CLINTON, Iowa -- Marjorie M. Thomas, of the Alverno Health Care Facility, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at the care facility. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Camanche. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the church. Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. She was employed as an elementary teacher and principal in Clinton schools. Marjorie Mayer was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Lyons. She married Marvin Thomas in 1947 in Clinton. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jane Harding, Clinton; sons, Dr. David, Marshalltown, John, Camanche, and Paul, Eldora; 25 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; sisters, Donna Stelling, Greenville, S.C., and Claire Kallenbach, Port Clinton, Ohio; and brothers, Alan Mayer, Clinton, and Richard Mayer, Peoria, Ill.

Ernest Bobek
CLINTON, Iowa -- Ernest F. Bobek, of 3412 Cleveland St., died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at his home. Private memorial services will be held at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. No visitation will be held. Mr. Bobek was employed as a manager at Goodman's Jewelry Store, Clinton, and as a sales associate in advertising at the Clinton Herald. He retired in 1982. He was born July 28, 1923, in Mason City. He married Marjorie Smith in 1947 in Mason City. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps with the 2nd Division 1st Platoon on Guadalcanal. Memorials may be made to Hospice VNA, Clinton. Survivors include his wife; sons, Stephen, Coralville, William, Toronto, Canada, and Jeffrey, Barrington; a stepson, Woodrow Kline, Chillicothe, Mo.; two grandsons; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Blanche Vician, Placerville, Calif., and Emily Byl, Mason City.

Wilma Farnsworth
GALVA, Ill. -- Wilma D. Farnsworth, of Galva, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Toulon Health Care Center. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery . Wilma Weers was born Feb. 20, 1919, in Lacon. She married Robert Farnsworth in 1950 in Cambridge. They owned and operated East Gate Bowling Lanes for many years. He died in 1973. She also was employed as a clerk at Murnen's Dress Shop, Galva. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Bill Gillis
ERIE, Ill. -- Services for Bill A. Gillis, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Erie, will be 10 a.m. Friday at National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Mr. Gillis died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at his home. He retired as a machinist at Rock Island Arsenal. He was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Ottumwa, Iowa. He married Rose Marie Dickey in 1948. During World War II, he served in the Army. He received a Bronze Star Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster and Purple Heart. Memorials may be made to Baby Fold, Bloomington, or Hospice of Lake and Sumter Counties. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Tina Penney, Moline; sons, Terry L., Erie, B. Alan, Bloomington, and Dane M., Moline; eight granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Keith, Bentonville, Ark.

Raymond Morris
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Raymond A. Morris, of Muscatine, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery , Muscatine, with military services by Muscatine Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1545 and American Legion Post 27 combined units. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Morris died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Muscatine Care Center. He worked on the farm for many years and at City Hall, Heinz Manufacturing and Muscatine Memorial Park. He was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Kirksville, Mo. He married Eunice Hall. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include a sister, Mary Yordt, Muscatine.

Ruth Gould
NEPONSET, Ill. -- Ruth L. Gould, of Neponset, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Meadows Mennonite Nursing Home, Chenoa. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery , Neponset. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Gould taught grade school in Neponset for 30 years. Ruth Dahl was born March 3, 1908, in Neponset. She married Melvin Gould in 1930. He preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to Neponset Historical Society or Neponset United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Dunahee, Lexington; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Iral Ellyson
WEST BRANCH, Iowa -- Memorial services for Iral T. Ellyson, of 39 Greenview Drive, will be 3 p.m. Sunday at West Branch Friends Church. The body was cremated. Burial will be in West Branch Cemetery . Mr. Ellyson died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, after a battle with leukemia. Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born March 28, 1923, on the farm four miles north of West Branch where his grandfather, Sewell Ellyson, moved near the turn of the century. He married Judith McLean in 1967 in West Branch. They farmed until 1978 and retired in 1988 from Cargill. He served in the Army during peacetime. Memorials may be made to West Branch Friends Church or Iowa City Free Medical Clinic. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Robyn Hunter, West Branch; sons, Raymond T., Hampstead, Md., and Brian W., Grove City, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Terry Waters
DAVENPORT -- Services for Terry Waters, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Pentecostal Deliverance Church, Davenport. Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery , Davenport. Mr. Waters died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. He was employed as a sales clerk at Sears, Roebuck and Co., and Montgomery Wards, both in Davenport. He was born May 16, 1971, in Joliet, Ill. Memorials may be made to the family or the church. Survivors include daughters, Alexis Bolt and Kalyn Waters, his parents, Jack and Erma Waters, a sister, Yolanda Waters, and brothers, Norma and Gary, all of Davenport.

