VACAVILLE, Calif. -- Services for Donald Gillam, of Vacaville, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel, Vacaville. Private burial will be held. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Gillam died April 15, 1999, in Las Vegas. He owned and operated Don's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in Vacaville for more than 20 years. He retired as a master sergeant in the Air Force. He was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Brandon, Iowa. Survivors include daughters, Pam Holst, of Iowa, and Marjorie Gillam, Sandra Gillam, Linda Robinson, Sally Frakes and Dawn Riggs, all of Vacaville; nine grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Liles and Valaria Meyerman, of Iowa, and brothers, Keith, of Iowa, and Bill, of Arizona.

Noel Batterson-Reynolds
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Noel Lee Batterson-Reynolds, of 506 Windellwood Circle, Smyrna, Tenn., formerly of Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in the Chippiannock Cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 4- 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Reynolds died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at Murfreesboro, Tenn., after a valiant battle with kidney disease. Due to her great love of all children, she had worked at School Stuff, Fort Myers, Fla., The Learning Path, Gainesville, Fla., and The Parent Teacher Store, Antioch, Tenn. She also spent two years caring for her sister Tera's children in Dallas. Noel dearly loved her pets, as well as all animals, especially ones in need. Through her many difficult illnesses, she never complained and her main concern was the care and comfort of others. She was loved deeply. Noel was born March 7, 1968, in Rock Island, to Howard and Shirley Batterson. She married Kyle Reynolds on May 3, 1991, in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation. Survivors include her husband; her parents of Rock Island; sisters, Joyce Batterson-Fulcher, Savannah, Ga., and Tera Craig and Tana Mickelson, both of Antioch, Tenn.; a brother, Deren Batterson, Moline; five nieces; three nephews; extended family and friends; and her beloved pets, Poe, Bear, Jesus and Momma.

Helen Hiesterman
BLUE GRASS, Iowa -- Services for Helen Dorothy Hiesterman, of Blue Grass, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery . Visitation is noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Mrs. Hiesterman died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Davenport Lutheran Home. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. She was a devoted housewife. Helen Boldt was born July 3, 1915, in Stockton, to George and Emma (Daurer) Boldt. She married George Hiesterman on Aug. 29, 1938, in Deshler, Neb. He died Aug. 27, 1983. Helen was a very special lady who touched many lives. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Association. Survivors include a daughter, Marlene White, Blue Grass; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Barbara Hiesterman, Blue Grass; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verna Beh, Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Louis; and a sister, Irene.

Roy Buckley
BETTENDORF -- Roy Laverne Buckley, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal, with military services. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Buckley retired in 1959 as a first sergeant after 23 years in the Army. He was born Oct. 23, 1916, in Cedar County, Iowa, to Frank Howard and Rena May (Robinson) Buckley. He married Mary Bacon on Oct. 13, 1945, in Elkader, Iowa. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Florence (Mrs. Cliff) Robertson, Davenport; a brother-in-law, Glen Bacon, Lebanon, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Ruth Davis, River Grove, Ill., and Tina Stotts, Fort Madison, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and a special nephew, Gary Davis and his spouse Dale, Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.

Yolanda Hora
WEST BRANCH, Iowa -- Services for Yolanda Hora, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Branch Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home, West Branch. Mrs. Hora died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Crestview Care and Rehabilitation Center, West Branch, after an extended illness. Yolanda Palik was born Feb. 25, 1906, in New York City. She married John Hora in 1928 in Iowa City. The couple farmed in the West Branch area. Memorials may be made to the Rebecca Lodge or the care center. Survivors include sons, John and Jaro, both of West Branch; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Emil Palik, Tulsa, Okla., and Robert Palik, Richmond, Va.

