MOLINE -- Services for Jacqueline Ann Humes, of Moline, will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services. Mrs. Hume died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at her home. Jacqueline Simmons was born July 14, 1930, in Moline. She married William R. Humes in 1950 in Moline. Memorials may be made to Family Resources Inc. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Patricia Rose, Bettendorf, Nancy J. Humes, Somerville, Mass., and Mary Anderson, Claremore, Okla.; sons, Robert Humes, Davenport, and Thomas Humes, Cundys Harbor, Maine; six grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Lee Simmons, Peoria.

James DeCap
RAPIDS CITY, Ill. -- Services for James R. "Frog" DeCap, of Rapids City will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in Rapids City Cemetery . Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. DeCap died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at his home. He was a former co-owner of DeCap's Trucking and Excavating, Rapids City, and was self-employed as a carpenter and painter. He was born Aug. 9, 1943, in Moline. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Fuller, Davenport; sons, Joseph, Moline, and David, East Moline; five grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy DeCap, Rapids City; a sister, Joyce Hugart, Port Byron; and a brother, John, Colona.

Wayne Burton
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Wayne Holst Burton, of 2302 41st St., will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. The Rev. John Younker will officiate. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Burton died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He retired in July 1989 as a letter carrier after 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service in Rock Island. He was born June 19, 1924, in Davenport, to Ingwer R. and Freda M. (Holst) Burton. He married Patricia Ockee on Oct. 3, 1948, in Rock Island. During World War II, he served as a private first class in the Army. He was a member of Memorial Heights United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men and National Association of Letter Carriers. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. Memorials may be made to Memorial Heights United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Ed Avila, Moline; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Julie Burton, Rock Island; and grandchildren, Dayne Burton, and Kelli and Joshua Avila. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ruth Peterson
ORION, Ill. -- Services for Ruth E. Peterson, of Orion, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Orion United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery , Orion. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Mrs. Peterson died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Loyola Hospital, Maywood, Ill. She was employed as a cook at Bishops Cafeteria in Davenport and had worked in the dietary department at the former Moline Public Hospital. Ruth E. Gustafson was born May 18, 1915, in New Windsor, to Charles and Anna Marie (Carlson) Gustafson. She married Glenn C. Peterson on Jan. 26, 1935, in Monmouth. He died April 20, 1991. She was a member of Orion United Methodist Church, Loving Stitches (quilting club) of the church, Senior Citizens and St. Paul's Lutheran Quilters Group. She enjoyed embroidering and crocheting. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include daughters, Gloria Hancock, Orion, and Nancy Rossi and spouse, Richard, Orion; sons, Ronald Peterson and spouse, Martha, Bettendorf, Wendell Peterson and spouse, Helen, Davenport, and Larry W. Peterson and spouse, Cheryl, Orion; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Martin Gustafson; and sisters, Hulda Cook, Ethel Nelson and Nellie Peterson.

Clifford Engeland
ROCK ISLAND --Clifford J. Engeland, of Rock Island, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Monday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Mr. Engeland was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Davenport. He married Ruth Fiedler in 1942 in Kahoka, Mo. He retired in 1976 as a metal grinding machine operator after working for more than 30 years at Caterpillar. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Kathleen Albertson, New Canaan, Conn., Eva Pierce, Cherry Valley, Ill., Dee Dee Engeland and Annette Porter, both of Rock Island; sons, George and John Engeland, both of Rock Island; 15 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-granddaughters.

Debra Clendenin
MOLINE -- Services for Debra A. Clendenin, of 2327 Hidden Meadow Lane, Ballwin, Mo., will be 4 p.m. today at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Clendenin died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis. She was employed as a purchasing agent at Allied Health Care, St. Louis. Before that, she worked 15 years at John Deere Plow Planter. Debra Clymer was born Nov. 5, 1940, in Moline. She married Steven Massie in 1960 in Moline. She married Jack Clendenin in 1978 in Rock Island. Survivors include daughters, Paige Massie, St. Louis, and Brooke Transano, Salem, Mo.; a son, Michael Massie, Philadelphia; a grandson; sisters, Pam Dalman, Ada, Mich., Pennie Davis, Dubuque, Iowa, Kim Leiter, Grand Rapids, Mich., Jan Lievens, Moline, and Jill Williams, Ballwin; and her mother, Bettie Marlier.

