Elbert Wiebel
ROCK ISLAND -- Elbert C. "Al" Wiebel died Friday, Nov. 19, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island, after a brief illness. He was born in Wilton Junction, Iowa, on Oct. 17, 1912. He graduated from Wilton High School in 1930 and worked on his father's farm. He was employed by International Harvester Works, East Moline, in the 1930s and 1940s, as lieutenant of the guard and chief seniority clerk. In the 1950s, he worked as a mechanic and general contractor. He was employed later again by International Harvester Works, East Moline, and retired from there in 1975. He then moved to Mission, Texas, where he resided until his death. He was married to Elnora Hahn and had three children. He later was married to Shirley Franklin and had three children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Anna Wiebel; his wife, Shirley; a son, Gary, and a sister, Hilda Koch. He is survived by his first wife, Elnora (Hahn) Moeller. He also is survived by daughters, Ilene Maass, Rock Island, and Joyce Moon, Rock Island; sons, Philip Wiebel, Durant, Iowa, Carl Wiebel, Rock Island, and Jules Wiebel, Mission. He also is survived by brothers, the Rev. Edwin Wiebel, Ovieda, Fla., and Harry Wiebel, East Moline; a stepdaughter, Dr. Cyla Allison, Northport, N.Y. He has 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Elbert Wiebel was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Churches in Wilton, Rock Island and Moline. He was a member of the Milan Rifle Club for many years and had served as president. He also was a certified rifle and pistol safety instructor who taught hundreds of young people firearms safety and responsibility. He was an endowment member of the National Rifle Association. He believed strongly in the rights insured by the second amendment to the Constitution. As an accomplished tenor, he loved to sing and performed with the International Harvester barbershop quartet and soloed at various functions. He loved hunting, fishing, firearm competition and playing cards. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. He will be sadly missed by all those who loved him.

Seda Winfield
DAVENPORT -- Services for Seda May Winfield, of Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Burial will be in Blue Grass, Iowa, Cemetery . Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Winfield died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Davenport Lutheran Home. Seda Farrell was born Feb. 6, 1912, in Davenport, to William O. and Armedia May (Travis) Farrell. She married Anslem Winfield on Dec. 13, 1927, in Davenport. He died Feb. 25, 1975. She and her husband farmed in Scott County for many years. She was a member of Community Baptist Church, Andalusia, Ill., and Blue Grass American Legion Auxiliary. Memorials may be made to Center for Active Seniors Inc. or Community Baptist Church, Andalusia. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Clarissa and Vincent Fowler, Davenport, Dorothy Holst, Davenport, and Lenora and Charles Buckley, Princeton, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, George and Joan Winfield, Davenport, and Robert and Janice Winfield, Blue Grass; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laura Pellin, Buffalo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by nine brothers; a sister; and a son-in-law, Keith Holst, in 1993.

Janis Bryant
BETTENDORF -- Services for Janis L. Bryant, of Bettendorf, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf, where she was a member. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, where a prayer vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Mrs. Bryant died Tuesday, November 23, 1999 at her home following an extended illness. She was employed in food services at Bettendorf Community School System and for the Latch Key Program at the Davenport Y. Janis Puetz was born April 19, 1936, in Bellevue, Iowa, to John and Alverda (Kilburg) Puetz. She married Jackie D. Bryant on May 29, 1954, in Rock Island. He died March 3, 1997. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Genesis Medical Center or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law, Julie Bryant and Jean Bryant, both of Bettendorf, and Jaclyn and Jeff Knaack, Davenport; sons and a daughter-in-law, David Bryant, Eldridge, Mo., and James and Rodell Bryant, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Ryan and Raquel Bryant; and a brother, Ardell "A.J." Puetz, Green Valley, Ariz. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Darwin; and her parents.

Francis Shaw
DAVENPORT -- Francis L. Shaw, of Davenport, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at his home. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Mr. Shaw was employed more than 20 years as cafeteria manager at the YWCA, Moline. He retired in 1980. He was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Wayne County, Ill. He married Margaret Vickerman in 1941 in Rantoul, Ill. During World War II, he served as a first lieutenant and B17 bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps. He also was a prisoner-of-war held in North Germany. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara Olka, Davenport; sons, William, Lansing, Mich., and Donald, Hayward, Calif.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Icle Strandberg and Ola Qualman, both of Rockford, Ill., Dora Puddicombe, Rockton, Ill., and Pearl Laube, Janesville, Wis.

