Jeanette Drake
Services were April 8, 2000 for Jeanette Irene Drake, 78, of Carroll, formerly of the Galva and Schaller areas, at First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. The Rev. Ken Fells officiated with burial in Schaller Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Schaller.

Mrs. Drake died April 5 at Carroll Health Center in Carroll.

Mrs. Drake was born Dec. 1, 1921, on a farm near Avoca, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Zobrist) Christensen. She was baptized and confirmed at the English Lutheran Church in Avoca. She graduated as salutatorian from Avoca High School in 1938. She received her normal teaching certificate from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. She moved with her family to Schaller in 1939 and taught country school at Eureka No. 5 and Cook No. 3. She also worked at the State Bank of Schaller prior to her marriage.

She married Donald W. Drake Feb. 22, 1945, in Schaller. He died in 1999.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Schaller and was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star in Arthur, having joined in 1942.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Ron and Sharon Drake of Lake Ozark, Mo.; a daughter Marla Jean Mead of Humboldt; three granddaughters and their families; a brother, Roger Christensen of Perris, Calif.; and many nephews and other relatives.

Edwin "Ted" Stiles
Services were April 12, 2000 for Edwin Theodore "Ted" Stiles, 95, of Odebolt at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Al Milligan officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mr. Stiles died April 9 at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake.

Mr. Stiles was born April 2, 1905, in Muscatine County, the son of William and Marietta (Kline) Stiles. He grew up on a farm and later moved to Atalissa, where he attended school. At the age of 14, he traveled to the Schleswig area where he did farm work while living with an uncle.

He married Leona Moeller June 20, 1928, in Denison. The couple farmed in the Ida Grove and Kiron areas until purchasing a farm south of Odebolt. In 1952, they moved into Odebolt and he continued farming until his retirement. He then worked as a crop adjuster for Grinnell Mutual Insurance. Retirement came again, and he still found himself busy helping on the Buehler farm with spring and fall work, as well as keeping watch over the dryers at the local elevator. During the winter months, the couple took trips and enjoyed 11 winters in Arizona. She died in April 1999.

He was a member of Odebolt United Methodist Church, serving whenever asked to do so.

Survivors include two daughters, Norma Hokanson of Dallas, Texas and Donna and her husband, Duane Buehler of Odebolt; five grandchildren, Todd Hokanson of Chandler, Ariz., Lisa Hokanson of Los Angeles, Calif., Karen Buehler of Johnston, Jeff and his wife, Beth Buehler of Fort Dodge and Brian Buehler of Odebolt; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Sydney Buehler; and two nieces, Bevelyn Lindle of West Liberty and Sandy and her husband, Louis Danner of Atalissa.

Ina Joy
Services were April 12, 2000 for Ina E. Joy, 84, of Cushing at First United Methodist Church in Cushing. Burial was in Cushing Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

She died April 9 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.

Irene Kistenmacher
Services will be Friday, April 14, 2000, 11 a.m. for Irene M. Kistenmacher, 89, of Holstein at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery . Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

She died April 9 at her home.

Lillian Hansen
Services will be Thursday, April 13, 2000, 2 p.m. for Lillian D. Hansen, 85, of Ida Grove at First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Marvin Lindley will officiate with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery . Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family present from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Hansen was born June 6, 1914, in Denison, the daughter of Jerome and Ernestine (Clausen) Slechta. She graduated from Denison High School and was a country school teacher for a number of years.

She married Leonard Hansen of Schleswig on March 21, 1936, in Carroll. He preceded her in death.

She worked at Suiters Cleaners in Ida Grove for several years, then was employed as a cook for Battle Creek-Ida Grove Elementary School.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Faye and Jim Wellendorf of Ida Grove; four grandchildren and their spouses, Sheri and Jeff Chandler of Ida Grove, Brad and Kristine Wellendorf of Rapid City, S.D., Mike and Karen Palm of Valparaiso, Ind., and Lisa and Joel Brownlee of Granbury, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Amber Chandler, Landon Wellendorf, Sean and Heather Brownlee, and Ethan and Erin Palm; four sisters, Mildred Andersen, LaVerne and her husband, Bob Reisz, and Lucille and her husband, Paul Curnyn, all of Denison, and Shirley and her husband, Vernie Clausen of Weiser, Idaho; and two brothers, Vernus and his wife, Virginia Slechta of Cherokee and Kenneth Slechta of Ida Grove.

