KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Ormilda M. Mercer, of Kewanee, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Visitation is noon until service time. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery , Kewanee. Mrs. Mercer died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Kewanee Hospital. Ormilda Thurston was born April 26, 1904, in Wyoming, Ill. She married John Mercer in 1924 in Peoria. He died in 1986. Memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, Annawan. Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Baughman, Kewanee; a son, Floyd, Sparland; numerous grand-, great- and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Delphine Bullerman, Naperville; and a brother, Emery Thurston, Wyoming.

Mildred Brown
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Mildred R. Brown, of Belvidere, Ill., formerly of Clinton, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Schmitz Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Monday and noon until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Maplecrest Nursing Home, Belvidere. She was employed more than 10 years as a bookkeeper at the former Mercy Hospital, Clinton. She retired in 1980. Mildred Smith was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Clinton. She married Robert Brown in 1928 in DeKalb County, Ill. He died in 1977. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include daughters, Delores Cram, Belvidere, Ginny Belt-Zook, Lakewood, Calif., and Jackie Leahy, Circleville, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Simons and Betty Ugarph, both of Clinton.

Carl Anderson Jr.
COAL VALLEY, Ill. -- Services for Carl J. Anderson Jr., of Coal Valley, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Moline. Burial will be in Coal Valley Cemetery , with military services by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Mr. Anderson died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. He owned and operated New Frontier Barber Shop in the Safety Building downtown Rock Island for more than 30 years. He retired March 31, 1999, after 45 years in the barbering profession. He served for 12 years as secretary-treasurer and one year as president of the Quad-Cities Barbers Union. He was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Coal Valley. He married JoAn Hedgcock in 1951 in Moline. They owned and operated Andersons' Apple Valley Farm orchard in Coal Valley. During the Korean War, he served two years with the Army in Trieste, Italy. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Amy Harsha, Arlington, Texas, Holly McGrail, Aurora, and Eve Wolfe, Murphysboro; a son, Alan, Moline; six grandchildren; a sister, Eileen McAdam, Rock Island; a brother, Richard, of Coal Valley.

Michael Van Acker
SILVIS, Ill. -- Services for Michael W. "Mic" Van Acker, of Sesser, formerly of Silvis, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal, with military honors conducted by Vietnam Veteran's of America, Post 229. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Mr. Van Acker died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in Sesser. He was a journeyman electrician. He was born June 8, 1948, in Moline. He married Christy Hilton in 1984 in Port Byron. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospitals. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherryl Mooneyham, Clayton, N.C.; a son Daniel, Cave City, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Catherine Blaylock, Harrison, Ark.; a stepson, James Hilton, Tybee Island, Ga.; six grandchildren; his parents, Joseph and June Van Acker, Silvis; a sister, Marla Angelo, East Moline; a brother, Kevin, Arkadelphia, Ark.; and his step-grandmother, Hazel Van Acker, Michigan.

Edwin Plaster
DAVENPORT -- Edwin P. Plaster, of Davenport, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-North Campus, Davenport. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Mr. Plaster farmed 30 years in the West Union, Iowa, area and was employed 22 years as a delivery truck driver at Oscar Mayer Foods Corp. He retired in 1978. He was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Westgate, Iowa. He married Irene Schroeder in 1936 in Westgate. She died in 1988. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Hemmingson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sons, Stan, Davenport, and Craig, Marion, Iowa; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Louise Reinking, Waterloo, Iowa, Eleanor Miehe, Westgate, and Ruth Weegman, Minneapolis.

Lorraine Ryan
DAVENPORT -- Inurnment for Lorraine N. Ryan, of Davenport, will be in Pine Hill Cemetery , Davenport. No services or visitation will be held. Mrs. Ryan died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at her home. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. She was born Oct. 18, 1936. Lorraine Tatom married Leo Ryan in 1992 in Grants Pass, Ore. They owned and operated Apartment Locators in Davenport for the past six years. Survivors include her husband; and four sisters and two brothers in Oregon.

Elizabeth Russell Martin
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Elizabeth Russell Martin, of Montgomery, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at her home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Queen of Mercy Church, Montgomery. Visitation is 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the church, with a rosary at 8 p.m. She had attended Immaculate Conception Academy, Davenport, and Creston, Iowa, Junior College. She married Bob Martin on Jan. 26, 1957, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Survivors include her husband; a son, the Rev. Steven Martin.

