Richard Hawley
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Richard Hawley, of Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. The Rev. Donald Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Hawley died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home. He was employed 40 years at Ameritech. He retired in October 1992 as a systems specialist in outside repair. He was born March 2, 1934, in Illinois City, to James Porter and Verna (Sires) Hawley. He married Zoerelda Maureen Stout on Aug. 5, 1961, in East Moline. During the Korean War, he served in the Army. He enjoyed skeet shooting and loved antique and classic sports cars. He had a classic Austin Healey and enjoyed driving any car. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Porter and Lynn Marie Hawley, Evanston, Ill., and Timothy Charles and Dawn Kristin Hawley, Los Angeles; grandchildren, Derek Peter and Nicholas Richard Hawley; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Wilbur Winegard, Stanton, Mich.; his loving former wife; six nephews; a niece; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Allen James Hawley; a brother, James Porter Hawley; and a nephew, Mark Winegard.

Daniel McFadden
ROCK FALLS, Ill. -- Services for Daniel F. McFadden, of rural Rock Falls, will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Rock Falls. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Sterling. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls, and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church. Mr. McFadden died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999. He was employed the past 12 years as a grinder at Diversified Composits, Rock Falls. He was born Nov. 7, 1959. Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer McFadden, Rock Falls; sons, Danny J., Sterling, and Curtis A., Joliet; a granddaughter; his parents, Francis and Madalyn McFadden, Rock Falls; sisters, Mary Chilberg, Davenport, Diane McFadden, Sterling, and Karen McFadden, Dixon; and brothers, Mike, Sterling, and Richard, Davenport.

Ervin Gruhn
SABULA, Iowa -- Ervin T. Gruhn, of rural Sabula, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church. Mr. Gruhn had farmed all his adult life in Jackson County. He was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Iowa Township, rural Sabula. He married Jeanette Greve in 1942 in Clinton. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Arlene Schauf, Maquoketa; sons, Eugene, rural Sabula, Donald, rural Clinton, and Delbert, Clinton; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Gruhn, rural Sabula.

Rosemary Carel
ROCK ISLAND -- Rosemary Eva Carel, of 3705 9th St., died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. The Rev. Donald Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with memorial services at 6 p.m. by Milan Legion/Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Mrs. Carel was employed 14 years as a clerk and security guard at the former Zayre Store, Rock Island. She also worked at Auto Acres, Milan. Rosemary Schaab was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Rock Island, to John A. and Mabel L. (Gahagen) Schaab. She married Laurence A. Schmit on Dec. 2, 1942. He died June 8, 1972. She married Ray Carel on Feb. 6, 1976. He died Dec. 8, 1991. She was a former member of South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. She was past president of the auxiliary of Milan Legion Post 569 and past president of the auxiliary of Milan VFW Post 4177. She was president, most recently, of Watch Hill Towers Activity Club and a member of the PTA at Grant School, Rock Island; American Business Women; Pythian Sisters of Milan; Order of Eastern Star of Milan; and 50/50 Club. Mrs. Carel enjoyed being with her family and friends, and enjoyed fishing, sewing and bingo. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret A. and Albert Melody, Rock Island; sons and daughters-in-law, Laurence W. "Butch" and Marie W. Schmit, Hudson, Wis., and Myral F. and Carole Schmit, Rock Island; grandchildren, Laurence W. Schmit II, Kevin D. Schmit, Angie Pearson, Todd Schmit and Michael, Chad and Albert Melody; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Otto Schaab, Colona, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bernard and Bill Schaab; and a sister, Betty Jane Morris.

Janice Hansen
CAMANCHE, Iowa -- Janice A. Hansen, of 1215 7th Ave., died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-South Campus, Clinton. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Hansen was employed as librarian at Clinton Public Library and Clinton schools for many years. She also was employed as a bookkeeper at Clinton Culvert Co. Janice Pugh was born March 7, 1933, in Clinton. She married Ervin Hansen in 1954 in Clinton. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Tammy Cheramy, Clinton, and Judy Hansen, Clinton; a son, Dean, Surf Side Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren; ad a brother, John Pugh, Davenport.

Irene Meyer
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Irene M. Meyer, of Kewanee, formerly of Hooppole, will be 11 a.m. today at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery , Kewanee. Mrs. Meyer died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Kewanee Care Home. Irene Hassler was born April 24, 1908, in Peru, Ill. She married Reuben Meyer in 1938 in Davenport. He died in 1984. Memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, Hooppole. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Darlene Meyer, Peoria.

Pearl DeClercq
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Pearl G. DeClercq, of Kewanee, will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kewanee. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. DeClercq died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, in Kewanee. Pearl Keeney was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Neponset. She married August DeClercq in 1937 in Kewanee. They farmed many years in Burns Township, Henry County. He died in 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn DeClercq, East Moline; a son, Don, Kewanee; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Mary McBride, Kewanee; and a brother, Thomas Keeney, Sterling.

Dalton Mitchell
CARBON CLIFF, Ill. -- Dalton Cedrick Mitchell, infant son of Reginald and Brenda Mitchell, of Carbon Cliff, died Friday, Nov. 19, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Private services will be Wednesday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. No visitation will be held. Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline, is in charge of arrangements. Dalton Cedrick was born Nov. 19 in Silvis. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sisters, Destiny and Micaela, and a brother, Grant; and grandparents, Marcus and Cleda Mitchell, Ninevah, Ind., and David and Zenetta Adkins, East Moline.

