Frieda Elam
Services were Feb. 10, 2000 for Frieda C. Elam, 84, of Council Bluffs, formerly of Holstein and Correctionville, at Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. The Rev. Howard Pruitt of Church of God of Prophecy officiated with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Elam died Feb. 7 at Immanuel Health Systems-South in Council Bluffs.
Mrs. Elam was born in Holstein and graduated from Correctionville High School in 1933. She had been a resident of Council Bluffs since 1943.
She married Ronald Elam, who died in 1978.
She attended Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include three sons, Melvin L. and his wife, Joni Elam of Shell Knob, Mo., Clayton G. Elam of Council Bluffs and Roger L. Elam of Harlan; two daughters, Velda J. Scott and Bev and her husband, Steve Griffis, all of Council Bluffs; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Henrietta Kroll of Sioux City; and nieces and nephews.

Albert Whitenack
Services were Feb. 15, 2000 for Albert W. Whitenack, 80, of Schleswig at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.
Mr. Whitenack died Feb. 13 at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek.

Milton Nelson
Services were Feb. 12, 2000 for Milton H. Nelson, 90, of Denison at Denison Baptist Church in Denison. The Rev. Art Anderson officiated with burial in Kiron Cemetery in Kiron under the direction of Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.
Mr. Nelson died Feb. 9 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.
Mr. Nelson was born July 18, 1909, on a farm in Otter Creek Township, near Kiron, the son of Nels Gustaf and Emily (Monson) Nelson. He was raised on the farm and received his education in the Kiron vicinity. Following his education, he farmed with his father.
He married Leona Louise Jepsen April 13, 1941, in Denison. The couple farmed on two different farms in Stockholm Township from 1941 to 1949. In January 1949, they moved to Denison where he was employed at Denison Dairy until 1961. He was then employed at the Dr. Pepper plant and Petersen Manufacturing for a few years. In 1965, he became a custodian at the Denison Community Schools, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the Denison Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon, trustee, usher and Sunday School secretary. He was honored as Deacon Emeritus.
Mr. Nelson and his sisters, Ellen and Myrtle, formed the Nelson Trio, singing for many occasions. He also sang with a male chorus when he was younger.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Duane and Dot Nelson of Papillion, Neb., Steven and Susan Nelson of Fayetteville, Ark., and Lance and Sandy Nelson of Denison; a daughter, Linda Burlingham of Plainsboro, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Coy Robinson
Services were Feb. 12, 2000 for Coy J. Robinson, five-month-old son of Jamie Robinson and Sarah Renfer of Le Mars, at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley. The Rev. Larry Fett of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars officiated.
Coy died unexpectedly Feb. 9 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Coy was born Aug. 11, 1999, in Sioux City.
Survivors include his parents; paternal grandparents, Dave and Deb Robinson of Kingsley; maternal grandmother, Mary Renfer of Ryan; paternal great-grandmothers, Betty Dickman of Kingsley and Dorothy Robinson of Remsen; paternal great-great-grandmother, Katherine Dickman of Holstein; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ryan Ortman
Services were Jan. 24, 2000 for Ryan David Ortman, two-month-old son of Dave and Kay (Witt-meier) Ortman of Worthing, S.D., at Dindot-Klusmann Chapel in Lennox, S.D. The Rev. DeAnn Eidem officiated with burial in Tyndall Cemetery in Tyndall, S.D.
Ryan died unexpectedly while taking a nap on Jan. 21.
Ryan was born Nov. 3, 1999, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. He lived with his family in Worthing, S.D. His father was a former Battle Creek resident.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Andrew; grandparents, Peggy Lindquist of Battle Creek, LeRoy and Nancy Ortman of Bella Vista, Ark., and Ken and Norma Wittmeier of Tyndall, S.D.; a great-grandmother, Clara Bittner of Menno, S.D.; and other relatives.

Kenneth Bruene
Kenneth W. Bruene, 84, of Battle Creek died Feb. 2, 2000. No services are planned with arrangements under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
Mr. Bruene was born July 23, 1915, on a farm near Cushing, the son of Rudolph and Minnie Elizabeth (Kabish) Bruene. He graduated from Cushing High School.
He married Norma Wesellink Feb. 19, 1949, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in rural Correctionville for many years. She died in 1990. He entered Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek in August 1997.
He was a member of Cushing Lutheran Church, Hillside Church of Christ, National Farm Organization and served on Producers Livestock Board in Sioux City.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Janet and Roland Loehr of Rockport, Texas; a sister, Ruth Goodburn of Cushing; two grandchildren, Christopher Loehr and Calleus Orr; and a brother-in-law, Roger Wesellink of Sioux City.

