Harold Breuer
January 7, 1923 - October 12, 2005

Harold Leroy Breuer, 82, of West Burlington died at 10:05 AM Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born January 7, 1923, in Des Moines County, he was the son of Martin Carl and Nellie Lakey Breuer. After the death of his parents, he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Arthur and Etta Breuer. On November 17, 1943, he married Gertrude "Arline" Ebert in Burlington.

For 38 years, Mr. Breuer was a tool and die foreman for J.I.Case Co, retiring in 1983.

He was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a World War II and Korean War Army Air Corps veteran. He was of the Protestant faith. H was a ember of American Legion and Eagles Club. H enjoyed gardening, collecting and watching trains, trout fishing in Colorado and reading.

Survivors include his wife and one daughter, Lynda Breuer of West Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one infant son.

A memorial has been established for the West Burlington Fire Department.

Mildred L. Brewer
April 24, 1923 ~ June 26, 2006

- Memorial Funeral Service: Thursday, June 29th, 2:00 PM in Lunning Chapel
Pastor Erick Swanson will officiate.

According to her wishes, the body of Mrs. Brewer has been cremated.

Mildred “Millie” Lucille Brewer, 83, of Morning Sun, and formerly of West Burlington, died at 5:03 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2006 at Great River Medical Center.

Born April 24, 1923 in Carman, Illinois, she was the daughter of Lonnie Richard and Agnes Sullivan Pendleton. On April 24, 1946 she married Wayne Brewer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. He died March 26, 2004.

Mrs. Brewer was a graduate of Burlington High School. She worked at both Sylvania and Witte’s Drug Store. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Royal Neighbors and loved to cook, read and work word search puzzles.

Survivors include two sons, Roger (Diane) Brewer of Northglenn, Colorado and Ronald (Sherry) Brewer of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Rosalie (Ralph) Dean of Morning Sun and Roxanne (Bob) Reeves of Floresville, Texas; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Her husband; son, Dwight Brewer; and parents preceded her in death.

Carol Rae Brissey

July 18, 1937 - December 6, 2005

Carol Rae Brissey, 68, of Burlington, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 3, 1955, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Clarence G. and Juanita L. Bailey Poland. On July 3, 1955 she married Charles E. Brissey in Burlington.

Mrs. Brissey was a homemaker, collected dolls, enjoyed playing Bingo and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Brissey of Burlington; two sons, Charles E. (Athena) Brissey, Jr., of Virginia, Illinois and Jeffrey (Cynthia) Brissey of Yelm, Washington; two daughters, Deb Heater of Burlington and Barbara (Steve) Randall of West Burlington; eight grandchildren, Nick Brissey, Jamie Edwards, Tammy Stephenson, Keyst Heater, Sara Aipperspach, David Randall, Garrett Brissey, and Nick Brissey; three great grandchildren, Kyler Heater, Isabella Edwards and Keyan Heater; five sisters, LaQuita Brown of West Burlington, Delores Witte of Wever, Marilyn McGinity of New London, Karen Belcher of Burlington, and Beverly Myllo of Lakewood; and one brother, Charles Poland of Quincy, Illinois.

Great grandson, Dawson Stephenson; her parents; brother, Clarence Poland; and sister in infancy, Shirley Poland preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established.

Margie Ann Broeg
June 20, 1932 ~ September 16, 2008

A memorial has been established for the Blair House Activities Program.

Mrs. Margie Ann Broeg, 76, of Burlington died at 12:13 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Blair House due to cancer.

Born June 20, 1932 in Burlington she was the daughter of Ira and Lois Andrews Wagler. On December 15, 1951 she married Richard H. Broeg in Amarillo, Texas. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1960.

Mrs. Broeg was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington School of Business. She was a clerk at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1975.

Margie enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and playing the piano. She had made her home at Blair House since January 2004. She enjoyed playing BINGO while living there.

Survivors include one daughter, Melodie (Robert) Marmion of Wever; one son, Roger Broeg of Topeka, Kansas; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two brothers, Larry Wagler of Columbus Junction and Lawrence Eugene Wagler of Morning Sun Care Center.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death.

Jackie Ann Cupps Brown
September 6, 1956 - August 16, 2006

-Friends May Call: Friday, August 18th, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Lunning Chapel
-Family Visitation: Friday, August 18th, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Lunning Chapel
-Funeral Service: Friday, August 18th, 7:00 PM in Lunning Chapel
Pastor Jeremy Lite and Reverend Lola Robison will officiate.
According to her wishes, the body of Mrs. Brown will be cremated following the
funeral service.
A memorial has been established.

