CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Marie E. Bertramsen, formerly of 1306 2nd Ave. S., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Miss Bertramsen died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton. She was employed as a clerk in the automobile license department at Clinton County Courthouse and worked several years in the office at the former Brandt Auto Co., Clinton. She was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Clinton. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include a brother, Clifford Bertramsen, Camanche.

Melvin Mohr
PRESTON, Iowa -- Services for Melvin J. Mohr, of Preston, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery , with military services. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. Mr. Mohr died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. He was principal of Preston High School for 30 years and then became the high school guidance counselor. He retired from the school district in 1981. In earlier years, he taught and coached at Preston High School and taught for a year in Springville. He was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Bloomfield, Neb. He married Helen Geronsin in 1943 in Preston. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary, Coralville; five grandchildren; and a brother, Arlen, Frederickburg.

Laurel Lindgren
NEW WINDSOR, Ill. -- Laurel E. Lindgren, of New Windsor, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church, New Windsor. Burial will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery . Visitation is 5-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. Mrs. Lindgren was employed as a bank teller at Viola Bank and retired from the National Bank, Aledo. She also worked at Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois, New Windsor. She was widely known for her gift of musical talent on the piano and organ. Laurel Hughes was born June 27, 1928, in Griffin. She married Mahlon Lindgren in 1949 in New Windsor. He died in 1988. Memorials may be made to Society For Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Inc., Baltimore, Md., or Mercer County Home Support Services, Aledo. Survivors include daughters, Lorrie Crose, Aledo, and Julie Spivey, New Windsor; four grandchildren; a step-grandson; sisters, Norma Hines, Novato, Calif., and Donna Bollbach, Bullhead City, Ariz.; and a brother, Kenneth Hughes, New Windsor.

Michael Cumberworth
NEW BOSTON, Ill. -- Services for Michael J. Cumberworth, of New Boston, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Leech Cemetery , Eliza. Mr. Cumberworth died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in San Bernadino Calif., while on business. He most recently owned and operated Admiral Merchants Motor Freight. He first worked at Moline Consumers and retired after 18 years of service. He owned and operated DeCap's/DAM Inn in East Moline for eight years. He was born June 23, 1942, in Cordele, Ga. He married Joan McKeag in 1965 in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Eliza Community Church. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Charlotte Renee Fuller, Eliza, Rhonda Brady, Keithsburg, and Jamie Cumberworth, at home; seven grandchildren; his mother Aline Cumberworth, Peru, Ill.; and seven sisters and six brothers, who live across the country.

Dessal Vance
ALEDO, Ill. -- Services for Dessal Loving Vance, of Aledo, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Peniel Cemetery , Joy. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Vance died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Lynncrest Manor, Aledo. She was employed several years at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Dessal Harter was born Feb. 2, 1912, in Silvis. She married Roy Loving in 1935. He died in 1949. She married Warren Vance in 1957 in Aledo. He died in 1985. Survivors include a son, Larry Loving, Alpha; stepchildren, Audrey Fulton, Everett, Wash., Mary Anderson and Warren Vance Jr., both of Medford, Ore., and Barb Miller, Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edwin Harter, Joy.

Jean Martinez
BUFFALO, Iowa -- Services for Jean G. Martinez, of Buffalo, will be 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mrs. Martinez died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Jean Greta Garcia was born Dec. 30, 1932, in Davenport, to George and Margaret (Foreman) Garcia. She married Raymond Martinez on Feb. 8, 1951, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. She was a CASI meal site manager at the LULAC Club and retired after 20 years. She served as an officer and was a member of LULAC Council 10. She was chosen Woman of the Year for LULAC Council 10 and also National LULAC. She was a very dedicated volunteer for the LULAC Scholarship Fund. Her hobbies included bingo. She received the key to the city of Davenport for her volunteerism from Mayor Pat Gibbs. She also was a Cub Scout and Camp Fire Girls leader. Memorials may be made to LULAC Scholarship Fund Council 10. Survivors include her husband, Raymond; daughters, Vicki Martinez, Davenport, and Becky Lindholm, Decatur, Ill.; sons, Ray Martinez Jr., Davenport, Steve Martinez, Woodland, Calif., Mike Martinez, Davenport, and Dave Martinez, Fisher, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Millie Estes, West Palm Beach, Fla., Eloise Bribriesco, Bettendorf, and Margaret Cervantes and Joan Lopez, both of Davenport; brothers, Lloyd Garcia, Davenport, and Carl Garcia, Bettendorf. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Gary and Rodney; daughter-in-law, Brenda Craig-Martinez; sisters, Wanda Nemeyer, Lucille Rodriguez and Betty Padilla; and brothers, George and Albert Garcia.

