Farrell Edwards
Services were Feb. 8, 2000 for Farrell Edmond Edwards, 79, of Ida Grove, formerly of Correctionville, at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove. The Rev. John Schauer officiated with burial in Correctionville Cemetery.
Mr. Edwards died Feb. 6 at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.
Mr. Edwards was born June 11, 1920, the son of John Henry and Julie (Livermore) Edwards. He grew up and received his education in the Correctionville area, then served in the United States Army during World War II. Following the war, he returned to the Correctionville area where he operated a maintainer for Woodbury County.
He married Mildred Jean Weathers Aug. 27, 1949 at Elk Point, S.D. The couple built the Valley Drive-In, which they owned and operated for many years. He also operated a maintainer for the Iowa State Highway Commission. The couple retired to Storm Lake, and in 1992, moved to Ida Grove.
Survivors include four children and their spouses, Gary and Cheryl Roberts Waldman of Cushing, Eva Mae and Dr. Harlan C. Weber of Omaha, Neb., Linda and Verdell Buss of Ida Grove and Randy and Joanne Edwards of Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ida Mae Zimmerman of Atlantic.

Wayne Lenz
Services were Feb. 7, 2000 for Wayne R. Lenz, 76, of Holstein at the United Methodist Church in Holstein. Burial was in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mr. Lenz died Feb. 3 at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.

Richard "Rich" Bond
Services were Feb. 3, 2000 for Richard J. "Rich" Bond, 53, of Evansdale at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Burial was in Garden of Memories in Waterloo, with military rites conducted by Waterloo AMVETS post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 under the direction of Parrott and Wood Family Funeral Care in Waterloo.
Mr. Bond died Jan. 30 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Mr. Bond was born June 23, 1946, in Ida Grove, the son of Cletus and Inez (Patterson) Bond. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.
He married Kathy A. Wehner Sept. 3, 1971, in Ida Grove. He was employed as an electrician at John Deere for 22 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Matthew Bond of Hawkeye and Ryan Bond of San Angelo, Texas; two daughters, Kara Bond of Waterloo and Renea Otis of Ames; two grandchildren; his father of Ida Grove; a brother, Gaylen Bond of Milford; and a sister, Carol Aulner of Hastings, Neb.
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ardith Shirk
Memorial services were Jan. 8, 2000 for Ardith Ann Shirk, 71, of Phoenix, Ariz., at Gethsémane Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Ariz. The Rev. John Krueger officiated. Her body is in the care of the Anatomical Cancer Foundation.
Mrs. Shirk died Dec. 28 at her home.
Mrs. Shirk was born June 8, 1928, the daughter of Ernest and Helga (Andersen) Sievers. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church. She graduated from Newell Consolidated School. She attended Buena Vista College and Drake University majoring in biology.
She married James Shirk June 8, 1951 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. The couple lived in Newell until 1969, when they moved to Phoenix, Ariz. She was employed at Gethsémane Lutheran School, where she was in charge of all the medical records. She also helped her husband with his insurance and investment business. She had been in Mesa Lutheran Hospital and Sun Bridge Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kelli and her husband, Steve Turner of Chandler, Ariz., and Essie "Leslie" Shirk of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, Bart Shirk of Phoenix, Ariz., and Paul Shirk of Apache Junction, Ariz.; four grandsons; and three sisters-in-law, Harriette and her husband, Chris Laursen of Newell, Betty and her husband, Ray Raasch of Odebolt and Virginia Wellendorf of Ida Grove.

Mark Ellis
Private graveside services were Jan. 20, 2000 for Mark T. Ellis, 40, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, at Riverside National Memorial Cemetery for Veterans.
Mr. Ellis died Jan. 10 at the San Diego Veterans Administration Hospital in San Diego, Calif.
Mr. Ellis was born Aug. 10, 1959, in Sioux City, the son of Donald and Evelyn (Hildebrandt) Ellis. He attended Immaculate Conception School and Heelan High School. In 1976, he attended Job Corps, where he earned his GED and a trade in welding. In 1977, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany.
Survivors include a sister and her husband, Colleen and Robert Ebner; two brothers and their wives, Richard and Judy Ellis of Pipestone, Minn., and Michael and Kelley Ellis of Holstein; and many nieces and nephews.

