MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Terry J. Chick, of Muscatine, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery , Muscatine. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Chick was employed the past 17 years as a car salesman in the Muscatine area, including Toyota of Muscatine. He was born Dec. 6, 1958, in Waverly, N.Y. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his parents, Rudolph and Frances Chick Sr., Muscatine; a sister, Ann Chick, Muscatine; and brothers, Rudolph Jr., Glenwood, Richard, Letts, and Danny Sr. and Dennis, both of Muscatine.

Bryce Gruenwald
LOST NATION, Iowa -- Services for Bryce Thomas Gruenwald, son of Lisa and Thomas Gruenwald, of Lost Nation, will be 10:30 a.m. today at Lost Nation Cemetery . Bryce Thomas was stillborn Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. Hayden Funeral Home, Lost Nation, is in charge of arrangements. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a sister, Halie Gruenwald, Lost Nation; grandparents, Greg and Rae Guidebeck, Bettendorf, and Paula Gruenwald and Ronald Gruenwald, both of Lost Nation; and great-grandmothers, Bernice Gruenwald, Lost Nation, and Myrtle Wright, Maquoketa.

Mary Shanks
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Mary D. Shanks, of the Alverno Health Care Facility, formerly of 523 7th Ave. S., Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Monday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory, Clinton, with a vigil at 5 p.m. and a PEO service at 6 p.m. Mrs. Shanks died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton. She retired in 1982 as a secretary after more than 30 years at DuPont. Mary Davies was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Clinton. She married Morris Shanks in 1948 in Clinton. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Lyerly, Lincolnshire, Ill.; two grandsons; and sisters, Joann Davies, Denver, and Eleanor Fowler, South Hadley, Mass.

Ellen Gall
CHARITON, Iowa -- Memorial services Ellen L. Gall, of Smithville, Texas, formerly of LeClaire and Burlington, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Chariton Cemetery . Mrs. Gall died Nov. 11, 1999, at St. David's Hospital, Austin, Texas, of respiratory failure. Fielding Funeral Home, Charitan, is in charge of arrangements. She was employed as a cake decorator. Ellen DeGolier was born April 29, 1945, in Des Moines. She married David Gall. He died in 1992. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include her companion, Thomas Schmidt, Smithville; daughters, Valarie Buckner and Tracy Hobby, both of Burlington, and Cindy Twyman, Smithville; 10 grandchildren; her father, Fenton "Barney" DeGolier, Smithville; sisters, Patricia Wright, Houston, Mary Hoxsey, Harker Heights, Texas, Barbara Stevens, Muna, and Cynthia Davidson, Albia; half sisters, Debbie Price-Stone and Pamela Price, both of Omaha, Neb.; and brothers, Clyde Thomas Jr., Baltimore, John Thomas, of Oklahoma, and Patrick and Larry Thomas, both of Altoona.

Edith Williams
ALEDO, Ill. -- Edith E. Williams, of Aledo, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in Aledo cemetery. Edith Spence was born March 14, 1904, in Mercer County. She married George Williams in 1927 in Aledo. He died in 1984. Memorials may be made to Aledo United Methodist Church or Mercer County Nursing Home. Survivors include a grandson; and sisters, Florence Ranney, Aledo, and Mary Reed, Moline.

Casey Ahrens
DeWITT, Iowa -- Services for Casey P. Ahrens, of DeWitt, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, Toronto. The Rev. Richard Poster will officiate. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery , Toronto. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today at Chapman Funeral Home, Wheatland. Mr. Ahrens died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, from injuries received in a recreational vehicle accident in Big Rock. He was a screen printer and artist at Go Van Gohs print shop in DeWitt. He was born Nov. 5, 1976, in Clinton, to Patrick and Angela (Cavey) Ahrens. He was a 1995 graduate of Calamus-Wheatland High School. Survivors include his mother, Angela Cavey and friend John Wagner, DeWitt; his father, Patrick and wife Laura Ahrens, Wheatland; sisters, Katie Ahrens, Dixon, and Kelli Ahrens, DeWitt; a stepbrother, Nathan Peden, Wheatland; his grandparents, Robert and Jeanene Cavey, Wheatland; his grandfather, Ellis Ahrens, New Liberty; and a special friend, Amy Petersen, DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Della Ahrens.

