MAQUOKETA, Iowa -- Services for Ruth Ann Beranek, of Maquoketa, formerly of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Bridgeport Cemetery , rural Maquoketa. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Beranek died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa. She worked as a certified nurse's aide at Maquoketa Care Center. Ruth Heuer was born Sept. 14, 1953, in Davenport. She married Charles Carrillo in Davenport. He died in 1983. She then married Edward Beranek in 1995 in Maquoketa. Memorials may be made to the Ruth Ann Beranek Memorial Fund. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Gina Carrillo and Toni Tracy, both of Maquoketa; a son, Charles Carrillo, Woodward; six grandchildren; sisters, Deb Costello, Andrew, Kim Welch, Maquoketa, and Becky Ineichen, Moline; and brothers, Jim Heuer, Delmar, Bob Heuer, Preston, Bill Heuer, Davenport, and Bruce and Joe Heuer, both of Maquoketa.

June Overkamp
CLINTON, Iowa -- A funeral liturgy outside of Mass, for June J. Overkamp, of Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Mrs. Overkamp died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center North-Clinton Campus. She was a waitress and hostess in Clinton for many years. June Brown was born June 13, 1927, in Glendive, Mont. She married Robert Overkamp in 1956 in Rock Island. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Julie Overkamp and Ann Jordan, both of Clinton; sons, James Dorsey, Fayetteville, Ga., Dale Dorsey and David Overkamp, both of Clinton, and Alan Overkamp, DeWitt; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Marge Bach; and a brother, John Brown, both of Clinton.

James Weekly
COLONA, Ill. -- Services for James F. Weekly, of Colona, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Family Funeral Services, Colona. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Masonic services by Lodge 969, East Moline, at 7:45 p.m. He died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his residence. He had owned Jim's Transmission Service, Silvis, since 1950. He was born March 20, 1918, in Pope County. He married Ina Wilder in 1945 in Camp Cross, S.C. She died in 1998. During World War II, he served in the Army, serving in the European Theater. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital. Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Strnad, Plymouth, Minn., and Teresa VanKlaveren, Silvis; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Kay Sutton, East Moline, and Delma Elmore, Granite City.

Cathryn Rodenheber
BETTENDORF -- Cathryn D. Rodenheber, a resident of Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf, formerly of Rock Island, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the home. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery . Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home. Cathryn Nicholas was born March 14, 1919, in Rock Island. She married Willard Rodenheber in 1946 in Rock Island. He died in 1993. Memorials may be made to the Iowa Masonic Home, or Genesis Visiting Nurse Association - Hospice Care. Survivors include her extended family, Dennis and Pat Rose, Davenport; and an aunt and several cousins.

Richard Cathelyn
CAMBRIDGE, Ill. -- Funeral Mass for Richard E. Cathelyn, of Cambridge, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery , Atkinson. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge Chapel, where a Christian wake service will be at 8 p.m. Mr. Cathelyn died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999 at his home. He worked at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo, for 20 years. He was born Aug. 3, 1953, in Geneseo. He married Lori Gustafson in 1997 in Cambridge. Memorials may be made to the Richard Cathelyn Memorial Fund. Survivors include his wife, Lori; stepsons, Christopher and Jason Gustafson, both of Cambridge; his mother, Berniece Cathelyn, Geneseo; a sister, Carolyn VanOpdorp, Atkinson; and brothers, David, Annawan, and Lynn, Atkinson.