DAVENPORT -- Services for Jade Lynn Davis, infant daughter of Ryan Davis and Kecia Dooms, will be 2 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation is noon to service time. Jade Lynn died Thursday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. She was born Oct. 3, 1999, in Osceola, Mo. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include grandparents, Randy and Patty McClure, Davenport, Brian Davis, West Frankfort, Ill., Christianna Chambers, Springfield, Mo., Darrin Dooms, Dora, Mo., and Rebecka Conklin and Darrin Conklin; great-grandparents, Rebecca and Paul Miller, West Frankfort, Dennis Reeder, St. Louis, Donna and Bill Michel, Herrin, Ill., Wanda and Charles Engler, West Frankfort, Carol and Charles McClure, Chicago Ridge, Ill., Sandra Dooms, Davenport, DeLuar Dooms, Dora, Mo., and Judith Chambers, Lowry City, Mo.; great-great-grandparents, Lura McClure, Marion, Ky., Marie Kuhnke, Herrin, Ovas Reeder, Livingston, Tenn., and Gramma Irene, Davenport; and great-great- great-grandmother, JoHanna Kuhnke, Royalton, Ill.

Joseph O'Connell
DAVENPORT -- Joseph B. D. O'Connell, of Davenport, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at his home. The body has been donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for scientific purposes. No visitation will be held. Memorial services will be later. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. O'Connell was employed many years as parts manager at Ford dealerships. He was born Aug. 24, 1909, in Stewartville, Minn. He married Lydia Gerber in 1928. Memorials may be made to Davenport Y Swim Department or Genesis Hospice Care of Visiting Nurse Association. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Adeline Gilbert, Atlantic, Iowa, and Ann Radonich, Scottsdale, Ariz.; sons, John, Sycamore, Ill., and Charles, Davenport; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Vera Naretty
GENESEO, Ill. -- Memorial services for Vera Naretty, of Geneseo, formerly of Marseilles, will be 9:30 a.m. today at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. Inurnment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Seneca. Mrs. Naretty died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Hammond Henry Extended Care, Geneseo. Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, is in charge of arrangements. She was a reporter for more than 50 years at the Old Republican Times, Marseilles. She was born April 18, 1900, in Spring Valley. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Herman Sander
DAVENPORT -- Memorial services for Herman Johannes Amandus Sander, of Davenport, will be 3 p.m. Monday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home. He resided for most of his adult life in Minnesota. Herman Johannes Amandus Sander was born Oct. 1, 1904, in Hamburg, Germany, to Johannes Amandus and Frieda (Peper) Sander. He died peacefully at home at age 95 on Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999. He was very proud to be an American citizen and a U.S. veteran of World War II. He was a machinist by trade and a handyman who could fix anything. His longevity and quality of life were greatly enhanced by the independence he maintained in the home he loved at Luther Towers, and its extended family of residents and staff. Deep gratitude, on his behalf, goes also to his support network which treated him as a family member, including medical professionals, Genesis Visiting Nurses and Continuing Care, Walgreens clerical and pharmaceutical staff and cashiers at Eagles and Norwest Bank. He was revered by those who knew him for his kindness, good manners, love of life and deep love of nature. His extraordinary sense of humor and capacity for forgiveness were legendary. His legacy was all the smiles and laughter he brought to everyone whose life he touched. He was a true gentleman. He maintained a lifelong love for family, friends, nature, fishing, bingo, shopping and the Minnesota Vikings, and in earlier years, wine, women and song. He viewed the gift of life as a banquet to be savored. His faith in God was profound and real. He had no fear of death. He was extremely proud of all his nieces and nephews extending over three generations and to his many surrogate nieces and nephews as well. Memorials may be made to Luther Towers, Davenport. Survivors include nieces, Shirley Goad, Birmingham, Ala., Marion Engel, Escondido, Calif., and Patricia Baxter-Rebal, Davenport; and nephews, Kent Baxter, Davenport, and Horst Woller, Stuttgard, Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Hans Rieper; and sisters, Erna Woller and Wilma Baxter.

Daniel Frank Sr.
MILAN, Ill. -- Services for Daniel E. Frank Sr., of Milan, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal, with military services by Milan American Legion Post 569. Visitation is 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Frank died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He owned and operated the former Superior Decorator, Rock Island, for 30 years. He retired in 1988. He was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Bushnell, Ill. He married Esther Hendrickson in 1947 in Macomb. She died in 1962. During World War II, he served with the Army in the European and Pacific theaters. He received the Bronze Star. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Smith, Athens, Ill.; sons, Daniel Jr., Davenport, and Michael, Taylor Ridge, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Frank, Rock Island.

