GALVA, Ill. -- Services for Stanley R. "Bud" Ballard, of Galva, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church of Galva. Military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery . Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Monday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Mr. Ballard died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home. He was a journeyman lineman and area foreman, retiring in 1997 after 50 years of service from Illinois Valley Electric Cooperative. He was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Spring Valley. He married Marjorie Balko in 1950 in Princeton. She died in 1991. He married Robyn Newman in 1995 in Galva. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marcia Ballard, Galva; sons, Tim, Biggsville, and Kim, Galva; stepsons, Tracy Newman, of Missouri, and Troy Newman, Galva; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandsons; a sister, Louise Ballard, Bureau; and brothers, Daniel, Glenview, and John, Princeton.

Corene Madison
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Corene Madison, of Parkview Care Center, East Moline, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Orr's Mortuary, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill. She had been employed as a bus driver for Project Now. She was born April 9, 1952, in Dekalb, Miss. Survivors include her parents, James Sr. and Beatrice (Moody) Madison; sisters, Ada Madison McCorkle, Bettendorf, and Darlene Dortch, East Moline; and brothers, James Jr., East Moline, and LaVern Madison, Rock Island.

Edna Bluedorn
BETTENDORF -- Services for Edna E. Bluedorn, a resident of Bettendorf Health Care Center, formerly of Walcott, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Walcott Cemetery , Iowa. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Mrs. Bluedorn died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Bettendorf Health Care Center. She was a homemaker. Edna Bottomley was born May 31, 1917, in Davenport. She married Harvey Bluedorn in 1934 in Davenport. He died in 1988. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Survivors include daughters, Edna Fleagle, West Branch, Iowa, Carol Weiler, Blue Grass, Iowa, Rose Fischlein, El Reno, Okla., Marylyn Robertson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Debrah Kirby, Bettendorf; sons, Donald Bluedorn, Clarksville, Tenn., William Bluedorn, Milan, Ill., Harvey Bluedorn, New Boston, Ill, and Eugene Bluedorn, Moline; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ellen Lehms and Lillian Baker, both of Davenport.

James Cox
DAVENPORT -- James H. Cox Sr., of 1220 Mississippi Ave., joined his father in Heaven with his family by his side, Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport, after a courageous fight with cancer. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Jim was born April 7, 1934, in Red Lodge, Mont., to Herbert Cox and Virginia Mathison Cox. He married the love of his life Barbara Smith on April 8, 1961, in Davenport. Jim, a member of the UAW, worked as an electrician at John Deere Harvester Works, Moline, until his retirement in 1995. He attended Montana State University and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, in 1963. He was a long standing member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Davenport, where he sang in the choir, served as a trustee and worked as a youth leader for many years. Jim also volunteered and served as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed working and always had a smile on his face and a whistle on his lips. One of the greatest joys in Jim's life was he spent with his family and friends. There was nothing in his life more important to Jim to than his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He served in the US Air Force from 1951-55. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his son and daughter-in-law, James H. Cox Jr. and Lisa, Davenport; a daughter, Cyndi, Davenport; grandchildren, James Cox III, Christopher, Anna and Carly; a sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed and Sue Moss, Billings, Mont.; and many family and friends.

Nikole Sommers
MIDDLETOWN, Ill. -- Services for Nikole E. Sommers, of Middletown, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Church, Elkhart. The Rev. Patrick DeMeulemesster will officiate. Burial will be in Irish Grove Cemetery , Middletown. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today at Kerrigan Funeral Home, 401 Delavin St., Lincoln, IL, 62656, with a rosary at 5:45 p.m., and from 9:15 p.m. until time of services Monday at the church. Nikole died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at her home. She had been in ill health. She was born June 30, 1983, in Springfield, the daughter of Kerry and Kathleen (Cumberworth) Sommers. She was a member of KCB Historical Society, Middletown, and St. Patrick's Church, Elkhart. She had participated in Special Olympics. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Church or KCB Historical Society. Survivors include her parents; a sister, Tessa Sommers; brothers, John and Kiley Sommers, all at home; her maternal grandmother, Aline Cumberworth, Peru, and her paternal grandparents, Richard and Marge Sommers, Prophetstown. She was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather, and one sister.

