SAVANNA, Ill.-- Services for Cindy L. Herrington, of Savanna, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery , Monticello, Iowa. Mrs. Herrington died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Strathmoor Park Nursing Home, Rockford. She was employed as a nurse assistant in nursing homes. Cindy Bowman was born Dec. 22, 1956, in Waverly, Iowa. She married Burton Herrington in 1973 in rural Mount Carroll. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Dawn Herrington, and a son, Kenneth Herrington, both of Savanna; and two grandchildren.

Allison Taplin
SABULA, Iowa -- Services for Allison J. "Junior" Taplin, of Clinton, formerly of Sabula, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery , Sabula. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Taplin died Monday, April 5, 1999 at his home. He was employed 28 years as a materials classifier at Special Weapons Section, Savanna Army Depot. He served as a Sabula City Council member for 10 years and was mayor pro tem. He was born June 19, 1922, in Bryant. He married Rose Haiar in 1945 in Sabula. During World War II, he served in the Army. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Delores Pickett, Bemidji, Minn., Sue Schwartz, Maquoketa, and Candace Buikema, Morrison, Ill.; sons, Joseph, Great Falls, Va., William, Clinton, and John, Pearland, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Collins, Stockton, Calif.

Betty Pfortmiller
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Betty Pfortmiller, of East Moline, will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Family Funeral Services, Aledo, Ill. Visitation is 2-3 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mannon Cemetery , New Boston Township. Mrs. Pfortmiller died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. She retired in 1980 after 10 years at Admiral Corp., Galesburg, Ill. Betty Diehl was born June 14, 1924, in Mercer County, Ill. She married Howard Pfortmiller in 1953 in Berkley, Calif. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association. Survivors include a son, Ron Brown, Milan, Ill.; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verna Anderson, Keithsburg, Ill.

Doris Titus
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Doris E. Titus, of Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. Mrs. Titus died Easter Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Hospice House, Bradenton, Fla. Doris Elaine Battin was born July 4, 1921, in Princeton, Ill., to Edward and Ellen (Munson) Battin. She graduated from high school in Princeton and then attended the former Illinois Teachers College, Macomb. Mrs. Titus moved from Princeton to the Quad-Cities, working at International Harvester, East Moline. While working at I.H., Doris met and married Daniel E. Morck. Dan and Doris moved to Rock Island, raising a family and cultivating lifelong friendships. Mr. Morck died in 1976. Mrs. Titus was active in a wide range of community activities. She served in leadership positions in the Sacred Heart Parent Teacher Association. Doris was active in local politics, serving as a Precinct Committeeman and Rock Island Township Supervisor. Mrs. Titus' professional career continued after I.H. at the former St. Anthony's and Franciscan hospitals until her retirement. A passion for friends, bridge and golf brought Walter Titus into her life, as a loving husband on Oct. 2, 1981. Walt and Doris traveled extensively, making friends everywhere. Walt died Dec. 3, 1993. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Andrews, Bradenton; a son, Daniel Morck, Rock Island; grandchildren, Kelly, Jennifer and Benjamin Morck and Kelly Andrews; nieces, Colleen Schutz, Chicago, Carol Ferino, Peoria, Ill., Suzanne Bogard, Peoria, Karen Rourke, Yakima, Wash., and a nephew, Randall Schutz, Chicago. Her extended family includes grandnieces and grandnephews, David Ferino, Alex and Allison Schutz, Kimberly Bogard and Bradley, Brent and Sherri Rourke. Mrs. Titus was preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Dorotha Schutz; and her eldest sister, Myrna Eckdahl. Mrs. Titus' greatest passion was her family and friends. She participated in many bridge clubs, keeping friends close. Family gatherings concentrated on food and fun. Doris' quick wit and smile will be remembered.

Daniel Reardon
DAVENPORT -- Services for Daniel Patrick Reardon, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Dan died Tuesday April 6, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, after a brief illness. Daniel Patrick Reardon was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Blue Island, Ill., to Thomas and Mary Eileen (Pickley) Reardon. He married Barbara Grell on Sept. 15, 1973, in Davenport. He graduated from St. Ignatius Catholic High School, Chicago. He attended St. Ambrose College and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in history. He received his master's degree in criminal justice from the University of Illinois. Dan began his career in law enforcement with the city of Davenport in August 1972. He most recently was commander of the day shift. Lt. Reardon's career spanned 27 years during which time he was very instrumental in organizing and implementing collective bargaining. He was known throughout the department and in the Iowa State Police Association as an innovator. He had many helpful ideas which were implemented during his tenure. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Iowa State Police Association. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was a true Notre Dame fan. He was co-founder of the Quad-City St. Patrick's Society and was its first president. Memorials can be made to the Handicapped Development Center or Davenport Police Department Death Benefit Fund. Survivors include a son, Daniel Reardon, stationed with the U.S Air Force in South Korea; a daughter, Kathleen Reardon, Davenport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Monica Reardon and Kevin and Claudia Reardon, all of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. May they rest in peace.

