Clifford Larson
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Clifford J. Larson, of Fort Worth, former director of the Muscatine (Iowa) Art Center, died Monday, April 12, 1999, in Fort Worth, of complications from Alzheimer's Disease. Mr. Larson was director of Muscatine Art Center from 1968 to 1979. In earlier years, he taught art history and studio courses at Drury College, Springfield, Mo. During World War II, he served four years in the Army Air Corps. Cremation is planned, but no funeral will be held at the request of the deceased. The family request no flowers, but memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Muscatine Art Center. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marion; a daughter, Karen Duncan, Melbourne, Australia; a grandson; and a sister, Joyce Larson Scanlon, Hamden, Conn.

Chauncey Hamilton
PHOENIX -- Chauncey W. "Fritz" Hamilton, of 4235 E. McDowell Road, died April 6, 1999, at the Hospice Center in Phoenix. Services will be 9 a.m. Friday at National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Military services will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, will be in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hamilton was born May 17, 1906, in Moline, to Chauncey and Clara (Mueller) Hamilton. Before moving to Phoenix, Fritz lived in Moline, where he was employed as an inspector at Rock Island Arsenal. He also was employed earlier as a butcher and parts inspector at the former Farmall Works, Rock Island, and at the former Rock Island Lines, Silvis, Ill. While in Moline, he joined the Masons in 1954. On June 5, 1942, he was inducted into the Army. He served as a mess sergeant with the 1st Army 5th Armored Division in Normandy, Paris, Northern France, Belgium, Ardennes and the Rhinelands. He was honorably discharged Oct. 26, 1945, as a staff sergeant in the 235th Quarter Master Corps. As a hobby, he enjoyed breeding and facing pigeons. He had a number of friends and acquaintances in pigeon flying clubs in Phoenix and in the Quad-City area of Illinois. He is survived by his nephews, Terry Hamilton, Springfield, Ohio, and Ray Hamilton, Port Byron, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Helen L. Hamilton, Moline; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George.

Mildred Zickau
CLINTON, Iowa -- Mildred M. Zickau, of Clinton, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Samaritan Hospital North, Clinton. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Mrs. Zickau was a homemaker. Mildred Ringen was born April 17, 1903, in Jackson County. She married Ewald Zickau in 1936 in Clinton. He died in 1971. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include a son, William, Clinton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Florence Hemstock
DAVENPORT -- Services for Florence L. Hemstock, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mrs. Hemstock died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Davenport Good Samaritan Center. Florence Thomsen was born Jan. 15, 1914, in Davenport, to Walter and Ella (Struck) Thomsen. She married John Hemstock on March 31, 1955, in Davenport. He died in 1961. She was a member of Izaak Walton League. Survivors include a sister, Norma Parking, Davenport; and a brother, Harold Thomsen, Kissimmee, Fla. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Elmer and Robert Thomsen.

Grace Anders
MOLINE -- Services for Grace I. Anders, of Pittsfield, Ill., will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Mrs. Anders died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill. Grace Turner was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Saxton, Mo. She married Rex Anders in 1981 in Pittsfield. Survivors include her husband; a son, Don Hartman, Moline; stepsons, Michael Anders, Rock Island, and Leslie Anders, Davenport; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and sisters, Della Abbott, Milan, Ill., and Mary Jo Menees and Pauline Culberson, both of Saxton.

Bergen Kopiske
ROCK ISLAND -- Family memorial services for Bergen Kopiske, infant daughter of Thomas and Brinadene Kopiske, Rock Island, will be held at a later time. Bergen died at birth Monday, April 12, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of local arrangements. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include grandparents, Brian and Holly Zimple, Eldridge, Iowa, and Hans and Christa Kopiske, Rostock, Germany; and great-grandmothers, Jane Fairbanks, Bettendorf, and Edna Zimka, Davenport.

