William "Ed" E. Otto

The funeral service for Mr. William "Ed" Edwin Otto, 92, who died Tuesday, September 23, 2003, will be Saturday, September 27th at 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Daniel Cole will officiate. Interment will be in Wapello Cemetery . Friends may call from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM today in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends on Saturday for one hour prior to the time of service. A memorial has been established for Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church.

James O. Scholer

James O. Scholer, 76, of Naples, Florida, died at 7:55 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in Naples.

Born Jan. 20, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of Fred E. and Leoneda Luchner Scholer. On April 23, 1949, he married Ann Kurimski in Burlington.

Mr. Scholer was proud to be affiliated with Carl A. Nelson for 44 years and retired in 1992 as vice president. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, United Way, Boy Scouts of America and the American Little League Association he served his community and family. He also served on the St. Paul's Parish Council and the Notre Dame Athletic Board. His marriage, children, grandchildren and great grandchild are what he considered to be his greatest accomplishments.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church, Burlington, and St. Ann Catholic Church, Naples, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Ann of Naples, Florida; three sons, Fred (Gwen) Scholer of Burlington, Randy (Colleen) Scholer of Cedar Rapids, and Lenny (Kim) Scholer of Newport News, Virginia; one daughter, Pam (Mike) Nelson of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Matt (Jann) Robie, Ben (Laura) Robie, Heidi Nelson, Stacey (Matt) Rascon, Carly Nelson, Geoff Nelson, Kristen Scholer, Jonathan Scholer and Quinton Scholer; one great–grandson, Tate Nelson; one cousin and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, his parents, two brothers and one sister.

A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington with Father Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Friends may call at Prugh's Chapel after 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday morning from 8:30 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association.

M. Shane Kelly

M. Shane Kelly, 48, of West Frankfort, Ill., formerly of Nauvoo, Ill., died at 11:55 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Ill.

Born Oct. 28, 1954, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Dermot and June Attridge Kelly.

Mr. Kelly had been a brakeman for the Santa Fe Railroad.

He was a 1972 graduate of Nauvoo–Colusa High School. He loved to hunt, boat, ride four–wheelers and watch funny movies.

Survivors include his parents of Nauvoo; four daughters, Stacy Prskalo of Mokena, Ill., Colleen Kelly of Naperville, Ill., Amanda Kelly of Fort Madison and Maureen Kelly of Des Moines; four grandchildren; two sisters, Sheila Walckner of Nauvoo, and Mary Ellen Moorad of Modesto, Calif.; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, one sister and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Nauvoo.

The funeral for Mr. Kelly will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Lamporte Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony Trosley officiating. The body will be cremated following the service.

A memorial has been established.

Ruth Todd

Ruth E. Todd, 83, of Wheaton, Ill., died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, Ill.

Born March 2, 1921, in Union County, Pa., she was the daughter of Jesse E. and Leona E. Hascher Tyson. She first married Donald O. Chatman in Peoria, Ill. He died Feb. 15, 1988. In July 1991, she married J.W. Todd. He died Jan. 1, 2002.

Mrs. Todd worked in the Peoria area for Best Foods for several years.

Following her marriage to J.W. Todd, she moved to McAllen, Texas, where she became an active volunteer at the hospital there. She loved to bake and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and crafts. She was an avid traveler.

Survivors include one stepson, Thomas Jay Todd of Wheaton; three stepdaughters, Martha Ann Hulett of New Windsor, Ill., Julia Marie Hillman of Aledo, Ill., and Jill Sime of Racine, Wis.; and four stepgrandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.

There will be no visitation.

The graveside funeral for Mrs. Todd will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage, lll., with the Rev. Greg G. Busboom officiating.

A memorial has been established.

Robert Ganion

Robert Ganion, 90, of Carthage, Ill., died of natural causes at 5:25 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.

Born Feb. 27, 1914, in Thyer, Mo., he was the son of Carl and Florence Folkerts Ganion. On Dec. 31, 1936, he married Maxine Hardy in Quincy, Ill.

Mr. Ganion was a farmer for 12 years before working for the Hancock County Highway Department for 27 years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Carthage and Odd Fellows.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Larry of Muncie, Ind.; three grandchildren; five great–grandchildren; one brother, John Ganion of West Plains, Mo.; and two sisters, Margaret Willard and Bertha Loclemiller, both of Springfield, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service for Mr. Ganion will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Carthage. Burial will follow in Harmony Township Cemetery near Bentley.

Memorials have been established for First Baptist Church in Carthage or Hancock County Blessing Hospice.

Harold W. Garmoe

The funeral service for Mr. Harold W. Garmoe, 81, who died Monday, October 4, 2004, will be today at 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Tyrone Henderson will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for New London Nursing and Rehab and Great River Hospice.

Edith M. Avery

The graveside funeral service and interment for Mrs. Edith Maxine Avery, 78, who died Thursday, October 7, 2004, will be Monday, October 11th, at 10:00 AM in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . The Rev. Trevor Davis will officiate. Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 10th, in Lunning Chapel. The family will not be present. A memorial has been established.

