Jasper Brown
HESPERIA, Calif. -- Jasper W. Brown, of Hesperia, formerly of Muscatine, Iowa, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, in Algona, Iowa. The Crematory Society of Iowa, Ankeny, Iowa, accorded cremation rites. He was a skilled worker, working as an electrician, a plumber and in maintenance work. He was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Muscatine. He married Doris Perry in 1937 in Kansas City, Mo. During World War II, he served in the Army. Survivors include his wife, Doris Brown, Algona; a daughter, Gwen Custer, Provo, Utah; sons, Roger, Algona, Joseph, Bettendorf; William, West Covina, Dennis, Davenport, Steven, Greyson, and Timothy, Henderson, Nev.; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Marvin Kuhl
ROCK ISLAND -- Marvin Kuhl, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. He worked as a dairy processor and plant manager for Baker's Dairy, Moline, retiring in 1987. He was born Jan. 30, 1925, in Davenport. He married Anne Goossen in 1953 in Davenport. During World War II, he served in U.S. Marine Corps and received the Purple Heart. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society-Iowa Region. Survivors include his wife; and a brother, Vernon, Eldridge, Iowa.

Louis A. 'Pete' Turf
EAST MOLINE -- Funeral services for Louis A. "Pete" Turf, East Moline, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline, where he was a member. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a liturgy service will be read at 5:30 p.m. Mr. Turf died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, Ill. He was born Nov. 26, 1918, in East Moline, the son of Henri and Marie (Dussliere) Turf. He married Dorothy DeSmet on Aug. 19, 1944, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. He worked at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, for 44 years, retiring in 1981. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed walking. Pete was a World War II Army veteran. Memorials may be made to the Monsignor William J. Cleary Endowment Fund or the American Cancer Society. Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Stuart Soliz, Moline, Janis and Joseph Francois, Bloomington, Ill., and Christine Schwartz, East Moline; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Gail Turf, East Moline; 15 grandchildren; and sisters, Betty Williams, Davenport, and Rachel Hawthorn, East Moline. He is preceded in death by his son, Larry, in 1975.

Wilma Kilstrom
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Memorial services for Wilma F. Kilstrom, of Kewanee, will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Evergreen Cemetery , Kewanee. Mrs. Kilstrom died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at her home. There will be no visitation. Schueneman Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements. Wilma Davis was born Dec. 23, 1913, in rural Brown County. She married Evar Hildean Kilstrom. He died in 1993. She had worked at Boss Glove Manufacturing Co., Kewanee, as a payroll clerk in the downtown business office. Survivors include a daughter, Rozann Snyder, Kewanee; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Mary L. Ziemer
DAVENPORT -- Mary L. Ziemer, of Davenport, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, in Davenport. There are no planned services. Burial will be Monday at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. She was a homemaker. Mary Zbanek was born June 9, 1911, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married Arthur Fletcher Ziemer in 1936 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1992. Survivors include a niece, Mary Susan Wilson, and her husband, Ronald, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and grandnieces, Paige and Courtney Wilson.

Eva Hudson
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Eva Doris Hudson, of Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Viola City Cemetery . Mrs. Hudson died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at RiverPark HealthCare Center, Rock Island. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today. Eva Dawson was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Viola, Ill. She married Charles "Lou" Hudson in 1946 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death. She was employed at Modern Woodmen of America for many years until her retirement. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Humane Society. Survivors include a brother, Al Dawson, Menlo Park, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Marlene Dawson, Rock Island; three nieces and three nephews.

Tony James
BETTENDORF -- Memorial services for Tony James, of Bettendorf, formerly of San Diego, will be 7 p.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Mr. James passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at the home of his sister, Linda. He was born in Moline, the son of Arnold James and Mary Moentenich. He enjoyed poetry, had had a poem published and enjoyed collecting antiques. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his parents, Mary Moentenich, Bettendorf, and Arnold James, Proctor, Okla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Robert Surman, Richland, Wash.; a sister, Linda Hass, Bettendorf; a brother, James James, Anaheim, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Kay James, Moline; a brother, Arnold James, Rock Island; a sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Roy Garza, Moline; a sister, Dru Ross, Bettendorf; a sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Richard Buettner, Bettendorf; and a special friend, Jeffrey Jensen, San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cody James, in 1979.

Sara Chapman
DAVENPORT -- Sara J. Chapman, of Davenport died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Crest Health Care Center, Davenport. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery , Baldwin, Kan. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Sara Benton was born Jan. 17, 1909, in Weston, Mo., to Forrest and Mannie (Robbins) Benton. She married Joseph B. Chapman on June 24, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo. She had been employed at the Rock Island Arsenal as a clerk, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, June Cain and Frank, Hayward, Wis.; grandchildren, Jeff and Jonathan Cain, Hayward, and Jean Simpson, Altoona, Wis.; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

LaRue Scanlan
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for E. LaRue "Tiny" Scanlan, of Rock Island, formerly of Port Byron, Ill., will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Scanlan died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at his home. LaRue Williams was born Feb. 27, 1909, in Drakesville, Iowa. She married Carroll Scanlan in 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. He died in 1974. A memorial fund has been established.