Otto Kurtz Jr.
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Otto W. Kurtz Jr., of 2646 31st Ave., will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today at the funeral home and 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday. Mr. Kurtz died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at his home. He had worked at the former Cashway Lumber Co., Davenport. He was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Rock Island, to Otto and Lydia (Koenig) Kurtz Sr. He graduated in 1949 from Rock Island High School, where he was a member of the football team. Mr. Kurtz was a member of Church of Peace United Church of Christ, Rock Island. He was an avid Rock Island High School and Chicago Cubs sports fan. Memorials may be made to Rock Island High School athletics. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Peg and Roger Nothdorf, Rock Island, with whom he lived; nieces, Cindy Courtney, Brunswick, Ohio, and Debbie Boswell, Morton, Ill., and six grandnieces and grandnephews.

Alice Bishop
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Alice M. Bishop, of Kewanee, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Osceola Cemetery . Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Bishop died Monday, March 29, 1999, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, after an automobile accident. She was employed as a licensed practical nurse at area nursing homes and in private duty. Alice Grant was born Oct. 30, 1933, in Saxon. She married Robert Hufnagel in 1954. He died in 1986. She married Robert Bishop in 1996 in Kewanee. Memorials may be made to Free Methodist Church, Kewanee. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Denna Schultz, Knights Landing, Calif.; sons, Robert, Michael and Kenneth Hufnagel, all of Kewanee; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her mother, Esther Grant, Kewanee; sisters, Nancy Haptonstall, Kewanee, and Grace Hufnagel, Montrose, Mich.; and brothers, Charles Grant, Kewanee, James Grant, Montrose, and Phillip Grant, Waukegan.

Virginia Truninger
SAVANNA, Ill. -- Virginia E. Truninger, of Savanna, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Savanna. Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Inurnment will be in Savanna Township Cemetery . Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Truninger was employed for many years as a seamstress at Savanna Garment Factory. She also a drove a school bus for Ritchie Bus Service, Savanna. Virginia Casselberry was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Savanna. She married Henry Truninger in 1937 in Savanna. He died in 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Crisci, Bensenville; a son, Jim, Rockford; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Casselberry, Mount Carroll.

Sarah Gaudet
PEABODY, Mass. -- Services for Sarah Goldstein Gaudet, of Peabody, formerly of Chelsea, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Smith Funeral Home, Chelsea. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery , Everett. Mrs. Gaudet died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Atlanticare Union Hospital, Lynn, after a brief illness. She was employed for 20 years as a presser at Sterlings Cleaners and Koiles Cleaners. Sarah Goldstein was born in Boston. She married Edward Gaudet, who preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA, 01701, or American Lung Association of Massachusetts, 1505 Commonwealth Ave., Brighton, MA, 02135. Wilma Curtis
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Wilma M. Curtis, of Moline, formerly of Kewanee, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee. Mrs. Curtis died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at her home. Wilma Walker was born May 1, 1916, in Marseilles. She married Merlin Curtis in 1933 in Lacon. He died in 1997. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Survivors include daughters, Irene Rowland, Geneseo, Verna Brooks, Winfield, Mo., and Myrna Simmons, Colona; a son, Ted, Hooppole; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Leona Cauldwell, Peoria, Ruth Allen, Palo Verde, Ariz., Velda Waldo, Tremont, and Dora Ogg, Houston.

