HOWARD BRYANT
John "Howard" Bryant was born September 4, 1910 on a farm in Decatur county, Iowa to Mary (Browning) and Albert Bryant. He attended country school until the eighth grade. The family moved south of Beaconsfield, Iowa where he attended four years of high school, graduating from Beaconsfield in 1929.
On May 3, 1933, he married Naomi Scott at the Creston parsonage in Creston, Iowa. He lived and worked on the family century farm west of Beaconsfield for 65 years. Howard would sing, whistle or hum while working.
He worked at the A.S.C. office and still found time to be involved in many community activities. He served as president of the Beaconsfield school board, was a member of the election board, telephone board and draft board. Howard also served as a 4-H leader for the Beacon Bombers for several years as well as being involved with the Beaconsfield high school basketball team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Bryant; his grandson Dougie; his brother Ralph; and his sister Alice.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Naomi of Mount Ayr, Iowa; three children, Billy and fiancée Kathy of Des Moines, Iowa, Bobby and wife Rae of Glen Rock, Wyoming and Beth Elaine of Arvada, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; a sister Ethel; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Friday, November 17, 2000 with Pastor Rick Hawkins officiating. Mrs. Gregg Cannon was the organist. Musical selections were "Under His Wings" and "Amazing Grace." Casket bearers were Steve Bryant, Matt O'Neal, Gary Bryant, Larry Bryant, John Stanley and Hugh Whitson. Honorary pallbearers were T. J. O'Neal, Dan Stanley, Jeff Gilbert, Becki Bryant and Michelle Ryan.
Howard was laid to rest in the Grand River Cemetery , Grand River, Iowa.

RAYMOND WILLIAM EGGERT
Raymond W. Eggert was born March 5, 1920 at Talmage, Nebraska to William and Esther (Shepard) Eggert and departed this life November 17, 2000 at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa at the age of 80 years, eight months and 12 days.
Raymond, known as "Eggie" attended school at Unadilla, Nebraska. In May of 1942 he entered the U. S. Army and served his country until October of 1945. Raymond was proud that he and both of his sons served in the military.
On December 23, 1946, Raymond was united in marriage to Glenna Mae Frame in Lincoln, Nebraska. Two sons were born to this union, William Lee and John Wesley. They made their home in Unadilla until February of 1959 when they moved to rural Clearfield, Iowa.
Raymond enjoyed farming and was always happy being able to hitch the mules to the wagon and give his grandchildren and friends rides or enter it in one of the parades in the area towns.
He was a member of the Clearfield United Methodist Church, the Woodside Post #97 of the American Legion and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #1797 Post Theodore J. Marten of Creston, Iowa.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, William and Esther Eggert; a grandson Michael Eldon Eggert; one sister and two brothers.
Left to survive his memory are his wife Glenna Eggert of Clearfield; sons, William L. Eggert and John W. Eggert and special friend Dorothy Lasley, all of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren, Kevin (wife Kim) Eggert, Darwin Eggert and his special friend Sherri Brokaw, Andy Eggert, and Kristine (husband Nick) Jackson; eight great-grandchildren; one sister Darlene West of Kansas City, MO; brothers, Roland (wife Patricia) Eggert of Auburn, Nebraska, Harlan Eggert of Chanute, Kansas and Wesley (wife Carol) Eggert of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; a half sister Jeanette (husband Rex) Piesker of Richmond, Kansas; a special aunt Dorothy Tackett of Beaverton, Oregon; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield on Monday, November 20, 2000 with Reverend Alan Rusk officiating. Musicians were Patty Parrish and Carol Ann Kinder. Casket bearers were Ray Dean Larsen, Lewis Larson, Gerald Zoller, Doug Boyer, Fred Siverly and Ronald Brown.
Raymond was laid to rest at West Fairview Cemetery , Lenox, Iowa. Military graveside rites were given by Woodside Post #97, American Legion.

HELEN NAOMA HOOVER
Helen Naoma Hoover, 78, of Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Denver, Colorado, died Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at Applewood Living Center following a brief illness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 24, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Kanawha, Iowa.
A Committal Service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, conducted by Reverend John Brillo. There will be a luncheon following the service at the First Chrisitan Church.
There were no services planned in Colorado. Cremation was held at the Howe Mortuary, Longmont, CO.
Mrs. Hoover was born July 29, 1922 in Kanawha, Iowa to Henry and Tena (Thorsdahl) Lien. She attended and graduated from country schools in the Kanawha area and later studied at a business college in Des Moines, Iowa. She married Glen E. Hoover in December, 1946 in Kanawha. The couple lived and raised their family in Iowa until 1951, whereupon they moved to Denver, Colorado. They moved to Coronado, California in 1976 and Lake Jennings, California in 1978.
Helen was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church of Kanawha and enjoyed social activities especially her gardening and bridge clubs.
Survivors include her son Stuart Hoover of Denver, Colorado; a daughter Mary (Mrs. Bruce) Farwell of Longmont, Colorado; and four grandsons: Matthew, Jay, Christopher and Jonathan Farwell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1990; one brother Daryl Lien; and three sisters: Marjorie Simmerson, Esther Bryant and Carol Whitty.
Memorials may be made to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church of Kanawha in care of the Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, CO 80501.

