Irene Boeck
Services were Feb. 22, 2000 for Irene Anna Mae Boeck, 69, of Schleswig at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated with burial in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.
Mrs. Boeck died Feb. 19 at Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
Mrs. Boeck was born Nov. 14, 1930, in Buck Grove, the daughter of Henry F. and Olga (Weller) Beermann. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She received her elementary education in a rural school near her home and graduated from Denison Community High School in 1948. After graduation, she worked for Sheriff N.P. Cavett for three years.
She married Gaylord Boeck June 24, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm in Crawford County. In 1954, the couple moved to a farm in Ida County where they remained until retiring in 1993, when they moved to Schleswig.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for more than 26 years. She was also a member of Immanuel Ladies Aid, serving in various offices, the Immanuel Fellowship Group and the Schleswig Golf Club.
Survivors include her husband; three sons and their wives, Rev. Alan and Jeynell Boeck of Portage, Wis., Dr. Curtis and Robin Boeck of Omaha, Neb., and Gary and Susan Boeck of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren; three sisters and their husbands, Alma and Clarence Denkel of Denison, Dorothy and Lyle "Shorty" Christoffersen of Audubon and Lorena and Mervin Fink of Denison; two brothers, Walter Beermann and Harold and his wife, Joan Beermann, all of Denison; a sister-in-law, Carmen Beermann of Denison; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Anna Petersen
Services were Feb. 24, 2000 for Anna E. Petersen, 83, of Ida Grove at Church of God in Ida Grove. Dr. Herbert Johnson officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Petersen died Feb. 19 at her home.
Mrs. Petersen was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Graves) Cross. She was baptized in the Methodist faith. She grew up in rural Ida Grove and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1934. She received her Normal Training and taught country school in the Ida Grove area for several years.
She married Ray Petersen Jan. 6, 1937, in Ida Grove. The couple farmed in the Galva area for many years, retiring to Ida Grove in 1973. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage before his death in March of 1987.
Survivors include four sons, Raymond and his wife, Petersen of Phoenix, Ariz., Loren and his wife, Barb Petersen of Cushing, Harold Petersen of Ida Grove, and Marvin and his wife, Vickie Petersen of Galva; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Gary Amunson of Soldier; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Helen and Bill Cedarholm of Omaha, Neb.; and three brothers and their wives, Leonard and Jeanette Mollak, George and Dorothy Mollak and Richard and Pat Mollak, all of Omaha, Neb.

LaDonna Forney
Services were Feb. 25, 2000 for LaDonna K. Forney, 85, of Ida Grove at First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Marvin Lindley officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Forney died Feb. 22 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Forney was born April 13, 1914, in Ida Grove, the daughter of Louis E. and Sadie (Vickery) Fobes. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1932.
She married Arlo W. Forney Oct. 4, 1934. The couple made their home in Ida Grove. She worked as a legal secretary for Arthur L. Johnson for a time, and later worked as a teller for Ida County State Bank for more than 20 years. He died in 1977.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School superintendent and was active in Ladies Aid.
Survivors include a son and his wife, David and Denielle Forney of Ida Grove; three grandchildren, Riannon, Candace and Devon; and a nephew, Lee Forney of Amarillo, Texas.

Ray Smith
Services were Feb. 26, 2000 for Raymond C. "Ray" Smith, 76, of Ida Grove at First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Marvin Lindley officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the di-rection of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Smith died Feb. 23 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Mr. Smith was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Anthon, the son of Carl and Florence (Coon) Smith. He grew up and received his education in the Anthon area.
He married Lois Short Nov. 6, 1952, in Anthon. He was employed as a welder for Simonsen's Manu-facturing in Quimby, and later for Midwest Industries in Ida Grove. He retired in 1986, due to health prob-lems.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve Smith of Cherokee and Kerry Smith of Ida Grove; two daughters and their husbands, Deb and Mickey Reitz of Ida Grove and Sandy and Leon Venteicher of Danbury; nine grandchildren, Lexie, Nikki and Megan Smith, Laci and Codi Reitz and Trudy, Terry, Tami and Taylor Venteicher; and two sisters, Dorothy Lage of Marcus and Evelyn and her husband, Charles Fortner of Brazil, Ind.

Marjeane Savidge
Services were Feb. 25, 2000 for Marjeane Savidge of Danville, Penn. at Danville.
Mrs. Savidge died Feb. 22 at Danville Hospital in Danville, Penn.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Savidge of Danville; two sons, John Savidge and Edward and his wife, Tracy Savidge, all of Danville; a grandson; a brother and his wife, Duane and Hazel Drake of Odebolt; a sister, Dawn Kashner; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Drake.

