MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Brittany Louise Knox-year-old daughter of Sarah Knox and Ellis Adams, both of Muscatine, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Island Cemetery , Fruitland. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Brittany was in kindergarten at Madison Elementary School, Muscatine. Brittany was born March 25, 1994, in Muscatine. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a half brother, Dallas Adams, Muscatine; grandparents Michael and Gailene Adams and Helma and Carl Warnstaff, all of Muscatine, and Steven Knox, Wapello; and great-grandparents, Virgil Smith, Muscatine, and Sarah Knox, of Ohio.

Jo Carroll
ORION, Ill. -- Services for Jo A. Carroll, of Orion, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Burial will be in Western Cemetery , Orion. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Carroll died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. She was employed as a scheduler at Olsten Home Health Care. She was employed last in 1997. Jo Craig was born Aug. 4, 1937, in Sterling. Memorials may be made to John and Mary Pappajohn Cancer Center at University Hospitals, Iowa City. Survivors include daughters, Debbi Taube, Orion, and Dawn Cook, Woodstock; a son, Craig Atwell, Morrisville, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Linda Schlimmer
TIPTON, Iowa -- Linda A. Schlimmer, of 1005 Delta Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will be in Shawver Cemetery , Tipton. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Schlimmer was employed as a waitress and nurse's aide. Linda Thomas was born April 7, 1956, in Greenville, N.C. She married Michael Schlimmer in 1977 in Lisbon. Memorials may be made to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Research.. Survivors include her husband; her father and stepmother, Lee and Marie Thomas, Las Vegas; a sister, Elaine Jones, Dover, N.C.; a stepsister, Loretta Snyder, New Bern, N.C.; a brother, Robert Thomas, Black Foot, Idaho; and a stepbrother, Marvin Haddock, New Bern.

