Earl Ellerbusch
Services were April 22, 2000 for John Friedrich Earl Ellerbusch, 94, of Holstein at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. The Rev. Curtis Benson officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Ellerbusch died April 17 at Holstein Good Samaritan Center.

Mr. Ellerbusch was born April 20, 1905, near Royal, Neb., the son of George and Anna (Friedrich) Ellerbusch. He moved with his family to a farm near Orchard, Neb., where he graduated from high school in 1922. He then moved to Sioux City and attended National Business College. He remained on the teach staff until his employment as a ledger clerk with H.J. Heinz and Co. In 1923, he moved to Holstein, where he worked as a bookkeeper with J.B. Barret Produce Co. In two years he became manager of the business, which was then known as Holstein Produce Co. In 1932, he became associated with Mr. Vilas of Storm Lake and the business was renamed Storm King Produce and Hatchery, which he managed until retiring in 1966.

He married Mabel Bauer of Holstein March 23, 1920. She died in February 1991.

He attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed. He served in the church council, the Holstein City Council, Holstein Chamber of Commerce and Boy Scout Troop committees and was past president of the Holstein Farm and Town Club. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge and served as secretary/treasurer for the National Turkey Fed. and president of Iowa Turkey Fed.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Patsy and Dale Huenecke of Holstein; a son and his wife, Rodson and Rose Ellerbusch of Castle Rock, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Joni and her husband, Paul Daemen of Wichita, Kan., Jeri and her husband, Tom Hoffert of Holstein, Marty and his wife Beth Huenecke of Holstein, Tammy Huenecke of Madison, Wis., Tom and his wife, Michelle Huenecke of Lison, Karen and her husband, Shawn Kay of Castle Rock, Colo., and Tom and his wife, Amy Ellerbusch of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 15 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Nicole Daemen, Nick, Marcell and Megan Hoffert, Bob, Brittany and Jamie Huenecke, Derek and Kelli Huenecke, Brian, Courtney and Michael Kay and Emily and Alysa Ellerbusch.

Ella Hamann
Services were April 18, 2000 for Ella F. Hamann, 86, of Battle Creek, formerly of Schleswig, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Grant Township, Ida Grove, under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Mrs. Hamann died April 14 at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek.

Mrs. Hamann was born Aug. 22, 1913, on the family farm near Schleswig, the daughter of William and Emilie (Schumann) Backhaus. She was baptized Oct. 15, 1913, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove by Rev. A. W. Brauer and confirmed April 8, 1928. She received her education near her home at Morgan #5 Country School.

She married Ennis Hamann May 9, 1937. The couple made their home in Schleswig and were the parents of a daughter, Judith. He preceded her in death. In 1947, Ella and Judith settled on the farm. She continued living there until moving to Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek in February 1998.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Judith and Edward Walden of Fort Salonga, N.Y.; a brother, Harry Backhaus of Denison; and other relatives.

Daisy Robinson
Memorial services were April 24, 2000 for Daisy K. Robinson, 95, of Sioux City at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The Rev. Ernest M. Caltvedt officiated. Burial will be at a later date in Sunset View Cemetery in Washta.

Mrs. Robinson died April 21 at Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Mrs. Robinson was born June 1, 1904, in Ida Grove, the daughter of William H. and Emma P. (Brownlee) McCabe. She was raised on the family farm in Ida County and attended school in Washta.

She married Alonzo "Lonnie" Robinson July 12, 1922 in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Washta. They moved to Sioux City in 1936. She worked for T.S. Martin and Younker Davidson Department Stores for about 15 years. They retired to Tavares, Fla., before returning to Sioux City in 1990. He died in 1995.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Lydia Circle.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Beth and Arthur Olson of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Gordon and Rusty Robinson of Brandon, Fla., and Gary and Susan Robinson of Livermore, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Clare Robinson of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren, Scott Olson, Kathy Fjerstad, Susan Ostendorf, David Robinson, Robin Duncan, Lonnie Robinson, Mary Kay Habel, William Robinson, Deby Yeggy and Cindy Robinson; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland, Immanuel Lutheran Church or Countryside Retirement Home.

