Alice Love
Services were June 18, 2000 for Alice I. Love, 89, of Ida Grove at Church of God in Ida Grove. Dr. Herbert Johnson officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Love died June 5 at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Love was born Oct. 22, 1910, in Larchwood, the daughter of Alfred and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Fuester) Viereck. She grew up in the Larchwood area, then moved to Ida Grove, where she lived with the Will Sacquety and Phil Sacquety families. After graduating from Ida Grove High School in 1929, she taught in rural schools in the Ida Grove and Arthur area.

She married J. Roland Love Aug. 22, 1931, in South Dakota. For many years she worked as a cashier at the Fair Store and later at the Ben Franklin store in Ida Grove.

She was a faithful member of the Church God for more than 70 years. She was also a member of the Loyal Homemakers Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Kay Robinson of Ida Grove and Mary Love of Brevard, N.C.; a grandson and his wife, Michael and Lynnel Love of Bangor, Maine; two great-grandchildren, Audra Carl-son and Laura Michael Love; three brothers, Donald Viereck and Frank and his wife, Georgia Viereck, all of Hartford, S.D., and John Viereck of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister and her husband, Evelyn and Ed Heyer of George; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Josephine Pullen
Memorial services were June 15, 2000 for Frances Josephine Pullen, 87, of Des Moines at Central Presbyterian Church and Wesley Acres Retirement Community in Des Moines. Burial was in Early Union Cemetery in Early on Saturday, June 17.

Undesignated memorials will be used for an Arts Scholarship for Kids (ASK) given in her honor. Other memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa, Central Presbyterian Church, or the Samaritan Fund at Wesley Acres.

Mrs. Hirons died June 12 in Des Moines.

Mrs. Hirons was born Dec. 3, 1912 in Early, the daughter of Frank G. and Edith (Culp) Hirons. She graduated from the Early public schools and Iowa State Teachers' College in Cedar Falls. She taught art, music and English in the Arthur, Sac City, Ida Grove and Cedar Falls public schools. Following her marriage to Charles L. Pullen, the couple and their family lived in Ida Grove where he was manager of Ida County Rural Electric Cooperative from its inception. Following his death in 1972, she returned to Early where she lived until moving to Wesley Acres Retirement Community in 1993.

She was an active volunteer in Ida Grove, Early and Des Moines. Her interests were in the arts and com-munity service&emdash;Girl Scouts, community theater, "art in the park," historic preservation, church leadership, and teaching GED and English as a second language.

She was a member of many religious and civic organizations including the United Methodist and Presbyterian Churches in Early and Ida Grove, First Methodist and Central Presbyterian Churches in Des Moines, the Ida and Sac County Historical Societies, Federated Women's Club, the Des Moines Area Writers' Network (DAWN) and Alpha Poetry Society in Des Moines.

Mrs. Hirons received the Governor's Leadership Award from the Iowa Community Betterment Program in 1974 and her poetry was published in chapbooks, five volumes of "Poems of Early," and "Lyrical Iowa."

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Mark and Darlene Pullen of Des Moines, Nancy and Dan Gardner of Elgin, Ill., Jim and Deanna Pullen of Des Moines and Steve and Jan Pullen of Sac City; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert Mitchell
Services are pending for Robert Boyd Mitchell, 78, of Tucson, Ariz., at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt.

Mr. Mitchell died June 16 at his home.

Theron "Kirk" Kirkpatrick
Services were June 9, 2000 for Theron "Kirk" Kirkpatrick, 63, of Arthur at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Al Milligan officiated with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mr. Kirkpatrick died June 5 at Ambassador Nursing Home in Omaha, Neb.

Mr. Kirkpatrick was born Nov. 17, 1936, in Cushing, the son of Wayne and Mavis Kirkpatrick and Edward and Ruby (Brown) Gallick. He grew up in the Quimby area. He attended schools in Iowa, California and Missouri, graduating from Grand Meadow High School in Washta in 1955. He furthered his education at Wayne State Teachers College, earning his teaching degree in 1957, and his BA in 1961. In 1967, he received his MA from the University of Omaha.

