Helen Krenk
Services were Aug. 11, 2000 for Helen Rose Krenk, 84, of Ida Grove at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Gerald M. Fisch officiated with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Ida Grove under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Krenk died Aug. 6 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Krenk was born Aug. 26, 1915, in Linwood, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Clara (Pospichal) Barcel. She was raised and educated in Nebraska.

She married Ferdinand J. "Fred" Krenk April 29, 1941, in Abbey, Neb. In 1943, the couple moved to Ida Grove, where they farmed until retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and over the years was active in the Altar Society.

Survivors include five sons and their wives, Fred R. and Juella "Jo" Krenk of Wayne, Neb., John R. and Rachel Krenk of Ida Grove, Gerald L. and Carol Krenk of Schoolcraft, Mich., Benedict J. "Benny" and Colleen Krenk of Sunrise, Fla. and Garden Grove, Calif., and Bernard P. and Carol "Loni" Krenk of Ida Grove; 11 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Urban of Prague, Neb., and Emma Bohaty of Seward, Neb.

Pam Turin
Memorial services were Aug. 10, 2000 for Pam Turin, 56, of Kiron at First Baptist Church in Kiron. The Rev. Wayne Fritzinger officiated with inurnment in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

She died Aug. 4 at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

Ms. Turin was born June 12, 1944, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Ernest and Alice (Bassett) Turin. She was baptized Feb. 22, 1948 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ida Grove. Most recently, she attended the First Baptist Church in Kiron.

In 1962, she graduated from Ida Grove High School, where she participated in many activities including basketball, pep, dance and marching band, Shag Whak Calimus and was a prom server and queen candidate. She later attended Wayne State University.

She was a member of the Quarter Horse Association for more than 20 years. She trained horses, raised miniature schnauzers, was active in the Ida County 4-H program and enjoyed judging horses at the fair.

Survivors include a sister, Jan Southard of Fort Morgan, Colo.; and a niece, Jodie and her husband, Jeff Buchanan of Greeley, Colo.; and their children, J.L. and Grant.

Mary Ann Johnson
Graveside services were Aug. 18, 2000 for Mary Ann Petit Johnson, 96, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Battle Creek, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek.

Mrs. Johnson died July 22 at the Manor Care Assisted Living in Tucson, Ariz.

Survivors include a son, Kyle Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and five great-greatgrandchildren.

Tillie Miller
Services were Aug. 14, 2000 for Tillie K. Miller, 84, of Holstein, formerly of Sheldon, at the United Methodist Church in Holstein. Graveside services were at Eastlawn Cemetery in Sheldon under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

She died Aug. 10 at Holstein Good Samaritan Center.

Fred Alexander
Private services were Aug. 6, 2000 for Fred E. Alexander, 51, of Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Ida Grove, at Indian Lake in Palm Bay, Fla.

Mr. Alexander died July 30 at his home.

Mr. Alexander was born Feb. 5, 1949, in Wilmar, Minn., the son of Roy and Mary (Harroun) Alexander. He was a former Ida County deputy in Ida Grove. He moved to Palm Bay in 1998. He was a punch operator for High Tech Fabrications.

Survivors include a son, Matthew Alexander of Atlantic; a daughter, Roxanne Alexander of Ida Grove; a sister, Star Grady of Melbourne, Fla., and a grandson, Austin Alexander of Atlantic.

Earl Sorensen
Services were Aug. 16, 2000 for Earl Henry Sorensen, 80, of Holstein at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. The Rev. Curtis Benson officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Sorensen died Aug. 13 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mr. Sorensen was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Ida Grove, the son of Henry Jr. and Emma (Grell) Sorensen. He grew up and lived on the Sorensen farm near Holstein with the exception of three years. He attended rural school and Holstein High School.

He married Patricia Parker Dec. 28, 1941, in Ida Grove. Following the wedding, he moved from the family farm to a farm two miles away. When his father retired, he moved back to the home place. On July 17, 1943, the couple became the parents of twin sons, Dennis and Curtis.

After the boys graduated from high school and attended college, he continued to farm and expand operations. The biggest part of his life was spent on the farm feeding cattle and working the land. However, the couple enjoyed trips to California, Florida, Alaska and Hawaii. She preceded him in death.

