Herbanna Ferguson
Services were June 23, 2000 for Herbanna Lagatha Ferguson, 86, of Ida Grove at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. Burial was in the Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek.

Mrs. Ferguson died June 20 at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Ferguson was born Aug. 3, 1913, in Crothersville, Ind., the daughter of Herbert Edgar and Eulalia (Rutherford) Abbott. The family came to Ida County in 1915 and farmed around Battle Creek and Cushing. She earned her eighth grade certificate in a country school near Cushing.

She married Clarence A. Burton March 11, 1929, at Elk Point, S.D. The couple had three daughters, Verna Ree, Elaine Barbara and Beverly Carol. Following his death in a farm accident in 1938, she moved her family to Ida Grove where she did domestic work.

She married Otto H. Ferguson Jan. 12, 1944. They had two daughters, Connie Elizabeth and Cathy Jo. The couple lived on the family farm northeast of Ida Grove until his death in January 1969.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. She had worked at Mid-Sioux Opportunities, Inc., in Cherokee and was an American Cancer Society volunteer.

Survivors include five daughters, Verna Ree Schumann, Elaine and her husband, Walter Strong of Ida Grove, Beverly and her husband, Jerry Tippling of Bridgewater, Connie Ferguson of Elk Point, S.D., and Cathy Jo Schmidt of Battle Creek; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, LaVerne Burton Griffith of Salt Lake City, Utah and Helen Burton of Ida Grove; and many nieces and nephews.

Glenn Rochau
Graveside services were June 22, 2000 for Glenn Rochau, 84, of Cushing at Holstein Cemetery in Holstein under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Rochau died June 17 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.

Maurine Tjossem
Services were June 22, 2000 for Maurine Tjossem, 89, of Paullina at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. The Rev. Donald Freeman officiated with burial in Prairie View Cemetery under the direction of Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina.

Mrs. Tjossem died June 18 at a Sioux City hospital.

Mrs. Tjossem was born Nov. 24, 1910, in Galva, the daughter of Charles and Wanda (Kintzel) Rix. She received her education first in Galva and later moved to Storm Lake where she graduated from Storm Lake High School. She attended and graduated from Buena Vista College. She taught school in Linn Grove for two years before moving to Paullina in 1936.

She married Howard Tjossem July 1, 1939, in Storm Lake. They lived in Storm Lake where she taught for 39 years, retiring in 1975. He died in August 1975.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, PEO, Order of Eastern Star and was a charter member of the Alpha Tau Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She had been a trustee of the Paullina Public Library since 1974.

Survivors include two nephews and their wives, William and Marlu Rix of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Charles and Sally Rix of Burnsville, Minn.; three great-nephews, Christopher, Andrew and David Rix; a great-niece, Ann Rix; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Rix of Burnsville, Minn.

Donald Fromknecht
Memorial services were June 23, 2000 for Donald R. Fromknecht, 96, of Sioux City, formerly of Galva, at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. The Rev. Roger Maize of Peterson officiated with inurnment in Graceland Park Cemetery . A Masonic service was conducted prior to the memorial service by Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Fromknecht died June 19.

Mr. Fromknecht was born Feb. 29, 1904, in Sioux City, the son of William and Addie (Graham) Fromknecht. He attended the Sioux City Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1922.

He married Rubene Zabel April 3, 1936, in Omaha, Neb. He was employed with the Chicago North Western Railroad in Sioux City and Des Moines for 46 years. He retired in 1968 as Division Freight Agent.

He began playing the trombone in 1915-16. He was involved in many brass bands, dance orchestras, polka bands and recently played in the Sioux City Senior Center Band. He also played with various jazz bands in the Texas Valley and the Abu Bekr Shrine Brass Band in Sioux City.

He was a member of Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M., Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies, the Abu Bekr Shrine, the Elks Lodge of Storm Lake, and an honorary member of the Des Moines, Mason City and other transportation clubs.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, George W. and Georgia Fromknecht of Annandale, Va., and Donald Jr. and Shirley Fromknecht of St. George, Utah; five grandchildren, Sandra Banks, George W. Fromknecht Jr., Christine Dearman, Donald R. Fromknecht Jr., and Kurt Fromknecht; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials in his name may be directed to the Abu Bekr Hospital Transportation Fund or the Sioux City Senior Center.