Alice Plambeck
DAVENPORT -- Services for Alice A. Plambeck, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Mrs. Plambeck died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Davenport Good Samaritan Center. She was employed as a bartender at the Happy Hollow Tavern. Alice Suhr was born Dec. 22, 1915, in Stockton, Iowa, to Gus and Matilda (Mueller) Suhr. She married Ervin Plambeck on March 31, 1934, in Davenport. He died April 18, 1993. She was a member of Davenport Eagles 235, Northwest Turners Auxiliary and Mohassan Cauldron. Memorials may be made to Davenport Good Samaritan Center. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and James Spitzmiller, Blue Grass, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Evie Plambeck, Davenport; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Schmidt, of Florida.

Daniel Frank Sr.
MILAN, Ill. -- Services for Daniel E. Frank Sr., of Milan, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is two hours before the service. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal, with military services by Milan American Legion Post 569. Mr. Frank died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He owned and operated the former Superior Decorator, Rock Island, for 30 years. He retired in 1988. He was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Bushnell, Ill. He married Esther Hendrickson in 1947 in Macomb. She died in 1962. During World War II, he served with the Army in the European and Pacific theaters. He received the Bronze Star. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Smith, Athens, Ill.; sons, Daniel Jr., Davenport, and Michael, Taylor Ridge, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Frank, Rock Island.

Edmond Metz
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Edmond "Tiny" Metz, formerly of 807 Broadway St., will be 10:30 a.m. today at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park, with military services by the combined squads of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Metz died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Muscatine County Residential Facilities. He retired in 1980 as a machinist after 34 years at HON Co. He was born June 2, 1918, in Muscatine. He married Helen Martin in 1947 in Muscatine. During World War II, he served with the Army in the South Pacific. He was involved with five major battles in Saipan, Leyte, Okinawa, Titian and Wendora. Memorials may be made to Muscatine County Humane Society or Parkinson's Research Foundation. Survivors include his wife; and brothers, Edward P. and Leroy E., both of Muscatine.

John Rushman Sr.
BETTENDORF -- Services for John I. "Jack" Rushman Sr., of Bettendorf, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Davenport Memorial Park. No visitation will be held. Mr. Rushman died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Bettendorf Healthcare Center. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. He was employed more than 20 years as a coal hauler. He retired in 1989. He was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Oklahoma. He married Cecelia Swobda in 1955 in Davenport. She died in 1989. Survivors include daughters, Ruth Ann, of Wisconsin, Rita and Carol, both of Davenport, and Beverly, of Muscatine, Iowa; sons, Jeffrey and Ronnie Gene, both of Wisconsin, Donald, John and Steve, all of Davenport, and John Jr., Barstow, Ill.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maurice Michel
MOLINE -- Memorial services for Maurice R. Michel, of Moline, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Moline. Visitation is after the service at the church. Private burial will be later in South English, Iowa, Cemetery . Mr. Michel died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, in Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is in charge of arrangements. He was employed 33 years in industrial engineering at Deere and Co., Moline. He retired in 1983. He was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Algona, Iowa. He married Helen Austin in 1942 in Dubuque, Iowa. During World War II, he served as an officer in the Army. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife; and a brother, Roger, Spring Hill, Fla.

Naomi Durr
DAVENPORT -- Services for Naomi A. Durr, of Naples, Fla., will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's United Methodist Church, 14th and Brady streets, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mrs. Durr died July 22, 1999, in Naples. Naomi Valley was born Jan. 4, 1911, in Prairie du Chien, Wis. She married Kenneth Durr in 1930. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or the church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Joan Fulton, Davenport; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Alvin Kline
DeWITT, Iowa -- Services for Alvin L. "Speed" Kline, of DeWitt, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery , Anamosa. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home, DeWitt. Mr. Kline died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. He worked as a mechanic, millwright and welder while living in DeWitt. He was born July 23, 1911, in Brookings, S.D. He married Theola Mowery. She died in 1969. Survivors include sons, Lonny, Abilene, Texas, and William, Anamosa; a grandchild; and a sister, Helen Fraiser, Denver.

Elizabeth Nagel
HARLAN, Iowa -- Elizabeth L. Nagel, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Harlan, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Montclair Nursing and Rehabilitation, Omaha. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Pauley Funeral Home, Harlan. Burial will be in Harlan Cemetery . Visitation is noon to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the family present 7-8:30 p.m. Mrs. Nagel had owned a retail clothing store. Elizabeth Breedlove was born May 9, 1915, in Maryville, Mo. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Petsche, Harlan; and sons, Parke Marshall, Bettendorf, and Richard Marshall, Hi, Hawaii.

