Martha Mae Ballinger
January 2, 1921 - January 2, 2007

-Funeral Service: Friday, January 5th, 2:00 PM in Bethany Lutheran Church.

-Interment: Aspen Grove Cemetery , Burlington, Iowa
A memorial has been established for Bethany Lutheran Church.

Martha Mae Ballinger, 86, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 5:15 a.m., January 2, 2007, at Great River Medical Center.

Born January 2, 1921 at Stuart, Iowa, she was the daughter of Oscar George and Della May Moore Carpenter. On January 11, 1938, she married Len Pearl Ballinger in Adel, Iowa. He died June 8, 1987.

Mrs. Ballinger was a homemaker. She also worked for twelve years as a health aide, eight years at Sterzing Potato Chip Company and three years at National Research Bureau.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and its Rebecca Church Circle, Senior Saints, and Golden Oldies. She loved to play cards, flowers, cardinals, dancing, crocheting and her family. She loved to cook, especially homemade donuts.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn (David) Stout of Grimes, Iowa; four sons, Carl (Sharon) Ballinger of High Ridge, Missouri, Leslie (Shirley) Ballinger of Burlington, Mark (Dana) Ballinger of Washington, Illinois and David (Jean) Ballinger of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and three sisters, Alice Francis of Perry, Iowa, Mary Sherlock of California and Velma Sheldahl of Menlo, Iowa

Her husband, parents, six sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Zachary Martin Balzer
December 16, 1976 - April 13, 2007

-Family Visitation: Tuesday April 17th, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM
-Funeral Service: Wednesday, April 18th, 1:30 PM in Lunning Chapel
Reverend Jack Wolgamuth will officiate.
-Interment: Prairie Grove Cemetery , West Burlington
A memorial has been established.

Zachary Martin Balzer, 30, of West Burlington, Iowa died at 4:54 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born December 16, 1976 in Burlington, he was the son of Randall E. and Candice L. Johnson Balzer.

Mr. Balzer was of the Methodist faith. He loved to watch all races, especially NASCAR. He enjoyed antique tractors, and was a big Hawkeye fan for both basketball and football.

Survivors include his mother, Candice L. Johnson of West Burlington; father and stepmother, Randall E. and Kathy Balzer of West Burlington; sister, Jennifer (Brad) Hoenig of Burlington; nephew and niece, Caleb and Grace Hoenig of Burlington; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) M. Balzer of West Burlington and Mr. and Mrs. John (Juanita) Johnson of West Burlington; five step brothers; one step sister; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Helen Morien Baumgaertner
June 26, 1917 - September 4, 2006

There will be no visitation at this time
Private family inurnment will take place at a later date
According to her wishes, the body of Mrs. Baumgaertner has been cremated.

Helen Morien Baumgaertner, 89, of Fort Dodge, Iowa died at 10:50 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2006, at Fort Madison Health Center in Fort Madison, Iowa.

Born June 26, 1917 in Fort Dodge, she was the daughter of Oscar and Bertha Dayton Kallansrud. She married Clarence “Bummy” Baumgaertner February 8, 1953 in Fort Dodge. He died August 3, 2006.

She worked for many years for General Electric and was a member of Springstead Fire Belles. She was a collector of cookbooks and coins.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice (Randy) Culver of Berne, Indiana and Latitia (Raymond) McNeese of West Burlington, Iowa; two sons, Ronald Hay of Missouri and Robert (Kathy) Hay of Ottumwa, Iowa; ten grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Grant Kallansrud of Dayton, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Becky Ogren of Kansas City, Missouri, Elise Cranston of Delano, Minnesota and Mary Baumgaertner of EauClaire, Wisconsin.

Her husband, parents, and sister, Mary Jane Kallansrud preceded her in death.

Dorothyanne Belair

August 22, 1919 - June 30, 2006

-Friends May Call: Thursday, July 6th, 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM in Lunning Chapel
-Family Visitation: Thursday, July 6th, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in Lunning Chapel
According to her wishes, the body of Mrs. Belair has been cremated.

Dorothyanne Belair, 86, of Burlington, formerly of Baton Rouge, Louisana and Toledo, Ohio, died Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:37 p.m. at her residence in Burlington.