Julia Gunderson
Services will be Thursday, April 13, 2000, at 10 a.m., for Julia F. Gunderson, 87, of Odebolt at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Al Milligan will officiate with burial in Odebolt Cemetery . Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mrs. Gunderson died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident April 9.

Mrs. Gunderson was born July 12, 1912, on a farm near Lakefield, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Julia (Roslansky) Ukasick. Her stepmother, Tessie (Pasierbek) Ukasick, raised her after her mother's death.

She married Cyril Kendrick Gunderson Dec. 1, 1932, in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Montgomery for 10 years, then moved to a farm northeast of Kiron where they farmed for 21 years. In 1965, the couple moved into Odebolt. Her lifelong commitment was to her special daughter Cindy, and to the activities at New Hope Village that enabled Cindy to blossom into a productive and capable adult.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Gunderson of Dike and Marlin and his wife, Shirley Gunderson of Kiron; three daughters, Julianne and her husband, Robert Chedester of Sioux City, Suzanne and her husband, Kenneth Roeder of DeSmet, S.D., and Cindy Gunderson of New Hope Village in Carroll; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one step-brother and his wife, Steven and Dorothy Ukasick of Lakefield, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Mabel Ukasick of Lakefield, Minn.

Scot Saemisch
Services were March 29, 2000 for Scot Douglas Saemisch, 33, of Altoona, formerly of Denison, at First United Methodist Church in Denison. Burial was in Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Mr. Saemisch died March 26 near Winterset.

Mr. Saemisch was born Nov. 11, 1966, in Denison, the son of Dwight and Karen (Johnson) Saemisch. He received his education in the Denison Community Schools, graduating from high school in 1985. He then pursued a career in graphic arts, attending the Art Institute of Dallas in Omaha, Neb., graduating in 1987.

Following graduation, he was employed at Midwest Industries in Ida Grove for four years. He started Saemisch Design Group in Denison, designing graphic arts of various kinds and specializing in unusual advertising signs. He remained in Denison un-til the spring of 1999, when he moved to Altoona where he was em-ployed by G & G Poured Founda-tion Company. In the fall, he joined Schneider Graphics.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Denison.

Survivors include his parents, Dwight and Karen Saemisch of Denison; a brother, Chad Saemisch and his friend, Julie Kain of Des Moines; two nephews, Skyler Saemisch and Ryan Kain of Des Moines; his maternal grandmother, Doris Johnson of Lake View, formerly of Odebolt; and many other relatives.

M. Lucille Bennigsdorf
Services were April 3, 2000 for M. Lucille Bennigsdorf, 91, of Ida Grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Revs. John Schauer and Michael Saylor officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Bennigsdorf died March 30 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Bennigsdorf was born July 30, 1908, in Crawford County, the daughter of Albin and Alice (Wells) Carlson. She was from a family of six boys and six girls. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1926, then taught in country schools near Schleswig.

She married Herbert Bennigsdorf Oct. 17, 1928, in Denison. The couple farmed in Crawford, Monona and Ida Counties until 1958. In 1959, the couple moved to Ida Grove. They were blessed with 10 children and observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1978. He died in 1981. She had been a resident of Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove since 1991.

In addition to her 10 children, she was devoted to her 38 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Special memories were made in August 1999, when the entire Bennigsdorf family gathered for a family reunion at Estes National Park in the Rocky Mountains.

She loved children, and after raising her own family, was a baby-sitter at her home in Ida Grove for 29 years. She was known to the children she cared for as "Grandma B."

Survivors include nine children and their spouses, Dorene and LeRoy Wonder of Galva, Robert and Marlene Bennigsdorf of Arvada, Colo., Leila and Bernard Lansink of Ida Grove, Vernon and Edith Bennigsdorf of Delta, Colo., Ruth and Earl Dean Schmidt, Darrell and Marlene Bennigsdorf and Russell and Clara Bennigsdorf, all of Ida Grove, Carol and Maynard Miller of Atlantic and Lonnie and Marva Bennigsdorf of Battle Creek; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Bennigsdorf of Ida Grove; 36 grandchildren; 91 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Jones of Ute, Lois Adams of Charter Oak and Edna Blunk of Denison; a brother and his wife, Robert and Margaret Carlson of Denison; and two sisters-in-law, Clara Carlson of Denison and Ella Mae Carlson of Ute.

