ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Helen L. Foss, of Rock Island, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a 6 p.m. wake service. Mrs. Foss died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She had been an inspector and tester for Servus Rubber, Rock Island, for 26 years, retiring in 1976. Helen Koehler was born June 22, 1910, in Rock Island. She married Palmer Foss in 1934 in Clinton. He died in 1994. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund. Survivors include sons, Edwin Foss, Rock Island, Robert and Donald Foss, both of Milan, and James Foss, Taylor Ridge, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary McClarion, Moline, and Katherine Hope, Holt, Mo.; and a brother, John Koehler, Holt.

David Hemm
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Services for David E. Hemm, of Des Moines, formerly of the Quad-Cities, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, Ill. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Mr. Hemm died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, after an extended illness. He had worked as a manager at Moline Tool and Print Shop. He was born June 17, 1955, in Moline. A memorial fund will be established. Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl Rugama, Des Moines; two grandchildren; his mother, Verna Decker Hemm, East Moline; a sister, Ruth Buckallew, East Moline; and a brother, Don, Moline.

Karen Falwell
MURRAY, Ky. -- Services for Karen S. Falwell, of Murray, will be 1:30 p.m. today at J. H. Churchill Funeral Home, Murray. Burial will be in Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held at the funeral home. Mrs. Falwell died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Murray-Calloway County Hospital. She was a teacher at North Calloway Elementary School. She was born April 26, 1945. She married Jerry Falwell in 1989. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. Survivors include her husband, Jerry; daughters, Karrie Goetz, Murray, and Kemberly Sanderson and Jill Mathis, both Memphis; a son, Timothy Falwell, Murray; three grandchildren; a stepfather, Marshall Lesser, Bettendorf; a sister, Pam Hunt, Rock Island; and brothers, Richard Strauch, Tucson, Ariz., and Paul Lesser, of California.

Maria Proa
MOLINE -- Services for Maria E. Proa, of Moline, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, Moline. A prayer service will be 9:30 a.m. prior to services at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a rosary at 5 p.m. Mrs. Proa died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She was employed at Norcross Safety Products, Rock Island, in the human resources department. Maria Rosas was born May 27, 1960, in Moline. She married Jose Proa in 1980 in Morelia Mich., Mexico. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Cynthia Proa, sons, Jose and Juan Proa, all at home; parents Otilio and Maria Rosas, of Mexico; sisters, Patricia Cruz and Sandra Rosas, both of Mexico, Irasema Rosas, and Angelica Rosas, both of Fort Worth, Texas; and brothers, Miguel Rosas and Otilio Rosas, both of Princeton, Ill., and Luis Rosas, Fort Worth.

Norma Hunter
DAVENPORT -- Norma L. Hunter, of Davenport, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron, Ill. Norma Cruickshank was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo. She married Bennie Hunter in 1964 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tom Hicks, Davenport, with whom she resided, and Kathryn Harris, Oklahoma; a son, Keith Arthur, California; stepsons, Carl and Richard Hunter; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

Margaret Lindsay
MARTHA'S VINEYARD, Mass. -- Margaret S. Lindsay, of Martha's Vineyard, formerly of Davenport, died Oct. 17, 1999, at her home. A gathering in remembrance of Margaret will take place in Boston. She was born in Davenport on Dec. 11, 1937, the daughter of Edwin B. and Elizabeth S. Lindsay. Her great-grandfather, James E. Lindsay, donated Lindsay Park to the city of Davenport. Margaret Lindsay graduated from Davenport High School, the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio, and Columbia Teachers College, New York City. She lived for many years in Boston, where she played an active role in the life of the city. She is survived by her sister, Anne Morton, San Francisco; her brother, James Lindsay, Dubuque; a great-aunt, Mollie Montgomery, Rock Island; and four nieces and nephews.

Richard Carlson
DAVENPORT -- Military graveside services for Richard W. Carlson, of Dallas, formerly of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. There will be no visitation. The family requests that flowers not be sent. Mr. Carlson died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, in Dallas. He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Bemidji, Minn. He was a member of the Elks and American Legion, both in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen. Survivors include three daughters.

Rita Gertrude Pottratz
NEW ALBIN, Iowa -- Services for Rita Gertrude Pottratz, of New Albin, will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Albin. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at New Albin Town Hall. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home, Prairie Du Chien, Wis., is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Pottratz died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Thorton Manor Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Rita O'Donnell was born Feb. 27, 1914, in Churchtown, to Gertrude Deeney and James O'Donnell. She attended the town schools. She married Floyd Pottratz on Feb. 28, 1933, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lycurgas. They established their home in New Albin. She was very active in the community, mainly with the Rosary Society, VFW, Senior Citizens and was a county volunteer for many years. She was a source of strength to her family, friends and community. The family would like to remember "she made a difference." Survivors include her husband, Floyd; daughters, Angela Lager, North Mankato, Minn., Becky Andresen, Eldridge, and Christy Lampert, New Albin; sons, Tom Pottratz, Indianapolis, Lloyd Pottratz, Davenport; Bob Pottratz, Melrose, Minn., and Dennis Pottratz, Decorah; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Hansen, Manitowoc, Wis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Troendle, and Dorothy Knuppe. May they rest in peace.

Warren Way
UTICA, Ill. -- Services for Warren F. Way, of Utica, formerly of the Henry and Varna areas, were held Thursday at Antioch Christian Cemetery , Toluca. Winterrowd-Hagi Funeral Home, Streator, was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Way died Oct. 15, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator. He was self-employed contractor. He was born Dec. 13, 1932, in LaSalle. He married Ruby Tablock in 1976. She died in 1990. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Taylor, Deland, Fla.; sons, Raymond, Wray, Ga., Bryan, Mashpee, Mass., and Stuart, Deland; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Yvonne Shaw, Davenport; and a half brother, James Hanson, Ridgeview, Iowa.