Stephen Dietz
PEORIA, Ill. -- Services for Stephen C. Dietz, of Peoria, formerly of Davenport, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Peoria. Visitation is one hour before the service Friday at the church. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Cemetery , Davenport. Mr. Dietz died Tuesday at Rose Garden Care Center, Peoria Heights. Wilton Mortuary, Peoria, is in charge of arrangements. He was employed as a heat treat development analyst at Caterpillar Tractor Co., Peoria. He was born Aug. 18, 1943, in Davenport. He served from 1961 to 1965 in the Air Force. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the church. Survivors include a brother, Jeff, Davenport; and a special friend, Deb Brooks, Peoria.

Frances VanWassenhove
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Frances A. VanWassenhove, of Kewanee, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Kewanee. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Schueneman and Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, with a rosary at 7:45 p.m. Mrs. VanWassenhove died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Kewanee Hospital. Frances Vinavich was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Kewanee. She married Henry VanWassenhove in 1939 in Davenport. Memorials to the church or American Heart Fund. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Margaret Dowthard, Peoria; sons, Edmond, Panama City, Fla., Ken and Wayne, both of Kewanee, and Doug, Georgetown, Maine; and two grandchildren.

Lester Barkhurst
WEST LIBERTY, Iowa -- Services for Lester "Curly" Barkhurst, of West Liberty, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Liberty. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery , West Liberty. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, with a wake service at 7:45 p.m. Mr. Barkhurst died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Dubuque, after an extended illness. He was employed as a section man at Rock Island Railroad. He retired in 1974. After retirement, he worked several years at Jim's Foodland, West Liberty. He coached baseball for the American Legion Baseball team and had pitched for many independent leagues in the area. He was born July 22, 1912, in Springdale. He married Patricia Sneeringer in 1940. She died in 1995. During World War II, he served with Army 7th Cavalry in the Philippines. Survivors include a daughter, Debra Harrington, Conway, Ark.; sons, Michael D., Grass Valley, Calif., and Terry L., Dubuque; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Lourena Beaver, West Liberty.

Robert Frederick Sr.
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Robert W. Frederick Sr., of East Moline, will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Mr. Frederick died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at his home. He was employed as a truck driver at Holland Motor Co. He retired in 1977. He was born Feb. 13, 1917, in Rock Island. He married Marjorie Swim in 1961 in Decatur, Ill. During World War II, he served in the Army. He was the first man from Rock Island to volunteer to service in the Army under the 1940 selective service act. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Honey Frederick, East Moline, Cheryl Godsey, Corbin, Ky., Alisa Frederick, Charleston, S.C., Monica Emerson, Sarcoxie, Mo., Candace Egbert, Pierce City, Mo., and Marita Irvine, Galva, Ill.; sons, John Frederick, East Moline, Robert Frederick Jr., Branson, Mo., Michael Christiansen, Reed Spring, Mo., Martin Christiansen, Rogers, Ark., and Monte Christiansen, Aledo, Texas; 38 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Jerry Askew
ALEDO, Ill. -- Services for Jerry L. Askew, of Aledo, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is one hour before the service. Private burial will be held. Mr. Askew died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He was employed as an assembler at Container Corp. of America, Rock Island. He was born Oct. 1, 1939, in Burlington, Iowa. He married Carole Rush. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include a daughter, Tonia Askew; two grandsons; stepsons, Michael Chapman, Washington, D.C., and Todd Chapman, Seaton; sisters, Betty Pence, Keithsburg, and Gayle McIntyre, Aledo; and brothers, George, Keithsburg, and Dale, Walcott, Iowa.

Heredean Liddell
DAVENPORT -- Services for Heredean Liddell, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pentecostal Church of God, Davenport. Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Mrs. Liddell died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. She was employed 21 years as a certified nurses and, for part of that time, worked at Davenport Good Samaritan Center. She most recently was employed seven years as a press operator at Ralston Purina. Heredean Douglas was born Jan. 29, 1943, in Canton, Miss. She married Robert Liddell Sr. in 1959 in East St. Louis. He died in 1989. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include daughters, Vernita Liddell and Teresa Liddell-Bailey, both of Davenport; a stepdaughter Veneta Brown, Macon, Miss.; sons, Robert Jr., Ronald and Michael Liddell, all of Davenport; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillie Stewart, Chicago, Helen Reed, East St. Louis, and Callie Lawrence, Jackson, Miss.; brothers, L.C. Branson, East St. Louis, and Ernest Douglas and Johnny Glispie, both of Jackson; and a special friend, Junior Edwards, with whom she resided.

