MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Esther B. Honts, of Muscatine, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Muscatine Care Center. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery , Muscatine. She had worked at Bowman Shoe Store. Esther Tobias was born July 30, 1910, in Muscatine. She married Bill Burke in 1929 in Muscatine. He died in 1952. She married Kenneth Honts in 1954 in Muscatine. They owned and operated Ken's Brown Built Shoe Store for 20 years. He died in 1975. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Shaffer, Clovis, Calif.; a son, Bill Burke, Harlingen, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Florence Clymer
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Florence M. Clymer, of Rock Island, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Clymer died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Florence Raymond was born in 1929 in Rock Island. She married Ray Clymer in 1949 in Rock Island. He died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Clymer, Taylor Ridge, Ill.; a son, Sam R., Moline; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mary Williams
CAMANCHE, Iowa -- Services for Mary L. Williams, of 1512 6th Ave., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Camanche Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Camanche. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Williams died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. She worked many years at Grants, McLanes and Mercy Hospital. Mary Hugunin was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Clinton. She married Elzie Williams in 1946 in Clinton. He died in 1997. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Williams, Ridgefield, N.J.; sons, Glenn A., Camanche, and Paul J., Blythe, Calif.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, JoAnn Wagner, Camanche.

Viola Walter
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Viola E. Walter, of 2421 Lutheran Drive, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at her home. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park. Mrs. Walter was a homemaker. Viola Baker was born Sept. 19, 1904, in Bettendorf. She married Harold Knoles in 1922. She later married Herbert Walter. He died in 1965. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church and Lutheran Homes. Survivors include several stepchildren; three grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Baker, Rock Island.

Mildred Westerdale
WOODHULL, Ill. -- Mildred J. Westerdale, of Woodhull, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Woodhull. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery . Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Woodhull, is in charge of arrangements. Mildred Odean was born March 28, 1914, in Clover Township, rural Woodhull. She married Sidney Westerdale in 1937 in Rock Island. He died in 1979. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or Tri-County Ambulance Service. Survivors include cousins.

Helen Johnson
GALESBURG, Ill. -- Helen M. Johnson, of 65 N. Ivan St., died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. today at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The body will be cremated. No services are planned. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker. Helen Lane was born Sept. 26, 1903, in Kamrar, Iowa. She married Eschel Johnson in 1923 in Nevada, Iowa. He died in 1974. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Galesburg. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Johnson, Galesburg; a son, Earl L., Bettendorf; a grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Betty Kirkpatrick
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Betty M. Kirkpatrick, of Muscatine, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Scott Township Cemetery , Winfield. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Kirkpatrick died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Community Health Resources, Muscatine. She was employed as an accountant at National Farm Loan and Lawrence Tax Service, Muscatine. Betty Winders was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Buckingham. She married Beryl "Kirk" Kirkpatrick in 1949 in Muscatine. He preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to the Intensive Care Unit at Community Health Resources. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Arthur Olson
ALEDO, Ill. -- Services for Arthur A. Olson, of Aledo, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Aledo. The Rev. David W. Schweppe will officiate. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery . Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Mr. Olson died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. He was born Aug. 26, 1905, in Suez Township, Mercer County, to John and Selma (Larson) Olson. He received his education from Aledo schools. He married Yvonne Berglund on May 11, 1947, in Aledo. She died Feb. 21, 1984. He farmed north of Aledo all of his life. Mr. Olson was a member of, former Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years and very active at Messiah Lutheran Church, Aledo. He was a member, past president and board member of Mercer County Chapter of American Red Cross, and a member of Mercer County Historical Society, Mercer County Senior Citizens Center and American Association of Retired Persons. Memorials may be made to the church or American Red Cross. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Margaret Olson, Aledo, and Drs. William B. and Karen Olson, Corpus Christie, Texas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harry.

Edna Obermiller
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Edna A. Obermiller, of 1245 8th Ave. North, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Mrs. Obermiller died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at the Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton. She retired in 1983 after 10 years at the Department of Social Services, Clinton. Edna Kjergaard was born June 18, 1917, in Low Moor. She married Wilbur Obermiller in 1944 in Clinton. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or the church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Diane Pfaffly, White Bear Lake, Minn.; a son, Jeff, East Moline; three grandchildren; a sister, Anna Archibald, Marion; and a brother, Jurgen Kjergaard, Clinton.

Charlene Vance
FRUITLAND, Iowa -- Charlene L. James Vance, of Rocky Mount, Mo., died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Lake Ozark General Hospital. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Mossman & Hess Funeral Home, Eldon, Mo. Burial will be in Fruitland Cemetery . Mrs. Vance retired as a medical aide at Muscatine County Residential Home. Charlene Carlson was born May 14, 1938, in Rock Island. She married Russell Vance in 1994 in Aledo, Ill. Survivors include her husband; a son, David James; stepsons, Russell Vance Jr., Muscatine, and Robert Vance, Mediapolis; stepdaughters, Veda Vance, Eva Stephens, Judy Sehley and Lisa Vance, all of Muscatine; five step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Leola Kandybowicz
CAMANCHE, Iowa -- Services for Leola A. Kandybowicz, of Cedar Heights Court, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Community Congregational Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Camanche. Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Mrs. Kandybowicz died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Samaritan Hospital South, Clinton. She was a homemaker. Leola Pelham was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Malone. She married Joseph Owens in 1941 in Clinton. She married Julius Kandybowicz in 1973 in Illinois. He died in 1990. Survivors include daughters, Doris Lyon, Burlington, and Rosemary Rohr, Monticello; a son, Thomas Owens, Clinton; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Violet Rhoades, and brothers, Clarence and Lyle Pelham, all of Clinton.