NOLAN L. PHILLIPS

A visitation for Mr. Nolan L. Phillips, 82, of Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday, October 9, 2003, between the hours of 6:30 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. As per Mr. Phillips' request his body has been cremated.

Marguerite E. Wachutka

The funeral service for Mrs. Marguerite E. Wachutka, 89, who died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, will be Friday, October 10th at 2:00 PM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Moberg will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after noon until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 8th in Lunning Chapel, and also from 8:00 AM until the time of service on Friday, October 10th. There will be no family visitation. Memorials have been established for St. Paul's United Church of Christ and Burlington Care Center Activity Fund.

Fremont Ruschill

The funeral service for Mr. Fremont Ruschill, 87, who died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, will be Friday, October 10th at 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Jack Wolgamuth will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 8th in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday. A memorial has been established.

WILMA E. "DING" SCHRAMM

Funeral Services for Mrs. Wilma E. "Ding" Schramm, 84, of Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Harris Cemetery in Dallas City, Illinois. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. A memorial has been established for Great River Medical Center Hospice. Friends may call after 8:00 A.M. on Monday.

Mabel Hasten

Mabel K. Hasten, 78, of rural Blandinsville, Ill., died at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at her home.

Born Oct. 6, 1926, in Webster, Ill., she was the daughter of Fred and Olive Yetter Hillers. On Feb. 15, 1946, she married Carl Junior Hasten in Galesburg, Ill. He died April 19, 2003.

Mrs. Hasten was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She also worked at the Dennis Chicken Factory in Augusta, Ill., as a supervisor.

She attended Hobart Grade School and was a graduate of Blandinsville High School. She lived on a farm her entire married life. She enjoyed quilting, was a dedicated Democrat and on the election boards for many years, served as a deputy tax assessor and worked at the Mary Davier Health Center in LaHarpe, Ill., and in the home health field. She was a member of the Liberty Club, USA Club and Webster Quilters Club. She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Hasten of LaHarpe, Janet Wear of Carthage, Ill., and Carol Palmer of Blandinsville; two sons, Tom Hasten of LaHarpe and Jim Hasten of Burnside, Ill.; seven grandchildren; five great–grandchildren; and one brother, Edwin Hillers of LaHarpe.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Hasten will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lee Unger officiating. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for St. Jude Children's Hospital and Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.

Nelly C. Nelson

The funeral service for Mrs. Nelly Caroline Nelson, 98, who died Sunday, November 21, 2004, will be today at 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. William Porter will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8:00 AM today. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and West Hill United Methodist Church.

Mayme E. Gerst

The funeral service for Mrs. Mayme E. Heiniger Strassheim Gerst, 95, who died Friday, November 26, 2004, will be Monday, November 29th, at 10:30 AM in the Apostolic Christian Church of Burlington. Ministers of the Church will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery . Friends may call after 12:00 PM and the family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM in Lunning Chapel. Memorials to Burlington Apostolic Christian Church and Great River Hospice have been established.

James L. Nesius

The funeral service for Mr. James L. "Jim" Nesius, 63, who died Friday, November 28, 2003 will be 11:00 AM today in Zion United Church of Christ. Reverend Gary Chapman will officiate. A private family inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials to Zion United Church of Christ, the Class of 1958 Scholarship Fund and Great River Hospice has been established.

Kermit K. Rohde

The funeral service for Mr. Kermit K. Rohde, 80, who died Sunday, November 30, 2003 will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 3rd at Messiah Lutheran Church. Reverend Donald Hoornstra will officiate. Friends may call after 12:00 PM and the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 2nd in Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Memorials to Hope Haven Development Center and Messiah Lutheran Church have been established.

Wayne I. Kester

The funeral service for Mr. Wayne I. Kester, 77, who died Wednesday, November 27, 2002, will be at 10:00 AM today in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. John Gaulke will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8:00 AM. VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52 and the Hamilton Walters Marine Corps League will conduct Military Rites. Memorials have been established for Hope Haven and Sperry United Methodist Church.

Dorothy R. Burkhiser

The funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Burkhiser, 78, who died Thursday, November 28, 2002, will be at 1:00 PM today in Danville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Latta will officiate. Interment will be in Middletown Cemetery . Friends may call after 10:00 AM at the church. A memorial has been established for the Danville United Methodist church and GRMC Home Health Care.

Shirley A. Stokes Mitchell

The visitation for Ms. Shirley Ann Stokes Mitchell, 61, who died Saturday, November 30, 2002, will be from noon until 8:30 PM today in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. There will be no funeral services and the body of Mrs. Mitchell will be cremated.

PAUL GONZALEZ

Memorial Services for Mr. Paul Gonzalez, 49, of Burlington who died on Sunday, November 28, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel this afternoon at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Fr. Gerald Stouvenel will officiate. Inurnment will be in Brownsville, Texas, at a later date. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel one hour prior to the time of service. As per the wishes of Mr. Gonzalez, his body has been cremated. A memorial has been established in memory of Paul Gonzalez.