FRANCES ARLENE CABARET SOBOTKA
Frances Arlene Cabaret was born to John and Jessie Hall Cabaret October 20, 1910, the youngest of five girls. They lived northwest of Mount Ayr, Iowa where she attended school and graduated from Mount Ayr high school with the class of 1928. She then taught country school and gave piano lessons.
On May 11, 1932 she married Edward Frank Sobotka and became the mother of three young children, Donald, Leonard and Norma Jean. Born later to this union were two sons, David Milton and Loren Ivan.
They made their home on the family farm south of Diagonal, Iowa. Frances kept busy with her garden, her chickens, the comunity women's club, 4-H leader, church activities, but most of all, raising her family.
She and Edd made room in their home for teachers, family, visitors and friends of the children. She especially enjoyed having the grandchildren stay and always had time to play.
In 1959 she and Edd moved into Diagonal where they still gardened. Frances put in many hours quilting, and at her favorite hobby, fishing.
On October 1, 1981 she moved to Southview Housing where she was busy writing poetry and music, and (when asked) for special occasions and the Diagonal Centennial.
She passed away November 15, 2000 at Mount Ayr Clearview Nursing Home following a short illness.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Edd; children, Leonard and Norma Jean; one grandchild and one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Ruth and Rhada.
Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Esther of Greenwood, Arkansas and Ethel of Hills, Iowa; sons Donald and Jorene Sobotka, David and Lois Anne Sobotka, and Ivan and Sharon Sobotka; also Roy and Nancy Lumbard and Venita Schmidt; plus 21 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren, several great-greats, many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Services were held Saturday, November 18, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Diagonal with Reverend Pam Farren officiating. Judy Newton was the organist. Casket bearers were Jerry Sobotka, Randy Sobotka, Duane Sobotka, Brian Sobotka, Brent Sobotka, Darwin Sobotka, Ed Sobotka, Tim Sobotka and Spencer Lumbard.
Frances was laid to rest in the Diagonal Cemetery , Diagonal.
Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

DAVID MILTON SOBOTKA
David Milton Sobotka was born December 17, 1934, at home south of Diagonal, Iowa, to Edward and Frances (Caberet) Sobotka.
David graduated from Diagonal high school in 1953. He served his country in the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1955. On January 29, 1956, he was united in marriage to Lois Anne Allen at the Diagonal Methodist Church. They are the parents of five children: Dan Edward, Brian David, Brent Ivan, Rhonda Lois, and Darwin Gene.
David was a farmer living his entire life on the farm. He enjoyed antique tractors, camping, woodworking, playing cards and farming. He was a whiz at Pictionary and looked forward to his morning coffee with the guys. David was a member of the United Church of Diagonal, Diagonal Lions Club, American Legion, Morris-Herrold Post #395 and the neighborhood card club.
David passed away on October 17, 2001, at the Kavanagh House in West Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son Dan Edward; a brother Leonard Andrew Sobotka; a sister Norma Jean Lumbard; and sisters-in-law, Kay Allen and Mildred Sobotka.
David is survived by his loving wife Lois Anne of Diagonal; his children, Brian and wife Pam of Creston, Iowa, Brent of Diagonal, Rhonda Lohmann and husband Mike of Des Moines, Iowa and Darwin and wife Michele of Clearfield, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Stacey and Travis Sobotka, Anthony, Cassidy, Madison and Josh Lohmann and Katelyn and Jacob Sobotka; brothers, Donald Edward Sobotka and wife Jorene of Beaconsfield, Iowa and Ivan Sobotka and wife Sharon of Diagonal; his father and mother-in-law, Cecil and Lois Allen of Mount Ayr; brothers-in-law, Roy Lumbard and wife Nancy of Creston and Willis Allen and friend Sue of Tingley, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Venita Schmidt of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Kay Drake and husband Lloyd of Mount Ayr; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 19, 2001, at the United Church of Diagonal in Diagonal with Reverend Karen Garrison officiating. Musicians were Judy Newton and Sherry Wiley. Casket bearers were Mike Schaefer, Kenny Schaefer, Jack Stephens, Chuck Klejch, Terry Moffitt and Monte Starlin.
Honorary pallbearers were Carol Sobotka, Bob Schaefer, Lowell Schaefer, Claire Newton, David Wiley and Alan Bentley.
Military rites were conducted by Morris-Herrold Post #395 American Legion.
David was laid to rest in the Diagonal Cemetery , Diagonal.
Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.

