Wilma Schramm

Wilma E. "Ding" Schramm, 84, of Burlington, died at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at her home.

Born Aug. 23, 1920, in Colusa, Ill., she was the daughter of Loyd G. and Vella E. Ramsey Davis. On Feb. 14, 1970, she married Ernest J. Schramm in Burlington. He died April 19, 2004.

Mrs. Schramm worked at Hawkeye Tavern for 15 years. She also was a homemaker.

She was of the Baptist faith. She loved to cook, can, play bingo, go on the boat and assist others.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Scramm of Flat Rock, Mich., and Rodney Scramm of West Burlington; two daughters, Marilyn Muchow of Ottumwa and Suzan Carman of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 11 great–grandchildren; one great–great–granddaughter; and one sister, Helen "Babe" Meyer of Davenport.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Great River Medical Center Hospice.

WALTER D. CAMP

Funeral services for Mr. Walter D. Camp, 86, of Burlington will be held in St. Luke United Church of Christ today at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Vicki Engelmann will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . A memorial has been established for St. Luke United Church of Christ.

JACK W. JOHNSON

Funeral services for Mr. Jack W. Johnson, 84, of Burlington who died on Friday, October 22, 2004, at Great River Medical Center will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Dr. Dennis Tevis will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8:00 A.M. on Monday. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel two hours prior to the time of the service. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League and AMVETS Post 29. A memorial has been established.

D. MARIE BROCKETT

Funeral services for Mrs. D. Marie Brockett, 76, of Burlington who died on Thursday, October 21, 2004, at her home will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Monday, October 25, 2004, at 11:00 A.M. Brother Randy Richardson and Pastor Kendall Adams will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. on Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in memory of D. Marie Brockett. Mrs. Brockett is survived by four daughters, Susan Eaton, Earla Brockett, Connie (Robert) Hutchinson and Bonnie (Randy) Richardson; two sons, Rick (Donna) Brockett and Nick (Donna) Brockett; daughter–in–law, Barbara Brockett; stepmother, Helen Lucille Becker Dietsch; 17 grandchildren; 20 great–grandchildren and one great–great–grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, David; granddaughters, Rhonda, Janelle, Barbara Ann; parents and six brothers.

Robert Steffens

Robert Steffens, 79, of Mount Pleasant, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at his home.

Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m.

The memorial service for Mr. Steffens will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Atlantic.

Memorials have been established for the American Heart Association and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

BONNIE E. RINKER

Memorial Services for Mrs. Bonnie E. Rinker, 84, of Burlington who died on Thursday, November 24, 2005 at Great River Medical Center, Klein Center will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Carl Engstrom will officiate. Inurnment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery . The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service.

ANITA M. BEINE MYERS

Funeral Services for Mrs. Anita M. Beine Myers, 78, of Burlington who died on Friday, November 25, 2005 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Friday, December 2, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Fr. Gerald Stouvenel will officiate. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday evening between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.

GEORGE E. LYONS

Funeral Services for Mr. George Edward Lyons, 84, of Burlington who died on Friday, November 25, 2005 at Great River Medial Center in West Burlington, will be held in Parkside First Baptist Church on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Marshall Jackman and Rev. Tyrone Henderson will officiate. Full military rites by VFW Post 10102 &9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League and AmVets Post 29 will be conducted at the church. Interment will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery . The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A Memorial has been established for Parkside First Baptist Church.

Mary Hoaglin

Mary A. Hoaglin, 100, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at her home.

Born Nov. 18, 1903, in Henry County, she was the daughter of John William and Mary Alice Manning Shumaker. She married Wilfred Brooks Hoaglin. He died in 1970.

She, with her husband, owned and operated the former Hoaglin's Five and Dime Store in Mount Pleasant.

She and her husband wintered in Florida since 1948. After her husband's death, she made her permanent residence in Florida.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha Lehman of Bradenton; eight grandchildren and 13 great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, five sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.

A graveside service for Mrs. Hoaglin will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Forest Home Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Kimberly A. Bowles officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Minerva Pennington

Minerva Darling Pennington, 93, of Columbus Junction, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

Born Aug. 30, 1909, in Wellman, she was the daughter of Edward Forest and Nellie Sleichter Jones. On July 28, 1929, she married the Rev. George Pennington in Wellman. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Pennington served beside her husband for more than 40 years. She also taught for a year at Union School, a one–room rural school.