Hartwell Goodrich
ATKINSON, Ill. -- Hartwell "Hardy" Goodrich, of Atkinson, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Atkinson Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery , Geneseo. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. Mr. Goodrich farmed for 20 years in rural Geneseo and later owned and operated Annawan Implement Co. John Deere Sales, Annawan. He retired in 1975. He was born May 23, 1910, in Kankakee. He married Helen Bernard in 1933 in rural Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the church or Atkinson Rescue Squad. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marilyn Whaley, Galva; a son, Dale, Geneseo; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a brother, David, Geneseo.

Regina Porter
CLINTON, Iowa -- Regina A. Porter, of 1006 10th Ave. N., died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Eagle Point Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, with a vigil at 4 p.m. Mrs. Porter was a widely known artist in Clinton and Boulder, Colo., where she and Mr. Porter lived for 28 years. Regina McDermott was born May 7, 1912, in Clinton. She married Earl Rixen in 1932 in Clinton. He died in 1957. She married Patrick Porter in 1958 in Clinton. Memorials may be made to the Heart Association. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Virginia Mether and Genevieve Petersen, both of Clinton; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Mildred Shirk
MAQUOKETA, Iowa -- Services for Mildred C. Eastman Shirk, of Maquoketa, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Union Cemetery , rural Maquoketa. No visitation will be held. Mrs. Shirk died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Harmony House, Clinton. Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, is in charge of arrangements. She had worked all of her life at various local businesses. Mildred Current was born May 13, 1913, in Maquoketa. She married Ernest Eastman. He preceded her in death. She then married Ivan Shirk. He preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Survivors include a son, John Eastman, Maquoketa; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Bradley, Maquoketa; and a brother, Fortis Current, Coal Valley, Ill.

Velma Watters
MAQUOKETA, Iowa -- Services for Velma L. Watters, of Maquoketa, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery , Maquoketa. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Watters died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Maquoketa Care Center. She worked 15 years at Clinton Engines, Maquoketa, and eight years at Skeffington's Jack-N-Jill Grocery Store, Maquoketa. Velma Meyer was born April 11, 1919, in Delmar. She married Alvie Watters in 1935 in Mount Carroll. He died in 1982. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Survivors include sons, Harold "Lonie" and Jerald "Jerry," both of DeSoto, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlene Rupp, Maquoketa; brothers, Arnold Meyer, Maquoketa, Junior Meyer, Lincoln, Neb., Ralph Meyer, Muscatine, and Eugene Meyer, Houston.

Wayne Crow
MOLINE -- Services for Wayne "Barney" Crow,of Moline, formerly of Joy, Ill., will be 1 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., Moline. Burial will be in Peniel Cemetery , Joy, with military rites conducted by the American Legion, Post 121. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Mr. Crow died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He retired in 1996 after 43 years as a pipefitter in general maintenance for Alcoa, Bettendorf. After his retirement, he worked part-time as a driver for Claeys Automotive, Moline. He was born June 1, 1934, in New Boston. He married Beverly Quinn in 1958 in Rock Island. She died in 1978. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He also was in the National Guard. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include a daughter, Diana Manley, Moline; sons, Kris Erickson, Dubuque, Iowa, and David Crow, Moline; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Violet Staley, Milan; and a brother, Harold, Joy.

Burdette Davis
COLUMBUS JCT., Iowa -- Services for L. Burdette Davis, of Ainsworth, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery , Muscatine. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Davis died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at the United Presbyterian Home, Washington. He had farmed most of his adult life and had worked at the Washington County Conservation Department. He was born March 9, 1919, in Cotter. He married Anita Stange in 1952 in Muscatine. During World War II, he served with the Army in the Pacific Theater. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife; sons, Robert, Columbus Junction, and Randall, Colleyville, Texas; two grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Plett, Washington.

Francis Carraher
DeWITT, Iowa -- Francis J. Carraher, of DeWitt, formerly of Lost Nation, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at DeWitt Community Hospital, after a brief illness. The body was cremated. Services will be later. Hayden Funeral Home, Lost Nation, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Carraher farmed east of Lost Nation and was a beekeeper. He also worked at Clinton Engines, Maquoketa; Mississippi Valley Engineering, Grand Mound; and Beards and Co., Clinton. He was born Aug. 11, 1929, east of Lost Nation. Survivors include a sister, Mary Durkee, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and a brother, James, Elgin.