Wilber Geiger
DAVENPORT -- Wilber L. Geiger, of Marshalltown, formerly of Davenport, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at VA Central Iowa Health Care Center, Des Moines. There will be no local services. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be in Oakridge Cemetery , Hillside, Ill., at a later date. He had worked as a pipe fitter out of the Pipe Fitters Union in Chicago. Mr. Geiger was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Canal Point, Fla. He married Rose Garven. They later divorced. He married Bonnie Matter. She died in 1989. He served in the Navy from 1947-1950. Survivors include a daughter, Wendy Carter, Blue Grass, Iowa; a son, Wilber Geiger, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne Geiger, Melbourne, Ark.

Virginia 'Didge' Neuhaus
FAIRFAX, Iowa -- Services for Virginia "Didge" Neuhaus, of Fairfax, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, with a Rosary at 7 p.m., and 9:30-10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Neuhaus died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. She had worked for several years at Our Lady of Lourdes School, Bettendorf. Virginia Mottet was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Iowa City. She married Marvin Strang in 1952. He died in 1979. She married David Neuhaus in 1985 in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Mercy or Xavier High School Foundation, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Stacie Strang-Romano, Rockaway, N.J.; sons, Steve Strang, Casper, Wyo., Kevin Slater, Cedar Rapids, and Patrick Slater, Fairfax; and 10 grandchildren.

Alice Ernst
IOWA CITY -- Services for Alice I. Ernst, of Iowa City, will be 9 a.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery , rural Iowa City. Barker Funeral Home, West Branch, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ernst died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Lantern Park Care Center, Coralville, Iowa. Alice Jackson was born Dec. 5, 1906, near Blanchardville, Wis. She married Carl Ernst in 1938. He preceded her in death. She and her husband had farmed in Johnson County. Before her marriage, she had worked as a nanny for the family of John Dawson, who was dean of Engineering at the University of Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Theo 'Tissy' Grover
FREDONIA, Iowa -- Services for Theo D. "Tissy" Grover, of Fredonia, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Columbus City Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Grover died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Colonial Manor Care Center, Columbus Junction. She had worked for more than 50 years as a bookkeeper at Century Co. and Duesters Co., Cedar Rapids. Theo Duncan was born Sept. 3, 1904, in Ainsworth. She married Bert Grover in 1941 in Lancaster, Mo. He preceded her in death. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Robert Barr
DAVENPORT -- Robert Earl Barr, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Davenport, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. There will be no services or visitation. Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Barr was born Nov. 29, 1917, to William and Carrie (Sawyer) Barr in Davenport. He married Janette L. Kuehl on June 5, 1942, in Bettendorf. He graduated from Iowa State University and had worked for 23 years as a building plans examiner for the City of Sarasota, retiring in 1983. He previously had been self-employed and had farmed in rural Scott County. Mr. Barr was a member of Lions Club International and Summit Presbyterian Church in Davenport and the Sarasota Optimist Club and First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Sarasota. Survivors include his wife; a sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and Frank Ede, Davenport; nieces, Sandra Delfs, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Diane Fogler, New Jersey, and Pam Wigton, Arizona; and nephews, Dan Koch, Davenport, and Marshall Kuehl, Ohio.

Bonita Nourse
COLONA, Ill. -- Services for Bonita M. Nourse, of Colona, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Family Funeral Services, Colona. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Nourse died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. She was a homemaker. Bonita Bryant was born Dec. 1, 1931, in Alexandria, Mo. She married William Nourse in 1948 in Montrose, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sherry Thompson, Normal; sons, Larry Nourse, Rock Island, and William Nourse, Normal; four grandchildren; and brothers, Eugene Bryant, Kahoka, Mo., Mike Russell, Lomax, and Richard Russell, Danville, Iowa.