She was a 1927 graduate of Wellman High School and took normal training before teaching. She was the pianist at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church. She enjoyed attending church, participating in its women's activities, making pies for church dinners; baking apple pies and chocolate chip cookies, going on bank–sponsored bus trips, playing canasta at the meal site, reading and growing houseplants. She was an active member of Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and was a 46–year member of PEO Chapter CX.

Survivors include one son, the Rev. Paul Pennington of Keokuk; one daughter, Martha Murry of Columbus Junction; 12 grandchildren; 30 great–grandchildren; one sister–in–law; one niece; and one daughter–in–law.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stacy–Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction.

The funeral for Mrs. Pennington will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. A luncheon will be held after the funeral at the church. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.

A memorial has been established for Columbus Junction United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens Meal Site in Columbus Junction.

Rolland Underwood

Rolland H. Underwood, 76, of rural Keosauqua, died at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

Born Oct. 28, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of Leo H. and Edna Jackson Underwood. On April 10, 1949, he married Virginia Anderson in Danville.

Mr. Underwood was a retired security officer at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown.

He lived in Keokuk, many years in Burlington and the past 11 years on his farm northeast of Keosauqua. He was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church, Keosauqua Lodge No. 10, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and active in the Keosauqua Lions Club. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and shooter. He exhibited gladiolus at the Iowa State Fair and was range master at Burlington Gun Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronnie Underwood of Burlington and Randy Underwood of Keosauqua; nine grandchildren; and six great–grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with a Masonic service by Keosauqua Lodge at 3 p.m., followed by family visitation until 4:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Underwood will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Byron Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery on the IAAP grounds in Middletown.

A memorial has been established for the Diabetes Association.

Donna R. Peebler

The funeral service for Mrs. Donna Rose Peebler, 74, who died Friday, December 3, 2004, will be Wednesday, December 8, at 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dean Moberg will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8 AM on Tuesday, December 7th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 6:00 PM. A memorial has been established.

Frances Wyse

Frances Elizabeth Wyse, 90, of Parkview Home in Wayland, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Parkview Home.

Born July 18, 1914, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Edd and Elizabeth Good Wenger. On Nov. 20, 1934, she married Mahlon S. Wyse in Wayland. He died Nov. 25, 1991.

Mrs. Wyse was a homemaker. She also worked at J & L Steakhouse in Mount Pleasant for many years.

She attended Sommers Country School in Washington County. She was a member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church near Wayland in her youth. In 1950, she and her family, as part of a larger group, transferred membership from Sugar Creek Mennonite Church to help start Bethel Mennonite Church. In 1958, she transferred again to start Pleasant View Mennonite Church in Mount Pleasant, where she was a member until her death. She enjoyed singing, sewing, quilting and making hand drawn birthday cards. She had a large garden and cooked, baked and canned a lot.

Survivors include three sons, Gene Wyse, Ronald J. Wyse and Richard Wyse, all of rural Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Sharon Miller of Ambler, Pa., and Rebecca J. Wyse of San Mates, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 19 great–grandchildren; one sister, Margaret of Mount Pleasant; and one brother, Clarence Wenger of Wayland.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

A memorial service for Mrs. Wyse will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Bob Hartzler officiating. Burial will precede the service at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Mennonite Cemetery near Wayland.

Memorials have been established for Pleasant View Mennonite Church and Parkview Home.

Jennie Lee Gallup

The Graveside Committal Service and Interment for Mrs. Jennie Lee Gallup, 87, will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 8, at the Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating. There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established for the Burlington Care Center.

Sarah Bond

Sarah A. Clarkson Bond, 69, of Niagara Falls, died after a long illness Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004 at her home.

Born Jan. 28, 1935, in Quincy, Ill., she was the daughter of Donald and Lola Wood Clarkson. She married Norman L. Bond. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bond was a homemaker.

She moved to Niagara Falls in 1977. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and doing word searches.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Bouchard and Monica Kephart, both of Niagara Falls; one son, Richard Rudicil of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; one brother, Sonny Clarkson of Quincy; and two sisters, Darlene Durow of Burlington and Claudine Wussler of Oroville, Calif.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter.

There were no visitation or funeral services.

Labuda Funeral Home Inc. of Niagara Falls was in charge of arrangements.
