor of arts in speech therapy.

She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk, where she was a vestry member, Sunday school teacher and president of the ECW and Altar Guild. She was a member of the Keokuk Country Club board of directors and the Friendly House board of directors. She was a recipient of the YMCA Layman of the Year award. She was a member of PEO Chapter LZ and Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary. She was president of the Mother's Study Club. She was an active volunteer for Birthright and the United Way for many years.

Survivors include one son, Steven Rovane of West Des Moines; two daughters, Celeste Anderson of Council Bluffs and Mary Weld of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Gardner of Maryland; one brother, Kenneth Jensen of Clarinda; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Holy Eucharist will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk, with the Rev. Bruce Blois officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Holy Cross in St. John's.

Memorials have been established for St. John's Episcopal Church and Birthright.

Edith Wilmesmeier

Edith P. Wilmesmeier, 70, of Lomax, Ill., died at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill.

Born Dec. 7, 1934, in Lomax, she was the daughter of Louis Samuel and Anna Pearl Wilkerson Dietsch. On Dec. 4, 1978, she married Paul Edward Wilmesmeier Jr. in Raritan, Ill.

Mrs. Wilmesmeier was a laborer, retiring from Sheaffer Pen Co.

She was of the Nazarene faith. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, cats and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Anna Boyles of Mount Pleasant and Kris Schnedler of Mediapolis; four grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Gnagy of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Dorothy Gualtieri of Dallas City, Ill.; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel. The body has been cremated.

The memorial service for Mrs. Wilmesmeier will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Gearhart officiating.

A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association.

Jane Cahill

Jane E. Cahill, 78, of Burlington, died at 9:19 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Great River Medical Center.

Born March 20, 1926, in Sutherland, she was the daughter of George William and Lucy Grace Boyer Engelke. On June 15, 1948, she married William S. Cahill in Sutherland.

Mrs. Cahill was an English teacher at Burlington High School for 25 years.

She attended St. Paul's Catholic Church and was a member of Burlington Book Club, Christian Women's Club and Birthright of Burlington. She was also a Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Susan J. Cahill of Burlington, Laura C. Rees of Whitefish Bay, Wis., and Maureen V. Cahill of Burlington; two sons, William J. Cahill and John M. Cahill, both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; one great–grandson; and one brother, William Engelke of Sutherland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh Funeral Service, and the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, where there will be a Christian wake service at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

The funeral for Mrs. Cahill will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating.

A memorial has been established to Birthright of Burlington and Classics Lending Library at Burlington Community High School.