Mary Della Vedova
OTTUMWA, Iowa -- Services for Mary N. Della Vedova, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Ottumwa. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Ottumwa. Visitation with the family begins at 2 p.m. today at Robertson-Jay Funeral Home, Ottumwa, with a Christian Wake service at 4 p.m. Open visitation will last until 9 p.m. Mrs. Della Vedova died Thursday, April 8, 1999. Mary Boyd was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo. She married Dominic Della Vedova in 1944 in Ottumwa. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, in care of Barb Olsowski, P.O. Box 331, Ottumwa, IA 52501. Survivors include her husband; sons, John, Norwalk, Iowa, Larry, Cary, Ill., and Richard, Mendota Heights, Minn.; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Ruth Brooks, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Frances Columbus
DAVENPORT -- Services for Frances E. Columbus, of Arkoma, Okla., formerly of Davenport, will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is noon until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Columbus died Thursday, April 8, 1999, in Arkoma, Okla. She had worked as a housekeeper at the former St. Luke's Hospital. Frances Foster was born May 6, 1908, to Robert and Elizabeth (Thomason) Foster in Centerville, Iowa. She married Mike Columbus on Aug. 16, 1923. He preceded her in death in 1977. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Survivors include daughters, Bernice Lambert, Arkoma, Josephine Curtis, Mystic, Iowa, Ann Adams, Roseville, Calif., and Velma Houser and Teresa Pearrow, both of Longview, Texas; a son, Joe Columbus, Fort Smith, Ark.; 25 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bethel Spies; a son, Richard Columbus; and a brother, George Foster.

Patricia Wiersema
FULTON, Ill. -- Patricia L. Wiersema, of Fulton, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at her home. Private family services will be held Monday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery . There is no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Patricia Shipma was born July 14, 1940, in Clinton, Iowa. She married Irving Wiersema in 1960 in Fulton. She had worked as a secretary at Eclipse Lumber Co., Clinton. She also had worked in a clerical position for the Riverbend School District, Fulton. Memorials may be made to First Reformed Church, Fulton, or the Fulton Presbyterian Church Building Fund. Survivors include her husband; sons, Michael Wiersema, Fulton, and Bryan Wiersema, Thomson; one granddaughter; and her mother, Pearl Shipma, Fulton.

Herbert Kummerfeldt
DAVENPORT -- Herbert Kummerfeldt, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is noon until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. He had been employed for 20 years at Oscar Mayer and Co., Davenport. He also had worked for the Davenport Public School System. Mr. Kummerfeldt was born May 4, 1914, to John and Emilie (Heick) Kummerfeldt in Bennett, Iowa. He married Harriet Kroeger on Oct. 12, 1956, in Barstow, Ill. He served in the Navy during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star medal. He was a member of High Point Bible Chapel, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family, High Point Bible Chapel or Davenport Bible Fellowship. Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Becky Kummerfeldt, Davenport; a daughter and son-in-law, Terrie and Jeff Webster, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Amy and Ronald, both of Davenport; and a brother, Fred Kummerfeldt, Wilton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Alice Ryan
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Alice M. Ryan, of Rock Island, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Virtues-Moline Gospel Temple. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Mrs. Ryan died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She had worked for 20 years at East Moline Pressed Steel Co. She also had worked in the housekeeping department at the former Moline Public Hospital. Alice Ryan was born Oct. 8, 1911, in East Moline. Memorials may be made to Moline Gospel Temple. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Stokley, LaCanada, Calif.; sons, Donald and Robert Hull, both of Port Byron, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Ann Pearl Ryan, and a sister, Hazel Lindshield, both of East Moline.

Thomas Spraetz
SAVANNA, Ill. -- Thomas C. Spraetz, of Savanna, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Community General Hospital, Sterling. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. today at the family's home in Savanna. Mr. Spraetz was employed as a rehabilitation counselor for the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services since 1964. He was born Nov. 17, 1939, in Rochelle. He married Jeanne Byers in 1987 in Savanna. He served in Army as a staff sergeant in Korea from 1958 to 1960. He then joined the Army Reserves. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sarah Spraetz-Brubaker, and a son, Ryan, both of Savanna; a sister, Mary Watts, Broken Arrow, Okla.; and brothers, Robert, DeKalb, and Dennis, Woodstock.