Harold Fuller
DAVENPORT -- Services for Harold "Bud" Fuller, of Davenport, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Mr. Fuller died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Davenport Medical Center. He was employed more than 36 years as a crane operator at Rock Island Arsenal. He retired in July 1975. He was employed earlier as a locomotive engineer at Central and Northwestern Railroad and part-time as a butcher at Slagle's Market and Eagle Food Stores. He also was self-employed for more than 20 years as a private investigator. Harold Francis Fuller was born May 24, 1914, in Blue Grass, Iowa, to Frank and Mary (Mockmore) Fuller. He married Wilma Schiesser on June 2, 1956 in Rock Island. Mr. Fuller was past president and life member of Davenport Eagles Aire 235. He also was a member of Davenport Moose Lodge and International Association of Machinists and Aero Space Workers. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Phyllis Wellmeier, Davenport; a granddaughter, Diane Grant, Fort Worth, Texas; grandsons, Dan Wellmeier, Davenport, and Phil Wellmeier, Davenport; and five great- grandchildren.

Glennys Glass
DAVENPORT -- Services for Glennys Ann Glass, of Davenport will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Glennys died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. She fought a long, hard battle with cancer. She was a 1939 graduate from Kewanee (Ill.) High School. She was a past member of the Women's Relief Corp. in Kewanee. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog, Gina. Her interests included reading, solving crossword puzzles and flower gardening. She was an avid sports fan. She loved watching the Hawkeyes play football and the Cubs play baseball. Glennys A. Baughman was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Osceola, Iowa, to Glenn and Netta (Talbot) Baughman. She married Howard W. Glass on Nov. 2, 1940, in Muscatine, Iowa. He died Nov. 27, 1976. Memorials may be made to Genesis Visiting Nurses or American Cancer Association. Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Bishop, and her husband, John, Bettendorf; a daughter, Sandra Swearinger, Davenport; a daughter, Debra Howell, and her husband, Tim, Davenport; a son, Bill Glass, and his wife Janet, Blue Grass, Iowa; grandchildren, Michael and Jeffrey Latham, Kristi Swanson, Jon Bishop, Lane and Scott Swearinger, Jason and Courtney Howell and Austin and Ashlyn Glass; and 20 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Glass also was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Clarence Freund
DAVENPORT -- Clarence Eugene Freund, of Davenport, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Manor Care Health Service, Davenport. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mr. Freund was employed in the Transportation Department at Deere & Co. for 25 years. Before that, he worked at Dohrn Transfer. He was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Paul and Caroline (Freyermuth) Freund. He married Margaret Poenitz on Sept. 19, 1936 ,in Davenport. She died July 2, 1997. He was an avid golfer and during his lifetime, he obtained a legitimate hole-in-one. He and two other men organized "The Duck Creek Golf Retirees League" that met on Tuesday morning. He was the starter at the Duck Creek Golf Course. He and his wife traveled extensively during their early years. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Survivors include a cousin, Allan McKeever, Davenport; and nieces and nephews. Mr. Freund also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon, in June 1968; and two brothers and a sister.

Byron Nelson
DAVENPORT -- Services for C. Byron Nelson, of Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Visitation is noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mr. Nelson died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. He founded Byron Nelson Realty Co. in the late 40s and operated the firm until his death. He was one of the early members of the Davenport Board of Realtors. He was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Emil S. and Claire (Anderson) Nelson. He married Betty Page in 1945 in Davenport. She died in 1995. Memorials may be made to Genesis Visiting Nurses. Survivors include sons, Jack Nelson, Davenport, and Tom Nelson, Bettendorf: grandchildren, Jennifer DeWitte, and Jeff, Jason, Gina and Janie Nelson; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Rebecca and Mitchell; and brothers, Vernon, San Diego, and Harlan, Galesburg, Ill.

Paul Swanson
MOLINE -- Paul F. Swanson, of Moline, widely known Moline firefighter, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at his home. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal, with military services by Moline American Legion Post 246. Mr. Swanson was a firefighter for the city of Moline from Aug. 16, 1939, until his retirement as assistant fire chief on Aug. 16, 1975. He was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Moline. He had served in the Army Cavalry, 1937-1939, and in the Marine Corps, 1943-1945. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, or Moline Viking Lodge Scholarship Fund. Survivors include his longtime companion and mate, Helen Gunnerson; sons, John L., Mechanicsburg, Pa., Chris, Red Oak, Iowa, and Kent, Lincoln, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five stepchildren, Brenda Lykam and Teresa Inskeep, both of Sarasota, Fla., and Connie Smith and John and Stan Gunnerson, all of Moline; five step-grandchildren; and brothers, Alfred, Phoenix, and Ralph, San Diego.