He began his teaching career at Polk, Neb. in 1957-58, then at Clarks, Neb., from 1958-60, teaching eighth grade at both places. He taught sixth grade and served as the elementary principal in Missouri Valley from 1961-67. From 1967-92 he was elementary principal at Odebolt-Arthur School District.

He married Rosemary Jones of Rembrandt Sept. 22, 1963.

He was a member of many organizations, including the Iowa Principals Association, NAESP, SAI and Phi Delta Kappa. He served as state chairman of the Parents and Reading Committee for the Iowa Reading Association and was named their Principal of the Year in 1986.

Over the years, he served in the Arthur United Methodist Church on the administration board, as trustee and as Sunday school teacher for 15 years.

He was also a member of Ben Hur Lodge No. 611, was a York Rite Shriner of the Abu Bekr Temple, Sioux City, and belonged to Arthur Chapter No. 471 of the Order of Eastern Star, where he was Worthy Patron in 1974. From 1981-85, he served as mayor of Arthur.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rose Ellen Kirkpatrick of York, Penn., and Kezzie Clark and her fiancé Monyatsi Gaseitsiwe, both of Omaha, Neb.; his mother and stepfather, Ruby and Edward Gallick of Burbank, Calif.; three sisters and their husbands, Karen and Ronald Gifford of Indianapolis, Ind., Judy and Steve Schumacher of Olathe, Kan., and Teresa and Robert Pierce of Sioux Rapids; a brother and his wife, Kerry and Kathy Kirkpatrick of Ankeny; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Alice Love
Services will be June 18, 2000 at 2 p.m. for Alice Love, 89, of Ida Grove at Church of God in Ida Grove. Burial will be in Ida Grove Cemetery . Visitation will be Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove and one hour prior to the service at the church.

She died June 5 at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.

Survivors include two daughters, Kay Robinson of Ida Grove and Mary Love of Brevard, N.C.; a grandson, Michael (Lynnel) Love of Bangor, Maine; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Viereck and Frank and his wife, Georgia Viereck, all of Hartford, S.D., and John Viereck of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and a sister and her husband, Evelyn and Ed Heyer of George.

Garland "Skeets" Duvall
Services were June 10, 2000 for Garland "Skeets" Duvall, 75, of Cyrus, Minn., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. The Rev. Gary Armstrong officiated with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Duvall died June 6 at Morris, Minn.

Mr. Duvall was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Cherokee, the son of Fred and Jesse (Brownmiller) Duvall. He attended schools in Cherokee.

He married Pauline Dreyer in 1942. In 1977, he married Naomi Randall.

He worked for Fixsel Oil Co. as a mechanic and gas transport driver for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, which included duty in the Philippines and Japan. He also worked for the Malzer Service Station, Cherokee schools and schools in Cyrus, Minn. He live in Cherokee his entire life.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Dennis Rupp of Quimby and Gail and Lou Rathjen of Ida Grove; two sons and their wives, Mike and Lorraine Duvall of Cherokee and Garland "Bud" and Judy Duvall of Urbandale; a stepson and his wife.

L. Marie Glover
Services were June 12, 2000 for L. Marie Glover, 98, of Correctionville at Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville. The Rev. Karen Handke of the Oto United Church of Christ officiated with burial in Westfork Township Cem-etery in Climbing Hill.

Mrs. Glover died May 29 at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville.

Mrs. Glover was born Jan. 5, 1902, in Batavia, the daughter of William and Flora (Colvert) Walker.

She married John H. Glover Sept. 9, 1924, in Ida Grove. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1946. She was a homemaker. She moved to Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center about six years ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances Belknap of Oto; special friends, Tom Kirschmeier and family; and nieces and nephews.