Lloyd Wright
DAVENPORT -- Services for Lloyd C. Wright, of Davenport, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation is one hour before the service. Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mr. Wright died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. He retired in 1963 as a precious tool grinder in Rock Island Arsenal. He was born Aug. 22, 1915, in Bettendorf. There are no immediate family survivors.

Gordon Schone
BETTENDORF -- Gordon I. Schone, of Bettendorf, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bettendorf Christian Church. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128, Bettendorf, will conduct military services. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Mr. Schone was a farmer in South Dakota until 1963, when he moved to the Davenport area. He retired in 1984 as an assembler at the former International Harvester, Farmall Works, Rock Island. He was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Frankfort, S.D., to Henry and Blanche (McDowell) Schone. He married Hazel M. Harris in 1946 in South Dakota. He was a life member of VFW and a member of American Legion Post 246, Davenport; and Bettendorf Christian Church. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He loved horses and enjoyed skiing, woodworking and auto racing. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Vickie Corso, New York City, and Tammy Lewis, LeClaire, Iowa; sons, Kenneth L., Pickerington, Ohio, Terry G., Bettendorf, Ron G., Bettendorf, Roger D., Milan, Ill., Dennis A., Pickerington, and Jerry O., Pickerington; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Phillips, Huron, S.D.

Edward McCord
MORAVIA, Iowa -- Services for J. Edward McCord, of East Moline, formerly of Moravia, will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Iconium United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Iconium Cemetery . Visitation is 12:30-2:15 p.m. Saturday at Gilbert Nordstrom Funeral Home, Moravia. Mr. McCord died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his home. He was born March 31, 1912, on the McCord farm west of Moravia. He farmed the land with his parents then continued the tradition by raising his own family there. He married Ruth Turner in 1935 in Ottumwa. She died in 1998. Memorials may be made to the church or First Responders. Survivors include a daughter, Martha Grosscup, Overland Park, Kan.; sons, James and Orville, both of East Moline; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Celista Olin
PLEASANT VALLEY, Iowa -- Celista W. Olin, of Pleasant Valley, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at the mortuary. Celista Andresen was born April 27, 1908, in Bennett. Memorials may be made to Eye Research at the University of Iowa Macular Degeneration. Survivors include a sister, Valire Byrne, Davenport.

Betty Richlen
BETTENDORF -- Services for Betty L. Richlen, of Bettendorf, will be 1 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. The Rev. Paul Eversole of the Bible Missionary Church, Davenport, will officiate. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Betty died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at her home. She had been employed as a counselor at the Annie Wittenmyer Youth Center in previous years. Betty Lou Burton was born March 9, 1929, in Rock Island, to Carl A. and Mary A. (Elliott) Burton. She married Daniel Richlen in Davenport. He died Sept. 30, 1986. She was particularly fond of her dog, Shelby. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Diabetes Association. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy Stranger, Bettendorf, Sheila and Darrell Berg, Davenport, and Mary Denise and Troy McDonald, Geneseo, Ill.; a son, Daniel E. Richlen II, Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Davenport; grandchildren, Robin, Becky, Joshua, Samantha, Dustin and Sarah; six great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Terrance McConnell, Davenport. She also was preceded in death her parents and two sisters. May they rest in peace.