Lillian Lundell
Services were June 24, 2000 for Lillian Lundell, 91, of Denison at the Denison Baptist Church. The Rev. Art Anderson officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt under the direction of Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.

Mrs. Lundell died June 20 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.

Mrs. Lundell was born Sept. 22, 1908, in Odebolt, the daughter of August Werner and Signe Elizabeth (Johannsen) Dahlstrom. She was raised in Odebolt and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1925. Following high school, she moved to Omaha, Neb., where she attended Van Sant School of Business for nine months before becoming employed with Travelers Insurance Company. In 1933, she returned to Odebolt and was employed as a legal secretary for attorney, Don Mullan.

She married Edmund Gustav Lundell Jan. 26, 1934, in Papillion, Neb. The couple made their home on a farm near Kiron until 1939 when they moved to a farm north of Kiron in Ida County. In 1953, they moved to a farm east of Kiron where they resided until they retired in 1963 and moved to Denison. After moving to Denison, she was employed as a legal secretary for Raun, Franck and Mundt Law Firm, retiring in 1972.

After retiring, the couple enjoyed several cross country Greyhound bus trips visiting family and friends. He died in May 1983. She moved to Eventide Lutheran Home in August 1986. During her years there she traveled to South Carolina and California to visit family.

She was a member of Odebolt Mission Covenant Church for many years. When she moved to Denison she joined the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Paup of Denison and Marlene and her husband, Russell West of Rockport, Texas; four grandchildren, Diane and her husband, Norman Lillegard and their daughter, Sigrid of Martin, Tenn., Alan and his wife, Lori Paup and their children, James, Aaron and Alec of Creston, Gail and her husband, Stan Simpson and their children, Joshua, Courtney and Nicholas of Round Rock, Texas, and Marsha and her husband, Scott Savens and their children, Andrew, Emilee and Ellery of Round Rock, Texas; two step-great-granddaughters, Kasaundra Smith of Spicewood, Texas and Delena Nichols of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Elsie Hume and Eleanor Paton, both of Bishop, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Constance Turinsky of Sand Point, Idaho, and Eula Lundell of Rugby, N.D.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Elvira Stockfleth
Services were June 21, 2000 for Elvira Stockfleth, 87, of Mapleton at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. The Rev. Scott Fiege officiated with burial in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Service in Mapleton.

Mrs. Stockfleth died June 17 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Mrs. Stockfleth was born Dec. 16, 1912, in Crawford County, the daughter of Ernest and Selma Margaret (Hannaman) Rickert. She was baptized and confirmed in Schleswig. She and her parents farmed and lived in the Ute, Charter Oak and Schleswig communities and she attended Crawford County schools.

She married Harold Stockfleth Feb. 5, 1933, in Ute. The couple farmed in the Ute, Deloit, Battle Creek and Mapleton communities until their retirement in 1972 when they moved to Mapleton. He died in 1976.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and a member of L.C.W.

Survivors include a son, Donald Stockfleth of Marshalltown; two granddaughters, Susan Kazemba and Regina Levendosky; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Stockfleth of Kansas City, Clara Stockfleth of Ohio, and Doris Sorenson of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Ed Gosch of Mapleton; and many nieces and nephews.

Della Brown
Graveside services will be July 15, 2000 at 11 a.m. for Della L. Brown, 82, of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. The Rev. Ron Moffat will officiate in Portage.

Mrs. Brown died June 18 and the body was cremated.

Mrs. Brown was born Oct. 31, 1917, in Arcola, Saskatchewan. She married Duncan Robertson. He died in 1943. She married Burnel C. Brown Nov. 4, 1944. He died in November 1998.

She lived most of her life in Portage where she was a cook and waitress in various restaurants. She retired from the Shell Restaurant, where she worked from 1970-82. She spent the last year of her life in the care of Shelly Dunn.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Margaret and Charles Walker of Ida Grove, Irene and Kenneth McClennan of British Columbia and Patsy and Barry Baker of Canada; a son and his wife, Charles and Marie Brown of Watertown, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Robert Mitchell
Memorial services will be June 30, 2000 at 2 p.m. Robert Boyd Mitchell, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Arthur, at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt. Inurnment will follow in the Odebolt Cemetery , with full military honors conducted by American Legion Roose Post No. 313 of Odebolt, under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mr. Mitchell died June 16 at his home in Arizona.