Maynard Marquis
MILLERSBURG, Ill. -- Services for Maynard B. Marquis, of Millersburg, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo. The Rev. Donna K. Medlock of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Millersburg Cemetery , with military services by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1571 of Aledo. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Marquis died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Maynard was employed as a tool grinder at John Deere Plow and Planter Works, Moline, from where he retired in 1983. He was born on March 20, 1918, in Aledo, to Dr. Maynard and Bess (Thornton) Marquis. He married Lucille Liebig on March 16, 1945. They lived and worked on the family farm in Millersburg. Maynard graduated from Aledo High School and attended Monmouth College for one year before he entered military service. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 24, 1941, and was attached to the 8th Infantry Division at Camp Grant. He saw action on Normandy Beach, France and Luxenburg. He was in the Normandy Invasion D-Day plus 28, which was July 4, 1944. Having fought through France to Luxenburg, he became ill and was transferred to the main Army hospital outside of London. He returned to the States in February 1945 and was discharged from Camp Carson, Colo., on June 30, 1945. Maynard was a lifetime member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church and served as an elder, trustee and clerk of session. He was a life member of the Mercer County VFW Post 1571 and Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Mercer County Farm Bureau and the Senior Citizens Center and was a trustee for Millersburg Township. Maynard was widely known for his hobby of collecting license plates and was charter member No. 20 of the Auto License Plate Collector's Association, which he helped start in 1954. Maynard also enjoyed gardening and sports. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and cheerful disposition. Memorials may be made to College Avenue Presbyterian Church or American Cancer Society. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim, Moline; a daughter, Jan, Aspen, Colo.; granddaughters, Hollie and Teresa Marquis, Peoria; a sister, Pauline Klein, Santa Maria, Calif.; a brother, Donald, Orlando, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. Maynard was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother, James Willet, in infancy; and a sister, Carolyn Johnson.

Dorothy Ritchie
SAVANNA, Ill. -- Dorothy A. Ritchie, of 110 Diagonal St., died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Samaritan Health System, Clinton, Iowa. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Savanna Township Cemetery , Savanna. Dorothy Darr was born July 13, 1928, in Davis Junction. She married Robert Ritchie in 1947 in Savanna. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sharon Zink, Savanna; sons, Jay, Albany, and Thomas, Savanna; eight grandchildren; sisters, June Huffine, South Elgin, Delores Fox, Huntly, and Mary Darr, Cincinnati; and a brother, Jack Darr, Elgin.

Flavio Atilano
GRANDVIEW, Iowa -- Flavio "Flip" Atilano, of Grandview, formerly of West Liberty, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Muscatine General Hospital, after an extended illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Liberty. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , West Liberty. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, with a vigil at 8 p.m. Mr. Atilano worked for the railroad in West Liberty until retirement in 1986. He was born Dec. 22, 1926, in West Liberty. During the Korean War, he served in the Army. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Atilano, Grandview; daughters, Betty Fankhauser, Des Moines, Shirley Chavarria, Holland, Mich., Jan Jaynes and Tammy Ramirez, both of Muscatine, and Connie Garcia, Grandview; sons, Larry Sanders, Moline, Robert Sanders, Weston, W.Va., and Mark Jaynes, Des Moines; 29 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lupe Reyes, Floris, Crispina Rodriguez, West Liberty, Mercedes Rockwell, Nichols, and Connie Elkins, Hacienda Heights, Calif.

Ann Jacobs
NEPONSET, Ill. -- Services for Ann B. Jacobs, of Neponset, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery , Neponset. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Jacobs died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee. She was employed as a registered nurse at Community General, Sterling. In earlier years, she was a private duty child care provider. Ann Bennett was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Kewanee. She married Alfred Jacobs in 1968 in Neponset. Memorials may be made to ALS Association or Messiah Lutheran Church, Galva. Survivors include daughters, Karen Jacobs, Springfield, and Laura Anderson, Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandsons; and a sister, Sue Norton, and brothers, Bob, John and Lee Bennett, all of Neponset.

Donna Jarvis
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Donna D. Jarvis, of East Moline, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary where a prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Jarvis died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. She was employed as a registered nurse at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. She had also worked as a nurse at San Bernardino California Community Hospital before moving to this area in 1997. Donna Smith was born Aug. 27, 1936, in Janesville, Wis. She married James Jarvis in 1955 in Janesville. A memorial fund will be established. Survivors include sons, Timothy and Gilbert, both of Apple Valley, Calif., and Edward and Thomas, both of Ventura, Calif.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Sandra Margis, Silvis, Ill.; and a brother, Ronald Wright, Davenport.

James Martin
CLINTON, Iowa -- James I. Martin, of Clinton, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Samaritan Hospital North, Clinton. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. He was employed as a salesman for H.J. Heinz Co. and Rochester Midland Germicide, retiring in 1972. He was born Nov. 16, 1908 in Muscatine. He married Eunice Piersol in 1939 in Clinton. During World War II he served in the Army attached to the 505th AAF BU (ATCRC). Memorials may be made to The Alverno and the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas, Appleton, Wis.; and two grandchildren.