Ronald Buchmeyer
LONG GROVE, Iowa -- Memorial services for Ronald J. Buchmeyer, of Long Grove, will be 1 p.m. today at Park View Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery . Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Ronald was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Buffalo, the son of Joseph Carl and Martha (Thomas) Buchmeyer. He married Patricia Chadwick on Aug. 20, 1955, in Buffalo. Ron was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, in which he served for four years, much of that time during the Korean War. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Horse Shoe Bend, Ark., where he and his wife resided for the past six years. Ron retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as a machinist in 1992. He formerly was employed as a millwright and maintenance engineer at Oscar Mayer and Wonder Bread Bakery, both of Davenport. Many of Pat and Ron's friends will remember their family-owned business, Buchmeyer's Tap in Buffalo, that formerly was owned by his parents, Joe and Martha. Ron loved to fish and golf and had hoped to play one last round with his boys this spring before he lost his battle with lung cancer. Ron was baptized in the Catholic church as a youth. He died surrounded by his wife, daughter and sons April 11, 1999, in Long Grove. Memorials may be made to Park View Lutheran Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Pat; daughter and son-in-law, Ronda and Harold Faigle, Horse Shoe Bend, Ark.; sons and daughters- in-law, Dave and Linda Howard, Long Grove, Joseph and Chris Buchmeyer, Wheatland, Matthew and Lynn Buchmeyer, Lake Villa, Ill., and Marcus and Jamie Buchmeyer Wheatland; and eight grandchildren, Holly, Jennifer, Lisa, Nicole, Ronnie, Joseph C., Daniel and David.

Margaret Dobbelaere
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Margaret L. Dobbelaere, of East Moline, will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with a rosary recited at 4:15 p.m. Mrs. Dobbelaere died Monday, April 12, 1999, at her home. Margaret was born May 11, 1917, in East Moline, to Victor and Octavie (Mouton) De Smet. She married Albert Dobbelaere on June 10, 1939, in East Moline. He died July 1, 1975. She had worked with her husband at St. Mary's Church and School for many years. She was a lifelong resident of East Moline and proud of it. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, where she was a life member. Survivors include a daughter and son in-law, Diane and Richard Van Bell, East Moline; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Margy Dobbelaere, Bettendorf; four grandchildren, Marc Van Bell, Chad Van Bell, Brian Dobbelaere and Jodie Nelson; and a sister, Suzanne De Smyter, East Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lillian Meersman.

Rosemary Lane
DAVENPORT -- Services for Rosemary Lane, of Davenport, will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Lane died Monday, April 12, 1999, at her home. Rosemary Carron was born March 9, 1924, in Rock Island, to Thomas M. and Leah (Potter) Carron. She married Stanley L. Lane on Sept. 6, 1947, in Rock Island. He died Jan. 17, 1986. She was a 1941 graduate of the Villa de Chantel in Rock Island. Mrs. Lane was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Rose was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to laugh and make others smile. Her loving good nature blessed her with many friends throughout her life. Her hobbies included golf, cards and crossword puzzles. MAY SHE REST IN PEACE. In lieu of flowers, flowers memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or Holy Family Education Fund. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and John Roche, Davenport, and Janice and Milo Pollmiller, Davenport; a daughter, Ann Keimig, Des Moines; grandchildren, Melissa and Dan Zeimet, Sara Roche, John W. Roche Jr., Thomas Roche, Andrew and Jaymie Pollmiller, and Katie, Kristin and Kasey Keimig; great-grandchildren, Shanie, Nicholas, Tyler, Sydney and Emilee; a sister, Leah Corken, St. Augustine, Fla.; and a brother, Jim Carron, Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Phyllis Best; and brothers, Thomas and Steve Carron.

Donald Sell
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Donald H. Sell, of 2111 Bidwell Road, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery , Muscatine. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Sell died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Community Health Resources, after a brief illness. He had worked at Muscatine Farm Equipment until March 1999. He farmed and raised Shetland ponies. He was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Muscatine. He married Mabel Christianson in 1937 in Muscatine. He married Dorothy Hartman in 1959 in Pensacola, Fla. Memorials may be made to Boys Town, Omaha, Neb. Survivors include sons, Robert, Aledo, Ill., and Richard, Eliza, Ill.; stepsons, Jerry Hagens, Aledo, and Wally Hartman, Muscatine; a stepdaughter, JoAnn Brauns, Muscatine; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandson.