Cecil Keigan
Services were April 3, 2000 for Cecil D. Keigan, 84, of Holstein at Church of Christ in Webster City. Burial was in Cass Center Cemetery under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mr. Keigan died March 30 at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.

John Cory
Services were April 3, 2000 for John M. Cory, 77, of Wisner, Neb., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wisner. The Rev. James P. Carretto officiated with burial in Wisner Cemetery , with military rites conducted by Wisner Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5767, under the direction of Kuzelka Funeral Home in Wisner.

Mr. Cory died March 29 at a Sioux City hospital.

Mr. Cory was born Jan. 1, 1923, near Smithland, the son of Ralph and Margaret (Yockey) Cory. He graduated from Smithland High School in 1940 and attended Wayne State Teacher's College.

In 1943, he began the V12 Navy Officer's Program at Peru State Teacher's College in Peru, Neb. He reported to Norfolk, Va., and Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill. He was then commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II stationed in the Pacific Theater. He received his discharge in 1946, attaining the rank of lieutenant junior grade.

He married Elaine Fuelberth May 10, 1944, in Osmond, Neb.

He graduated from Wayne State College in 1947, with a bachelor's degree in education. He received his master's degree in school administration from the University of South Dakota in 1963. He was employed in construction for one year in Wayne. He was employed as a teacher or administrator in the school systems of Oto and Pilger, Crofton and Wisner, Neb. He also taught at Cuming County Rural School District 17. His wife died in 1986.

He married Helen (Stober) Lukens June 6, 1987, in Crofton, Neb.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served on the education board and taught Sunday School. He was also a member of Wisner Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5767, Nebraska State Education Association and was instrumental in the starting of Wisner Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include his wife; a brother and his wife, Gordon and Dorothy Cory of Geyersville, Calif.; a sister and her husband, Maurine and Harry Myrtue of Smithland; nieces and nephews; two stepdaughters and their hus-bands, Cindy and Vince Jenness of Waterloo and Celia and Terry Freier of Delmont, S.D.; a stepson and his wife, Greg and Diane Lukens of Pierce, Neb.; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Alton and Leoma Fuelberth of Osmond, Neb., and Delno and Jean Fuelberth of Battle Creek; and his father-in-law, Benjamin Fuelberth of Osmond, Neb.

Paul Shannon
Services were April 4, 2000 for Paul E. Shannon, 70, of Omaha, Neb., at Mary Our Queen Church in Omaha, Neb. The Rev. Ralph O'Donnell officiated with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Omaha, with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 1, under the direction of Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak & Cutler West Central Chapel in Omaha, Neb.

Mr. Shannon died April 1 at his home.

Mr. Shannon was born March 8, 1930 at Turin, the son of Clarence and Lucetta (Scott) Shannon.

He married Marilyn J., and was a repairman for Sears. She died in 1994. He had been in the service, and he belonged to Mary Our Queen Catholic Church.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Terry and Suzy Shannon, Diane and Tom Byrnes Sr., Sonny and Beverly Mislivec, Jim Mislivec, Robert and Barbara Shannon, and Lewis and Beverly Shannon, all of Omaha; two sisters, Barbara and her husband, Roger Collins of Danbury and Leraine Babcock of Ida Grove; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Robert Saxen
Services were April 5, 2000 for Robert Saxen, 76, of Holstein at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. The Rev. John Scherb officiated with burial in Sunset View Cemetery in Washta, with military rites conducted by American Legion Dessel- Schmidt Post 225 of Holstein.

Mr. Saxen died March 31 at a Sioux City hospital.

Mr. Saxen was born June 20, 1923, at Battle Creek, the son of Henry and Anna (Gehrke) Saxen. He lived in Holstein since 1986. Prior to that, he lived in Correctionville and Cushing.

He married Leona Zupp Dec. 24, 1940 at Dakota City, Neb. The couple farmed, retiring in 1988. She died in 1993.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He received the Flying Cross for missions flown during the war. He was a member of American Legion Dessel- Schmidt Post 225 of Holstein.

Survivors include two sons, Mark and his wife, Helen Saxen of Orlando, Fla., and Scott Saxen of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Paul and Jody Saxen; four brothers, Raymond, Wendell and Danny Saxen, all of Pierson, and Frank Saxen of Cherokee; a sister, Lillian Nairn of Pierson; and a special friend, Faye Mahin of Correctionville.