Elsie Smock
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Elsie L. Smock, of Kewanee, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. Burial will be in Andover Cemetery . Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. She had worked in restaurants and in private homes for families. Elsie Grunwalt was born Aug. 27, 1908, in Emden, Mo. She married Ralph Eilts in 1924 in Shelbyville, Mo. She married James Smock in 1965 in Kewanee. He died in 1975. Memorials may be made to a charity of donor's choice. Survivors include a daughter, Verna Anderson, Alpha; a son, Elmer Eilts, Kewanee; seven grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Leo G. Miller, 68
BETTENDORF -- Leo G. Miller, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, after a valiant struggle to regain his former vigor and sparkle to be among and with his many family, friends and clients. Leo died of complications developed after surgery for pancreatic cancer. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Chapel, on the St. Ambrose University campus, Davenport. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens following the service. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Leo George Miller was born March 1, 1931, in Davenport to Leo Nicholas and Mary (Brennan) Miller. He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy in 1949. After serving four years in the United States Navy, Leo returned to Iowa, where he attended St. Ambrose College and was graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He married Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Osborn in 1956. She died in 1981. He married Sandra Foster Clements in 1986. Leo was active in his community throughout his life. In earlier years, he was president of both the Parish Council and the Parish School Board of St. Paul the Apostle Church. He also held appointments to many boards of local community organizations, including Hospice Care, the United Cerebral Palsy Association and the Davenport Chamber of Commerce. He was an advisor to Junior Achievement, a council member for the Advancement & Support of Higher Education and he served as executive secretary of the St. Ambrose Alumni Association. Leo loved people and nature. He enjoyed nurturing all plants, especially roses, hostas and native grasses. He saw beauty and the blessings in all of God's creations and leaves that legacy to all that were lucky enough to have known him. Gardening, fishing, music and the enjoyment of being outdoors were an integral part Leo's personal time for many years. Leo was happiest outside whether digging in his roses, trying out one of his newest fishing poles or playing his banjo. His recent interests reflected this dynamic love of life and beauty. He was a member of Master Gardeners of Scott County, Scott County Extension Board of Master Gardeners, Board of the Friends of Vander Veer, City of Davenport Strategic Planning Committee for Parks and Recreation, Steering Committee for Vander Veer Botanical Park's Master Plan, The Garden Growers, Mississippi Valley Hosta Society, Tri-City Rose Club and Friends of the Wapsi Center. Perhaps one of Leo's finest achievements was to be one of the founding members of The Garden Growers Quad-Cities Community Gardening Program. This program strives to develop small pockets of beautiful gardens throughout the Quad-City area to promote education, social interaction and beautification of neighborhoods. He was also a member of the St. Ambrose University Alumni Association, the Presidents Club of St. Ambrose University, the Kiwanis Club, the Davenport Country Club, the Outing Club, Pinnacle Country Club and the Fyre Lake Association. In his professional life, Leo served as the vice president of Development at St. Ambrose University for 18 years. In 1979, Leo became a securities broker with Dain, Kalman & Quail (now Dain Rauscher), where he was most recently employed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of Vander Veer, The Garden Growers, St. Ambrose University or to your favorite charity. Please consider those which ignite the love of the human spirit or carries the message of God. Leo is survived by his wife Sandra and his children by blood and by choice and their partners. They are Leo Joseph and Mary Miller, South Bend, Ind., Ann and Dr. Tom DeSalvo Jr., Eldridge, Iowa, Therese and Jim Rix, Dubuque, Iowa, Michael David Miller, Davenport, Jane Marie Miller, Madison, Wis., Kris Clements and Deb Chambers, Eagle River, Wis., and Scott and Joan Clements, Bettendorf; and 12 grandchildren. Leo is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, David and Joan Miller, Des Moines; nieces, nephews and cousins; his mother-in-law, Edna (Mimi) Foster; and his devoted dog, Suki. Particularly fortunate are those who were touched by his "Leprechaun spirit" of optimism and pure joy of life.

James C. 'Bud' Burchett
DAVENPORT -- Services for James C. "Bud" Burchett, a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m.Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Mr. Burchett died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Davenport, after a brief illness. James Clyde Burchett was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Tripp County, S.D., the son of James Cleveland and Emma (Coon) Burchett. He married Ruth W. Conway on April 14, 1948, in Davenport. She preceded him in death April 23, 1984. He attended Grand River Iowa High School, graduating in 1935. Mr. Burchett retired after several years service at International Harvester as an inspector. He had previously worked for Bendix Corp., Davenport. During this time, he had also been self-employed in sales for many years. He was a member of the church. The things he enjoyed most in life were the times spent with his family. Memorials can be made to the church or a favorite charity. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Stephen Edmond, Davenport; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Peggy Burchett, Davenport, and James and Ingrid Ellis, Poulsbo, Wash.; grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Sarah, Becky and Andrea; five great-grandchildren; a half sister, Roberta Cochran, Des Moines; and a very dear friend and companion, Grace Grisham, Davenport. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clark Burchett, 1966, and a sister, Leona Moeller, June 1999. May they rest in peace.

