Hazel Marie Allen
July 7, 1934 - February 14, 2006

The Pastor Sam Fratt will officiate.

-Interment: Aspen Grove Cemetery , Burlington, Iowa

Hazel Marie Allen, 71, of Burlington, formerly Gulfport, Illinois, died Tuesday, February 14th, 2006 at her home.

Born July 7, 1934 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Earl and Edith Bobbitt Myers. She married Albert A. Smith; he preceded her in death on July 26, 1980. On July 23, 1985 she married Floyd Allen in Burlington. He died May 6, 1988.

Mrs. Allen was a home health aide and a door greeter at Wal-Mart for many years. She was a member of Four Square Gospel Church. Mrs. Allen enjoyed gardening, watching the leaves change, looking at Christmas lights and watching soap operas and cooking shows.

Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Denning of West Burlington and Dora (Dean) Maxwell of Burlington; two sons, Anthony Myers and Troy Smith both of Burlington; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Lafferty of Burlington and Patricia Miller of Stockton, Missouri.

Her two husbands, parents, five sisters and one brother preceded her in death

The funeral service for Mrs. Allen will be Saturday, February 18th at 10:00 AM at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Sam Fratt will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Visitation will be Friday, February 17th, from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM.

A memorial has been established in Hazel’s memory and for the American Cancer Society.

Robert "Bob" Angelo
March 25, 1951 - November 18, 2005

-Services: Monday, November 21, 2005 2:00 PM in Parkside First Baptist Church

Robert “Bob” Dean Angelo, 54, of Burlington died Friday, November 18, 2005 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Born March 25, 1951 in Jacksonville, Illinois he was the son of Charles and Leona Hoots Angelo. On December 17, 1984 he married Judith M. Campbell at First United Methodist Church in Burlington.

Mr. Angelo worked at Admiral in Galesburg and the Burlington Medical Center. He was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and repairing things.

Survivors include his wife, Judith M. Angelo of Burlington; two sons, Robert Dean Angelo II of Galesburg and Christopher Angelo of Florida; two grandchildren; his mother, Leona Angelo of Monmouth; three brothers, Bill Angelo of Moore, Oklahoma, Dallas Angelo of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jack Angelo of Abingdon, Illinois; and two sisters, Sue Hammer and Teresa Brinton both of Monmouth.

His father; one brother, Chuck; and one sister, Barb preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established.

Carla LaVerne Applegarth
January 9, 1950 - December 7, 2005

-Cemetery: Jaggar Cemetery , Rural Danville, Iowa

Carla LaVerne Applegarth, 55, of Wever, formerly of Burlington, died at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at Great River Medical Center at West Burlington.

Carla was born January 9th, 1950, the daughter of Fern and LaVerne “Tommy” Thornburg. She was raised in Danville and graduated from Danville High School in 1968.

After a former marriage, Carla married her husband, James Applegarth on October 3rd, 1986 in West Burlington.

During her 30 years of employment her most memorable jobs were with the Trane Co., as a Dispatcher for the Burlington Police Dept., Home Caring Services and The Battered Womens Shelter and Sexual Assault Center. Her last three years before retiring she operated her own shop on Main St. in Burlington called The Gift Makers. Carla designed and sold personalized gift baskets which she had received national recognition by the Gift Basket Industry.

Carla is of the Baptist faith. She cherishes her family and friends. She has many hobbies and special interests and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and caring for Ashton.

Carla is survived by her husband, Jim of Wever; her daughter, Nicole Yocom and granddaughter, Kelsi Yocom of Burlington; her mother and step father, Fern and Dean Stecker of Mt. Pleasant; her sister, Rosanna Grinstead of Minster, Ohio; her step daughter, Kelly Applegarth of Savage, Minnesota; two step sons, Bruce Applegarth of Belle Plaine, Minnesota and Brian Whipps of Burlington; five step grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Margaret Applegarth of Burlington; brothers-in-law; aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; father-in-law, Blaine Applegarth; and nephew, Tony Grinstead.

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. John Fetterhoff officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery , rural Danville.

Memorials have been established for the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault and the Arthritis Foundation for research in the area of Fibromyalgia.

Kenneth A. Archibald
July 6, 1916 - April 8, 2007

Our Dad, Kenneth A. “Kenny or Archie” Archibald, 90, of Wapello and Burlington, Iowa and formerly of California, Camdenton, Missouri and Green Valley, Arizona went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, at 8:01 a.m. at Burlington Care Center.

Born July 6, 1916 in Wapello, Iowa, he was the son of Millard “Flip” Fillmore and Bessie Pritchard Archibald. On July 25, 1937, he married Mildred “Mickie” Williams in Muscatine, Iowa. She died September 18, 1963. On May 15, 1964 he married Alyce Timmerman in Burlington. She died January 20, 2003.

Mr. Archibald was a graduate of Wapello High School. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

He worked as a painter for Hollywood studios and retired as a carpenter from I.A.A.P.

Mr. Archibald was a member of First Christian Church – Disciples of Christ, American Legion Post 52, and Moose Lodge No. 579. He enjoyed sports, especially the Phoenix Suns, and liked to play golf, pool, bowl, fish and hunt. He loved to dance.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty (Ken) Salzwedel of Burlington, Jean (Paul) Eash of Massillon, Ohio and Deb (Dennis) McCarty of Green Valley, Arizona; three sons, John (Sandy) Archibald of Weatherford, Texas, Carl (Jackie) Archibald of Arlington, Washington, and Danny Archibald of Phoenix, Arizona; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Besides his wives, his parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

Vera Emily Austin
June 5, 1931 - April 4, 2007

Vera Emily Austin, 75, of rural Danville, Iowa died at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Great River Medical Center.

Born June 5, 1931, in Denmark, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred and Bessie Stratton Osborne.

On December 27, 1953 she married John L. “Jack” Austin in Burlington.

Mrs. Austin was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Jack Austin of rural Danville; two sons, Kevin Lee Austin of West Burlington and Kyle Michael Austin of rural Danville; and one sister, Hilda Brent.

Her parents and two sisters, Margaret and Martha preceded her in death.

Robert Eugene Babb
March 2, 1921 - January 1, 2006

Robert Eugene Babb, 84, of Burlington, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2006, in Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born March 2, 1921 in Burlington, he was the son of Oliver E. and Florence J. Clampitt Babb.

Mr. Babb was a 1939 graduate of Burlington High School and received his bachelor’s of science degree in electronic engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology. He was a World War II Army veteran, and retired in 1978 as a Merchant Marine radio officer.

Survivors include two brothers, Donald Babb of Burlington and Richard A. Babb of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Betty Babb of Burlington, Bonnie Wollam of Cantril, and Norma Dannenbring of Republic, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