Ruth Sewell
Services will be June 14, 2000, at 2 p.m. for Ruth Elaine Sewell, 71, of Sac City at Bethel Baptist Church in Newell. The Rev. James Bartsch will officiate with burial in Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Mrs. Sewell died June 10 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Mrs. Sewell was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Vail, the daughter of Edwin J. and Katherine (Brinker) Druivenga. She attended country school and graduated from high school. She worked in homes, worked in a factory in Minneapolis and also at the Arthur Locker.

She married Calvin. L. Sewell April 12, 1958, in Arthur. The couple lived in Arthur, moved to Lytton in 1972 and to Sac City in 1988. She worked as a housekeeper at Loring Hospital in Sac City for 20 years, retiring in 1999.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Newell.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Julie and William Keller of Blairsburg and Melissa and Todd Folk of Burnham, Penn.; five sons, Thomas Sewell of Rockford, Ill., Christopher and his wife, Linda Sewell of Guyton, Ga., Tedd and his wife, Rosa Sewell of Garden City, Kan., Daniel and his wife, Sonja Sewell of Florissant, Mo.; and Andrew and his wife, Kristen Sewell of Sac City; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn Peterson of Edgerton, Wis., and Helen Ham-merstrom of Arthur; and a brother and his wife, Fred and Lavine Druivenga of Carroll.

Dale Laumbach
Memorial services were June 2, 2000 for Dale Edward Laumbach, 69, of Mapleton at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. The Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiated with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery , with military rites conducted by Little Sioux Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9124 of Oto, under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Service in Mapleton.

Mr. Laumbach died May 30 at a Sioux City hospital.

Mr. Laumbach was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Clinton, the son of Detlef Andreas and Hilda (Lille) Laumbach. He moved to Mapleton as a child and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy, then returned to Mapleton and farmed.

He married Dorothy Brownlee June 3, 1951, in Ida Grove. He was employed with Kueny Electric in Mapleton until about 1962. He was then employed with Jacobsen Brothers Construction, until retiring in 1984.

He was a member of Little Sioux Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9124.

Survivors include two sons, David and his wife, Betty Laumbach of South Sioux City, Neb., and Doug Laumbach of Battle Creek; two daughters and their husbands, Debra and Chris Tyler of Omaha, Neb., and Dianna and Bill Hanna of Farnhamville; six grandchildren, Brandon Cox, Wendy Gents, Kevin, Charissa and Chris-topher Laumbach and Nathan VanNess; six great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Doris and Harold Astleford of Lake City.

Dorothy Baxter
Graveside services were June 3, 2000 for Dorothy Baxter, 81, of Lombard, Ill., formerly of Ida Grove, at Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Baxter was born Feb. 17 1919, in Dwight, Ill., the daughter of Harold and Jesse Lamb. At an early age, the family moved to Urbandale where she spent her formative years. Her three sisters and two brothers made her life a joy: Julia Luke, Elizabeth Hamilton and Robert Lamb from Iowa, Mary Brown from Maryland and William Lamb from Texas.

After graduating from the State College of Iowa in 1942, she worked in an Urbana, Ill., nursery school for underprivileged children. She also worked in Portland, Ore., managing a child care center for employees of the ship building industry.

She married Stanley Baxter Oct. 28, 1944, in Denver, Colo. At the time of their marriage, Stanley was serving in the armed forces. For two years, she was with him on his tour of duty. After the war, the couple settled on a farm near Galva for 14 years. In 1960, the family moved to Storm Lake where he obtained his teaching degree. The family then moved to Dunlap where he taught high school science until 1968.

After a few more years in Iowa, the family moved to Lom-bard, Ill. While in Lombard, she worked at the Helen Plum Library presenting story time for children for seven years. The couple settled at Beacon Hill retirement commu-nity after their four children, John, twins Dick and Becky and Laura, were grown. He died in 1994.

She was also active in many community functions including Ruth Circle at First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include six grandchildren, Barry and Beau Hartweg of Grapevine, Texas, Jenny and Amy Goldsmith of Carol Stream, Ill., and Adam and Aaron Baxter of Council Bluffs.
