Erik Anderson
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Erik J. Anderson, of Sherrard, formerly of Rock Island, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. The Rev. John Bray will officiate. Visitation is 11 a.m. until the time of services. The body has been cremated. Mr. Anderson died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He was a carpenter with Carpenters' Union Local 166. Erik was born Sept. 21, 1965, in Rock Island, the son of James W. and Suzanne (Darrell) Anderson. He had attended Memorial Heights United Methodist Church, Rock Island. He loved his dog, Buster, and enjoyed music, hunting and skiing. He also played the drums. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arrowhead Ranch, Coal Valley. Survivors include his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Kurt Love, Rock Island; a brother and sister-in-law, Scot and Barbara Anderson, Cobham Surrey, England; grandparents, Jewell and Ray Riley, Rock Island; and nieces and nephews, Zachary, Sarah and Katherine Anderson, and Taylor, Dalton and Hunter Love.

Grace Cheramy
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Grace Cheramy, of 1621 13th Ave. S., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Cheramy died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton. She worked at Rich Industries, Clinton Toy Factory, A&P Grocery Store and Clinton Engineering. She retired in 1967 from Collis Co., where she served as the treasurer of the union for four years of Collis Co. Grace Birkett was born March 21, 1907, in Kessic, England. She came to the United States with her parents and sisters in 1914 on the Lusitania. She married Albert Cheramy in 1923 in Clinton. He died in 1994. Survivors include twin daughters, Diane Royer, Dallas, and Lory Cramm, Clinton; a son, Gerald, Clinton; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Wilburn Sheets
LeCLAIRE, Iowa -- Services for Wilburn H. Sheets, of LeClaire, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Mr. Sheets died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at his home. He worked as a welder at John Deere, Planter and Plow Works, Moline, for more than 22 years, retiring in 1980. He was born April 8, 1918, in Agnes, Mo. He married Clara Davis in 1939. He married Bonnie Collins in 1961 in Bloomfield. She died in 1990. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Memorials may be made to the Genesis Oncology Unit. Survivors include daughters, Flossie "Frances" Stubblefield, West Sacramento, Calif., Mary Lou Shrum, Hackett, Ark., Carolyn Stogdill, Davenport, and Ethel May Black, Fort Smith, Ark.; sons, Wilburn "Bill," Knob, Noster, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eula Sweeny and Ruth Allen, both of O'Fallon, Mo.; and brothers, Loren, Kansas City, Kan., and Lowell and Bill, both of Lebanon, Mo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren, in December 1998, and a special friend, Martha "Mattie" Elverd, in February 1999.

Bernard Vogel
CAMANCHE, Iowa -- Services for Bernard H. Vogel, of 504 2nd St., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Camanche Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Camanche. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Vogel died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton. He had worked for Alcoa for 32 years as a machinist/fireman, retiring in 1983. He was born May 27, 1921, in Clinton. He married Mildred Mensinger in 1941 in Camanche. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Camanche. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Irene Lansing, Maquoketa; sons, David, Bernie and James, all of Camanche; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Robert Weatherly
MOLINE -- Robert Lee Weatherly, of Moline, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. He retired in 1985 as a spray painter from International Harvester, Farmall Works, Rock Island, after 35 years of service. He was born July 18, 1929, in Kingsport, Tenn. He married Violet Mae Miller in 1949 in Clinchport, Va. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice or the church. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Peggy Schneider, Silvis, Ill., Doris Nelson, Rock Island, and Beth Ann Morris, Davenport; a son, Dan, Milan, Ill.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Polly Murry, Kingsport; and a brother, Ray, Kingsport.

Mildred Benson
MORRISON, Ill. -- P. Mildred Benson, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the home. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Morrison, preceded by a family prayer service at 11:15 a.m. Burial will in Grove Hill Cemetery , Morrison. Visitation is 10:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. The Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mildred Benson was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Sterling. Memorials may be made to the church or American Cancer Society. Survivors include brothers, Herbert and George, both of Morrison.

Dale Christensen
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Dale E. Christensen, of 584 Forrest Road, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, Silvis. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Mr. Christensen died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at Illni Hospital, Silvis. He worked as a city engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island, from 1961-67. He was city engineer for East Moline from 1967-70. He joined The Schemmer Associates Inc., Bettendorf, on Oct. 15, 1973. In 1977, he was named an associate of the firm and managed the engineering staff at the firm for several years. He became operations vice president of the Quad-Cities office in July of 1979, a role he held for 19 years. In 1998 he became the principal/project manager and senior engineer. Dale was born April 20, 1936, in Gilmore, Iowa, the son of Everett and Dorothy (Hansen) Christensen. He married Ruth Perry on Dec. 21, 1957, in Silvis. He earned a B.S. in civil engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, in 1961, and was a registered land surveyor and professional engineer in Iowa and Illinois. Dale was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He served as the president of the Tri-City sector (1980-81), held offices and served on committees. He was a sustaining member representative for the Rock Island post of the Society of American Military Engineers. He also served as the society's president (1989-90), director and committee chair. Mr. Christensen served as a principal representative and state committee member for the American Consulting Engineers Council. He was active in the National Society of Professional Engineers, serving as a past president of the Iowa chapter, an officer and on committees for the society. He was also a member of the American Public Works Association where he achieved 25 years of service in 1999; the Iowa Professional Land Surveyors Association; and the Illinois Registered Land Surveyors Association. Dale was a past trustee and treasurer of his church and a former member of the United Township High School Board. He served the community as a civil engineering adviser to Iowa State University and as a volunteer citizen for the East Moline Grade School Facility Needs study. Other community service included Bettendorf Development Action Plan Task Force, Quad-City Development Group, Rotary International, Quad-Cities Chamber of Commerce and Bi-State Planning Committee groups. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a fund for his grandchildren or the church. Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law, Leah and Rick Wilson, Viola, and Carol and Brent Allmendinger, East Moline; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Kristene Christensen, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Andrew, Tyler, Cara, Bryan, Megan and Ian; his parents, Everett and Dorothy, East Moline; sisters, Beverly Christensen, Stuart, Fla., and Lila Cackrell, Brookfield, Fla.; and brothers, David Christensen, Johnson City, N.Y., and Dwayne Christensen, Valley Forge, Pa.

