Shirley Hervey

Shirley L. Hervey, 68, of Keosauqua, died at 2:50 a.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Born Sept. 16, 1937, in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Harold "Bill" and Beulah Calkins Weaver. She married Wayne F. Hervey. They later divorced.

Mrs. Hervey worked at Universal Producing Co. in Fairfield and Fairfield Glove Co. She also worked at Center Village Care Center in Keosauqua as a cook, medicine aide and nurse's aide.

She grew up in Birmingham. She was baptized into the Christian faith on June 1, 2005. She was a 16–year member of Van Buren Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Keosauqua, where she served as a guard and trustee.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah DeWitt of Bonaparte and Rita Jo Hayes of Keosauqua; two sons, Terry Hervey of Birmingham and Ronald Hervey of Pulaski; 17 grandchildren; five great–grandchildren; one sister, Sherry Hall of Birmingham; one brother, Paul Jack Weaver of Mount Pleasant; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Hervey will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Justin DeVries officiating. Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery southeast of Keosauqua.

A memorial has been established for her family.

Marvoleen Wright

Marvoleen "Pat" Wright, 79, of LaHarpe, Ill., died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Fort Madison Health Center.

Born July 23, 1926, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Susannah Diller Patterson. In 1942, she married Charles Dalton. On Dec. 22, 1963, she married Lowell "Bud" Wright in Carthage, Ill. He died July 20, 1982.

Mrs. Wright was a member of LaHarpe American Legion Auxiliary and both the LaHarpe and Fort Madison Senior Citizens.

Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Blackledge of Edwardsville, Ill.; six grandchildren; 12 great–grandchildren; one brother, Jerome Patterson of Hernando, Fla.; and two sisters, Virginia Hull and Joyce Bielser, both of Biggsville, Ill.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and three great–grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Wright will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with the Rev. Diane Bigley officiating. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for LaHarpe Senior Citizens and Lee County Hospice.

Esther V. Lyon

The funeral service for Mrs. Esther V. Lyon, 95, who died Saturday, March 11, 2006, will be Thursday, March 16th, at 1:30 PM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Randall Gearhart will officiate. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . Friends may call after 8:00 AM today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established.

Virginia "Ginny" R. Harris

The funeral service for Mrs. Virginia "Ginny" Ruth Harris, 84, who died Monday, March 13, 2006, will be Thursday, March 16th, at 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Tyrone Henderson will officiate. Interment will be in Carman Cemetery , Carman, Illinois. Friends may call 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM today in Lunning Chapel and the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service on Thursday. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Dorothy K. Breuer

The funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Katherine Breuer, 89, who died Monday, March 13, 2006, will be Thursday, March 16th, at 1:00 PM in West Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Kirk Bennett, Rev. Tyrone Henderson and Pastor Tom Faeth will officiate. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . Friends may call noon to 3:30 PM today in Lunning Chapel and the family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 PM in West Avenue Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for West Avenue Baptist Church.

George S. Pence

The funeral service for Mr. George Sanderson Pence, 75, who died Monday, March 13, 2006, will be Friday, March 17th, at 10:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Tyrone Henderson will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM Thursday, March 16th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established for Burlington Fire Department Ambulance. Mr. Pence is also survived by his lifetime companion, Jo Tubbs.

Charles B. Gregg

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Charles B. Gregg, 88, who died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, are pending in Lunning Chapel.

Families are now able to have the video of their loved one's funeral service viewed on Lunning Chapel's Web site. This is an excellent alternative for those friends and family who are not able to attend, but can still share special moments with the family.

Raymond Coon

Raymond Frederick Coon, 95, of Washington, Iowa, died following a brief illness Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at M.L. McCreedy Home.

Born April 21, 1910, on his grandparents farm on the Washington–Louisa County line, he was the son of M.T. and Elvie Raymond Coon. On Feb. 26, 1935, he married Frances Frey in Crawfordsville. She died March 17, 2005.

Mr. Coon farmed in rural Ainsworth before moving to Washington in 1991.

He attended country school at Round Grove School No. 7 in Highland Township. He was a member of Salem Church of God. He served on the Highland Township School Board. He was a member of the Washington Genealogy Society and a past member of the Louisa Art Guild. He was a former member of the Washington Kiwanis AMers. He kept a lifelong journal of weather and family events. He was an artist, railroad buff and writer. He also enjoyed painting.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet E. Gregg of Nichols; Joann J. Estle of Washington and Beverly J. Brayton of Iowa City; one son, Frederick A. Coon of Hills; seven grandchildren; and four great–grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at Jones–Eden Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Coon will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Jones–Eden Funeral Home, with Kyle Soukup officiating. Burial will be in Salem Church of God Cemetery in rural Ainsworth.

Memorials have been established for Salem Church of God and Hospice of Washington County.