Harold Kallin
Services were Feb. 5, 2000 for Harold V. Kallin, 80, of Ida Grove at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Gerald M. Fisch officiated with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Ida Grove under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Kallin died Feb. 2 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Mr. Kallin was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Bedford, the son of Victor and Rella (Fulton) Kallin. He grew up and received his education in Ida Grove, graduating from Ida Grove High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and also devoted 37 years to the Army National Guard, retiring as a colonel.
He married Mary Louise Lamoureux Sept. 24, 1942, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. The couple made their home in Ida Grove, where he owned and operated Ida Grove Granite Company, continuing in the family business that originated with his father and grandfather. Over the years, he also was a bus driver for the Battle Creek-Ida Grove School District and was a driver for GOMACO. In recent years, he was a salesman for Carlyle Monument Company.
He served on the Ida Grove School Board for nine years.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Victor and his wife, Connie Kallin, of Bonita Springs, Fla., Francis Kallin and his special friend, Susie Hicks, of Davenport, John and his wife, Kathy Kallin, of Ida Grove, Gerald and his wife, Pat Kallin, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Thomas and his wife, Eileen Kallin, of Estero, Fla.; six daughters, Mary Jean and her husband, Dennis Johnson, and Elizabeth "Betty" and her husband, John Baker, all of Fort Myers, Fla., Eileen and her husband, Dennis Cegla, of Walworth, N.Y., Rose Marie Kallin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Margaret and her husband, Joe Lemek, of Sioux City and Jane and her husband, Bruce Otto, of Storm Lake; 27 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Rose and Herb Wellendorf of Schleswig.

Julius "Jack" Hanks
Services were Feb. 5, 2000 for Julius "Jack" Hanks, 91, of Battle Creek at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. Dr. Herbert Johnson officiated with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek.
Mr. Hanks died Feb. 2 at his home.
Mr. Hanks was born Nov. 29, 1908, in Corydon, the son of James Riley and Emma Etta (Rogers) Hanks. He was raised and educated in the Ida Grove area.
He married Gertrude Caroline Jacobsen Jan. 15, 1930. He was employed in heavy road construction, as a shipbuilder, welder, farmer, night policeman and at the landfill. He also mowed lawns, cleared snow and tilled gardens.
He was a member of Battle Creek Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Phyllis Hanks of Rapid City, S.D., and Phillip Hanks of New Braunfels, Texas; two daughters, Carolyn Witter of Battle Creek and Darlene and her husband, Earl Zoch of Arthur; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Walter Rohde
Services were Feb. 3, 2000 for Walter Henry "Bud" Rohde, 94, of Mapleton at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. The Rev. Scott Fiege officiated with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Service in Mapleton.
Mr. Rohde died Jan. 31 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.
Mr. Rohde was born July 22, 1905, in Mapleton, the son of Claus and Maggie (Ragis) Rohde. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He had lived in the Mapleton area his entire life, except for one and a half years when he lived in Sioux City and Storm Lake.
He married Alma Hesse Oct. 31, 1932, in Mapleton. He was employed at the Golden Rule Store for six years, then did livestock trucking from 1945-46. In 1946, he bought McVicker Produce, renaming it Bud's Produce, which the couple operated until 1964. He then worked in trucking, hauling gravel, until retiring in 1978. She died in 1981.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Dale Rotnicke of Mapleton; a son and his wife, Leonard and Jane Rohde of Sheldon; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Jimmy Regennitter
Services were Feb. 3, 2000 for Jimmy Regennitter, 63, of Sioux City, formerly of Holstein, at the United Methodist Church in Holstein. The Rev. Judith A. Piper officiated with burial in Holstein Ceme-tery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mr. Regennitter died Jan. 31 at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.
Mr. Regennitter was born May 10, 1936, in Washta, the son of Albert John and Mae (Coon) Regennitter. He was raised and educated in Washta. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include seven children, Mike Regennitter, Marion Linden, Jeffrey and his wife, Denise Regennitter, Brian and his wife, Shawn Regennitter, and Rodney and his wife, Traci Regennitter, all of Holstein, Jimmy Dean and his wife, Jacqueline Regennitter of Storm Lake and Ardythe and her husband, Kenneth Blair of Harlan; and 18 grandchildren, Zachary, Derek, Kiley, Cody, Anne, Ami, Angel, Abra, Quentin, Jennifer, Jeremy, Andrea, Mark, Justin, Tanner, Caleb, Shantel and Kelby.
Also, 12 brothers and sisters, Maurice and his wife, Opal Regennitter of Quimby, Albert Jr. and his wife, Maryann Regennitter of Pacifica, Calif., Beverly and her husband, Kenneth Green of New Sharon, Mary Kurtz of Quimby, Annabelle and her husband, LeRoy Paulsen of Washta, Vernon and his wife, Karen Regennitter of Ritzville, Wash., Doris Meyer of Washta, Beth and her husband, Bob Nelson of Tabor, Dean and his wife, Vicky Regennitter of Aurelia, Kenny and his wife, Elsie Regennitter of Atalissa, Glen and his wife, Rosine Regennitter of Oxford Junction and Kenneth and his wife, Elsie Hollingshead of California.
