Jane Williams
Services were Dec. 28, 1999 for Jane Ellen Williams, 57, of Solvang, Calif., at Old Mission Santa Ynes Catholic Church. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery
under the direction of Loper Funeral Home.
Ms. Williams died Dec. 21 at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital in Solvang.
Ms. Williams was born Dec. 3, 1942, at the Ida Grove Hospital, the youngest daughter of Wion E. and Florence M. (Kennaley) Speaker. She attended school at Cook Township #4 in Sac County and graduated from Schaller High School in 1961. She moved to Des Moines and worked as a customer service representative for both the telephone company and Iowa Power and Light.
She married James Williams of Des Moines in 1967. She started a career in banking with United Federal Savings and Loan advancing to branch manager and loan officer.
In 1978 she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., and continued her career in banking there and in Santa Barbara, Calif. In 1991 she retired and moved to Solvang.
Survivors include a sister, Barbara Svenson of Roseville, Calif.; three brothers, Jerry Speaker of Apple Valley, Calif., Richard Speaker of Nevis, Minn., and Mark Speaker of Sedalia, Mo.; and many other relatives.
Laura Newman
Services were Jan. 22, 2000 for Laura Esther Newman, 101, of Anthon at Church of Christ in Anthon. The Rev. Keith Hair officiated with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery
under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Mrs. Newman died Jan. 19 at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville.
Mrs. Newman was born May 31, 1898, near Castana, the daughter of Albert and Bobbie Ann (McCall) Crum. She lived in the Castana, Rodney and Mapleton area.
She married Oath Newman Sept. 9, 1913, in Onawa. The couple moved to the Anthon area in 1934.
She was a member of Church of Christ, Rebekah Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary McNiff Unit 389 of Anthon.
Survivors include two daughters-in-law, May Newman of Anthon, and Pauline Newman of Correctionville; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Herbert Hunt
Services were Jan. 23, 2000 for Herbert E. Hunt, 70, of Valley, Ala., formerly of Ida County, at Shawmut First Baptist Church in Valley. Burial was in Johnson Memorial Gardens under the direction of Johnson Brown Service Funeral Home in Valley.
Mr. Hunt died Jan. 20 in Valley.
Margene Burgoyne
Services were Jan. 26, 2000 for Margene C. Burgoyne, 77, of Morgan Hill, Calif., at Gilroy Presbyterian Church in Gilroy, Calif.
Mrs. Burgoyne died Jan. 23.
Mrs. Burgoyne was born Sept. 11, 1922, in Ida Grove. She graduated from Ida Grove High School. She has been a resident of Morgan Hill, Calif. for 26 years and was employed at Live Oak High School from 1973-86.
She was a member of Flower Lovers Club of Morgan Hill, Women in Touch and was a former dancer with the Fabulous Flappers.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Burgoyne; a daughter, Leah Dowry of Gilroy, Calif.; a son, Douglas Burgoyne of Los Angeles, Calif.; a niece, Denise Burgoyne; a nephew, Michael Burgoyne; and three grandchildren, Mariette, Sarah and Kyle.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
Florence Petersen
Memorial services were Jan. 15, 2000 for Florence F. Petersen, 90, of Ida Grove at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Inurnment was in the Ida Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Petersen died Dec. 16, 1999 at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Petersen was born July 29, 1909, in Ida Grove, the daughter of John and Fredricka (LaFrantz) Colshan.
She married Peter J. Petersen Feb. 18, 1930. She worked as a clerk at Wilkens Hardware Store and Johnson Hardware in Ida Grove for many years.
She was a member of the Church of God in Ida Grove.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Gladys and Leland Page of Sandy, Utah; two grandchildren, Leann and her husband, Michael McFalls of West Jordan, Utah, and James Page of Sandy Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert Goodman
Services were Jan. 15, 2000 for Robert Dean Goodman, 71, of Battle Creek at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. The Rev. Benjamin Ray officiated with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery
in Battle Creek under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek.
Mr. Goodman died Jan. 11 at his home.
Mr. Goodman was born May 11, 1928, in Anthon, the son of Oscar C. and Ella (Petersen) Goodman. He grew up and received his early education in Anthon, graduating from Anthon High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as an air corp control tower operator for four years during the Korean Conflict. He returned to the Battle Creek area where he farmed.
He married Marjorie Ellen (Shever) Lund Feb. 14, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple continued to farm until 1978, when they moved to Phoenix, Ariz. He worked in the real estate business there until 1981, when they retired to Battle Creek.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Dennis and Angela Goodman of Arthur, Jeri and Mary Ellen "Boots" Goodman of Battle Creek, and Randall and Sheryl Goodman of Ida Grove; six grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ben Goodman of Phoenix, Ariz., Paul and his wife, Darlyne Goodman of Norfolk, Neb., and Conrad Goodman of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a sister, Marjorie Jansen of Sioux City.
Bill Oberreuter
Services were Jan. 15, 2000 for Keith William "Bill" Oberreuter, 58, of Ida Grove at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Gerald M. Fisch officiated with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Ida Grove under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Oberreuter died Jan. 11 at his home.
Mr. Oberreuter was born Nov. 18, 1941, in Danbury, the son of Joseph Adam and Anna Loretta (Dirksen) Oberreuter. He grew up and received his education in Danbury, graduating from Danbury Catholic High School. He raised cattle and farmed with his brother Irvin, north of Danbury, for many years.
He married Betty (Nading) Maguire Aug. 11, 1978 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Anna Oberreuter of Danbury; three step-children, Michael and his wife, Cheryl Maguire of Bow, N.H., Jean Volkmann of Ida Grove and Mark Maguire of Ida Grove; four step-grandchildren, Crystal, Michael John and Heather Maguire and Becky Volkmann; two brothers and their wives, Irvin and Elleen Oberreuter of Danbury and Leon and Joanne Oberreuter of Ridgefield, Wash.; five sisters and their husbands, Kay and Clem Wessling Jr. of Danbury, Joann and John Allmon of Crescent, Nancy and Richard BeJune of Northridge, Calif., Connie and Bob Barrett of Sioux City and Janet and Michael Kellum of Cedar Falls; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A. W. "Tony" Jacoby
Services were Jan. 18, 2000 for Anthony William "Tony" Jacoby, 67, of Mapleton at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. The Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiated with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery

Mr. Jacoby died Jan. 14 at Bur-gess Memorial Hospital in On-awa.
Mr. Jacoby was born Feb. 24, 1932, in rural Mapleton, the son of Henry and Catherine (Flammang) Jacoby. He grew up and was educated in the Mapleton area.
He worked as a laborer for various area farmers.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton.
Survivors include five sisters, Beatrice McCall of Soldier, Isabele Steel of Ida Grove, Kathleen James and Mary Warner, both of Sioux City, and Teresa and her husband, Robert Dimiig, of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Terry Schmidt

Peter "Pete" Olbertz
Services were Jan. 18, 2000 for Peter Jack "Pete" Olbertz, 74, of Storm Lake at Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Rev. Clair Boes officiated with burial in Galva Township Cemetery
in Galva.
Mr. Olbertz died Jan. 15 at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia.
Mr. Olbertz was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Early, the son of Peter A. and Margaret (Dadt) Olbertz. He served with the Seabees in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
He married Joyce Crawford March 15, 1946, at Ida Grove. The couple moved to Storm Lake in 1954.
He worked as a welder for Iowa Electric Light and Power Company.
Survivors include his wife and a daughter, Jill Olbertz of Atlanta, Ga.