Arthur Dismer
MOLINE -- Services for Arthur R. Dismer, of Moline, will be today at 9:30 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Dismer died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island. He retired in 1975 as a machinist after 29 years at International Harvester, Farmall Works, Rock Island. He was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Davenport. He married Edith Hofeldt in 1935 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She died in 1968. He married Blanche Bloominger Ruefer in 1975 in Davenport. She died in 1996. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include a sister, Alice Nabb, Clinton, Iowa.

Ruth Modes
EAST MOLINE -- Ruth N. Modes, of 717 17th Ave., died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. The body will be cremated. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Modes retired in 1999 after five years working in home care at Live In Unlimited, Moline. Ruth Willis was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Kewanee, Ill. She married Ford Modes in 1969 in Alton, Ill. He died in 1982. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Survivors include stepchildren, Betty, Pat and Byron; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers, Howard Willis, East Moline, David Willis, Rockford, Ill., and Gerald Willis, Moline.

Ermine Smullen
DAVENPORT -- Ermine M. Smullen, of Davenport, died Tuesday April 13, 1999, at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery , Butler, Mo. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Ermine Hoffman was born Dec. 11, 1906, in Archie, Mo. She married Elmer Smullen in 1926 in Butler, Mo. He died in 1991. Memorials may be made to the Aviary Fund at Fejervary Health Care Center. Survivors include a grandson, Terry Schreyer, Columbia, Md.

Donald Barton
DAVENPORT -- Services for Donald L. Barton, of Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Mr. Barton died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. He had worked at McLaughlin Body Co., Moline. He was born April 18, 1934, in Muscatine, Iowa. He married Stella Atterberry in 1966 in Rock Island. He had served in the Army. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Cynthia Heisler, Fort Myers, Fla., Barbara Barton, Davenport, Darcy Powell, Odesssa, Fla., and Diana Macdougall, Riverside, Calif.; sons, Ron, Clearwater, Fla., Joe, Muscatine, Iowa, and Don C., Bettendorf; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Violet Barton, Santa Barbara, Calif.; and a sister, Janet Hayden, Davenport.

Lilly Erickson
DAVENPORT -- Services for Lilly Erickson, of Davenport, will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Mrs. Erickson died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. She was employed as a cook and retired in 1986 after 32 years at the Park Cafe of the Village of East Davenport. Lilly Peterson was born April 4, 1924, in Strum, Wis. She married Paul Erickson on Aug. 17, 1946, in Whitehall, Wis. He died Feb. 9, 1990. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Kiddoo, Moline, and Sandra and Don Hudson, Davenport; a son, Paul Erickson, Davenport; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Hanson, Eau Claire, Wis., Mavis Hanson, Eau Claire, Wis.; a brother, Dennis Peterson, Whitehall, Wis.; a brother-in-law, John Erickson, Osseo, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret Kuendel
CASSVILLE, Mo. -- Services for Margaret M. "Marge" Kuendel, of Cassville, formerly of Davenport, will be 2 p.m. today at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville. Mrs. Kuendel died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Barry County Care Center, Cassville, after an extended illness. Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville, is in charge of arrangements. She was a homemaker. She was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Davenport. She first married James Behan, who died in 1964. She married Harold Kuendel in 1965 in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church or a favorite charity. Survivors include her husband; a son, James Behan, Davenport; a stepdaughter, Judith Polikov, of North Olmsted, Ohio; a granddaughter; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Mueller, Davenport.

Laura Harvey
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Laura M. Harvey, of Kewanee, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Kewanee. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery , Annawan. Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Harvey was employed many years as a school nurse for the Kewanee Schools. Laura Keets was born Oct. 29, 1903, in Neponset Township, Bureau County. She married Howard Harvey in 1928. He died in a car-train accident in November 1928. During World War II, she was employed as a plant nurse at Walworth Shell Plant. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include five nieces and five nephews.

Victor Dykema
PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. -- Services for Victor J. Dykema, of 310 W. 3rd St., will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Prophetstown. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery . Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison, and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Mr. Dykema died Monday, April 12, 1999, at his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Morrison. He married Josephine Voss in 1936 in Morrison. Memorials may be made to Compassion International Children's Fund. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Joan Jackson, Savanna, and Barbara Bush, Morrison; a son, Dale, Morrison; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Hanson, Scottsdale, Ariz.