James Quinn, 83
HAMPTON, Ill. -- James T. Quinn, of Hampton, was killed Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, crossing Illinois 84 in front of his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rapids City. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery , Rapids City, with military services by East Moline American Legion Post 227 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2056. Visitation will be 3-5 and 5:30-8 p.m. Friday at the church, with a rosary at 4:45 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary Ltd., East Moline, is in charge of arrangements. Jim and his wife, Sally, owned and operated Quinn Pharmacy in Hampton from 1955 to 1970. He "retired" to manage their rental property. His second career began in 1978, when he and his family opened Quinn Qarousel Restaurant in Hampton. He "retired" in 1983 when the restaurant was closed. His third career began in 1995 when Quinn Servistar Hardware was opened. He helped manage the store with his daughter, Michaela VanDieren. He was born Nov. 4, 1916, in Georgetown, Iowa, to John and Emma (Campbell) Quinn. He married Salomea (Sally) F. Landd on June 7, 1947, in East Moline. He earned his bachelor's degree in liberal arts from St. Ambrose College in 1941 and his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from Drake University in 1951. He was a World War II veteran. He ran the Armed Force Radio in Assam, India. He was active in the Iowa Basha of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association, where he served as state chaplain. He was a member of Port Byron American Legion and VFW of East Moline. Mr. Quinn was ordained in 1992 as a permanent deacon in the Peoria Diocese. He served both St. John's and St. Mary's churches. He was a member of St. Mary's Church since 1951. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Loras Assembly, Davenport; and Leo Council, Carbon Cliff, and a member of Serra Club (an organization that prays for vocations). He was a rotarian in the East Moline Club and had perfect attendance from the time he joined in the 1960s. He also served as president of the club. He was instrumental in establishing the River Cities Rotary Club, Rapids City, and Sunrise Rotary Club, Coal Valley. Jim served as a member of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and retired as captain in 1983. He also was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and served on several committees in the Hampton Historical Society. Mr. Quinn served on the original board in 1964 that was instrumental in forming Illini Hospital, where he served chairman of the board from 1980 to 1983. He also served as a volunteer EMT for Illini Hospital in the 1970s. He was mayor of Hampton in the sixties and was so proud of the 1963 Quarsquicentennial Celebration of the village. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Hampton; St. Ambrose University, Davenport; Hampton Historical Society; or a favorite charity. Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law, Michaela and John VanDieren, Hampton, and Maritia and Ronn Griffith, Moline; a daughter, Monica, Hampton; grandchildren, Monica, Michael, Jonna and Jim VanDieren, and Maggie, Sam and Drake Griffith; and many nieces and nephews. His parents and all seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Harold 'Babe' Thordsen, 92
DAVENPORT -- Services for Harold A. "Babe" Thordsen, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, with members of the Davenport Police Department serving as Honor Guard. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Mr. Thordsen died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Grandview Terrace, Davenport. He joined the Davenport Police Department in the 1930s, where he worked for more than 18 years. He was one of the organizers of the first Davenport police detective bureau and also of the first Dad's Club (at Monroe School), serving as its first president. He was the first Davenport police officer to attend the FBI's National Police Academy in Washington, D.C. When he graduated in 1942, Mr. Thordsen personally received his diploma from J. Edgar Hoover. Mr. Thordsen was chief of detectives for the Davenport Police Department. As a state legislator in the early 1970s, he was chairman of the Law Enforcement Committee and largely responsible for creation of Iowa's first Law Enforcement Academy in Des Moines. He also played a key role in introducing a bill in the Iowa legislature to legalize bingo. After leaving the Iowa Legislature, Babe and his wife owned and operated a Wisconsin Dells, Wis., resort for four years. Mr. Thordsen also worked as a real estate broker for Mel Foster Co., Davenport, for more than nine years. He was born Sept. 25, 1907, in Davenport, to Jess and Hazel (Wade) Thordsen. He married Reva Ashcraft in 1928 in Davenport. She died in 1964. He then married Ruby McKinney in 1964 in Davenport. She died in 1990. He married Carolyn Bertram in 1994 in Bondurant, Iowa. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Mr. Thordsen played pro football with the Moline Indians for four seasons and founded and was past president of the Davenport Alumni Diamond Ball Association. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Davenport; Royal Neighbors of America; or Davenport Police Retirement Fund. Pallbearers include Charles Palmer, Ann Woods, Sarah Misener, Joe Arnold, Dustin Simms, Daniel Simms, Forest Ashcraft, James McKinney, Bud Murray and Sherman Weber. Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Jerry and Vicki Thordsen, Bondurant, Jim and Marsha McKinney, Eldridge, Iowa, and Lt. Col. Joseph and Ann Arnold, Price George, Va.; a daughter, Pat (Thordsen) Simms, Madison, Wis.; daughters and sons-in-law, Nadine and Charles Palmer, Peoria, Ill., and Nancy and Ronald Pike, Waynesboro, Pa.; 24 grandchildren; 46 great- grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marsha Bogue, Tucson, Ariz., and Honey Weber, Davenport; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Kelly Thordsen; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

Lillian Feeney
DAVENPORT -- Memorial services for Lillian M. Feeney, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. In keeping with her wishes, the body has been donated to the University of Iowa, Department of Anatomy, Iowa City. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with prayers recited at 7 p.m. Mrs. Feeney died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Kahl Home for the Aged, Davenport. Lillian Margaret Heitz was born Aug. 21, 1912, in Rock Island, to Theodore and Mary (Raymond) Heitz. She married Edward L. Feeney on June 28, 1934, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. He died Jan. 3, 1992. She was a consummate homemaker and a devoted mother of nine children. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella and served as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. Her hobbies included bowling, knitting and duplicate bridge. Memorials may be made to Kahl Home for the Aged or American Diabetes Association. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Frank Cassady, Arlington Heights, Ill., Shelia and Mel Leskenin, Anchorage, Alaska, Rita and James Goggins, Ashburn, Va., Kate and Robert Bastain, Sycamore, Ill., and Sarah Hitch, Tulsa, Okla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Feeney, Dunedin, Fla., and Patrick and Suzan Feeney and Matthew W. and Mary Feeney, all of Davenport; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Feeney, in 1984; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Feeney, in 1999; two sisters; and three brothers.