Irene Kistenmacher
Services were April 14, 2000 for Irene Magdalena Kistenmacher, 89, of Holstein at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. The Rev. Curtis Benson officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mrs. Kistenmacher died April 9 at her home.

Mrs. Kistenmacher was born Sept. 9, 1910, in Holstein, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Thedens) Schuett. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on Oct. 8, 1911. She attended country school up to the eighth grade. She was in 4-H and received a blue ribbon for the healthiest girl in her 4-H club. She was confirmed on April 21, 1940.

She married Claude Kistenmacher Sept. 11, 1929, in Sioux City. The couple farmed all their married life within a four and a half mile area. He died in 1990.

She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Delores Todd of Washta and Ruth and her husband, Robert Bergmann of Holstein; a son and his wife, Lauren and Clara Kistenmacher of Holstein; 12 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Luverne and Marge Schuett of St. Joseph, Mo.; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Katherine Kistenmacher of Holstein, Eleanor Schuett of Sac City, Adaline Schuett of Holstein and Hulda Endurlat of Cherokee.

Arthur and Elsie Christiansen
Joint memorial services were held April 17, 2000 for Arthur Alfred, 88, and Elsie Lucille, 79, Christiansen of Lake View at the United Methodist Church in Lake View. The Rev. Marcia F. Sangel officiated with inurnment in Odebolt Ceme-tery under the direction of Chris-tensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ode-bolt.

The Christiansens died April 9 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident east of Odebolt.

Mr. Christiansen was born July 21, 1911, in Sac County, the son of Alfred and Ida (Halboth) Christiansen. He grew up and received his education in the Odebolt area. He was employed at the Sioux City Journal as a typesetter during the war years.

Mrs. Christiansen was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Ida County, the daughter of D.J. and Ruth (Bleakly) Bennett. She graduated from Schaller High School in 1938, then completed nurses training at the Methodist School of Nursing in Sioux City.

The couple was married Sept. 25, 1943, in Sioux City. They made their home on a farm north of Arthur until 1974, then retired to Lake View.

He refinished furniture, made prize-winning wines and was a league bowler.

Over the years, she was employed as a nurse at hospitals in Sioux City, Battle Creek, Ida Grove, Storm Lake and Sac City, retiring in the early 1980s.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake View and Masonic Lodge. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake View, Eastern Star and the Old Nurses Association.

Their survivors include three children and their spouses, Allan and Catherine Christiansen of Glenwood, Sara Jane and Dennis Taylor of Cedar Rapids and Marvin Christiansen of Davenport; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew and Mark Christiansen, Theodore "Ted" and his wife, Julie Taylor, Alexander and Leslie Taylor and Amy Christiansen; and one great-granddaughter, Makayla Taylor.

His survivors include two brothers and their wives, Howard and Elma Jean Christiansen of Gooding, Idaho, and Lawrence and Connie Christiansen of Aberdeen, Wash.; three sisters, Frances Johnson of Spicer, Minn., Dorothy and her husband, Forrest Balcombe of Cosmopolis, Wash., and Joyce Bengtson of Tempe, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Her survivors include a brother and his wife, David and Joyce Bennett of Rembrandt; a sister and her husband, Mary Ruth and Verne Campbell of Storm Lake; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Gerard "Gary O." Ourada

Private family services will be held for Gerard George "Gary O." Ourada, 42, of Sioux City.

Mr. Ourada died April 10 at a Sioux City hospital.

Mr. Ourada was born April 10, 1958, in Omaha, Neb., the son of George and Celestine (Conley) Ourada. He was raised in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army.

He was employed with Bekins Furniture and J.B. Lawn Service.

Survivors include his mother; six sisters, Christine Messick of Omaha, Neb., Coleen and her husband, Tom Russell of Ida Grove, Pauline and her husband, John Metz of Sioux City, Linda and her husband, Gene Greek of Aurora, Mo., Val and her husband, Jim Fox of Sioux City, and Vickie and her husband, Jim Willson of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Angie Burns.