Gladys Scott
Services were Feb. 5, 2000 for Gladys Mae Scott, 86, of Danbury at Danbury United Methodist Church. The Rev. Glen Hoots III officiated with burial in Liston Township Cemetery in Danbury under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Service in Danbury.
Mrs. Scott died Feb. 1 in Mapleton.
Mrs. Scott was born March 10, 1913, near Oto, the daughter of Craft L. and Mae (Hennings) Kirkpatrick. She graduated from Oto High School in 1930. She received her normal training from Morningside College in Sioux City and taught country school for four years.
She married J. Edwin "Buzz" Scott. The couple farmed east of Danbury all their lives, until retiring in 1976 and moving into town. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1984. He died in 1989.
She was a member of Danbury United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School superintendent and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, where she served as past Matron and in 1968 served as Grand Representative to Washington State. She was also a member of the Friendly Neighbors Sewing Club and Danbury Women's Club.
She was named Rural Homemaker of the Year in the early 1970s. In 1976, she served on the Ida County Extension Council.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Donna and Keith Zediker of Mapleton; two sons and their wives, Roger and Nancy Scott of Louisville, Neb., and Darrell and Lin Scott of Danbury; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Opal Schau
Opal Mable Schau, 87, of Lake View died Feb. 6, 2000 at her home. No formal services are planned. Arrangements were under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
Mrs. Schau was born July 30, 1912, in Correctionville, the daughter of Percy C. and Ione Waggoner Sellman of Battle Creek. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1932.
She married William A. Schau June 25, 1934 in Battle Creek. The couple lived in Sioux City where he worked for Wilson Trailer. In 1941, they moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where he was employed at the Navy Defense Plant during World War II. In 1945, they moved to Battle Creek where he had his own radiator shop for 28 years. He died in 1969.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Schau of Lake View; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; a sister-in-law, Loraine Beyer of Holstein; and several nieces and neph-ews.

Mary Munster
Services will be Feb. 11, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. for Mary M. Munster, 88, of Battle Creek at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery . Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek.
She died Feb. 6 at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek.

Garnet Claussen
Services were Feb. 9, 2000 for Garnet D. Claussen, 90, of Remsen, formerly of Sioux City, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. The Rev. Marvin Mueller, chaplain at Sunrise Nursing Home, officiated with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Claussen died Feb. 5 at a Remsen nursing home.
Mrs. Claussen was born Oct. 28, 1909, in Ida Grove, the daughter of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina (Bielenberg) Aldag. She attended school in Schleswig.
She married Roy Janssen Oct. 3, 1926, in Sioux City. She then married Alvin Claussen March 24, 1951, in Elk Point, S.D.
She had lived on a farm near Anthon. She had also lived in Moville before moving to Sioux City.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Eugene and Eunicve Janssen of Moville and Richard and Melva Janssen of Kingsley; a daughter and her husband, Janice and Jerry Barthole of Kingsley; a sister and her husband, Cleora and LeRoy Carstens of Ida Grove; 15 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Donald Price
Services were Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, 1:30 p.m. for Donald C. Price, 64, of Ida Grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. John Schauer and Rev. Michael Saylor officiated with burial in the Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home.
Mr. Price died Jan. 31 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
He was born Sept. 13, 1935 in Mapleton to Claude and Lorraine Melby Price. He was raised in Mapleton and Sioux City, graduating in 1953 from East High School in Sioux City. He was married to Marilyn Zenor; the couple later divorced.
In 1981, his career in retail brought him to Ida Grove where he was employed as manager of Pamida. On May 26, 1984 he married Kristy Martin Harter at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. They purchased the Celebrations with Hallmark store in Ida Grove in 1988. He also drove school bus for the Battle Creek-Ida Grove School District the past 10 years.
Mr. Price served several years in the United States Naval Reserves. He enjoyed bowling and golf.
Survivors include his wife, Kristy; his mother, Lorraine Price of Dunlap; three children, Kirk Price of Chicago, Ill., Todd Price and his special friend Beverly Guinn of Yukon, Okla., and Kim Jones and husband Austin of Grinnell; three step-children, Kevin Harter of New York City, N.Y., Craig Harter and wife Sara of Chicago, Ill., and Jill Schulke of Cedar Crest, N.M.; five grandchildren, Kyle and Kirby Price, and Alyson, Kelsey and Miranda Jones; two step-grandchildren, Arana Schulke, and Olivia Harter.

Wilbert Thomsen
Services were Jan. 29, 2000 for Wilbert F. "Tubby" Thomsen, 76, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Holstein, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Thomsen died Jan. 25 at Via Christi-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