Gilbert Damhoff
MORRISON, Ill. -- Services for Gilbert J. Damhoff, of 22327 Carol Rd., Morrison, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison, preceded by a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. in the church chapel. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery , Morrison. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison. Mr. Damhoff died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling. He was a self-employed dairy farmer in the rural Lyndon area. He then farmed north of Morrison in the White Pigeon area while working as a security guard for Burns Security at the Byron nuclear power plant. He farmed until the time of his death. He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Garden Plain Township. He married Frances T. Buikema in Morrison in 1946. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Faye Kos, Wellman, Iowa, Susan Eyrich, Tony, Ill., and Sally Johannsen, Morrison; sons, Russ, Dixon, Rodney and William, both of Morrison, and Mike, Sterling; 15 grandchildren; and a brother, Jacob Damhoff, Erie.

Mr. Wilson died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal as a logistics manager for 20 years. He was born Nov. 14, 1952, in Chicago. Survivors include sons, Terence Clark, East Moline, and Lavonti Wright, Rock Island; and brothers, Kenneth, Henry and Edward, all of Chicago, and Donald, Pittsburg, Calif.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Krainz died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Wyndcrest Nursing Home, Clinton. She was a homemaker and had been employed at Warren Industry, Camanche. Mary Bia was born May 27, 1914, in Radley, Kan., to Emile and Marie (Davis) Bia. She married Joseph A. Krainz on Jan. 28, 1933, in Girard, Kan. He died in 1991. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Camanche, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 65, Camanche. She enjoyed crafts and playing the piano. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Camanche, and Eastern Star Chapter 65, Camanche. Survivors include a daughter, Janice (Mrs. Larry) Cook, Camanche; a son, Joe Krainz, Lake Ozark, Mo.; five grandsons; and five great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

ROCK ISLAND -- John R. "Bud" Winter, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Winter retired in 1972 as a truck driver after 38 years at Dohrn Transfer. He was born May 16, 1911, in Belleville, Ill. He married Thelma King in 1932 in Belleville. She died in 1982. He married Helen Lewis in 1982 in Moline. He served in the Navy from 1926 to 1930. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or First Christian Church, Moline. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jacqueline Owens, East Moline; stepdaughters, Dianna Stropes, Milan, Ill., and Gloria Alderson, Virginia Beach, Va.; sons: James, Biloxi, Miss., and Gilbert, Savanna, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

DAVENPORT -- Services for Cordell Malik Allen, stillborn son of Theresa T. Jackson and Lardell Allen, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. today at Fairmount Cemetery , Davenport. Cordell Malik was stillborn Saturday, March 27, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Orr's Mortuary, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery , Fulton. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Fulton Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. He farmed in the Spring Valley area and worked for Millview Feed Service. He was employed by the City of Fulton for 11 years, retiring in 1981. He was born Jan. 15., 1919, in Coleta. He married Gertrude Dykstra in 1942 in Fulton. She died in 1986. He married Elsie L. Letcher in 1988 in Clinton, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God Church, Fulton. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Linda Timmer, Preston, Iowa, and Shirley Springer, Morrison; a step-daughter, Diane Berry, Bettendorf; stepsons, Wayne Letcher, Clinton, Iowa, Charles Letcher, Fulton, and Robert Letcher, Schaumburg; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Meyer, Morrison.

Kenneth Lange
ALBANY, Ill. -- Services for Kenneth L. Lange, of Albany, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The body will be cremated. Inurnment will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Mr. Lange died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Samaritan Health System, Clinton. He retired in 1982 after more than 30 years as a union carpenter in Davenport. He was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Davenport. He married Beverly Mercer in 1947 in Davenport. During World War II, he served in the Army. Memorials made be made to a favorite charity. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Stick, Davenport; a son, Kenneth, Fort Dodge, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