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Sorensen of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Dennis and his wife, Diane Sorensen of Hornick; two granddaughters, Heather and Crystal of Sioux City; and many relatives.

Helen Krenk
Funeral services for Helen Krenk, 84, of Ida Grove will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2000 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove with Rev. Gerald M. Fisch officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery , Ida Grove. Friends may call at the Christensn-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. and Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Mrs. Krenk died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Pam Turin
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000 for Pam Turin, 56, of Kiron, formerly of Ida Grove, at First Baptist Church in Kiron, with Pastor Wayne Fritzinger officiating. Inurnment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Ida Grove Cemetery . Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove are in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
She died Aug. 4, 2000 at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.
Survivors include a sister, Jan Southard of Fort Morgan, Colo.; and a niece, Jodie (Jeff) Buchanan of Greeley, Colo.

Lucille "Cella" McKinney
Services were Aug. 9, 2000 for Lucille "Cella" McKinney, 58, of Ida Grove, formerly of Des Moines, at the United Methodist Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Marvin Lindley officiated under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

She died Aug. 6 at her home.

Mrs. McKinney was born Oct. 21, 1941, in Waconda, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Ann (Lammers) Ellis. She grew up in the Corydon area and moved to Des Moines. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1960.

She married Connie McKinney Dec. 20, 1960, in Des Moines. They later divorced. In 1980 she began working as a desk clerk at Holiday Inn South in Des Moines, working her way up to administrative secretary. She moved to Ida Grove in 1996.

Survivors include her mother, Ann Ellis of Corydon; a daughter and her hus-band, Jorgann "Jo" and Richard Ret-tinghaus of Ida Grove; a son and his wife, Charles and Mar-garet McKin-ney of Elkhart; six grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Charles and Cheryl Ellis of Ankeny; and a sister and her husband, Patricia and Larry Tate of Fenton, Mo.

Mary Ann Johnson
Services are pending for Mary Ann Petit Johnson, 96, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Battle Creek, at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek.

She died Aug. 5 at Manor Care Assisted Living in Tucson, Ariz.

Hilma Fertig
Services were Aug. 3, 2000 for Hilma Marie Fertig, 95, of Odebolt at the First Presbyterian Church in Ode-bolt. The Rev. Charles Bulger offi-ciated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mrs. Fertig died July 30 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Fertig was born May 20, 1905, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Julius and Anna (Anderson) Olson. At the age of two, her family moved to Arthur. In 1918, they moved to Odebolt where she lived until her death. She graduated from Odebolt High School in 1923 While in high school she took normal training classes to prepare her as a school teacher. She then taught country school in the Odebolt area from 1923 to 1929.

She married Eugene Fertig of rural Odebolt, May 23, 1929, in Sioux City. The cou-ple farmed south of Odebolt until they retired and moved into Odebolt in 1967.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, was past president of the United Presbyterian Women and served as church secre-tary and treasurer. She was a member of Wheeler Improvement Club, Eastern Star, Past Matrons Club and Tuesday Club. She served on the library board, Odebolt fair board, was a 4-H leader and was a band booster.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dr. Kenneth and Janet Fertig of Sheldon; a son-in-law, Bob Hall of Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren, Mark Hall and John and his wife, Ann Hall, all of Overland Park, Kan. and Mike and his wife Rhonda Hall of Colorado Springs, Colo., Scott and his wife, Pam Fertig of Dallas, Texas and Dr. Steve and his wife, Li Fertig of McAllen, Texas, and Susan and her husband, Darrin Duffy of Gilbert, Ariz.; and 12 great-grand-children.

Marjorie Stephan
Services and burial were July 26, 2000 for Marjorie M. Stephan, 77, of Alta Loma, Calif., at Ontario, Calif.

Mrs. Stephan died July 21 at her home in Alta Loma.

Mrs. Stephan was born March 22, 1923, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Will and Christina Dausel. She was raised in the Battle Creek area.

