Anna Daugaard
Services were May 8, 2000 for Anna V. Daugaard, 95, of Holstein at the United Methodist Church in Holstein. The Rev. Judith A. Piper officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mrs. Daugaard died May 4 at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.

Mrs. Daugaard was born Oct. 10, 1904, in Quimby, the daughter of John and Christina (Evers) Rex. She was baptized in Holstein and attended school in Silver Township, Cherokee County.

She married Chris Daugaard Sept. 23, 1924, in Storm Lake. The couple farmed in the Holstein area until 1959, when they retired and moved into Holstein. He died in 1987.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Wayne and Joann Daugaard of Fort Collins, Colo.; two daughters and their husbands, Dorthea and Wilbur Moller of Holstein and Shirley and Keith Kuxhausen of Torrington, Wyo.; a son-in-law, Bill O'Meara of Storm Lake; 23 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Birdie Rex of Quimby; and five nieces.

Bernard "Whitey" Bridgeman
Services were May 6, 2000 for Bernard "Whitey" Richard Bridgeman, 63, of Ute at the United Methodist Church in Ute. The Rev. Ken Baughman officiated with burial in St. Clair Cemetery under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Service in Ute.

Mr. Bridgeman died May 3 at a Sioux City hospital.

Mr. Bridgeman was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Lincoln Township, Monona County, the son of Charles Richard and Elsie Opal (Hayes) Bridgeman. He attended several Monona County country schools and lived in the Mapleton and Castana areas. He moved with his family to Ute in 1942. He graduated from Ute High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for three years.

He married Claretta Boden Aug. 19, 1967, in Moorhead. He was employed with various construction companies and then was employed with Godbersen-Smith Construction Company in Ida Grove for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ellen Boden of Tyndall, S.D.; three sons and their wives, Ray and Karen Boden of Beresford, S.D., Bill and Sus Boden of Tabor, S.D., and John and Mary Boden of Springfield, S.D.; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; four brothers, Robert Bridgeman Sr. of Mapleton, and Donald, Williard "Red" and Verlin "Butch" Bridgeman, all of Ute; and several aunts,uncles, nieces and nephews.

Robert Heath
Services were May 3, 2000 for Robert Verl Heath, 81, of Correctionville at Church of Christ in Correctionville. The Rev. Clif Cockburn officiated with burial in Correctionville Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Mr. Heath died April 29 at his home.

Mr. Heath was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Correctionville, the son of Merlin and Myrtle (Wright) Heath. He attended country school through eighth grade.

He married Opal Schmidt Dec. 11, 1940, in Midway. In 1940, he began driving truck with his father. He also farmed until 1950, when he moved into Correctionville. He then drove truck full time and had a corn sheller. He retired in 1996.

He attended Church of Christ, where he was baptized. He enjoyed baseball and pitched for Correctionville, Cushing, Sioux City and other communities.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Carol and Allen Sobieski of Correctionville; two sons, Gary Heath and Mike and his wife, Bonnie Heath, all of Correctionville; a sister and her husband, Thelma and Titus Schau of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren, Michael Sobieski, Monica Miller, Bobbi Jo Heath, Julie Hummel, Rick Heath, Mark McCrea and Nick Heath; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Irma Susie

Services were April 28, 2000 for Irma Irene Susie, 84, of Correctionville at Rock Branch United Methodist Church in rural Correctionville. The Revs. Kent Kastler and Rosemary Visser officiated with burial in Rock Branch Fairfield Cemetery in rural Correctionville under the direction of Earnest-Michaelsen Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Mrs. Susie died April 25 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Mrs. Susie was born Jan. 1, 1916, in rural Rock Branch, the daughter of Fritz and Minnie (Knaack) Bohle. She grew up in the Rock Branch area.

She married Kenneth Susie Feb. 18, 1948, at the Methodist parsonage in Kingsley. The couple farmed in the Rock Branch area until their retirement. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 18, 1998.

She was a lifelong member of the Rock Branch United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands, Janice and Dan Murray of Moville, Karen and Kent Handel of Sioux City and Joan and Jay Larson of Woodbury, Minn.; two sons and their wives, Darrell and Jeanette Susie of Correctionville and Roger and Jean Susie of Kingsley; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene Held of Meriden and Ruby Gernhart of Kingsley.

Catherine Christiansen
Services were April 29, 2000 for Catherine Christansen, 97, of Mapleton at Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton. The Rev. Scott Fiege officiated with burial in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Charter Oak under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Service in Mapleton.

Mrs. Christiansen died April 25 in Mapleton.

Mrs. Christiansen was born Sept. 29, 1902, at Naper, Neb., the daughter of Johann and Matilda (Ring) Brickman.

