Richard "Nick" Furne
Services were Aug. 9, 2000 for Richard "Nick" Furne, 65, of Ruth and New Port Richey, Fla., at Smigielski Funeral Home in Minden City, Mich., Sister Theresa Carlow, S.N.D., officiated with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery of Palms.

Mr. Furne died Aug. 5 in New Port Richey, Fla.

Mr. Furne was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Battle Creek, the son of Edward Earl Sr. and Ida (Hansen) Furne. He was a graduate of Battle Creek High School. He served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam as a Chief Petty Officer and retired after 25 years. He moved to Ruth in 1971 and worked as a rural mail carrier for many years for Minden City until 1991.

He married Marjorie Fagan. She died Sept. 30, 1990.

Survivors include three daughters, Cindy and her husband, Joseph McCoy of Harbor Beach, Lisa and her husband, Robert Kolar of Palms, and Melanie Lautner of Minden City; nine grandchildren, Kerry McCoy, Ryan, Shawn and Brett McCoy, Audrey, Jessica and Katie Kolar and Nicholas and Michael Lautner; six brothers Edward L. Jr. and his wife, Ileen Furne and Dennis and Blaine Furne, all of Atlantic, Roger and Judy Furne of Battle Creek, Kendall Furne, Wesley and his wife, Diane Furne and Craig and his wife, Robin Furne, all of Denison; and three sisters and their husbands, Marla and Virgil Juhl of Elk Horn, Leanna and Jerry Jensen of Kimballton and Carla and Larry Wianans of Harlan.

Edythe Krusenstjerna
Services July 29, 2000 for Edythe J. Krusenstjerna, 99, of Odebolt at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Charles Bulger officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mrs. Krusenstjerna died July 26 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.

Mrs. Krusenstjerna was born July 20, 1901, in Sac County, the daughter of Swan and Anna (Hokanson) Anderson. She graduated from Odebolt High School in 1920 and taught in rural schools for five years.

In 1929, she married Anthony Anderson of Chicago where she was employed as a beautician for many years. He died in 1949. She returned to Odebolt and worked with Dr. McAllister and Dr. Hubiak.

In 1958, she married August Stehr. He died in 1969. In 1972, she married Russel Krusenstjerna and he died in 1979.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt.

Survivors include two stepchildren and their families, Jack and Phyllis Krusenstjerna of Odebolt and Dorothy and Delford Benson of Albuquerque, N.M.

Paul Dozler
Services were July 20, 2000 for Paul Andrew Dozler, 75, of Denison at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. The Rev. Edward Murray officiated with burial in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery , with military honors conducted by American Legion Post No. 8 of Denison, under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Mr. Dozler died July 17 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.

Mr. Dozler was born July 22, 1924, in Templeton, the son of Ed and Theresa (Herbers) Dozler. He received his education at St. Augustine's Catholic School in Halbur. After receiving his education, he began farming with his father until entering the U.S. Army June 20, 1945. He served with the Medical NCO Unit 673 and was decorated with a World War II Victory Ribbon.

After receiving his honorable discharge Nov. 10, 1946, he returned to farming with his father in the Denison area. He also did mechanical work for area farmers. He retired at age 62 after working at Farmland Foods in Denison for 21 years and farming.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Denison American Legion Post No. 8. He loved restoring old cars and taking his antique car collection to the Motor Clubs in Iowa, Missouri and Canada.

Survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Alice and Silas Holst of Grandview, Mo., and Ruth and Jim Kragel of Denison; a brother and his wife, Earl and Dorothy Dozler of Denison; and other relatives.

Pearl Lewis
Services were July 28, 2000 for Pearl Lewis, 95, of Anthon at the United Methodist Church in Anthon. The Rev. Arnold Herbst officiated with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mrs. Lewis died July 25 at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.

Mrs. Lewis was born Aug. 12, 1904, in Lebanon, Mo., the daughter of John and Mahala (Mizer) Admire. She moved with her family to the Anthon area in September 1916.

She married Robert Scates Lewis Jan. 5, 1921, in Onawa. The couple farmed for 54 years. He died Feb. 23, 1975. In November 1975, she moved into Anthon. She entered the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein in December 1995.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Good Neighbor Club.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Roberta and Marvin Petersen of Anthon and Barbara and Charles Buckley of Maurice; a son and his wife, Robert and Eleanore Lewis of Correctionville; 11 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Richard Brosamle
Services were Aug. 1, 2000 for Richard Otto Brosamle, 90, of Cushing at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing. The Rev. Joelle Colville-Hanson officiated with burial in Cushing Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Brosamle died July 28 at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.

Mr. Brosamle was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Battle Creek, the son of Richard and Johannah (Kemming) Brosamle Sr. He attended Jimmy Brown Country School and graduated from the eighth grade.

He married Madonna Kuchel Dec. 24, 1940, in Sioux City. They lived with her father until 1943, when they moved to a farm south of Cushing. In 1946, they moved to a farm west of Holstein where they farmed for 23 years. They lived in Colorado Springs from 1969 to 1985 when they returned to Cushing.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Bryan and Wyleen Brosamle of Mt. Horeb, Wis., and Mark and Nancy Bro-samle of Kearney, Neb.; three grandchildren, Mathew, Meghan and Kim; a brother and his wife, Raymond and Freda Brosamle of Cushing.