Richard Trice
FREEPORT, Ill. -- Services for Richard T. Trice, of Freeport, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gaines Chapel AME Church, East Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Trice died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Freeport Memorial Hospital. He was employed as a machine operator at Kelly Springfield Tire Co. He served three years in the Army. He was born Dec. 12, 1955, in Moline. Survivors include daughters, Chanteja Trice, Freeport, and Andrea Elliott, Davenport; a son, Darien, Freeport; three grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy Trice, East Moline; a sister, Alma Warden, East Moline; and brothers, Algie and Walter, both of Rock Island, and William R., Coal Valley, Ill.

Thomas Croxton
MOLINE -- Thomas L. Croxton, of Moline, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Mr. Croxton retired in 1990 as an electrician journeyman after 43 years with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Bardolph, Ill. He married Mary Gotheridge in 1966 in Cambridge, Ill. She died in 1994. Memorials may be made to Christian Children's Fund. Survivors include daughters, Linda Overturf, Rock Island, Cynthia Essary, Phoenix, and Sandra Hughes, Turlock, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Mascaro, Colona, Ill., Margaret VanArnsdale, Corpus Christi, Texas; and Mabel Kaalberg, East Moline; and a brother, Duane, Minneapolis.

Karen Keith
WILTON, Iowa -- Services for Karen Kay Keith, of Wilton, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lowden. The Rev. John Ranbarger will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery , Lowden. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence. Mrs. Keith died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, after a brief illness. Karen Schmidt was born Sept. 15, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, to Elmer and Alice (Licht) Schmidt. She married David Keith on Oct. 16, 1979, in Lowden. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lowden. Survivors include her husband; a son, Dennis Keith, Wilton; a stepson, Matthew Schneckloth, of Texas; a stepdaughter, Christina Null, Washington, Iowa; three step-grandchildren; her mother, Alice Schmidt, Clarence; a sister, Kathy Robinson, Clarence; and a brother, Ken Schmidt, Mechanicsville. She was preceded in death by her father.

DAVENPORT -- Services for Judy A. Rodts, of Mishawaka, Ind., formerly of Davenport, will be noon Wednesday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Rodts died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Mishawaka. Judy Wendt was born March 15, 1945, in Davenport. She married Mike Rodts in 1981 in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Tammy Crites, Davenport, and Toni Crites, Salt Lake City; a stepdaughter, Linda Valhovich, Rock Island; a stepson, Edward Rodts, Anamosa, Iowa; five grandchildren; and sisters, Sharon York, Davenport, and Linda Prunty, Swisher, Iowa.

Dorothy Daugherty
LeCLAIRE, Iowa -- Dorothy M. Daugherty, of LeClaire, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, after a brief illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery , LeClaire. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. She was employed as a waitress at Ross' Restaurant, Bettendorf, for several years. Dorothy Stichter was born Dec. 18, 1917, in LeClaire. She married William Daugherty in 1945 in Davenport. He died in 1983. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include daughters, Janet Daugherty and Becky Rodriguez, both of Davenport, Judith Jackson, Omaha, Neb., and Debbie Hoag, Muscatine, Iowa; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mary Lou Reinhart, Moline.

Gregory Stewart
DeWITT, Iowa -- Services for Gregory W. Stewart, of DeWitt, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery , DeWitt. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Stewart died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Plano, Texas, Medical Center. He was a self-employed sales consultant at Lyceum Group Inc. He was born Aug. 22, 1946, in Gallipolis, Ohio. He married Jean Bousselot in 1985 in Algonquin, Ill. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Stephanie Stewart, Davenport; sons, Jeff Balbinot, Cary, Ill., and Gordon Stewart II, Davenport; two granddaughters; his parents, Gordon and Louise Stewart, DeWitt; and brothers, Michael D., Muscatine, and Terry L., Flower Mound, Texas.

Steven Rathje
BRYANT, Iowa -- Steven D. Rathje, of 3996 130th St., formerly of Bellevue, died of cancer Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at his home, after a brief illness. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kingery Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery , Bellevue. He was born April 3, 1961, in Chicago. Survivors include his mother, Jeanette Rathje, Bellevue; a sister, Sue Timmerman, Dubuque; and a special friend with whom he resided, Faith Jones.

Randal Kuelper
DURANT, Iowa -- Randal F. Kuelper, of Durant, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Wilton Care Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bentley Funeral Homes, Durant. Burial will be in Durant Cemetery . Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Kuelper farmed 37 years in Cedar County. He retired in 1975. He was born Feb. 1, 1914, in Scott County. He married Nola Schneekloth in 1937 in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Durant Ambulance Service. Survivors include his wife.

Beulah Moody

Burial will be in Clover Chapel Cemetery , Woodhull. Mrs. Moody died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, in Salt Lake City. Beulah Elliott was born Nov. 18, 1906, in Woodhull. She married Harley Moody in 1928 in Nashua, Iowa. He died in 1980. Memorials may be made to Clover Chapel Church. Survivors include daughters, Shirley Nelson, Rock Island, and Kathleen Sanders, Spokane, Wash.; a son, Merrill, Murray, Utah; 16 grandchildren; 26 great- grandchildren; and sisters, Naomi Falline, Galva, Arlene Dueysen, Henry, and Lola Snyder, Galesburg.

Stefanie VanDeWoestyne Ruark
MILAN, Ill. -- Services for Stefanie VanDeWoestyne Ruark, of Milan, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. She died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at her home, after a brave battle with cancer. She was employed as a secretary in the risk management department at Montgomery-Kone. She also did temporary secretarial work through Kelly Services. Stefanie VanDeWoestyne was born June 13, 1970, in Moline. She was a hunter-jumper horse riding competitor for several years at Huntermark Farms, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to her three daughters' education fund, which has been established at Black Hawk State Bank. Survivors include daughters, Amanda, Samantha and Ashleigh Sommers, her parents, Sandy and Joe VanDeWoestyne, her grandparents, Wayne and Susan Lovelace, and a special friend, David Birdsley, all of Milan.