Shirley Weis
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Shirley A. Weis, of Oceanside, Calif., will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Mrs. Weis died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Tri-City Memorial Hospital, Oceanside. She was a homemaker. Shirley Schaffer was born July 4, 1935, in Des Moines. She married LaVerne Weis in 1967 at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Lisa Smith, Burke, Va.; a son, Timothy Frederick, Tampa, Fla.; a grandson; a sister, Mary Pell, Clinton; and brothers, Edward Wilkins, Clinton, and Ernest Schaffer, Hawthorne, Fla.

Rev. Harvey Ross
LeCLAIRE, Iowa -- Services for the Rev. Harvey A. Ross, of Des Moines, will be 1 p.m. today at Evangel Chapel Foursquare Church, Des Moines. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glendale Cemetery , LeClaire. Rev. Ross died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines, after an extended illness. Hamilton Funeral Home, Des Moines, is in charge of arrangements. He was a minister at Evangel Chapel Foursquare Church, Des Moines; superintendent of Iowa Foursquare Churches; and a director at Foursquare Children's Camp. He was born in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Camp Hickory. Survivors include his wife, Wanda; a daughter, Shelley Herrin, Altoona; sons, Randy, Des Moines, and the Rev. Perry, Dover, Ohio; four granddaughters; his mother, Ella Ross, Des Moines; and a brother, the Rev. David, Peru, Ind.

Marie Bookman
MOLINE -- Services for Marie C. Bookman, of 1719 12th St., will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, where she was a member. Entombment is in St. Mary's Cemetery mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bookman died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Marie Lievens was born May 14, 1909, in Moline, to Rene and Zulma (DeWitte) Lievens. She married Kenneth E. Bookman on Sept. 7, 1931, in Moline. He died March 5, 1991. She enjoyed traveling. Memorials may be made to Seton Junior High School Building Fund or Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Florence "Sis" and Richard Nichols, Moline; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Connie Bookman, Moline, Jim and Kathy Bookman, Springfield, Ohio, and George Bookman and friend Diane Ewoldt, Blue Grass, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Josephine Rettig, Moline, and Alice Layer, Milan, Ill.

Leona Johnson
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Leona H. Johnson, of Highland Transitional Care, Madison, Wis., will be noon Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clinton. Visitation is 11 a.m. to noon Thursday. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Mrs. Johnson died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the care center. She was employed many years as a teacher at Clinton schools. Leona Henningsen was born June 3, 1904, in Clinton. She married Robert Johnson in 1940 in Clinton. He died in 1987. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include a nephew, Richard White, Athens, Texas, whom she raised.

Ross Steuart
DAVENPORT -- Services for Ross A. Steuart, of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Steuart died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. He retired in 1982 as a postal clerk after 28 years at the Davenport Post Office. He was born June 2, 1924, in Pisgah, Iowa. He married Jean Orr in 1947 in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Center for Aging Services Inc. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara Coughlin, Bettendorf; a son, Ronald, Wixom, Mich.; two grandchildren; a sister, LaVica Leonard; and a brother, Curtis.

EAST MOLINE -- Services for Mary Ellen Corlett Hancq, formerly of Davenport and Moline, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Hancq died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Parkview Health Care Center, East Moline. Mary was employed many years as a sales clerk at the Syndicate Hub, Simon & Landauer and Scharfs Ready-to-Wear. She retired in 1975. Mary Ellen was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Des Moines County, Iowa, to Stephan and Paulina (Paskavan) Lipovac. She was adopted by Frank and Agness McShane. She married James E. Corlett in 1940. She later married Albert B. Hancq in 1975. He died in March 1990. She was a former member of Davenport Moose Lodge, Friends Circle Club and East End Club. She was fun-loving and enjoyed dancing. Survivors include sons and daughter in-law, James Corlett, Walkertown, N.C., and Robert and Mary Corlett, Colona, Ill.; grandchildren and their spouses, Harold and Gayle Corlett, Norman, Okla., Brenda and Mark Chaney, Virginia Beach, Va., and Wayne and Becky Corlett, Viola, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Lipovac, Redwood City, Calif.; two nieces; and a special care giver, Brandi Osborne. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands.

ROCK ISLAND -- Services for June A. Anderson, of Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Anderson died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She had assisted in the planning and development of the Quad-City Botanical Center. June Lipking was born May 2, 1921, in Evansville, Ind. She married George Anderson Jr. in 1941 in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Quad-City Botanical Center. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, April Kerofsky, Tempe, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and sisters, Norma Smith, Rock Island, and Lois Oliver, Baghdad, Fla.