Memorials may be sent to Holstein Good Samaritan Center or St. John Lutheran Church.

Clyde Means
Services were Aug. 1, 2000 for Clyde Means, 72, of Marcus at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The Rev. Richard Remmes officiated with burial in Holy Name Cemetery , with military rites conducted by American Legion F.I. Goodburn Post 517 of Marcus, under the direction of Earnest and Roethler Funeral Home in Marcus.

Mr. Means died July 28 at a Sioux City hospital.

Mr. Means was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Marcus, the son of Louis W. and Mary (Tiel) Means. He was raised in the Marcus area and graduated from Holy Name High School. He served in the U.S. Army with the 3rd Armored Division from 1946 to 1947.

He married Norma Schiltz Oct. 1, 1950. She died in 1957. He married Hazel (Glashen) Chase Jan. 2, 1961. She died Dec. 21, 1999. He farmed for many years.

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Tom Hunt of Nisswa, Minn., Janet and Charles Wood and Connie and Charles Marchland, all of Omaha, Neb.; three sons and their wives, Roger and Cindy Means of Flower Mound, Texas, Wayne and Carol Chase and Dean and Sandy Chase, all of Allen, Neb.; a brother and his wife, Harold "Pete" and JoAnn Brosamle of Marcus; two sisters, Darlene Means of Marcus and Norma and her husband, Francis Cronin, of Holstein; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Edna Kastner
Services were July 22, 2000 for Edna Kastner, 90, of Denison at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. The Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiated with burial in Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Mrs. Kastner died July 19 at Eventide Nursing Home in Denison.

Mrs. Kastner was born Aug. 13, 1909, near Schleswig, the daughter of Fred and Louise Schultz. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith Sept. 12, 1909 and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township April 13, 1924, by Rev. Runge. She received her education at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Hanover Township.

She married Lenard Kastner Jan. 26, 1930 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the Kastner homestead farm in Otter Creek Township, where they farmed for 23 years before moving to Schleswig in 1953. He died in 1978.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, the Women's Guild and Dorcas Society, where she held various offices. She was also a member of several card clubs.

Survivors include three daughters, Delores Nemitz of Kiron, Donna Lou and her husband, Gerald Meeves of Schleswig and Edna Mae and her husband, Roger Lee Johannsen of Arthur; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister and her hus-band, Leona and Ted Aldag of Schleswig; a brother-in-law, Bayard Johnson of Denison, formerly of Kiron; and other relatives.

Roger Schramm
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Aug. 3, 2000 for Roger D. Schramm, 72, of Longmont, Colo., at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. The Rev. Bill Dion of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Longmont will officiate with cremation to follow.

Mr. Schramm died July 30 at Longmont United Hospital.

Mr. Schramm was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Arthur, the son of George and Lillian (Spahn) Schramm. He grew up in the Ida Grove area, graduating from Ida Grove High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Donna Douglas Sept. 23, 1950, in Ida Grove. The couple moved to Boulder, Colo., and then to Longmont in the early 1960s. He worked for IBM in the maintenance department for over 20 years, retiring in the early 1990s. During retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his workshop.

He was a former member of the VFW and American Legion Posts in Iowa.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Dennis Schramm of Billings, Mont., Dale and his wife, Marian Schramm of Renton, Wash., Ron and his wife, Judy Schramm of Longmont and Randy Schramm of Longmont; two grandchil-dren, Thad and Jessica; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Marguerite Schramm of Ida Grove and Merle and Audrey Schramm of Arthur; a sister, JoAnn Suda of Newburgh, Ind.; and nu-merous nieces and nephews.

Junis Rezabek
Graveside services will be Saturday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. for Junis K. Rezabek, 82, of Fort Smith, Ark., at Union Cemetery in Humboldt. The Rev. Richard Lauger officiated under the direction of Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Mrs. Rezabek died July 29 at Fort Smith, Ark.

She was the daughter of Ernest Monroe and Bessie Mable (Budd) Hinners. She married Frank Rezabek April 4, 1940. The couple made their home in Humboldt until 1964 when they purchased a Coast to Coast store in Ida Grove. In 1972, they returned to Humboldt until moving to Rogers, Ark., in 1977.

Hilma Fertig
Services will be Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. for Hilma Marie Fertig, 95, of Odebolt at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Charles Bulger officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mrs. Fertig died July 30 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Fertig was born May 20, 1905, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Julius and Anna (Anderson) Olson. She moved with her family to Arthur as a child. In 1918, they moved to Odebolt. She graduated from Odebolt High School in 1923, where she received normal training classes. She then taught country school in the Odebolt area from 1923 to 1929.

She married Eugene Fertig May 23, 1929, in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Odebolt until retiring and moving into Odebolt in 1967.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as secretary and treasurer. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Women, serving as a former president, Wheeler Improvement Club, Eastern Star, Past Matrons Club and Tuesday Club. She served on the library board, Odebolt fair board, was a 4-H leader and was a band booster.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dr. Kenneth and Janet Fertig of Sheldon; a son-in-law, Bob Hall of Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren, Mark, John and Mike Hall, Scott and Steve Fertig and Susan Duffy; and 12 great-grandchildren.