Glenn Antrim
DAVENPORT -- Memorial services for Glenn H. Antrim, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Koning Chapel at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport. No public visitation will be held. Private burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Mr. Antrim died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Crest Health Center, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. He retired six weeks ago as a practicing patent attorney in Davenport, where his wife, Marjorie, was his legal assistant for many years. He was born Jan. 22, 1915, in Hastings, Iowa, to George and Nellie (Shannon) Antrim. He married Marjorie L. Ives on Dec. 9, 1939, in Des Moines. She died Dec. 3, 1997. He was a member of the Institute of Electronics & Engineering, St. John's United Methodist Church, Illinois and Iowa bar associations and Davenport Rotary Club. His real love was writing and prosecuting patents in the field of electronics. He built his first television set in 1947. Memorials may be made to Davenport Rotary Scholarship and Loan Fund. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Richard L. and Sunday Antrim, Solon, Iowa, and Robert H. and Jody Antrim, Rochester, Ill.; grandchildren, Susan Swartz and Alicia, Emily and Kristin Antrim; sisters, Louise Haack, Glenwood, Iowa, and Lucille Fichter, Shenandoah, Iowa; and brother, Harold Antrim, Los Angeles.

Jerry' Ortega
DAVENPORT -- Services for Gerardo "Jerry" Ortega, of Davenport, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday with a prayer services at 7:30 p.m. at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Jerry died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ill., after an automobile accident Oct. 18 near Peoria. He was a sophomore at the University of Iowa, studying theater and music. He was active in the Theatrical Department and with the Old Gold Singers, both at the university. He was a very talented young man. He was born Aug. 6, 1980, in Mexico, to Armando and Margarita (Ruiz-Velasco) Ortega. He was graduated in 1997 from Davenport West High School. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include brothers, Armando Jr., Orlando, Fla., and Ricky, Davenport; and grandmothers, Carmen Ortega and Lupita Ruiz-Velasco, both of Mexico; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Frederick Proksch
PEORIA, Ill. -- Frederick D. "Fred" Proksch, of Garner, N.C., formerly of Peoria and Raleigh, N.C., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Peoria. The body will be cremated. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, Peoria. Mr. Proksch died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in Raleigh. He was employed 37 years as an engineer at Caterpillar Inc., Clayton. He was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Davenport. He married Patricia "Pat" Warnke. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Penny Griffith, Peoria; sons, Mike, Peoria, and Kendall, San Rafael, Calif.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Sandy Bramstedt, Walcott, Iowa.

Darla Hendricks
DAVENPORT -- Services for Darla R. Hendricks, of Davenport, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Mrs. Hendricks died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Bettendorf Health Care Center. Darla Kiefer was born Jan. 16, 1955, in South Dakota. She married Kevin Hendricks in 1978 in Nevada, Mo. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include daughters, Heather Hendricks, Moline, Kim Bukowski, Rantoul, Ill., and Tammy Hendricks, Curryville, Mo.; a son, David Kuester, Stanton, Neb.; a sister, Donna Stenak, Omaha, Neb.; and brothers, Larry Kiefer, Lebo, Kan., and Jerry Kiefer, St. Cloud, Minn.

Ireta Maddalozzo
MOLINE --Ireta E. Maddalozzo, of Moline, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at her home. Visitation is 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Randolph Funeral Home, Seymour, Iowa. Additional visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery , Seymour. Mrs. Maddalozzo was a beautician from 1939 to 1951 in Chicago. Ireta Vail was born May 31, 1918, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She married Leo Maddalozzo in 1939 in Sadalia, Mo. He died in 1983. A memorial fund will be established. Survivors include daughters, Lynn Deering and Marie Maddalozzo, both of Moline; two grandchildren; and sisters, Vada Nelson, Irving, Texas, Hazel Johnson, West Tawakoni, Texas, and Ilda Herrmann, Blue Rapids, Kan.