Lottie Alden
MAQUOKETA, Iowa -- Services for Lottie Alden, of Holyoke, Colo., formerly of Maquoketa, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Carson & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery , rural Maquoketa. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Alden died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Prairie Vista Care Center, Holyoke. Lottie Massey was born Sept. 2, 1898, in Crabtown. She married Orman Alden in 1916. He died in 1970. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Kropp, Holyoke; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Bailey, Dubuque; and a brother, Edgar Massey, Dubuque.

Kay Fantle Arkin
TAMPA, Fla. -- Services for Kay Fantle Arkin, of Tampa and Indian Shores, formerly of Davenport, were held Friday at Congregation Schaarai Zedek. Burial was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery , Tampa. Mrs. Arkin died Wednesday Oct. 20, 1999, at Tampa General Hospital. Beth David Chapel, Tampa, is in charge of arrangements. Kay Fantle was born in Yankton, S.D. She was a homemaker. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Florida Aquarium or Endowment Fund of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Survivors include daughters, Sandi Arkin Guilfoil, Minneapolis, and Karlie Arkin Burns, Los Altos, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Fantle Shimberg, Tampa.

Ruth Calkins
BETTENDORF -- Ruth M. Calkins, of Bettendorf, formerly of Yonkers, N.Y., died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at her home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery , Yonkers. There will be no visitation. McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, is in charge of arrangements. Ruth Sillman was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Yonkers. Memorials may be made to Vera French Mental Health Center, Davenport. Survivors include daughters, Jodi Watkins, Bettendorf, and Jill Wilyard, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; a sister, Mildred Fyfe, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and a brothers, Donald Sillman, Fishkill, N.Y., and John Sillman, Pembroke Pines, Fla.

Mable Cape
ERIE, Ill. -- Mable Louella Cape, of Erie, formerly of Carbon Cliff, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at her home. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Estates, Moline. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. She was manager at the Midway Inn, Carbon Cliff, and later was a sales associate at Younkers, Moline. She was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Freeport. She married Henry Badtke in 1941 in Missouri. He died in 1959. She married Delbert Cape in 1963 in Pearl City. He died in 1990. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Survivors include a daughter, Violet Johnston, Erie; a son, Ronald Badtke, Erie; a sister, Mary Ferry, East Moline; and a brother, Nelson Gatz, Moline; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Richard Carlson
DAVENPORT -- Military graveside services for Richard W. Carlson, of Dallas, formerly of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. There will be no visitation. The family requests that flowers not be sent. Mr. Carlson died Monday, Oct., 18, 1999, in Dallas. He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Bemidji, Minn. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion, both in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. Survivors include three daughters.

Mildred Coyne
MILAN, Ill. -- Services for Mildred M. Coyne, formerly of Milan, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Beulah Presbyterian Church, Orion. Burial will be in Preemption (Ill.) Cemetery . Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island, with an Eastern Star service at 6 p.m. Mrs. Coyne died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Mildred Johnston was born Feb. 6, 1904, on a farm in Bowling Township. She married Everett "Curly" Coyne in 1927 in Edgington. He died in 1985. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include sons, Kenneth and Wayne, both of Milan; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys Decker
FULTON, Ill. -- Services for Gladys G. Decker, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Fulton Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery , Fulton. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a 5 p.m. vigil service. Mrs. Decker died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the nursing home. She was employed at the former Patent Novelty Co., Fulton, and most recently, as a nurses aid for Harbor Crest Nursing Home. Gladys Bennett was born July 18, 1914, in Fulton. She married Robert Decker in 1936 in Fulton. He preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy White, Morrison, and Janice Ottens, Fulton; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emma Jane Hawk, Albany.

Margaret George
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Margaret George, of 1000 N. 13th St., formerly of 1140 Briar Cliff, will be 10:30 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. George died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton. She had been employed at Curtis Co. And at the Alverno. She retired from Jane Lamb Hospital in 1985 after 10 years of service. Margaret Rannfeldt was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Clinton. She married Paul George in 1939 in Clinton. He died in 1969. Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Quick, Clinton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Bray-Naftzger, Low Moor; and brothers, Lee Rannfeldt, Clinton, and Ronald Rannfeldt, Bryant.

Hazel Hatfield
MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. -- Hazel Mae Hatfield, of Mount Carroll, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Monday at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll, followed by a graveside service and interment at Savanna Township Cemetery , Savanna. Hazel worked in the housekeeping department at Shimer College, Mount Carroll, for many years. She always made her home with her niece, Sandy Rose, Mount Carroll. Hazel Hatfield was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Savanna. Suvivors included brothers, George Hatfield, Tomah, Wis., James Hatfield, Silver Hill, Alabama, and Larry Hatfield, Quitman, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Norma Hunter
DAVENPORT --Norma L. Hunter, of Davenport, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron, Ill. Norma Cruickshank was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo. She married Bernie Hunter in 1964 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tom Hicks, Davenport, with whom she resided, and Kathryn Harris, Oklahoma; a son, Keith Arthur, California; step-sons, Carl and Richard Hunter; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