CLIFFORD HARRY TAYLOR
Clifford H. Taylor, 95, of Tabor, Iowa, died October 17, 2001, at Grape Community Hospital, Hamburg, Iowa, after a brief illness.
He was born April 20, 1906, in Whiting, Iowa to Harry and Sadie Taylor. He was raised and lived north of Bartlett, Iowa until 1958 when he moved to Kellerton, Iowa where he lived for 37 years prior to moving to Tabor in 1995.
He was a farmer prior to his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He attended Bartlett high school. His hobbies included collecting automobile license plates and barbed wire and antiques.
Clifford was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Vivian Taylor; his two brothers, Clark and Perk Taylor; and his sister Helen Taylor.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years Roberta Lorimor Taylor of Tabor; his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Susan Taylor of Vero Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Jeff Taylor, Matt Taylor and Pamela Taylor Wallace of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 21, 2001, at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Reverend Terry Roberts officiating. Musicians were Richard and Camille Jackson. Casket bearers were Kim Gorman, Richard Jackson, Harold Cooper, Roger O'Dell, Leroy Trimble and Russell Norris.
Clifford was laid to rest in the Maple Row Cemetery , Kellerton.

INEZ MAE KNEEDLER
Inez Mae Kneedler was born Monday, August 28, 1922 at home in Ring-gold county, Iowa, the daughter of Otis and Maude (Smith) Marshall.
Inez's father passed away at a young age and Inez welcomed Milo Morse as her stepfather. Inez passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2000 at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Inez was united in marriage to Cecil Kneedler on November 4, 1939 at Bethany, Missouri. To this union five children were born.
She lived her life in central and southern Iowa. Since 1966, she has lived in the Redding and Mount Ayr area.
Inez was a loving mother. She really enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She like to play cards, work on crafts and she would enjoy camping and vacation trips with her family.
Inez was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Maude Marshall; her stepfather Milo Morse; her husband Cecil on December 17, 1978; a son Jerry on December 14, 1999; four sisters, Gladys Rinehart, Jennie Gregg, Lucille Webb and Opal Adkission; and three brothers, Vern, Oland and Gernie Marshall.
Left to mourn her passing are her children: LaVenia Stump and her husband Ernest of Woodward, Iowa, Cecil Eugene and his wife Lettie of Winterset, Iowa, Linda Kohl and her husband Gene and Judy Dillenburg and husband Eugene, all of Mount Ayr; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 24, 2000 at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr with Pastor Rick Hawkins officiating. Musicians were Debbie Cannon, Mary Trullinger and Margaret Bickers.
Casket bearers were Bob Saxton, James Huffman, Doug Brown, Michael Storey, Jody Kneedler and Chris Kneedler. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Young, Levi Huffman, Billy Young, Clayton Kneedler, Brandon Saxton and Dillion Kneedler.
Inez was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Mount Ayr.

SELMA IRENE MOSIER
Selma Irene (Petersen) Mosier was born November 9, 1915 in Sheldahl, Iowa, to H. J. and Mattie (Buche) Petersen. She grew up in the Sheldahl area. Before her marriage, she worked as a dental technician in Ames, Iowa.
She married Eugene Mosier on July 16, 1938 in Albany, Missouri. Gene and Selma had three children: Thomas, Margaret and LuAnn.
For most of their married life they farmed the family farm southeast of Mount Ayr, Iowa. They sold the farm in 1992 and moved into Mount Ayr.
Selma was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was active until her health failed. She was a 4-H leader when her daughters were in 4-H. She taught Sunday school at Clearview Home. For many years she served on the Mount Ayr Public Library board.
Selma passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2000 at the Health Care Center in Mount Ayr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H. J. and Mattie Petersen; a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Noble Christianson; brother Charles Petersen; sister-in-law Charmion Mosier; and brother-in-law Arlo Mosier.
She is survived by her husband Eugene; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Linda Mosier of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Darryl Torrin of Denver, Iowa; daughter LuAnn Mosier of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandson C. J. Mosier of North Carolina; brother-in-law Frank Mosier and wife Diane of Fresno, California; and longtime family friends Dixie Lemme of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Betty and Cecil Davenport as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 28, 2000, at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr with Reverend Diana Holland officiating. Musicians were Nancy Sackett and Debbie Larson with musical selections "Until Then," and "Peace In The Valley."
Casket bearers were C. J. Mosier, Bob Christner, Barton Shields, Cecil Davenport, Robert Campbell and Jerry Shields. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Mosier, Roger Schnoor, Darrel Adams, Bob Sickels, Kyle Shaha, Joe Mosier, Thayne Lowman, Richard Saltzman, Gene Y. Mosier, Woodrow Saltzman, Robert Christianson and Roger Billerey-Mosier.
Selma was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Mount Ayr.