Phalista "Flip" Stephen
Services were Feb. 25, 2000 for Phalista A. "Flip" Stephen, 88, of Cherokee, formerly of Sioux City, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. The Rev. Gregg Johnson of First Church of Christ officiated with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
Mr. Stephen died Feb. 21 at a Sioux City hospital.
Mr. Stephen was born Dec. 25, 1911, in Belle Plaine, the son of Allen and Adeline (Chawn) Stephen.
He married Lucille Eicharft Oct. 30, 1932, in Marshalltown.
He married Vivian R. Husted Feb. 4, 1960, in South Sioux City, Neb.
He had lived in Laurel, Neb., and Ida Grove, where the couple owned and operated Flip and Viv Tavern. They moved to Sioux City, where he worked as a taxi driver with Yellow Cab for many years. They moved to Cherokee 11 years ago.
He was a member of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Janet and William Needham of Omaha, Neb., and Joanne and Wallace Marx of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Harlan and Marg Husted of Maple Grove, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Prochello of Hinton; 12 grandchildren, William and Steven Needham, Lori Furlong, Penny Laferriere, Michael Stephen, David, Thomas, Jennifer, Suzanne, Craig and Kevin Marx, and Theresa Johnson; four step grandchildren, Kenny, Jason, Lisa and Sheryl; 14 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Oliver of South Sioux City, Neb.

Emma Schmidt
Services were Feb. 26, 2000 for Emma Katherine Schmidt, 83, of Anthon at United Methodist Church in Anthon. The Rev. Kent Kastler officiated with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Mrs. Schmidt died Feb. 22 at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville.
Mrs. Schmidt was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Morgan Township, Wood-bury County, the daughter of Law-rence Martin and Fannie Louise (Clausen) Hansen.
She married William Frederick Schmidt May 19, 1932, in Anthon. He died in 1946.
She worked as a cook with Anthon-Oto School system for 27 years, retiring in 1982. She entered Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in November 1999.
She was a member of United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary McNiff Unit 389. She volunteered with the American Legion Auxiliary poppy fund-raiser.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Norman and Leona Schmidt of Danbury, Darwin and Betty Schmidt of Early, Kenneth and Betty Schmidt of Battle Creek and Darrell and Marge Schmidt of Anthon; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grand-children; a brother and his wife, Tom and Sylvia Hansen of Hinton; five sisters, Margaret Callamore of Tacoma, Wash., Thressia and her husband, Art Klein of Moville, Rose Lillie of Correc-tionville, and Dorothy Nelson and Darlene Jen-sen, both of Anthon; a brother-in-law, Chris Schmidt of Rainier, Ore.; and a sister-in-law, Edna Bush of Rainier.

Julia Rettenmaier
Services were Feb. 26, 2000 for Julia A. Rettenmaier, 86, of Breda at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The Revs. James Smithland and Gerald Rettenmaier officiated with burial in St. Bernard Cemetery under the direction of Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.
Mrs. Rettenmaier died Feb. 23 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Survivors include a son, Gerald Rettenmaier of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Karen and her husband, John Scharfenkamp and Linda Rettenmaier, all of Carroll, and Betty Rettenmaier of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Anna Henkenius of Massena, Dora Olberding of Ode-bolt, Sister M. Eloise, F.S.P.A., of LaCrosse, Wis., Mary Daniel of Carroll and Leona Donal-son of New Hope, Minn.; and a brother, Leon Nees of Tongonxie, Kan.

Edmund "Spike" Going
Edmund A. "Spike" Going, 95, of Lyons, Neb., died Feb. 18, 2000 at Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Neb.
Mr. Going was born May 20, 1904, on the family farm near Lyons, Neb., the son of William A. and Mathilda (Zanders) Going. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Lyons. He attended District No. 71 School through the eighth grade.
He married Anna Marie Nelson Feb. 7, 1930, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland, Neb. The couple moved to the Nelson family farm, where they lived until moving into Lyons in March of 1965. While living in Lyons, he held various jobs. She died in 1983. He moved to IHS in February 1994.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he held many offices in the organizations of the church.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Leland and Bonita Going of Lyons, Neb.; a daughter and her husband, Karen and Doyle Brown of Ida Grove; four grandchildren, Jeff, Anita, Kimberly and Kevin; six great-grandchildren, Lyndsay, Aaron, Seth, Addisen, Dalton and Parker; a brother, Walter Going of Lake Placid, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Esther Butler of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Albert Yohnke
Services were Feb. 16, 2000 for Albert Gustave Yohnke, 80, of Wall Lake at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. The Rev. Leo Riesberg officiated with burial in Wall Lake Cemetery , with military honors conducted by Chalon American Legion Post No. 262 of Wall Lake, under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake.
Mr. Yohnke died Feb. 12 at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.
Mr. Yohnke was born May 26, 1919, in Sac County, the son of Gust and Mary (Drilling) Yohnke. He attended rural school and Wall Lake School. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and was discharged in 1945.
He married Wilma Faye Carpenter Nov. 18, 1946, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. The couple lived in the Lake View and Wall Lake areas, and he farmed from 1946 to 1962. He then worked at National Oats popcorn plant in Wall Lake, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include three sons, Warren Yohnke of Wall Lake, David and his wife, Peggy Yohnke of Wall Lake and Fred and his wife, Jean Yohnke of Ida Grove; five daughters and their husbands, Virginia and Richard Marx of Azle, Texas, Eileen and Merle Halter of North Platte, Neb., Janet and Larry Mueller of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mary Beth and Tom Fastje of Des Moines, and Suzanne and Guy Ro-mero of Riverton, Wyo.; 17 grand-children; seven great-grand-children; and a sister, Helena Boeckman of Wall Lake.