Harold Goddard
CLINTON, Iowa -- Harold A. Goddard, of Clinton, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Clinton Campus. Services will be noon Wednesday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was employed at Curtis Co. for 20 years, leaving in 1960 as a foreman. From 1960-1964, he was employed with the city of Clinton street department. In 1964, he became the first person to be hired for the city of Clinton Water Pollution Control Plant and was the first chief operator of the plant, retiring in 1980. He was born June 3, 1915, in LaPorte City. He married Rebecca Stratton in 1940 in Clinton. She died Jan. 8, 1989. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Ferguson, Clinton; sons, John and Ed, both of Clinton; eight grandchildren; one step-grandson; three great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson; a sister, Helen Cooper, East Falmouth, Mass.; and brothers, Robert, Clinton, and Rev. Albert, DeLand, Fla.

Clara Waterstreet
MORRISON, Ill. -- Services for Clara F. Waterstreet, a resident of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, preceded by a 11:15 p.m. family prayer service at the church. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery , Morrison. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison. Mrs. Waterstreet died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at the nursing home. She farmed with her husband in the rural Morrison and Lyndon areas. She also was a homemaker. Clara Janssen was born Aug. 13, 1908, in Prophetstown. She married William Waterstreet in 1927 in Morrison. He died in 1987. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Resthave Nursing Home. Survivors include daughters, Dorothy Kaufman, Lyndon, and Elaine Hapke, Pekin; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Neil McDermott
SABULA, Iowa -- Mass services for Neil J. McDermott, of DeSoto, Mo., formerly of Sabula, will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sabula. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery , Sabula. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula. Mr. McDermott died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at his home. He worked 25 years for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad. He worked in Clinton, Iowa, Cudahy, Wis., Des Moines, Chicago and DeSoto. He as born Feb. 20, 1950, in Savanna. He married Shirley Koos in 1972 in Bellevue. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; sons, Aaron, Altoona, and Jason, Goose Creek, S.C.; three grandchildren; his mother, Rose McDermott, Sabula; sisters, Bernadette Christof and Mary Gordon, both of Sabula, Theresa Melius, Blaine, Minn., Carolyn Liddle, Camanche, and Barbara Cullen, Loves Park, Ill.; and brothers, Edward, Sabula, and John, Clinton.

Clarence Yoerger
BELLEVUE, Iowa -- Clarence J. Yoerger, of Bellevue, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Mercy Health Care Center, Dubuque. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Kingery Funeral Home, Bellevue. There will be a scripture wake service at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He had owned his own trucking company, worked at the Bellevue Creamery, Gibson's Manufacturing. Co., Bellevue, Clinton Engines Co., Maquoketa, and retired from Volcan Tool Co., Dubuque, in 1983. He was born July 21, 1917, in Springbrook. He married Evelyn Abeln in 1930 in Bellevue. She died in 1994. Survivors include daughters, Mary Mussmann, Bellevue, and Sharon Mussmann, Preston; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Armella Kilburg, Delmar, and Euphorsenia Noel, DeWitt.

Gisela Noel
EAST MOLINE -- The loving memory of Gisela Noel, of East Moline, will live on after passing away from her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Funeral services will be noon Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with a liturgy service at 6 p.m. Gisela Dewald was born June 21, 1937, in Viernheim, Germany to Johann and Katharina (Zehnbauer) Dewald. She received her college degree at Mannheim University in 1956. She exchanged wedding vows with Gordon William Noel on May 24, 1958. For the past 19 years she has been employed by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, after spending 15 years working as a department manager at Arlans, Target and Venture stores. She served all offices of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the German-American Family Club. Her special interest and hobbies were cooking, crocheting, sewing, gardening and traveling. Most of all, being a lovingly devoted grandmother. She is survived by her son William, East Moline; a daughter and son-in-law, Katharina (Noel) and Kenneth Watts Jr., Hillsdale; Grandchildren, Angelika Watts, Colona, and Eric Watts, Hillsdale; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Fritz Fendrich, Elfreidle and Alois Schnaubeldt; a brother, Otto Dewald; sisters-in-law, Friedle and Annel Dewald, all of Viernheim, Germany; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Tricia Noel, Hampton, Bob and Jimmie Noel, East Moline, and Yvonne Noel, Cudahy, Wis.; 23 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. Plus her very special friend Traudel Mullet, Clinton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Hans and Kurt Dewald.

