CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Carol Bruggenwirth, of 2723 Cleveland St., Clinton, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Open Door, Clinton. There will be a reception after the services. The body will be cremated. Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bruggenwirth died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Samaritan Hospital South, Clinton. Carol Johansen was born June 12, 1935, in Clinton. She married Ben (Buck) Bruggenwirth, Jr. He preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Audrey Lou, Cindy Huffman, Tammy Burmeister and Kimmy Bruggenwirth; sons, Gary Johansen, Donald Shipley, Danny Bruggenwirth, John Bruggenwirth and Ricky Bruggenwirth; stepsons, Larry Bruggenwirth, Terry Bruggenwirth, Steve Bruggenwirth and Mark Bruggenwirth; 28 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Donna Fugate and Susan Schocker.

Claus Bielema
FULTON, Ill. -- Services for Claus Bielema, of 18990 13th St., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Fulton Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery . Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Bielema died Wednesday at his home. He was employed for 31 years by International Harvester, East Moline. He and his wife constructed, owned and operated the Pine Motel, Fulton. He also built many homes in the Albany and Fulton areas. He was born Feb. 14, 1912, in Ustick Township, Ill. He married Florence Green in 1936 in Fulton. Memorials may be made to First Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, or Samaritan Hospice and Home Care. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Patricia Bronkema, Forreston, Ill.; sons, Harold, Albany, Ill., and Gordon, Fulton; 11 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-brother, Henry Rose, Fulton.

Dorothy Almquist
MOLINE -- Services for Dorothy J. Almquist, of Moline, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery , Moline. Visitation is 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Mrs. Almquist died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill. She was employed as a nurse by Dr. Samuel Brown. Dorothy Hensley was born Feb. 12, 1913, in Rock Island. She married Paul Almquist in 1940 in Moline. Memorials may be made to the church or Bethany For Children and Families. Survivors include her husband, Paul; a daughter, Linda Crabtree, Ypsilanti, Mich.; two grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Helen Hensley, Rock Island; and a nephew, Dennis Hensley, Rockford, Ill. She was preceded in death by a brother, James.

ALEDO, Ill. -- Services for James C. Hay, of Aledo, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. The Reverend Bea Mulvany of Viola United Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in New Windsor Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Hay died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. He was employed as a salesman for Lance Inc. Formerly he was employed as a salesman for Moormans Manufacturing, Alpha, and Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Davenport. He was born July 27, 1943, in Macomb, to Clifford and Ferne (McNeal) Hay. He graduated in 1961 from Winola High School, Viola. He married Sandra Allen on May 22, 1965, in New Windsor. He was a member of the Viola United Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Jaycees. He enjoyed gardening, farming and time with his family. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law Melissa and John Bruning, Aledo; sons, Jeffrey and Justin, both of Aledo; grandchildren, Fawn, Will and Jacqueline Bruning, all of Aledo; his mother, Ferne Hay, Aledo; a sister, Nancy Prokaka, Elizabeth, Colo.; and a brother, Marion Hay, Aledo. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Richard Allen.

Jerry Rogers
BETTENDORF -- Services for Jerry T. Rogers, of Rolling Meadows, Ill., formerly of Bettendorf, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Rogers died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, after an extended illness. Memorials may be made to the family or American Diabetes Association. He was employed by the public school system in Kildeer, Ill. He was born Dec. 22, 1941, in Davenport. Survivors include a daughter, Teresa McArthur, Rolling Meadows; two grandsons; and a sister, Sherry Ehm, Ankeny, Iowa.

Joseph Alcala
DAVENPORT -- Services for Joseph D. Alcala Jr., of Davenport, will be noon Saturday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Private burial will be Monday at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery with military rites conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Alcala died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. He was employed for 23 years at Alcoa in the ingot division. He was born March 11, 1952, in Davenport. He married Sharon Simon in 1973 in Davenport. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Survivors include sons, Derek and Russell, both of Davenport; a granddaughter; his mother, Marilyn Alcala, Davenport; sisters, Linda Phelps and Selene Aguirre, both of Davenport, Judy Hendrickson, Harold, Calif., Bonnie Menes and Connie Ewers, both of Bettendorf; and brothers, Louis, Mark and Thomas Alcala, all of Davenport.

Linda Mirabelli
HILLSIDE, Ill. -- Services for Linda Mirabelli, of Hillside, Ill., will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Domitilla Church, Hillside. Mrs. Mirabelli died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Sunday at Salerno Galewood Chapel, Chicago. Linda Mitchelle was born in Italy in 1911. She married John Mirabelli in 1927. He died in 1979. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School, Rock Island. Survivors include a son, Rev. Daniel Mirabelli, CSV, Rock Island; a daughter, Marianna Dituro, Downers Grove, Ill.; a granddaughter; and brothers, Joseph Mitchelle and Armaday Mitchelle.

Lorraine Strnad
DAVENPORT -- Funeral services for Lorraine A. Strnad, of Davenport, will be noon Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation is 10-11:30 a.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Lorraine died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Donnellson (Iowa) Health Center. She was born March 23, 1921, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., the daughter of Leonard and Violet (Rau) Sebastian. She married John M. Strnad on May 15, 1940, in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1986. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society of the church, Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, Nauvoo, Ill.; and two bridge clubs. Lorraine enjoyed playing bridge, singing, crocheting, knitting, bowling and her family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Alzheimer's Association. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Robert Rinehart, Davenport, and Jane and Ronald Nelson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Lynn Strnad, Nauvoo; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers and sister-in-law, Robert and Pat Sebastian, Cedar Rapids, and Francis Sebastian, Waukon, Iowa.