Mr. Mitchell was born July 11, 1921, on a farm south of Arion, the son of Ben and Helen (Greder) Mitchell. At the age of 17, he joined CCC Camp, building roads, earth fills, waterways and terraces. He worked at Priebes Produce in Sac City when he met Bess Louise Ortberg Linman and was married in 1942.

He served in the United States Army three and a half years during World War II in the South Pacific. In 1946, he began farming on the family farm two miles south of Arthur, until his health forced him to move to Tucson, Ariz.

His love for the land was evident in his work with soil conservation. He was active as a 4-H leader and Ida County Fair Supervisor, served on the Odebolt Fair Board, and was an organizer of the Odebolt horse show. He was a member and served on the board at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt and later at Holy Trinity in Tucson.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert V. "Bob" Mitchell of Anamosa; two daughters and their husbands, Sharon "Sherry" and Richard Thies of Arthur and Patricia "Pat" and Doug Deisch of Lincoln, Neb.; six grandchildren, Shane and Shannon Mitchell of Baltimore, Md., Shawn and his wife, Deb Thies, of Arthur, Mindee and her husband, Lee Cranston of Odebolt, Shad and his wife, Pam Chandler of Lincoln, Neb., and Mitchell Chandler of Colorado; nine great-grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Betty Jean and Earl Meade of Bennington, Neb.; three brothers, Melvin "Butch" Mitchell of Phoenix, Ariz., Bryce and his wife, Maria Mitchell of Cedar Rapids and Leonard Mitchell of Fort Dodge; and a brother-in-law, Ed Leitz of Auburn.

Sharlotte Arp
Services were June 28, 2000 for Sharlotte Joy Arp, 66, of Holstein at the United Methodist Church in Holstein. The Rev. Judith A. Piper officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mrs. Arp died June 25 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.

Mrs. Arp was born Sept. 18, 1933, in Kingsley, the daughter of Andy and Eva (Ward) Martin. She attended school in Correctionville and graduated from Correctionville High School in 1951. She owned and operated Sharlotte's Bake Shop and Catering since 1967.

She married Harold Arp March 13, 1963, in Holstein. The couple farmed in the Holstein area for 37 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lone Star Homemakers and United Methodist Women. She was active in Circle and had been a Hugger Clown.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Debbie of Denison; a son and his wife, Gary and Nyla of Sioux City; two grandsons, Justin and Jesse; five sisters, LaVonne and her husband, Lloyd Todd, Darlene and her husband, Eugene Baker, Cheryl Harrison, Ruth and her husband, Don Groth, and Gloria and her husband, Eugene Willems; a brother and his wife, James and Noma; and many nieces and nephews.

Victor Lunzman
Victor H. Lunzman, 80, of Ida Grove died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb. following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Revs. John Schauer and Michael Saylor officiating. Burial will be in the Ida Grove Cemetery with full military honors by McNamara-Moore American Legion Post #61 of Ida Grove.

A memorial fund has been established. Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.

Victor Henry William Lunzman was born Feb. 15, 1920, near Auburn, Neb., the son of Herman and Christine Bohling Lunzmann. He was baptized and confirmed at Hickory Grove St. Paul Lutheran Church near Auburn. He attended country school and graduated from Auburn High School in 1937.

He farmed with his father for five years until the beginning of World War II. On Feb. 7, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. Following basic training, he completed a 26-month tour of duty in the African Theatre. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant on Nov. 3, 1945.

He married Elnora Bergmann April 3, 1949, at Hickory Grove St. Paul Lutheran Church.

In 1948 he started Lunzman Trenching, Inc. at Ida Grove and remained active in the business until April 1999.

He was a member and trustee of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, a member of McNamara-Moore American Legion Post #61 where he participated in the honor guard and he had a lifelong love of flying.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Marsha and Marc Kjar; two sons, Stephen and his wife Camela Lunzman of Chillicothe, Ill., and Keith Lunzman of Ida Grove; four granddaughters, Katie, Amber and Erika Lunzman of Chillicothe, Ill., and Christina Kjar of Ida Grove; two brothers and their wives, Walter and Huldah Lunzman and Leland and Pat Lunzman, all of Auburn, Neb.; three sisters, LouElla and her husband, Merle Remmers of Burlington, Mildred and her husband, Boyd Needham and Marjorie Merritt, all of Lincoln, Neb.; and two sisters-in-law, Eloise Lunzmann of California and Suzanne Lunzmann of Washington.