Adolf Meyer
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Adolf Meyer, of Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. The Rev. Don Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal, with military rites accorded by Milan Legion/Veterans of Foreign War at 11:45 a.m. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Meyer died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He was born March 19, 1915, in New York, to Emil and Karoline (Gundelack) Meyer. He was a supply officer at Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 1303, Rock Island. During World War II, he served in the Army. There are no immediate survivors.

Morgan Resch
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Morgan E. Resch, of Rock Island, will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Morgan died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She was a second grade student at Eugene Field Elementary School, Rock Island. She was born March 29, 1991, in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the United Mitrochondrial Disease Foundation. Survivors include her parents, Richard and Rebecca (Libenguth) Resch; a brother, Steven at home; grandparents, Art and Evelyn, Libenguth, Muscatine, and Roberta (Resch) and Robert Blean, Goodyear, Ariz.; and a great-grandmother, Elsie Hines, Morrison.

Diane Hohl
MILAN, Ill. -- Services for Diane Hohl, of Milan, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Mrs. Hohl died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She had worked at the downtown Rock Island Walgreen Drug Stores, for 10 years. Diane Morgan was born Nov. 27, 1932, in Moline. She married Dale Hohl in 1950 in Moline. Memorial may be made to the church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Karen Hohl, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; sons, Glenn Hohl, Milan, Neal Hohl, Orion, and Patrick and Daniel Hohl, both of Milan; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sisters, Mary Leemans, Moline, Louise Barnett, Port Byron.

Lenore Ryan
DeWITT, Iowa -- Lenore M. Ryan, of DeWitt, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the Alverno Care Facility, Clinton. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Grand Mound. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Monday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a scripture services at 7 p.m. She was a teacher for 41 years in East Moline, Chicago, St. Mary's, Clinton, Tucson, Ariz., Colorado Springs, Colo., and Casper, Wyo. She was born Sept. 10, 1914, in Grand Mound. Survivors include a sister, Catherine Sleeper, Chaska, Minn.

Clarence Hepner
GALVA, Ill. -- Services for Clarence W. Hepner, of Galva, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery . Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Hepner died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg. He farmed north of Bishop Hill, retiring in 1985. He was born May 24, 1916, in Cambridge. He married Annie Smith in 1937 in Galva. Memorials may be made to Bishop Hill United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Linda Martin, Galva, and Claris Scott, Jupiter, Fla.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Kersey, Kewanee.

Harley Lorenson
MINERAL, Ill. -- Harley M. Lorenson, of Mineral, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mineral United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mineral Cemetery . Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at Sheffield Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Sheffield. He had farmed all of his life in the Mineral area. He was born Aug. 1, 1910, in Mineral Township, Bureau County. He married Wilma Humphreys in 1934 in Mineral. Memorials may be made to Mineral-Sheffield Rescue Unit or Mineral United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Flint, Mineral; sons, Roger, Sheffield, and Rodney, Ettrick, Wis.; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Edmund J. Arnould Jr.
DAVENPORT -- A Mass of the Resurrection for Edmund J. Arnould Jr., a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service and family rosary at 7 p.m. There will be an additional visitation 9 a.m. until services Tuesday at the church in the Gathering Space. Mr. Arnould died peacefully Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at his residence, following a brief illness. Edmund Joseph Arnould Jr. was born Feb. 24, 1924, the fourth generation of the Arnould family to be born in Davenport. He was son of Edmond Joseph and Mabel Helen (Smith) Arnould. He married Patricia Alene Tabor on Oct. 23, 1948, in Rock Island. Mr. Arnould attended the former St. Ambrose Academy, and graduated from St. Ambrose College with a bachelor of science degree in business. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps. Edmund was a pilot during this time and served as a flight officer in Central Flying Training Command. Following his honorable discharge, he maintained his commercial pilot's license for several years. Edmund founded the Arnould Sales Agency, Davenport, in 1964. He represented several manufacturing companies with multiple lines. He remained active until just recently due to his declining health. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, 45-year member of Rotary International, where he served as a probation officer representing Rotary, MANA (Manufacturers Agents National Association), of which he had been a past two-time board member, Quad-City Ad Club, Quarterback Club and the Rock Island Arsenal Club. He had also served as a volunteer worker for 25 years with the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Society. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church building fund of St. Paul the Apostle, Genesis Hospice, Our Lady of Victory Homes, New York, or a favorite charity. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patricia; a daughter, Sara Arnould, Golden, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and David Wood, Davenport; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Lyn Arnould, Brownsburg, Ind.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Koch, Humboldt, Iowa. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Aledo Spring.

James DeLap
MILAN, Ill. -- Services for James R. DeLap, of Milan, will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Keithsburg. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery , Keithsburg. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at Family Funeral Services, Aledo. Mr. DeLap died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. He was born Feb. 1, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Willard Sylvia (Barnette) DeLap. He married Beatrice Deahr on July 17, 1955, in Muscatine. He married Phylis Hines in 1958 in West Liberty. He was a self-employed contractor. He was a pilot and owned the Keithsburg Landing Strip. He was an avid skydiver and enjoyed many outdoor activities. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James DeLap Memorial Fund. Survivors include daughters, Cindy Small and Deborah Ness, both of Keithsburg, and Grace Ann Suhl, Wadena, Minn.; a son, J.R. DeLap, Cape Coral, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Deanna Ostrander and Terry Brady, both of Muscatine; and his partner for many years, Joanne Malcolm, Keithsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Wayne DeLap and Clyde Martin.