Timothy Dolieslager
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Timothy "Tim" Dolieslager, of Kewanee, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Schueneman Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Dolieslager died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Kewanee Hospital. He worked as a patrolman from 1975-80 for the Kewanee Police Department. He also had been a police officer for Galva and Annawan. He had been chief of police for the Kewanee Park Board. He had owned and operated the "Diner," Kewanee. He was most recently working for AutoZone, Kewanee. He was born June 30, 1948, in Kewanee. Memorials may be made to his daughter, Nicole Dolieslager's, education fund at Union Federal Savings & Loan, Kewanee. Survivors include daughters, Nicole Dolieslager and Jamie Swearingen, both of Kewanee; sons, Peter, East Dubuque, Ill., and Jody Burwell, Joliet, Ill.; five grandchildren; and a brother, David, Kewanee. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy Allen Dolieslager.
Walter Cole
DAVENPORT -- Walter R. Cole, of Davenport, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 5:30-8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Mr. Cole was born Nov. 21, 1909, in Lehigh, Iowa. He married Gloria Kolbig in 1952 in Rock Island. He served in the U.S. Cavalry from 1926-30 and in the Army during World War II. He was employed for many years as a truck driver and recently had worked in security for the Davenport Public Works Department, retiring in 1987. Survivors include his wife; a daughter Marcia Pennington, Idyllwild, Calif.; a son, Michael Cole, Minneapolis; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Davis, Waterloo, Iowa; and a brother, Arnold Cole, Lomita, Calif.

Dorothy Meier
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Dorothy C. Meier, of Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Mrs. Meier died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. She retired in 1969 as a telephone operator after 45 years at Illinois Bell , Rock Island. Dorothy Schroeder was born July 13, 1907, in Rock Island. She married Paul "Junior" Meier on Nov. 18, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa. They owned and operated Meiersville Resort, Prairie Du Chien, Wis. He died in 1991. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County "No Kill" Humane Society. Survivors include stepdaughters, Paula Luckenbihl, Moline, and Karen Williams, Ravenna, Mich.; and a brother, Kenneth "Whitey" Schroeder, Rock Island.

Ralph VanDeVelde
GALVA, Ill. -- Services for Ralph J. VanDeVelde, of rural Galva, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church, Galva. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery , Sheffield, with military services conducted. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Rux Funeral Home, Galva, with a rosary at 6 p.m. Mr. VanDeVelde died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. He had been a farmer. He retired in 1992. He was born July 14, 1921, in Sheffield. He married Darlene VanDeKeere in 1944 in Sheffield. She died in 1981. He married Olga Vavra in 1985 in Galva. During World War II, he served in the Coast Guard. He was stationed in Alaska and the Philippines. Memorials may be made to the church or St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Schairer, Burlington, Ill.; stepdaughters, Jane Cavender, Travis City, Mich., and Judy Maupin, Milwaukee; sons, Steve, Independence, Mo., Paul, Kewanee, and David, Atkinson; stepsons, Greg Maupin, Sacramento, Calif., Gerald Maupin, Big Sur, Calif., and John Maupin, Zapp, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Wheeler, Sheffield; and brothers, Roy, Galva, and Marvin, Kewanee.

Steven Tomasson
MOSCOW, Iowa -- Steven W. Tomasson, of Moscow, died over the weekend at his home near Moscow. Memorial services will be at later date. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park. Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Tomasson was a self-employed carpenter. He was born April 3, 1957, in Muscatine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Steven Tomasson Memorial Fund. Paul Brill
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Paul W. Brill, of 2808 Garfield St., will be 11 am. Friday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Mr. Brill died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. He was a self-employed painter for more than 40 years in the Clinton area. He was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Tama. He married Laura Haswell in 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; stepdaughters, Alberta Sutter, Cussetta, Ga., and Eleanor Little, Fairfield; a stepson, Edward Dwire, Clinton; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carl, Clinton.

He owned and operated Sorensen Construction, Durant, from 1964 until retirement in 1999. He also owned, operated and developed the South Towne Mobile Home Park in Wilton until 1998. He was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Durant. He married Marilyn Telsrow in 1953 in Davenport. Memorials may go to the church. She retired in 1998 as a dietitian after 22 years at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Nancy Remy was born March 19, 1940 in Bagley, Wis. She married Charles Cozadd in 1958 in Moline. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Tami Parker and Cindi Daligee, both of Moline; a son, Richard, Rock Island; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; her mother, Cora Remy; a sister, Donna Anderson, Moline; and brothers, James Remy, Milan, Ill., and Ronald Remy, Springfield, Ohio.

MOLINE -- Nancy J. Nelson, of Moline, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park, Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Nelson was employed five years as a server at Bishop's Cafeteria in Moline. She last worked in August 1998. Earlier she had worked at Fresh Pak, Moline. Nancy Anderson was born Dec. 29, 1951, in Moline. She married James Nelson in 1984 in Moline. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Kari Hofmann Rock Island; a granddaughter; and sisters, Carol Christensen, East Moline, and Shirley Oakleaf, Moline.