Sheryl Wulf
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Sheryl A. Wulf, of 613 12th Ave. N., will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Mrs. Wulf died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Davenport, after an 18-month illness. She was employed as a registered nurse at the University of Minnesota and as an emergency room nurse in Hennepin County before moving to Clinton in 1972. She was employed two years as house supervisor at the former Jane Lamb Memorial Hospital, Clinton. Sheryl Wisneski was born July 26, 1948, in Denison. She married Dale Wulf in 1971 in Sauk Rapids, Minn. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Clarice Blanchard and Bethany Wulf; a sister, Kathleen Gunerius, Coon Rapids, Minn.; and a brother, Gary Wisneski, Ankeny.

Donald Lee
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Donald L. Lee, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Muscatine. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Mr. Lee farmed and raised hereford purebred cattle for 29 years. In 1964, he moved to Muscatine and was employed as secretary manager at Muscatine County Mutual Insurance Co. until retirement. He was born June 2, 1910, at his parent's farm home north of Letts. He married Grace McCormac in 1935 at her parent's home west of Letts. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Linda Morrison and Mary Gleaves, Arnold, Md.; brothers, J. Lloyd and Edward L., both of Muscatine, and Paul M., Boulder City, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee, on April 14, 1999.

Helen Walsch
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Helen E. Walsch, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Muscatine Care Center. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock, Ill. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Mrs. Walsch was a homemaker. Helen Stalkfleet was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Muscatine. She married Raymond Walsch in 1956 in Woodstock. He preceded her in death. Survivors include sisters, Vera Gerling, Columbus City, Donna Merchant, Muscatine, Gladys Rowe, Wapello, and Mary Mize, of Arkansas; and brothers, Harold Stalkfleet, Crowley, Texas, Lee and Leroy Stalkfleet, both of Muscatine, and Frank Jr. and Cecil Stalkfleet, both of Nichols.

Cynthia Anne Teeters
LeCLAIRE, Iowa -- Memorial services for Cynthia Anne Teeters, of North Pole, Alaska, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Davenport, with Pastor Mark E. Holmer officiating. A family and friends remembrance will be at 10 a.m. at the church. Mrs. Teeters died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, after a brave battle with cancer. Cynthia Morris was born June 8, 1955, in Davenport, to Ralph E. and Donna M. (Forari) Morris. She married Thomas N. Teeters on June 8, 1991, in Bettendorf. Cynthia enjoyed homemaking, especially sewing, cooking, and baking pies. She loved the natural beauty of Alaska, hunting, fishing and hiking. Cynthia lived at the North Pole and helped Santa mail letters to her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survivors include her beloved husband and daughters, Mary and Sarah Gildner, North Pole, Alaska; her parents, Ralph and Donna Morris, LeClaire, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, David Morris and Mary Jane Anderson, Freeport, Ill., and Bryan and Terrie Morris, LeClaire; a sister and brother-in-law, Shelly and Mark Uhde, LeClaire; six nieces; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Chester and Edna Morris and Ernie and Anna Forari.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Donna Border, Morrison, and Jan Banes, Sterling; three grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter; and brothers, George and Clarence "Bud," Platteville, Wis.

CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Helen V. Rasmussen, of Eagle Point Nursing Home, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Rasmussen died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at the nursing home. She had worked several years at the Sarah Harding Home, Clinton, retiring in 1972. Helen Hinds was born Dec. 25, 1904, in Thomson, Ill. She married Cecil Rasmussen in 1928 in Clinton. He died in 1960. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Sill, Waukesha, Wis.; sons, Carroll and Lowell, both of Clinton; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Ralph T. Weidman, of Ottawa, Ill., will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Weidman died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rockford, Ill. He was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad. He was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Savanna. She married Barbara Oak in 1939 in Clinton. She died in 1992. Survivors include nieces, Joyce McKee, Roscoe, Ill., and Carol Bentley, Mendota, Ill.; and nephews, Jerry Siedenburg, Freeport, Ill., and Jim Siedenburg, Potosi, Wis.