Marjorie Ann Cork
Services will be April 19, 2000 at 2 p.m. for Marjorie Ann Cork, 76, of Schaller at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. The Rev. Carol Gailey will officiate with burial in Galva Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Schaller.

Mrs. Cork died April 16 at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Mrs. Cork was born April 11, 1924, on a farm in Sac County, the daughter of William and Dora (Klindt) Miller. She attended schools in Sac County and one year at the parochial school in Fonda.

She married Wilfred Earl Cork Feb. 9, 1944, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Schaller. The couple lived on a farm near Galva until his retirement in 1990, when the couple moved into Schaller. He died in 1991.

She was a longtime member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church where she was active in United Methodist Women. Later the couple transferred their church membership to Schaller United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Ronald and Vicki Cork of O'Neill, Neb., and Richard and Florene Cork of Schaller; three daughters and their husbands, Dianne and Donald Ehrp of Schaller, Deb and Terry Arter of Wall Lake and Donna and Allen Sackett of Schaller; a daughter-in-law, Kay Cork of Ida Grove; 11 grandsons, Thad, Brian, Klint, Aaron, Gabriel, Caleb, Nathanael, Eric, Corey, Ben and Nick; eight granddaughters, Dorothy, Tyler, Michelle, Jill, Sarah, Traci, Cassie and Emily; 10 great-grandchildren, Courtney, Rachael, Morgan, Nicole, Colby, Dawson, Justine, Taylor, Michael and Magon; a brother and his wife, Wilbur and Bernice Miller of Merrill; three sis-ters, her twin Mildred Schriber of Arthur, Marcella Moore of Sioux City and Loraine and her husband Paul Levan of Sandy, Ore.; a sister-in-law, Arlene Miller of Schaller; and a brother-in-law, Bob Clark of Anaheim, Calif.

Ella Hamann
Services were April 18, 2000 for Ella Hamann, 86, of Battle Creek, formerly of Schleswig, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Grant Township in Ida Grove under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

She died April 14 at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek.

Mae Glick
Internment was April 9, 2000 for Mae LaVerne Glick, 84, of Seattle, Wash. She died March 10 in Seattle, Wash.

Mrs. Glick was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Ida Grove, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Riley) Smith. She received her education in the Ida Grove schools.

She married John Eitel Ludwig in 1934. The couple lived in the Battle Creek area until 1957 when they moved to Libby, Mont. He died in 1966.

She moved to the Seattle area where she married Levi Glick. They lived in Oregon where he preceded her in death. She moved back to Seattle to be near her children.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Rae Ludwig of Everett, Wash., Carol Mae Simonson of Snohomish, Wash., and Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Hanson of Missoula, Mont.; a son, Larry Ludwig of Lewiston, Idaho; a sister, Elleen E. Phillips of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many other family members.

Clayton Whitmer
Services were April 8, 2000 for Clayton D. "Buzz" Whitmer, 85, of Galva at the United Methodist Church in Galva. The Rev. Roger Maize officiated with burial in Delaware Township Cemetery in Nemaha, with military honors conducted by American Legion Dibbern Post #454 of Galva, under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mr. Whitmer died April 5 at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Mr. Whitmer was born Feb. 21, 1915, in Cherokee County, the son of Orville and Hazel (Blackburn) Whitmer. He graduated from Galva High School in 1933, and later enlisted in the United States Navy.

He married Vera (Steele) Davis Sept. 30, 1942, in Omaha, Neb. The couple lived in Florida while he was stationed at Navy air bases in Key West and Melbourne, and in the Pacific Theatre. They also lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, for a short time. At the time of his discharge, he was an aviation machinist mate.

The couple moved to Galva in 1945 with their two sons, Charles and Bill. He drove a Galva school buss for more than 30 years, and also operated an auto service business in Galva.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and IOOF, served as a volunteer firemen and was a 50-year member and past commander of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Charles "Buddy" and Jo Davis of Collins, and Bill and Verna Davis of Sheldon; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Whitmer, and Harold and his wife, Dorothy Whitmer, all of Galva; and a sister, Charlotte Kelsch of Reseda, Calif.