She married Henry Christiansen Sr. Nov. 19, 1919, at Winner, S.D. The couple lived in and around the Charter Oak community. In 1942, they moved onto a farm near Castana where they farmed. He died in 1982. She entered Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Robert and Sarah Christiansen of Pueblo West, Colo., Henry Jr. and Darlene Christiansen of Ute and Ronald and Connie Christiansen of Turin; five daughters, Charlotte and her husband, Leo Kendall of Toledo, Marilyn Wallace of Ida Grove, Edna Jensen of Castana, June Otto and her husband Sam Samuelson of Milan, Ill., and Carman and her husband, Dwight Lamb of Onawa; a son-in-law, Francis Berning of Carroll; 28 grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Kathi Ketelsen
Services were April 27, 2000 for Kathi Ann Ketelsen, 40, of Ida Grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Revs. Michael Saylor and John Schauer officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Ketelsen died April 24 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Ketelsen was born April 18, 1960, in Ida Grove, the daughter of Victor and Lois (Bandow) Zobel. She was raised in Ida Grove and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1978. She received her bachelor's degree from Morningside College in Sioux City and her master's degree in education from Drake University in Des Moines.

She was a teacher and guidance counselor at River Valley Elementary School from 1982 to 1994. She also served as an assistant volleyball and basketball coach. In 1994, she became a guidance counselor at Battle Creek-Ida Grove Elementary Schools.

She married Russell Ketelsen Feb. 25, 1994, in Chaska, Minn.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served as secretary for ISEA.

Survivors include her husband; two children, Lauren and Rhett, both at home; her parents, Victor E.H. and Lois Zobel of Ida Grove; three brothers, Kim and his wife, Sheila Zobel of Ida Grove, Kendall and his wife, Margaret Zobel of Galva and Kevin Zobel of Ida Grove; four sisters and their husbands, Kay and Larry Brown of Brewer, Maine; Karla and Steve Phelps of Blythe, Calif., Krystal and Mohsen Hasen of New York, N.Y., and Kandi and Bruce Ehrig of Ida Grove; and many nieces, neph-ews and other relatives.

Norman Albers

Services were April 27, 2000 for Norman A. Albers, 66, of Battle Creek at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Battle Creek. The Rev. Tom Sabel officiated with burial in Midway/St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek.

Mr. Albers died April 23 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Mr. Albers was born Jan. 25, 1934, in Woodbury County, the son of Emil and Rosina (Schultz) Albers. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Following his graduation from Battle Creek High School, he attended the Institute of Technology for Radio and Television in Omaha, Neb.

He owned and operated Albers' TV and Variety Store in Battle Creek for more than 40 years.

He married Marlene K. Feddersen Jan. 23, 1960, in Battle Creek.

He was a former member of the Battle Creek Ambulance Service.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Albers and his special friend, Lorna Jepsen of Holstein, and Grant Albers of Yankton, S.D.; a daughter, Ann Albers and her fiancee, Greg Carr, of Allen, Neb.; a grandson, Zachary of Yankton, S.D.; two sisters, Arlene Iversen of Battle Creek and Donna Mae and her husband, Earl Petersen of Anthon; a brother and his wife, Eldon and Sharon Albers of Battle Creek; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Steven Heistand
Services were April 27, 2000 for Steven Lee Heistand, 45, of Battle Creek at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. The Rev. David Montecuollo officiated with burial in Little Sioux Cemetery in Little Sioux.

Mr. Heistand died April 22 of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident near Mapleton.

Mr. Heistand was born Jan. 4, 1955, in Storm Lake, the son of Carl and Ellen (Voorde) Heistand. He attended school in Peterson and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1973.

He was employed in construction in the Fairmont, Minn. area. In 1993, he moved to Battle Creek, where he was employed as a welder with Midwest Industries in Ida Grove.

He was a member of Pheasants Forever and Tenth Souls Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include his mother, Ellen of Onawa; a sister, Joyce Heistand of Onawa; a nephew, Andy Heistand and his fiancee Sherri Eyer, both of Mapleton.

Fred Jepsen
Services were April 26, 2000 for Fred J. Jepsen, 82, of Schleswig at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Mr. Jepsen died April 23 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.

Mr. Jepsen was born Dec. 31, 1917, near Schleswig, the son of Herman and Dora (Beeck) Jepsen. He was raised on a farm in Hanover Township and attended rural school. He worked for various area farmers.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He served with the 60th Infantry Battalion, 9th Armored Division, in the European Theater and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. His awards and decorations include the American Defense Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He qualified expert with the Thompson submachine gun and rifle and was a sharpshooter with the pistol.

He married Irene Meggers Dec. 15, 1942, in Denison.

Following his discharge, he was employed as a mechanic for Eddie Raak for two years and later operated maintainer for Crawford Coun-ty for two years. He farmed from 1947 until retiring in 1980. He was then employed as a security guard for Iowa Beef for 15 years, re-tiring in 1996.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fellowship Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3930.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Karen and her husband, Vern Wood of Denison, Betty Moore of South Sioux City, Neb., Marlene and her husband, Fred Bachman of Schleswig and Pat and her husband, Mark Bilsten of Denison; four sons, Richard Jepsen and his fiancee, Ruth Burk of Denison, Lonny and his wife, Tracey Jepsen of Early, Gaylen and his wife, Jayne Jepsen of Denison and David Jepsen and his special friend, Laurie Martinez of Schleswig; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four brothers, Herman Jepsen and Vernon and his wife, Diane Jepsen, all of Ricketts, Edwin and his wife, Marilyn Jepsen of Denison and Victor and his wife, Shirley Jepsen of Battle Creek; a brother-in-law, Ted Abbe of Schleswig; and many nieces and nephews.