Born August 22, 1919, in Oberlin, Ohio she was the daughter of Earl W. and Muriel A. Probert Davis. In 1944, she married Howard L. Belair at St. Clement Church in Toledo, Ohio. He died May 17, 1994.

Mrs. Belair was a homemaker and also a caregiver and volunteer for Great River Medical Center and Great River Hospice.

She was a graduate of Oberlin High School and also attended Business College in Oberlin. She was a member of SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. She was a past president of Rosary and Altar Society at St. Clement Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister for SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington and also in Baton Rouge. She enjoyed quilt making, crocheting booties for Birthright and loved nature and landscaping.

Survivors include, two sons, Jimmie H. Belair and Lynn E. Belair, both of Toledo, Ohio; two daughters, Victoria L. LaLonde of Burlington and Christina M. Belair of Toledo, Ohio; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

Her parents, husband, one son, and two brothers preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Lida Elizabeth Berquist
Died March 13, 2007

A private graveside funeral service will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery , Burlington, Iowa

Lida Elizabeth Berquist passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. She was the daughter of Frank Thomas and Alice Aiken Blaisdell of Keokuk, Iowa. Her husband, Richard Arthur Berquist preceded her in death on March 10, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Surviving is one sister, Adaline Alice Blaisdell Keitzer of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.

Marion Stolley Bevis
January 26, 1921 - December 4, 2005

-Services: Wednesday, December 7, 2005 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel
-Cemetery: Aspen Grove Cemetery

Marion Stolley Bevis, 84, of Burlington, died at 7:49 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2005 at New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born January 26, 1921 in Burlington, she was the daughter of S. Laird and Ruth Toothacre Hagie. On September 11, 1943 she married Dr. Robert Stolley in Burlington. Dr. and Mrs. Stolley lived in New London where Dr. Stolley practiced medicine. He died May 7, 1952. On July 17, 1954 she married J. Stewart Bevis in Burlington.

Marion was a teacher, homemaker and a dedicated and loving mom. Her greatest joys in life were her children. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Burlington, P.E.O., TTT, and Hetta Gilbert. She belonged to several bridge clubs, played golf and tennis, volunteered at Burlington Medical Center and for the Red Cross. She worked diligently on her high school reunion committee for years.

She was a 1939 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1943 graduate of the University of Iowa.

Survivors include son, Peter (Billie) Bevis of Des Moines; two daughters, Gale (Ralph) Johnson of New London and Jo (Ben) Hildebrand of Burlington and son Robb (Kathy) Bevis of Prior Lake, Minnesota; 20 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Betty Thompson of Rio Verde, Arizona.

Her husband, Dr. Robert Stolley; son, Stewart Bevis; parents; and one brother Laird Hagie preceded her in death.

Visitation will be noon to 8:00 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Steven Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for New London Nursing and Rehab Center and may be mailed to Lunning Chapel, 2620 Mt. Pleasant St., Burlington, IA 52601.

Ronald Thomas "Tom" Bliesener

November 22, 1950 - May 3, 2006

-Family will receive Friends: Wednesday, May 10th, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
in Lunning Chapel
- Funeral Service: Wednesday, May 10th, 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel

Ronald Thomas “Tom” Bliesener, 55, of Fairfield and formerly of Burlington died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Washington County Hospital.

Born November 22, 1950 he was the son of Ronald and Roberta Gabeline Bliesener. He married Tammy Kiersey June 28, 1970.

Mr. Bliesener was a 1969 graduate of Burlington High School and also attended Southeast Community College, Iowa State University and University of Iowa. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at I.S.U.

He worked in construction and for the past 15 years resided at Cedar Creek Rescare Facility in Fairfield.

In his youth, he played in Little League and enjoyed playing baseball and was excellent in basketball. He enjoyed the phone calls and visits with his family and the cards and letters he received from First United Church of Christ in Burlington where he was a member. He also enjoyed reading the Hawk Eye and keeping up with events in his hometown. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and talked about them and showed their pictures to everyone. He was a huge Hawkeye fan, following all their games.

Survivors include his son, Josh (Shelly) Lamm of Tucson, Arizona; two grandchildren, Lauren and Gannon; his mother, Roberta Bliesener of Burlington; three brothers, Jerry (Debbie) Bliesener, Sr., Richard (Kay) Bliesener and Robert Bliesener all of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

His father, Ronald Bliesener, preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established.