Laverne Johnson
EAST MOLINE -- Laverne Johnson, of East Moline, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home. There will be no services. His body was cremated. Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Johnson was born May 18, 1921, in Rapids City, Ill., the son of Clarence and Anne Johnson. He married Lucille Ulveck on Feb. 20, 1964, in Rock Island. He worked as a painter in the Quad-City area, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and bowling. Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Joyce Bartrom, Moline; and a granddaughter, Tanya Bartrom. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Edward J. Wyffels
GENESEO, Ill. -- Services for Edward J. Wyffels, of Geneseo, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Ronald Webb will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery , Geneseo. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. Mr. Wyffels died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999 at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Edward Wyffels was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Phenix Township, Henry County, the son of Alphonse and Blanche (Vandersnick) Wyffels. He married Berdine Hutchinson on Oct. 7, 1942, in Starke, Fla. He worked in management at International Harvester, East Moline, for almost 40 years, retiring in June 1980. In retirement with his wife, they had been antique doll collectors, dealers and appraisers. Mr. Wyffels was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo, and AARP He also had been a member of the United Federation of Doll Clubs for 20 years. He had served as a judge at antique doll competitions for the U.F.D.C. at national and regional conventions throughout the U.S. He enjoyed yard work, his dogs and his grandchildren. During World War II, Mr. Wyffels served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Infantry, in both the European and the Pacific Theaters. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Berdine; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Phillip Jahn, Prophetstown; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Janice (Hoogerwerf) Wyffels, Geneseo, Dr. Patrick and Terry (Zimmerman) Wyffels, Peoria, Stephen and Debra (Loucks) Wyffels, Geneseo and Kendall Wyffels, Geneseo; eight grandchildren, Brian, Brent, Brad and Brock Wyffels, Emily and Jenni Wyffels, Ty Wyffels and Kyle Jahn; his sister, Arlene Seeds, Moline; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Genevieve Wyffels, Moline, Vernon and Elaine Wyffels and James and Betsy Wyffels; all of Geneseo. Many special nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Norman Lee Gressman
DAVENPORT -- Services for Norman Lee Gressman, of Davenport, will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at the mortuary. Norman died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his home in Davenport. Norman was born July 10, 1925, in Davenport, the son of Arnold and Ella (Rowald) Gressman. He married Delores J. Bernauer on Oct. 18, 1947, in Muscatine, Iowa. He was employed as a custodian at Buchanan Elementary School, Davenport, for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Gressman was an avid bowler on various senior leagues. He enjoyed playing cards and especially spending time with his canine companion, Tiffany, his pet schnauzer. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Scott County VNA Hospice Association. Survivors include his wife, Delores Gressman, Davenport; and a daughter, Judy Gressman, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marshall Reynolds
CORDOVA, Ill. -- Marshall E. Reynolds, of Cordova, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was an electrical engineer, having worked for the Admiral Corp. for many years. Mr. Reynolds was born Aug. 17, 1904, in Cordova. He married Emma Strickland in 1933 in Chicago. He later married Vera Johnson in 1950 in Port Byron. She died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Adams, San Antonio; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Lena Moran; and a brother, Harold Reynolds, both of Cordova.

Delmar Kaufman
COAL VALLEY, Ill. -- Services for Delmar Joseph Kaufman, of Coal Valley, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gospel Assembly, Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Mr. Kaufman died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He was a tool and die maker at the Rock Island Arsenal for the past 16 years, last working in August due to his illness. He was born April 6, 1946, in Bloomington. He married Cleta Simmons in 1969 in East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife, Cleta; a daughter, Heather Hyatt; a son, Todd, both of Port Byron; three grandchildren; his mother, Gladys Kaufman, East Moline; and two brothers, Marion, Port Byron, and Ronald, Moline.

David Stenson Sr.
DAVENPORT -- Services for David B. Stenson Sr., of Davenport, will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in a local cemetery. Mr. Stenson died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his home. He was the owner and operator of the Interstate RV Park and Campgrounds, Davenport, since 1991, and was formerly employed as a carpenter in St. Charles, Mo. Mr. Stenson was born April 9, 1951, in Leeds, N.D. He married Diana Young in 1981 in Missouri. Survivors include his wife, Diana; daughters, Krystal Collier, Davenport, and Carrie Stenson, Winston Salem, N.C.; sons, David II and Jonathan, both of Winston Salem; six grandchildren; a sister, Betty Branscum, St. Peters, Mo.; and a brother, James, Steadman, Mo.

Alberta Minick
COAL VALLEY, Ill. -- Memorial services for Alberta "Granny" Minick, of Coal Valley, will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Mrs. Minick died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Alberta Joyce was born Aug. 17, 1936, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She married Leslie Hulting in 1952. She married Wallace Pulfrey in 1964. She then married Brent Minick in 1979 in East Moline. He died in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Pulfrey, Silvis; sons, Leslie Jr. and David Hulting, both of Moline, and Steven Hulting, Vincennes, Ind.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Lillian Ray, Tracy, Iowa, and Connie Witt, Portsmouth; and a brother, Rex Witt, East Moline.

Paula Breeden
LeCLAIRE, Iowa -- Paula J. Breeden, of LeClaire, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Private services will be Wednesday. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. She was an operator for AT&T, Davenport. Paula Alexander was born Aug. 26, 1954, in Moline. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include a daughter, Kerie Mora, Moline; two grandchildren; her parents, Kermit and Jean Alexander, Silvis, Ill.; and two brothers, Robert Alexander, Barstow, Ill., and Allen Alexander, East Moline.

Otto Banderob
DAVENPORT -- Services for Otto P. Banderob, of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today at the mortuary. Mr. Banderob died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his home. He retired in 1979 as a tool and die maker at International Harvester, Moline. He previously worked at ACME sign company, Davenport, as a glass blower. He was born Feb. 18, 1908, in Holstein, Germany. He married Rosa Banderob in Davenport. She died in 1985. He then married Betty Duncan in 1986 in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Hospice or Visiting Nurses. Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Tam Quillin, Cleveland, Ill.; a stepson, Mike Konitzer, Colona, Ill.; four step-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter, Moline.