Robert Lovett
TAYLOR RIDGE, Ill. -- Services for Robert A. Lovett, of Taylor Ridge, will be noon Tuesday at the National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. The Milan American Legion Post 569 will accord military honors. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Lovett died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, in Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley. He retired from International Harvester Farmall Works, Rock Island, in 1985, after 20 years of employment as a skilled carpenter. He was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Milan. He married Clarice Winner in 1945 in Rock Island. During World War II, he served in the Navy. During the Korean War, he served in the Army. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island County "No Kill" Animal Shelter. Survivors include his wife, Clarice; a son, Robert II, both of Taylor Ridge; two grandsons; a sister, Helen Hoover, Bettendorf; and a brother, Merle, Milan.

Shirley Leasch
BURLINGTON, Iowa -- Services for Shirley J. Leasch, of Burlington, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Burlington. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park. Visitation is 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Hass Funeral Home, Burlington, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Leasch died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. Shirley Lihs was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Cairo, Iowa. She married Richard Leasch in 1959 in Quincy. He died in 1988. She was a homemaker. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include a daughter, Doddie Burgus, Mediapolis; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Samuels and Wanda Marshall, both of Wapello, Peggy Lowary, Webster City, and Baja Brown, Princeton, Iowa; and brothers, Dean Lihs, Bellville, Ill., Jackie Lihs, Cairo, and Donald Lihs, Columbus Junction.

Dale Clark
CAMANCHE, Iowa -- Services for Dale "Babe" Clark, of Camanche, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Camanche Chapel, Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory, Camanche. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Camanche. Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the chapel. Mr. Clark died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Clinton Campus. He had worked for the Curtis Company, Clinton, for 25 years. He also worked for General Electric, Morrison, Ill., for 18 years, as a forklift operator. He retired in 1985. He was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Camanche. He married Betty Sanders in 1946 in Clinton. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Medical Corps. He also served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and Burma. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Survivors include sons, Alan and David, both of Clinton, and Randy, Easton, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd, of Clinton.

Raymond Langan
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Raymond C. Langan, of Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Prince of Parish Sacred Heart Church, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. today at DeLaney-Vulich Funeral Home, Clinton, where a vigil services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Mr. Langan died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center, North Clinton Campus. He had employed at Clinton National Bank and Sears Roebuck Company. He was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Clinton. During World War II, he served in the Army in the South Pacific. Survivors include brothers, Daniel, Clinton, and Joseph, Redondo Beach, Calif.

Jewell Watkins
MOLINE -- Private services for Jewell Watkins, will be Wednesday at the Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, Ill. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Watkins died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at her home. She had worked for Servus Rubber, Rock Island. Jewell Bilderback was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Sikeston, Mo. She married Woodrow Watkins in 1939 Muscatine. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church, Silvis. Survivors include a son, William Watikins, Pleasant Valley, Iowa; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Olson, Chula Vista, Calif.; and a brother, William Bilderback, Humboldt, Iowa.

Roger Lewis
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Roger E. Lewis, Muscatine, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Lewis died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at his home. He was employed as a mechanic for many years. Mr. Lewis was born April 20, 1938, in Muscatine. He married Mary Ford in 1969. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel, Muscatine; a stepdaughter, Diana Ingelby, Knoxville, Tenn., stepsons, David and Douglas Bunn, both of Muscatine; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Blanche Lewis, Muscatine; sisters, Marlene Willson, of Indiana, and Barbara IIjelle, of Pennsylvania; and a brother Harry, of Georgia.

EAST MOLINE -- Services for Laurence "Bud" L. Wangelin, of East Moline, 11 a.m. Wednesday at Green Rock Free Will Baptist Church, Colona, Ill. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery , Ill. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Wangelin died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill. He was employed as an iron pourer at John Deere Foundry, East Moline, for 33 years, retiring in 1985. He was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Marion, Ill. He married Virginia Giesenhagen in 1969 in New London, Wis. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Memorials may be made to Freewill Baptist Church, Colona. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; daughters, Cindy Dickman, Jackson, Mo., Lisa Huizenga, Norwalk, Wis., and Betty Head, St. Joseph, Mo.; sons, Charles, East Moline, Larry, Hampton, Laurence Jr., Pittsburgh, Greg, St. Louis, and James McNew, Des Moines; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Behnke, New London; and a brother, Edward, Appleton, Wis.

DAVENPORT -- Services for Margaret Pauline Webster, a resident of Davenport, formerly of Park View, Iowa, and Keokuk, Iowa, will be 6 p.m. today at Park View United Methodist Church, where she attended. Pastor Ruth Ann Scott will officiate. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Keokuk National Cemetery . Pastor William Mitchell will officiate. There will be no visitation. Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Webster died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Margaret Pauline Hoewing was born Dec. 7, 1913, in Gregory, Mo., to Harry and Clara (Reed) Hoewing. She married Ryan Webster on Jan. 19, 1935, in Keokuk. He preceded her in death May 11, 1983. She graduated from Gem City Business College, Keokuk, and was a member of the First Christian Church, Keokuk. Memorials may be made to the Park View United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Steve Connors, Davenport; her granddaughter, Amanda Connors, Davenport; and sisters, Helen Campell, Canton, Mo., and Ruth Schreck, Kahoka, Mo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Connors; a sister; and her parents.