She married Ralph Stephan of Ida Grove Dec. 27, 1941. The couple continued to live in the Battle Creek and Ida Grove area until the 1950s, when they moved to San Diego, Calif. He died in 1990.

She was a long-time resident of the Pamona, Calif., area and had lived in Alta Loma for the past 10 years. She was a former employee of the Mattel Toy Company.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Brown and Anne Green, both of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; two sisters, Marion Lund of Hemet, Calif., and Whelma Kern of Sioux City; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Edward "Eddie" Korneisel
Services were Aug. 4, 2000 for Edward "Eddie" William Korneisel, 91, of Mineral Springs, Ga., formerly of Odebolt, at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Charles Bulger officiated with burial in St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Odebolt, with military rites conducted by American Legion Roose Post No. 313 of Odebolt, under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mr. Korneisel died July 29 at his daughter's home in Mineral Bluff, Ga.

Mr. Korneisel was born Oct. 27, 1908, in Odebolt, the son of Richard and Wilhelmina (Brauninger) Korneisel. He was baptized and confirmed in the Ode-bolt Presbyterian Church. He grad-uated from Odebolt High School in 1926.

He operated Korneisel Cleaners on Main Street in Odebolt most of his life, from high school graduation until his retirement in 1974. The only time he was away from Odebolt prior to 1978, was the five years he served in the armed forces in Europe during World War II.

He married Lillian Ziegmann March 1, 1950. She died in 1963. His residencies from 1978 to 2000 included Scottsdale, Mesa and Cottonwood, Ariz.; Elkhorn, Wis.; and Atlanta and Mineral Bluff, Ga.

During his lifetime, he was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and Masonic Lodge, and a dedicated participant in the Odebolt community. His lifetime hobby was singing. He sang in the church choir, for many weddings and funerals, in numerous barbershop quartets and the Denison Barbershop Chorus.

Survivors include his three daughters and their husbands, Karin and Elmer Hogan of Mineral Bluff, Ga., Kathy and Dr. David Thies of Elkhorn, Wis., and Karol and John Krizka of Jupiter, Fla.; six grandchildren, Grant, Megan, Matt and Alison Thies of Elkhorn, Wis., and Ashley and Michael McCredie of Jupiter, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Bayard Johnson
Services were Aug. 7, 2000 for Bayard Johnson, 91, of Denison, formerly of Kiron, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron. The Rev. Victor N. Johnson officiated with burial in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Kiron under the direction of Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.

Mr. Bayard died Aug. 3 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.

Mr. Bayard was born May 26, 2909, in Orsjo, SmaLand, Sweden, the son of Karl and Emelia (Johannson) Johnson. His early life was spent in Sweden where he received most of his formal education. In September 1923, at the age of 14, he began his journey to the United States, sponsored by Swan and Selma Johnson. He traveled by train to Gothenberg, Sweden, where he boarded a ship for the eight day trip to New York. He spent six days at Ellis Island before boarding the train for Odebolt, where his two brothers met him.

He attended one semester of school at Wheeler Township Number 8, where he learned the English language. After schooling his first jobs were working in the wheat fields across the Midwest. On Oct. 1, 1928, he became a United States citizen in Sioux City.

He married Lillie Schultz Dec. 18, 1935, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The couple farmed in the Battle Creek and Schleswig areas before purchasing their farm north of Kiron in 1949. He devoted his life to farming and was the first farmer in Sac County to implement terracing. In 1979, the couple retired and moved to Kiron. In January 1997, they moved to the Assisted Living Unit at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. She died Jan. 3, 1999.

He was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church having served on their board, was an usher for many years and was a member of the men's club, Lutheran Brotherhood.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Johnson of Lake City, Fla.; three daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Larry Jaksoniak of Littleton, Colo., Sharon and Lyle Marquardt of Denison and Karen and Ed Wilkinson of Shelby, Mont.; six grandchildren, David Johnson of Lake City, Fla., Lynnea Solomon of Littleton, Colo., Lawrence Jaksoniak of Littleton, Colo., Toni Marquardt of Denison, Paula Hoffman of Fayetteville, N.C., and Melissa Jones of Missoula, Mont.; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law and her husband, Leona and Ted Aldag of Schleswig; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