Annis Brannen
MOLINE -- Services for Annis R. "Ann" Brannen, of Moline, formerly of Beloit, Wis., will be 10 a.m. Monday at First United Presbyterian Church, Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Mrs. Brannen died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was employed as a secretary 21 years for the city of Moline. She retired in 1983. Annis Cranston was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Beloit. She married Legrand "Lee" Brannen in 1946 in Beloit. Memorials may be made to the church or Bethany Home. Survivors include her husband; sons, Jim, San Diego, and Richard, Moline; four grandchildren; and sisters, Bernice Hayes, East Lansing, Mich., Norma Schuele, Milwaukee, and Helen Simonds, Beloit.

HILLSDALE, Ill. -- Services for Leland Riewerts, of Hillsdale, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church, Port Byron. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery , Port Byron. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Mr. Riewerts died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. He was a farmer. He was born July 6, 1916, in Hillsdale. He married Laura Hines in 1941 in Hillsdale. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Marvin, Hillsdale; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Parker, Moline, Mildred Woodburn, Port Byron, and Delma Waline, East Moline; and brothers, Roger, Loveland, Colo., and Wayne, Hillsdale.

Frank Mortell
MILAN, Ill. -- Frank A. Mortell, of Milan, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. The Rev. Thomas Green will officiate. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal, with military services by Milan Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation is 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Mortell was employed at Rock Island Arsenal in roads and grounds. He retired June 9, 1978. He was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Davenport, to George and Margaret (Wilson) Mortell. He married Ellen Winters on Nov. 3, 1948, in Rock Island. During World War II, he served in the Army. He was a former member of Milan Legion and VFW. He enjoyed small engine repair. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Margaret Ann Reese and Carol J. Johnson, both of Milan; sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford Wilson, Andalusia, Frank Mortell Jr. and Quinette, Arvada, Colo., Gary Lee Mortell, Rock Island, and Robert E. and Rose Mortell, Milan; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rachel Green, Des Moines, and Susan Slazack, of Indiana; and a brother, George Mortell. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Clarence Wilson, in 1988; a grandson, Clarence Wilson Jr., in 1994; a great-grandson, Jeremy Wilson; and several brothers and sisters.

EAST MOLINE -- Services for Dale E. Winner, of East Moline, will be 10 a.m. today at Carbon Cliff, Ill., Cemetery . Visitation is 9-9:30 a.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Winner died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He had worked many years at Skills Inc., Moline. He was born March 14, 1926, in Tallula, Ill. Survivors include a niece, Lynn Lovett, and a nephew, Bobby Lovett, both of Taylor Ridge, Ill.

Jesse Cady
HAMPTON, Ill. -- Jesse W. Cady, a former Hampton resident, passed away the morning of Nov. 9, 1999, in Hinsdale. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hampton Township Cemetery . Those wishing to attend may join a family gathering at the Hampton Methodist Church during the hour preceding the graveside services. Born Oct. 22, 1919, in Millersburg, Ill., he attended East Moline public schools and was a graduate of Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa. Jesse served three years in the U.S. Merchant Marines and Naval Reserve during World War II. He worked at International Harvester and Sears, Roebuck and Co. He was an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for many years. Retiring in 1983, he became an active member of the Hinsdale American Association of Retired Persons, a volunteer Meals-at-Your-Door driver, a senior reader at Oak Elementary School in Hinsdale and was a member of the Hampton Historical Society. He is survived by his wife, Charmian (Cox); children, Michael, Jeffery and Jane Cady; and grandchildren, Matthew, Bryan and Daniel Cady.

Betty Workman
MORRISON, Ill. -- Services for Betty L. Workman, of 411 W. Park St., will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Visitation is 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery , Morrison. Mrs. Workman died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her home. She had worked at Liquid Carbonics and then at General Electric Co., Morrison. Betty Rick was born May 21, 1927, in Freeport. She married Robert Houseman in 1951 in Sterling. He died in 1972. She married Ronald Workman in 1974 in Clinton, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Denise Houseman, Brockton, Mass.; stepdaughters, Barbara Heusinkveld, The Villages, Fla., Marilyn Lamb, Sterling, and Gloria Carroll, Morrison; a stepson, Michael, Brownsville, Texas; three grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a number of step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Luella Alexander, Port Byron, and Alda Borowicz, Fruitland Park, Fla.; and brothers, Donald Rick, Gainesville, Fla., and Harry Rick, Morrison.