Irene Trede
MOLINE -- Services for Irene E. Trede, of New Windsor, Ill., will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island, with a 9-9:30 a.m. visitation at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, prior to services. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. She worked at Griffin's Confectionery, Rock Island. Then she worked at Northwestern Bell, Davenport, for eight years. She went on to own and manage Tots and Teens Resale Shop in her home, Rock Island, from 1954-1961. Irene VanHecke was born Dec. 17, 1911, in Moline. She married Edwin Trede in 1933 in Davenport. He preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island, the American Heart Association, or the Kidney Foundation. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Brown, New Windsor, Ill.; a sister, Charlotte Hanna, Moline, and Doris Mae Tritz, Remsen, Iowa; and a brother, Robert VanHecke, Davenport.

Loretta Alcorn
DAVENPORT -- Loretta C. Alcorn, of Davenport, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Services will be at a later date in Montana. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Alcorn had been employed for 21 years by Davenport Community Schools prior to her retirement. Loretta Walden was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Ada, Okla. She married Fred Alcorn in 1941 in Ely, Nev. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Alcorn, Blue Grass, Iowa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Marland Walden, Half Moon, Mont., Bradford Walden, Clifton, Ariz., and Ray Walden, Charleston, S.C.

Joyce Leone Oetzmann
DAVENPORT -- Joyce Leone Oetzmann, of rural Scott County, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at her home. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Joyce's life was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, Iowa, where she had taught Sunday school. She also enjoyed baking and cooking. Joyce Leone Benning, the daughter of Ernest and Doris (Foster) Benning, was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Calamus, Iowa. She married Alvin A. Oetzmann Aug. 28, 1940, in Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, or to Genesis Hospice Care. Surviving are her husband, Alvin; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Martin Ruwe, Walcott; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth L. and Sue Oetzmann, Davenport; grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Jodi Ruwe, Tracey and Jeff Ruge, Beth and Todd Graff, and Tim and Jennifer Oetzmann; five great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Lucille Steward.

Wayne Harmon
SABULA, Iowa -- Services for Wayne L. Harmon, of Sabula, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sabula United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery , Sabula. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Mr. Harmon died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport. He was a long time employee of Savanna Ordnance Depot, retiring in 1980. He was born March 7, 1919, in Mr. Carroll, Ill. He married Geraldine Miller in 1964. She died May 15, 1998. During World War II he served in the Army. Survivors include a son, Dan Miller, Sabula; five grandchildren; a sister, Idella Hall, Mount Carroll; and a brother, Clyde Harmon, Milledgeville, Ill.

Harold Cunningham
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Harold Cunningham, formerly of Clark House, Muscatine, died Sunday, April 18, 1999. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Visitation is noon until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Drury-Reynolds Cemetery . He was a musician and had his own band. He was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Muscatine. During World War II he served in the Army. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice. Survivors include his mother, Vina Thompson, Muscatine; sisters, Gloria Troute, of Tennessee, Juanita Smith, Muscatine, and Marian Millett, of Burlington, Iowa; and brothers, Raymond, Cairo, Iowa, Clarence, Muscatine, and James, Davenport.

Alice Allen
DAVENPORT -- Services for Alice S. Allen, of Davenport, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will be held at a later date. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Allen died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. She retired after several years as a teacher in Franklin and Linn counties, Iowa. She then worked for 20 years in the office at Younkers, Lindale Mall, Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Allen received her teachers certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College, Ames. She also attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and Coe College, Cedar Rapids. Alice Stockdale was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Franklin County to A.T. and Lida Irene (Stinson) Stockdale. She married Milo Rex Allen on June 10, 1935, in Franklin County. He died in 1970. She enjoyed reading and her family. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, or the charity of your choice. Survivors include daughters Eloise Kay (Loren) Kober, West Branch, Iowa, and Eileen (Dr. Anthony) Cacioppo, Davenport; a son Verle (Diane) Allen, Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Gelder, Boone, Iowa; a sister-in-law Loretta Allen, Marion, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Carl Schatz
DeWITT, Iowa -- Services for Carl I. Schatz, of DeWitt, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery , DeWitt. Mr. Schatz died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. He was born June 6, 1942, in Clinton. He married Janet Connor in 1966 in Davenport. He married Kathleen Meyer in 1981 in Grand Mound. He was a self-employed mason contractor in the DeWitt area for 29 years. Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses of Clinton County or the American Red Cross Fund for Kosovo. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Ann Schatz, Charlotte, N.C., Kerry Good, Chincoteague, Va., and Laura Schatz, at home; one grandson; his parents, Irvin and Frieda Schatz, DeWitt; sisters, Wilma Owen, Dewitt, and Clara Lowery, Delmar; and a brother, Fred Behr, DeWitt.