Alfred Harder
DeWITT, Iowa -- Services for Alfred W. Harder, of DeWitt, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. Burial will be at a later date at Salem Lutheran Cemetery , Spragueville. There will be no visitation. Schultz Funeral Homes, DeWitt, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Harder died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at DeWitt Community Hospital. He and his wife farmed and did carpenter work in the DeWitt area. He was born Sept. 25, 1911, in Delmar. He married Maxine Beck in 1940 in Palmyra, Mo. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Hospice of VNA. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Wilson, Seattle; a son, Jerry, Indian Head Park, Ill.; and a brother, Arnold, Maquoketa.

Doris Hunsley
DAVENPORT -- Doris A. Hunsley, of Davenport, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at her home. Private services will be held. She had been employed for 25 years at the Rock Island Arsenal as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1986. Doris Ohrberg was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Moline. Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Couch, Bettendorf; sons, Bruce Gray, Calamus, Iowa, and Guy Wendinger, Lynnwood, Wash.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Ohrberg, Boise, Idaho.

Barbara Orr
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Barbara "Minnie" Orr, of Muscatine, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Lutheran Homes. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Muscatine. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery . Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine, with a rosary prayer service at 7 p.m. She worked for many years at various local button factories. Barbara Spillman was born May 3, 1902, in Ossian. She married James Orr in 1926 in Muscatine. Memorials may be made to the St. Mathias Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Harter, of New Mexico; a son, Raymond Orr, Muscatine; seven grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Danny Loete Jr.
TAYLOR RIDGE, Ill. -- Services for Danny Loete Jr., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Family Funeral Services, Milan. Burial will be in Edgington Cemetery . Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Loete died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, in Rock Island. County. He was employed by the Quad-Cities Insulation, Davenport, for 12 years. He was then employed by HTH of Union, Mo., in the Monsanto Division, Muscatine, Iowa, for the past year. He was born Nov. 2, 1961. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his fiancee, Lora VanDolah Hall, Edgington; daughters, Ashley and Heather Hall, both of Edgington; sons, Christopher, Illinois City, and Bryan Hall, Edgington; his mother, Dorothy Gehlken; his step-father, William Gehlken; and sisters, Tammy Carlson, Andalusia, and Christina Loete, Des Molines.

DAVENPORT -- Services for Dorothy E. Daley, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Mrs. Daley died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at her home. In earlier years she had worked as the former Abrahms as a beautician. She worked part-time for several years after that at a beautician at the Clarissa Cook Home. Dorothy O'Brien was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Davenport. She married Donald Daley in 1944 in Davenport. He preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Gillespie, Davenport, Mary Daley, Iowa City; sons, Robert Daley, Davenport, and John Daley, Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret Lindquist
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Memorial mass for Margaret S. Lindquist, of Kewanee, will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Kewanee. Private family inurnment will be at a late date. There will be no visitation. Schuneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Lindquist died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. She had worked for 20 years as a leather stocker at Boss Manufacturing Co., Kewanee. Margaret Scherry was born April 19, 1911, in Kewanee. She married Leonard Lindquist in 1942 in Galva. He died in 1996. Survivors include a brother, Homer Lippens, Kewanee; two nieces; and four nephews.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Betty J. Howard, of Muscatine, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery , Muscatine. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Howard died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine. She worked at the Galley Restaurant and at Nielsen Clearing House. Betty Wince was born June 24, 1927, in Louisa County. She married James Howard in 1945 in Muscatine. Memorials may be made to the Betty Howard Memorial Fund. Survivors include a daughter, Shelby Howard, Muscatine; a son, James Howard Jr., Muscatine; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters Sharon Aide, Lexington, S.C., and Ginny Berry, of Las Vegas; and brothers, William Wince, Muscatine, Sam Wince, Davenport, and Charles Wince, Bettendorf.