Catherine Kelemen
MORRISON, Ill. -- Private services for Catherine J. Kelemen, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, will be 2 p.m. today at Grove Hill Cemetery , Morrison. There is no visitation. Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Kelemen died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Samaritan Hospital North, Clinton, Iowa. She retired in 1984 from General Electric Co., Morrison. Catherine Burleigh was born June 12, 1919, in Los Angeles. She first married Weldon Daubard, then Jack Kelemen. Both preceded her in death. She was an art therapist for wounded servicemen during World War II. Memorials may be made to the Odell Public Library, Morrison. Survivors include daughters, Susan Burbano, Evanston, Fredi Sage, San Diego, and Catherine Daubard, Lake Forest, Ill.; a son, James Daubard, Morrison; a stepson, Steve Kelemen, Sterling, Ill.; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Floyd Wyldes
MILAN, Ill. -- Floyd L. Wyldes, of Milan, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. The body will be cremated. No services will be held. Mr. Wyldes drove a cab for Lucky Cab Co., Rock Island, for many years. He was born March 3, 1939, in Centerville, Iowa. He married Shirley Ruby in 1957 in Bettendorf. Survivors include a son, Eric Murphy, Rock Island; two granddaughters; and a sister, June Tucker, Davenport.

Robert Paradise
MOLINE -- Services for Robert L. Paradise, of Glendale, Calif., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Cemetery , Moline. Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, is in charge of local arrangements. Mr. Paradise died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Verdugo Hills Hospital, Glendale. He retired in 1985 from Aid-U Vending Co., Van Nuys, Calif. He was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Waterloo, Iowa. He married Frances McClean in 1948 in Moline. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Memorials may be made to LaCanada (Calif.) Presbyterian Church or LaCanada (Calif.) Seminarian Care Fund. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Christine Paradise, Pasadena, Calif.; a son, the Rev. Louis Paradise, Coalinga, claif.; four grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Paradise, Dubuque, Iowa.

Kathleen Duffield
DAVENPORT -- Services for Kathleen E. Carstensen Duffield, of Davenport, will be 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mrs. Duffield died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at her home. Kathleen K. Janney was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Davenport, to Hugh E. and Kathryn (Dorgan) Janney. She was a graduate of the Villa De Chantel school, Rock Island. She married Joseph E. Carstensen on June 15, 1946, at St. Anthony's in Davenport. He died June 5, 1956. She married Harley Duffield on Dec. 30, 1959, in Davenport. He died Dec. 18, 1968. She was employed as a bookkeeper at V.J. Neu Oldsmobile in Davenport. She retired in 1997. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and the Monthly Card Club. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Care and Share or Genesis Hospice. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Zirkel, sDavenport; sons, Richard A. and Edward M. Carstensen, Davenport; grandsons, Jason and Brian Zirkel and Zachary and Ryan Carstensen; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and James Mellenger, Sunnyvale, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Janney, Houston; a sister-in-law, Judy Janney, Davenport; and several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline Janney, Sept. 26, 1947, and a brother, Hugh Janney, June 15, 1977.

DAVENPORT -- Services for A. Evan Stoughton, of Davenport, will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service recited at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Stoughton died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at his home in Davenport, after an extended illness. He was a graduate of Creighton University in 1959 with a bachelor's degree and began his employment at Doyle and Keenan P.C. in Davenport in 1959. He received his Certified Public Accountant certificate in 1961. He retired March 31, 1998, as a managing partner of Doyle and Keenan CPAs. He was a four-year veteran of the Navy. He served during the Korean War. He was born Dec. 4, 1932, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Clell and Pearl (Allen) Stoughton. He married Mary T. Pfanenstiel on Aug. 25, 1962, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island. He was a member and former treasurer of Knights of Columbus 532, Davenport; member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Holy Family Boosters Club, Holy Family School Board and Holy Name Society. He also was a member of Assumption High School Boosters Club and American Institute and Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants, member and past officer of Creighton Alumni Club and Serra Club member. He was longtime treasurer of the Vera French Community Mental Health Center and member and past treasurer of the Mississippi Valley Fair Ground Board. Memorials may be made to Holy Family. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Anne and her husband John Underwood, Krakow, Poland; sons, Dan Stoughton and his wife Sue, Gaithersburg, Md., Joe Stoughton and his wife Carrie, Davenport, and Tony Stoughton, Sunnyvale, Calif.; grandchildren, Meggie, Mitchell and Robby; sisters, Janet Auterman, Dubuque, Iowa, and Donna Hart, Shawano, Wis.; and a brother, Dr. Richard Stoughton, Shawano, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jimmy Stoughton, March 2, 1972. May they rest in peace.