Norma Brashear

Norma Jean Brashear of Fairview, IL, died on March 13, 2006 at 2:00pm at the Graham Hospital Extended Care Unit. She was born August 25, 1926 in Adair, IL, to Earl F. and Martha (Shores) Snowden. She married Keith Brashear on August 26, 1943 in Palmyra, MO. He survives. Also surviving are one son, Lenny K. (Rhonda) Brashear of Canton, MO, 3 daughters, Debbie K. (Brian) Kennelly of Danville, IA, Norma Lea (Jon) Owens of Renton, WA, Penny J. (Bill) Slack of Farmington, IL, one sister, Shirley A. (Robert) Feeser of Canton, 14 grandchildren and 11 great–grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Max Snowden and one sister, Margaret Sparger. She was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church. She was a past matron at the Maquon Eastern Star #530. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 11:00am at the Anderson–Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. Pastor Alan Somer will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Canton Memory Walk.

EDNA SCHMIDT

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edna Ruth Schmidt, 94, of Burlington, who died on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, will be held in St. Paul's Catholic church on Saturday at 9:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf and Rev. Don Hoornstra will be the celebrants. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery . The Rosary will be recited in Prugh's Chapel today at 3:00 P.M. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:00 P.M., following which the family will be present to receive friends until 9:00 P.M. Mrs. Schmidt is survived by two daughters, Ann Schmidt of Chicago, Ill., and Mary Walker–Baptiste of Waretown, New Jersey; one son, John Schmidt of Glendale, California; three grandchildren, Sean Walker, Kelly Walker and Ava Schmidt. A memorial has been established for the Klein Center Scholarship Fund in memory of Mrs. Edna R. Schmidt.

KENNETH BREUER

Funeral Services for Mr. Kenneth Edward Breuer, 83, of Burlington, who died on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at his home, will be held on Monday, November 13, 2006, at 10:30 A.M. in the St. John's Church of Flint River Township. Pastor Dean Moberg will officiate. Inurnment will be in St. John's Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday in Prugh's Chapel, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Military Rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard at the Church. Following the services, as per Mr. Breuer's wishes his body will be cremated. A Memorial has been established for St. John's Cemetery or the Great River Medical Center, Hospice.

Max Frownfelter

Max Wilson Frownfelter, 92, of Mediapolis, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis.

Born Sept. 11, 1913, in Mediapolis, he was the son of Plin and Minnie Myers Frownfelter.

Mr. Frownfelter served in the Army for 22 years. Following that, he was a farmer, staying on the family farm for nearly 40 years and moving to Prairie Ridge at the age of 89.

He was a 1931 graduate of Mediapolis High School. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis. He was a World War II and Korean War Army veteran, joining in 1941, where he became an anti–tank gun crewman. He served for 3 1/2 years in the European Theater. He then re–enlisted for another 22 years. He received a Bronze Star during the Korean War. He also served in the European, African and Middle East camps, which allowed him to travel.

Survivors include twin brothers, Ray Frownfelter and Roy Frownfelter, both of Mediapolis; one niece and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Frownfelter will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with the Rev. Brad Hansen officiating. Burial with military rites by the American Legion Post of Mediapolis will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for First United Presbyterian Church.

ANNA A. WADDELL

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Anna Agnes Waddell, 82, of Burlington, who died on Thursday, March 9, 2004, at her home will be held in St. John's Catholic Church on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at 9:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. William Wiegand will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery . There will be no formal visitation, as per her wishes, her body has been cremated.

Ruth Slagel

Ruth Slagel, 99, of Fort Madison Health Center, died at 11:01 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born July 19, 1906, in Harrisburg, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles Boone and Ida Mary Jane Dodd Wilson. On June 26, 1941, she married Lewis "Red" G. Slagel in Hillsboro, Mo. He died Nov. 27, 1981.

Mrs. Slagel retired from Sheaffer Pen Co. with 31 years of service.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Charity Circle of the United Methodist Women, Elks Auxiliary and Modern Living. She served as Past Noble Grand of Empress Rebekah Lodge #364 of which she was a member for 56 years. She loved to play euchre and belonged to several bridge clubs.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Rachel (Dennis) Sook of Chicago, Ill.; one nephew, Harold Fox of Calumet City, Ill.; one stepniece, Elaine Atkinson of Fairfield, Ill.; 11 great–nieces and nephews; a number of great–great–nieces and nephews; and a number of great–great–great–nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, one stepson, two nieces and one great–nephew.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church.

The funeral for Mrs. Slagel will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Brenda Goodall officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.

A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church.

Funeral Arrangements for Mr. Frederick H. Garrett, 77, of Burlington who died on Friday, March 17, 2006 at Parkview Care Center in Burlington are pending at Prugh Funeral Service.

Funeral Services for Mr. Howard E. Rice, 90, of Kingston, Iowa, who died on Friday, March 17, 2006 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Monday, March 20, 2006, at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Posts 10102 & 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walter Marine Corps League and AmVets Post 29. Memorials have been established for the Kingston Methodist Church or the Burlington Bees Baseball Association.