Kathryn Frommelt
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Kathryn S. Frommelt, of Rock Island, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. The Rev. James K. Ramer will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Frommelt died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She retired in 1969 after 30 years at Red Jacket Manufacturing Co., Davenport. Kathryn Kemp was born Oct. 4, 1907, in Washburn, Iowa, to John and Margaret (DeMuth) Kemp. She married Raymond E. Frommelt on Aug. 12, 1924, in Gilbertville, Iowa. He died in 1984. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the auxiliary of Rock Island Eagles 956. He enjoyed playing cards and reading. In earlier years, she loved to travel. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or a favorite charity. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Tom Trilk, Dubuque, Iowa, and Mary Katherine and Clifford Bolt and Joan and William Jackson, all of Rock Island; a son, Robert J. Frommelt, Davenport; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Ed Bernard, Waterloo, Iowa.

Edna Oberhaus
BETTENDORF -- Memorial services for Edna E. Oberhaus, of Clive, Iowa, formerly of Bettendorf, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends after the service at the church. Private burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Mrs. Oberhaus died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines. McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, is in charge of arrangements. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Sittrick & Associates, Bettendorf, before her retirement. Edna Lentz was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Mount Vernon, Iowa, to Earl and Gertrude (Reasland) Lentz. She married Robert H. Oberhaus on May 1, 1948, in Davenport. He died Feb. 13, 1997. She was a member of Bettendorf Presbyterian Church and a former member of Sweet Adelines in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include a son, Mark, Clive; sisters, Susan Johnson, Canon City, Colo., Ruth Shain, Beverly Lentz and Trudy Hegarty, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Betty Downs, Los Angeles, and Esther Shanklin, Montezuma, Iowa; and a brother, John Lentz, Cedar Rapids. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Lentz Jr.

Henry Lowe
VIOLA, Ill. -- Services for Henry A. "Hank" Lowe, of Chicago, formerly of Viola, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery , Rock Island. Mr. Lowe died Nov. 15, 1999, in Chicago. He was an exceptional roofer for 28 years. He was born Dec. 27, 1943, in Dermott, Ark. Survivors include sons, Allen, Oak Grove, Ky, and Paul, Moline; three grandchildren; his parents, Floyd Jr. and Airs Lowe, Viola; sisters, Vera Babers, Rock Island, Irean Pettigrew, Chicago, Arzella Taylor, Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy Nance, Duncanville, Texas, and Margaret "Peggy" Lowe, Davenport; and brothers, Bobby, Davenport, and Jerry, Bettendorf.

GALVA, Ill. -- Services for Ruth Leff, formerly of Nekoma and Galva areas, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery . Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Leff died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee. She was a homemaker. Ruth Anderson was born June 7, 1912, in Henry County. She married Raymond Leff in 1934 in Galesburg. He died in 1969. Memorials may be made to the Activities Department at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Timpy, Tempe, Ariz.; sons, Everett, Sarasota, Fla., and Gerald R.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Miedema, Lakeland, Fla.; and brothers, Ernest Anderson, Galva, and Charles Anderson, Etoile, Texas.

Roberta Kennison
EAST MOLINE -- Roberta Kennison, of East Moline, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at her home. A memorial visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , East Moline. Mrs. Kennison was employed as a registered nurse at area nursing homes and had done private duty nursing. Roberta Sherlock was born Nov. 5, 1951, in Moline. Survivors include a son, Dr. Rick Kennison, Germantown, Wis.; and a sister, Martha Larsen, San Marcos, Calif.

Kenneth Sullivan
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Kenneth E. Sullivan, of Bradenton, Fla., will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery , East Moline. Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary Ltd., East Moline, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Sullivan died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, in Bradenton. He was employed as an engineer at Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He was born Sept. 24, 1918, in Albany, Ill. He married Ann Verstraete. She died in 1973. He later married Ann Welvaert. She died in 1994. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anne Building Fund. Survivors include daughters, Judy Hutchison, Bradenton, and Janet Standaert, East Moline; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and brother, J. Eugene, East Moline, and Edward C. Jr., Cape Coral, Fla.