Robert Barngrover
CARBONDALE, Kan. -- Robert L. Barngrover, of Carbondale, died Sept. 26, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. Services were Sept. 29 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Topeka. Burial is in West Lawn Memorial Gardens, west of Topeka. Mr. Barngrover owned Custom Auto Trim, Topeka, and worked at the Sante Fe Railroad. He was born March 1, 1925, in Carbondale. He married Evelyn Bingham in 1946 in Lawrence. During World War II, he served with the Navy in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. He was a member of the invasion fleet on D-Day, the invasion of France in June 1944. Memorials may be made to N.E. Kansas Parkinson's Association, P.O. Box 251, Topeka, Kan., or First Christian Church, 1880 S.W. Gage Blvd., Topeka, Kan., 66604. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Karen Absher, Peyton, Colo., and Sandra Ponte, Topeka; sons, Gary, Topeka, and Kerwin, Blue Grass, Iowa; his mother, Romanza Barngrover, Topeka; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Roana Ghan, Topeka.

Nancy Williamson
DAVENPORT -- Memorial services for Nancy Williamson, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mrs. Williamson died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. She was employed in the dietary department at the former Moline Public Hospital and later worked at Clean America Dry Cleaners. She retired in 1992. Nancy Potter was born March 6, 1922, in Davenport. She married William Phares in 1940 in Davenport. He preceded her in death. She married Harvey Rasmussen in 1965 in Moline. He preceded her in death. She married Charles Williamson in 1966 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters, Sandra Kline, Davenport, Janet Teters, Muscatine, Iowa, and Christine Phares, Park View, Iowa; sons, James Phares, Blue Grass, Iowa, William Phares, Davenport, and John Phares, Moline; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wilma Cronkleton, Kansas City.

Keith Wiese
GENESEO, Ill. -- Services for Keith E. Wiese, of Geneseo, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Ronald Webb will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery , Geneseo, with military services by Shearer Post 350 American Legion, Geneseo. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Wright Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo, where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Wiese died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. He retired in 1984 after 35 years at Rock Island Arsenal. After that, he was employed until March 1999 as a custodian at Grace United Methodist Church. He was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Cornwall Township, Henry County, to Wilbur S. and Hazel (Hart) Wiese. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1944. He married Phyllis Werkheiser on March 18, 1951, in Geneseo. He served in the 11th Airborne Paratroop in the Army during World War II. He was in the first occupational force in Sendai, Japan. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Builders Class of the church and was church treasurer for 30 years. He also was a member of Stewart Lodge 92 A.F. & A.M.; Geneseo Eastern Star Chapter 275; Moline Consistory; Zal Grotto, Moline; and Shearer Post 350 American Legion Post, Geneseo. He was a former member of Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a 13-gallon blood donor to the Mississippi Valley Blood Bank. He enjoyed gardening, his family and jigsaw puzzles. He was an avid Geneseo "Green Machine" football fan. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or Aisle of Flags. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Randy Ullmark, Geneseo; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Brenda Wiese, Princeton, Iowa; grandchildren, Josh and Tessa Ullmark, Rapid City, S.D., Jennie Ullmark, Waverly, Iowa, and Paul Wiese, Princeton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Gordon Knowles
MOMENCE, Ill. -- Gordon N. Knowles, of Momence, died Sept. 25, 1999, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. Services were Sept. 29 at Calvary Baptist Church, Momence. Burial is in Kankakee Memorial Gardens. Military services were held at the burial. Mr. Knowles retired in 1995 from Momence Packing Co. He had operated Knowles Plants, Momence. He was born July 20, 1927, in Bensenville. He married Lela Norton in 1952 in Aledo. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cindi Denny, Momence; sons, Allen, Peoria, Ariz., David, Bourbonnais, Robert, Atlanta, Larry, Muscatine, Iowa, and Daniel, Momence; his father, Leslie Knowles, Bourbonnais; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Routien, Bourbonnais.