Jackie Ann Cupps Brown, 49, of Burlington and formerly of Columbus Junction, Morning Sun and Winfield areas died Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at Great River Medical Center.

Born September 6, 1956 in Casa Grande, Arizona, she was the daughter of Jack and Shirley Dilts Cupps. She married Jerry Bown.

Mrs. Brown was a 1975 graduate of Columbus Community High School. She enjoyed drawing, puzzles and music and was a good cook.

Survivors include one son, Michael Cupps of Burlington; one daughter, Megga Brown of Burlington; her mother, Shirley Cupps of Columbus City; three brothers, Jim Cupps of Columbus City, Jeff Cupps of Burlington and Jerry Cupps of Columbus City; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her father and grandparents preceded her in death.

Earl Brown
July 11, 1913 - October 19, 2005

-Services:Monday, October 24, 2005 at 10:30 AM in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery for Graveside Memorial Service.

Earl G. Brown, 92, of Burlington died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 11, 1913 in Burlington, he was the son of Thomas W. and Clara E. Wolverton Brown. On March 14, 1948 he married Elvina J. Poggemiller in Burlington.

Mr. Brown was of the Catholic faith. He was a veteran of both the US Army serving during World War II and the US Naval Reserve serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked on Line 1 at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 25 years and was a past member of the Eagles and a member of the American Legion and Civil Defense Auxiliary. He was the floor manager for Kenny’s Roller Ranch for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Elvina Brown of Burlington; two sons, Russell (Mary) Brown and David (Cassandra) Brown both of Burlington; one daughter, Theresa A. Roberts of Beaumont, California; 11 grandchildren, Matthew Brown, Marty Brown, Molly Brown, Christopher Jones, Stacey Roberts, Angela Roberts, Alicia Brown, Michael Brown, Kelly Rice, Trenton Brown and Sabrina Brown; 9 great grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Virgie) Brown of Burlington and Thomas (Karen) Brown of Lubbock, Texas; and one sister, Betty (Wayne) Brown of West Burlington.

One daughter, Anna Brown; his parents; two brothers; five sisters, and twins in infancy preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established.

Michael D. Brunken
August 15, 1958 ~ April 4, 2006

Michael D. Brunken, 47, of Burlington died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at Great River Medical Center. Born August 15, 1958 in Burlington, he was the son of Donald Eugene and Shirley Ann Mosena Brunken. On July 5, 1993 he married Diane L. Minton in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mr. Brunken was a 1977 graduate of Burlington High School and worked in maintenance and as a mechanic for the City of Burlington, Waste Water Treatment.

He was a member of the Wild Turkey Federation and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the 1975 BHS Grayhounds baseball team that won State Championship and he coached T-Ball and Little League.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Brunken of Burlington; two sons, Travis Brunken and Zachary Brunken both at home; one sister, Shirley Ann (David) Milford of Grady, Alabama; two brothers, Jeffrey (Nona) Brunken and Richard (Donna) Brunken both of Burlington; four nieces; four nephews; two great nieces and one great nephew.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and Travis and Zach’s education.

According to Mr. Brunken’s wishes, his body will be cremated following the funeral service.

Shirley Ann Brunken

March 24, 1934 - February 1, 2006

-Visitation: Friday, February 3, 2005 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in Lunning Chapel and Saturday, February 4, 2006 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the family will not be present

Shirley Ann Brunken, 71, of Burlington, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at her home.

Born March 24, 1934 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Glenn Parks and Lucille Ethel Robinson Mosena. On June 9, 1952 she married Donald Eugene Brunken in Burlington. He died April 20, 1986.

Mrs. Brunken was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School and was president of the Reunion Committee for class of 1952. She was a seamstress at Today’s Modern Option and also was the secretary/bookkeeper at Big River Lumber Co. After her retirement she worked at Wendy’s and Today’s Modern Option. She was a member of Moose Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, Solo Singles Club, and a past member of Des Moines County Riding Club and was a Girl Scout leader. She loved to sew, make teddy bears, paint birdhouses and enjoyed flowers.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (David) Milford of Alabama; three sons, Jeffrey (Nona) Brunken, Richard (Donna) Brunken, and Michael (Diane) Brunken all of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Chad Simmons, Sara Simmons, Abby Brunken, Gabriel Brunken, Jade Gnann, Zachary Brunken, and Travis Brunken; three great grandchildren, Jacob Simmons, Courtney Brunken and Ellie Brunken; three brothers, Tom Mosena of Burlington, Dan Mosena of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Robert Mosena of Fort Myers, Florida; two sisters, Carolyn Brown of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Mary Bernard of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Her husband, grandson Ryan, and parents preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Battered Women’s Shelter and Younghouse Family Services.
